Based on FFXI and what you've read/seen of FFXIV previews, would you sign up for a lifetime subscription to FFXIV without hesitation if they offered it?
My personal answer is Yes.
(Apologies if this has been posted before, but don't wanna sift though tons of posts.)

I probably wouldn't do a lifetime subscription unless it was like $200 or so. I just jump in and out of games to fast (play for 8 months then take 2-3month break, then come back again, etc, stuff like that)
I'll probably just do monthly fees, but either way would be nice (:
So far there has not been 1 single game I would consider having paid for a lifetime subscription to, & I wouldn't ever do so until I had played & really enjoyed a game for some 6-12 months already.
This is the first MMO I'd consider the lifetime sub for.
lol, no way
I started FFXI on may 1st, 2004. (yes its weird that I even remember the date, but I do) I have 2 characters, so my monthly sub fee is $13.99. 6 years next month sooo 71 months of paid game time. 71x13.99= $993.29! Wow I'm even surprised to see that. So for people who get in at the start and play for many years on end this will be well worth it. If there is such a subscription, I would be the dumbest person ever if I didn't purchase it.
...I need to re-evaluate my spending apparently lol.
I don't think I'd ever sign up for a lifetime sub, even for a game I loved. heck, I never even buy blocks of time I just do the monthly sub.
For me, I never know if I will lose interest in the game or more imporatntly, the development will take a turn for the worst. Happened in Lineage 2. Was my first mmo and I didn't really know much about these games. I thought that there was a solid plan that would tie everything together but as the years rolled on I realize that stuff was being added just to be added.
I believe that a person should be able to vote with their wallet. So if I don't like a game stop paying for it. It could be to my detriment if I go years and am still playing it but even with LOTRO, which does offer a lifetime sub, I stopped playing for a while because the game play became horrid.

Simply...yes.
I would never buy a lifetime sub for any game, it is just too much money for the risk. I have bought several 3 month subs and one six month sub.
I have only ever played one game long enough to have saved money on a lifetime deal and I doubt this game will hold me for long enough.
Yeah I probably would depending on if I thought it had longevity. Spent 5 years playing FFXI off and on so it would have been nice there.

If you played FFXI you would realize how just exceptionally wonderful that game is. It is by far the most complete MMO of any kind. Everyone expects 14 to be like 11, it does have many of the same developers and designers. Another thing with 14 is because it is so similar to 11 it will be much more polished and "play ready" out of the gates. The games you mentioned, L2 and LOTRO I felt the same way. Those games are really fun but they just lack the completeness of a story that really captured me, and the game doesn't seem to capture you as much when it's completely solo-able to level. I'm not saying those games are easy, but it took me a full year to get my first 75 in ff11. Lifetime subs are always a risky business so if you don't plan on at least a full year of subing into the game then its definitly not worth it.
I'd do it because it's Square Enix, and to date I've never played anything of theirs that I didn't enjoy (of the games they develop themselves). The new details released just this week have confirmed just how unique the game is going to be as well... the combat is even more in-depth than FFXI's was, and that one is still one of the most interesting systems in the genre. I'm looking forward to seeing crafting classes supporting parties in active combat. :P
I have a lifetime sub to LotRO as well and never regretted it. Sure, there have been times when I haven't played the game, but I go back regularly just to see what's new. It's a nice breath of fresh air to jump into every now and then. It'll be the same with FFXIV regardless of how the game goes, and I'd easily get my money's worth out of it.
Yes, I've been playing FFXI on and off since October 23rd 2002, you know the release date for NA PC version. Lifetime sub would have been great and would have saved me a ton of money. That and I just had to cancel my content ID's because I ran out of money, yay to the jobless and terrible economy of America.
I wouldn't and I hope that FFXIV doesn't even offer it. The idea of a lifetime subscription almost implies that the developers are gambling that the game won't have a long life because after two years they would stop losing revenue because of those lifetime players.
I understand what you are saying but having a lifetime subscription wouldn't really imply anything, especially with a company that has the track record like Square Enix has. They havent' put out one product I ever saw rushed. There are tons of FFXI fans who would have wanted this game two years ago if Square released it, and Square knows it. They chose to take their time with this game and it is showing.
One thing you can say about Japanese MMOs vs the vast majority of Korean or American MMOs; they don't seem to be "pressured" by the head company to just throw any old shill out on the market and "fix" it later.
Westerners have gotten far to accepting of that as the status quo.
I'd definitely buy a lifetime sub to most any Japanese game.
"TO MICHAEL!"
For FFXIV? in a heratbeat sight unseen But SE would never ever ever ever ever in a zillion years offer one. They are very picky about their income, I mean god it is the only MMO out there where if you don't pay you will lose you character at some point. Still for another MMO that has the same wonderful comunity as FFXI...don't even have to think about it.
This sword here at my side dont act the way it should
Keeps calling me its master, but I feel like its slave
Hauling me faster and faster to an early, early grave
And it howls! it howls like hell!
As many other posters here, my POL ID goes back to Oct. 29th 2003. Over 6 years at $13 a month... Absolutely I would! Now, if SE looks at their books I am sure they would not even dream of offering it for only $200-300 as most lifetimes are. This game probably like XI will thrive off dedicated players more than the jump-in, jump-outs (not saying that is wrong or anything, just kind of a fact as to how hardcore FFXI...well was more than is now).
That being said I would probably consider a $300+ lifetime if I never had to worry about subscriptions again.
Just like most in this thread, I have been on 11 since graced us with it's US launch.
A lifetime sub would have saved me MAJOR money, and if it is offered for this game, I'll buy it up in a heart beat.
Not pre-release I wouldnt.
As a few of u stated a Life sub would have saved u a lot of money.... Exatly why SE wont offer 1 ! ;D
Depends on how much they want for it, I've never bought a lifetime sub. before, but if they where asking $200.00 (or less) I would get it, if they where asking 300+ I deffinitly would not.

Kind of OT but, I wonder how companies handle the ban stick when it comes to lifetime subscriptions. With monthly subscriptions they can ban you for any or no reason by just refusing to take your money. But if they already sold you a lifetime sub then Id guess they would either need to PROVE you broke terms, or refund full sub.
Lifetime Subs for FFXIV wouldn't be very beneficial to Square Enix when they know tons of people will sub every month, so on so forth. Why lose the money.
SE doesnt need to do it. And I would never life-time to any game. Its never in my best interest with new titles that come out over the course of a year or 2, and by doing so make my opinion matter no longer; because they already have my money.
yes i will buy if they offer lifetime sub.
