YES! I'm glad this game has risen from death. I was following this game back when it was being developed and couldn't believe it got canceled all of sudden. Now let the excitement begin...
I dont find anything exciting about this news. A canceled game that is being revived, which was buggy as hell in beta, lag-fest, and absolutely no merchandising, harvesting, crafting or player-influenced or encouraged economy? Maybe in 2007 when this was scrapped it might have been considered something new and fresh, well....maybe not, but with the progression of mmorpg staples today, this will be a lacluster title unless they have some immense accomplishments up their sleves.
But for people who hate harvesting, crafting and economy (being me and I'm sure others) it would be a welcome change.
some people are in it for the adventure

I don't know if I can state how happy I am with this wonderful news. I had the great luck and joy of participating in the beta of this game. I can report that it is a superb game with great story-lines, quests, classes, outlook and vision. I will be rapturous if I can get the honour (and pleasure)of joining the beta again.
I was so disappointed when I learned that perpetual went down the tube. They chose to get their Star Trek Online completed instead of completing and releasing this game. I suppose they may well see the mistake in hindsight. Your cash is running out; work on a game you just started, with great prospects OR complete the final stage of an uncertainty with great potential but unknown theme?
It's not a surprise which one I'd choose. At least the completed one could bring in some steady bucks to help you finish the former.I just wish Perpetual got to complete Star Trek before they were forced to pass it onto the highest bidder. I am sure they would have done a far more refined job than to scratchings we are offered now.
I think the more important question is how they're going to take a game that was scrapped how long ago? And bring it current enough that people would actually consider subscribing to it as a "new" title, when the engine and everything else is well over three years old when you take into account dev time BEFORE it was put in limbo. Unless they plan on starting from scrap, in which case you won't see it for a while. Either way is going to be a pretty lame scenario.
Heh, I find it funny, I've been thinking about GnH for quite some time recently, wishing it wasn't canned, looks like I might be able to get my wish
I was in the beat myself, and still have the code for the Boar even :P Though it's useless now, it was my momento of a game that seemed pretty awesome, and was then scrapped for Star Trek (which i dont care about :P)
Nice news! Could they also buy the old version of STO as well and get to work? Cryptic version of a Star Trek turned out to be let me say, childish game desiged as if they had 10 year old console gamers in mind.

They bought the engine. But they couldn't do a new STO game since Perpetual can't sell the rights to it since they sold that to Cryptic already. Besides STO as it is, is fun and certainly not childish.
I too was in initial beta. I really found this game intriguing and was quite shocked when it was pulled. A whole lot of potential here. I hope they can bring it to the next level of polish that might be required these days and let us at it -- I'm waiting (to play or test!).
This news makes me happy. Between this and Hero's Journey, they were my favorite MMOs that I was watching during development at one point. I play Aion now, but will totally be keeping an eye on Gods and Heroes again. I was SO bummed when it was cancelled in 2007, but now I'm really hopeful for it again.
Oh, and I hardly ever post here as you can see. XD

As to STO I would have to dispute that, the only people that I know that have said they like it is the kids. There is no substance there for a mature MMO player to like.
As to GaH, I wish them luck, the beta had a lot of issues.

Not a single kid in my fleet of about 40 members, all enjoying the game, only lost 2 since launch. We are a quite mature (prefer our members to be 20+ years) fleet.
When game was canceled I was quite disappointed by the news. However I wonder if they can pull the old rabbit out of the hat with restarting this game? It is going to interesting how this game unfolds and I wish them the best of luck. This game was on my to-buy list before it was canceled, I will wait and see if this can get back on it. But with the launch of several new games coming out (Star Wars the heaviest hitter), it will be surprising if they can make any money off of this IP.
A bit anxious about this. Shelved for 2-3yrs, then suddenly decide to resurrect. Percy Jackson books are out and we've got a movie on them...Clash of the Titans remake coming this summer. Seems to me that some exec. is probably hoping that this MMO can ride the coat-tails of these (assuming that Titans will be accepted and watched by mainstream public). Wondering if Titans tanks, will this game get shelved/dropped again. Hope I'm wrong, 'cause sounds like cool game and I'd like to check it out.
YESYESYESYESYES I am just so happy that Gods and Heroes is coming back.I was in closed beta testing and just was devestated when it was shut down.Bring it on guys lets get this going again WOOT YYEEEEHHHAAAAAAAA
I saw this game previewd at SOE Fan Fair and thought it was very beautiful in art. I loved the setting. I also seemed to be a very fully developed game. It impressed me more than its neighbor, Pirates of the Burning Sea. I was sad to hear it was shelved for more focus on STO before Perpetual tanked. I think, like PotBS, this game was going to be published by SOE but totally ran by Perpetual. I will be very interested in how this new life to the game goes. I hope its a success.
I was in the first wave of alpha, the game was different, and very historic. I liked it alot, I am glad its comming back loved the moves and my little gang I had. I hope they let us put on their armor and weapons again that was a sweet pet.
But with the launch of several new games coming out (Star Wars the heaviest hitter), it will be surprising if they can make any money off of this IP.
Just based on the subject matter this will be a niche game and as long as they understand that and target the appropriate market and not try to compete with 'The Secret World' or SWTOR or any of the others that are coming out they should do fine. To re-use a tired old saw; it won't be a WoW killer but it shouldn't even aim for that same market. I'd compare it more to PotBS's market - historical, sea fighting, pirates. Niche all the way.
Strike while the markets hot for this subject matter - Rome's not far gone, Sparticus is on, the Titan movie, Gods of War III. Heck there was even a movie on the SyFy channel yesterday from 2009 that was a re-telling of a Greek myth.
Go for it, I would rather have seen this than Perp's STO in the first place. Sign me up.

Well, I would have liked to have tried Perp's version of STO if it had been made. However you are correct on the target of this game. Its no surprise to reserrect this project just in time for the release of "Clash of the Titans". I think thats what these guys are trying to capitalize on IMHO.
There is no convenient timing here, they bought the rights quite awhile ago, like imo at least 6 months ago, because it was a VERY cheap deal and they wanted the platform/engine for their other game, witch has already been released,a DJ music game.
I have no idea why this game was never released, maybe it was finished but no publisher?Maybe it was not finished,in witch then we have to rely on these guys to finish it.Then after that ,they will dissect it for a cash shop setup. So imo the game has little chance of being something i would play for any length of time,as i am not going to pay for any cash shop.

I think the timing comes in not when they bought it, but with them looking at releasing it now while the subject matter is hot. It would make more sense to try and get something like this on the market now, than say a Babylon 5 game since it's been out of the public's eye for so long.
If I remember correctly Prep had been working on this awhile and got it to the Beta stage and than picked up the ST IP. With a choice of running 2 dev crews or concentrating on just one game, they decided to drop G&H and go with ST, which I'm sure they thought would be a sure winner.
Didn't seem to work out quite the way they hoped I'm sure.
Financial model is a big worry. P2p would be OK with alot of people and I'm sure a DDO style F2p with a limited cash shop would also be ok. The full blown, have to spend money to get out of the tutorial and buy a weapon wouldn't be. I'm sure it will need work to bring it up to 2010 standards and take care of any of the old Beta bugs.

yes there was. they have a lot of work to do. however i do not have hope that this will be anything other than a quest grinder.
it was bad when it was in beta

I was looking forward to this game back when it was originally in development. I'm a big Roman mythology fan! Can't wait to hear more about this!

I've wanted to play a game based on Greek/Roman mythology for a long time. Hopefully this will be a quality game.
