I thought I was gonna be able to stick it out with the game until CATA, But honesly.. I'm just not having fun with it anymore. Its not an mmo anymore in alot of ways. The Dungeon finger nailed the coffin in any social interaction outside of guilds, and when there is social interaction its in the form of complaining and yelling. Out of 10 dungeon runs, 1 group was talkative in a non threatening manner. All the adventure and such has been completely sucked out of the game. I wanted to hold out until the world gets revamped, but I just fear more of the same. It was once a fun game.. but now its just a lobby/game room.
You're late. I can't see logging in again. The few times I subbed up last year just ended in milling around in the game and feeling depressed. WoW just has too many good and bad memories for me and there's nothing there for creating new ones. Even my most hardcore friends have left. I might get cataclysm just to see some new content but it honestly doesn't interest me yet.
You see thats the problem wow is not just a game or a mmorpg its a tactical game if you dont know the players and dont want to talk you can never complete a instance in good time or a raid

2 clicks and you're into a group these days.
Perhaps play it ?
Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.
Personally I had more fun playing some F2P games than WoW , I think its highly overrated and its getting old , the gameplay mechanics are never as great as WoW fanboys say they are ,the graphics are totally out of date and even the LFG thing is now a common thing in most MMO .
IMO people that are still paying to play this game are trying to convince themselves and everyone around them that its still a good game, as it was before... like 5 years ago, when there was 90% less MMO as there are now. The time where WoW was a very good game worth paying for is definately over,
Its like an old love that WoW fanboys can't get over
go see the world fanboy its beautiful !
and when I talk about the world its not the world of warcraft ,
if your asking yourself of which world I'm talking about you've been playing for way too long.

wow is multiplayer online
aika is a massive multiplayer online
if you tried it you see the biggest diff is the number of player involved
was there last week end let me tell you even tho this game is simple it is a true mmo gem!
If you have an imagination, then it is a roleplaying game. I used to have grand roleplaying sessions with my guild, was some of the best times I had in the game. But it is sad there is such a lack of charater customization, no player housing, and no enforcement of RP rules on RP servers. Blizzard don't care because roleplayers are in the minority. I agree though...this game is feeling less and less like an MMORPG then a mostly single player experience, then suck up to people to get into raids for the neverending quest for better gear. End-game is depressingly repetitive and dull and the worst part of the game in my eyes.
Will the expansion end up making WoW an even more single player game than it already is?
My major complaint with WoW is the lack of stuff to do end game, why has Blizz not given the game a crafting system thats fun and meaningful to do, where's the guild halls and player housing? Where are things to do end game that dont include grind for gear in heroics or raiding?
WoW could use social games like a card game, or some kind of battle chess game... there is just nothing to do end game except stand around and chat and you cant even look good doing that anymore since everyone looks like a clone.
edit: you can switch heroics/raiding with pvp/arena if you like
still grinding for gear and nothing new... except for the fact arena is an unbalanced mess and ruined classes for pve
Played: MCO - EQ/EQ2 - WoW - VG - WAR - AoC - LoTRO - DDO - GW/GW2 - Eve - Rift - FE - TSW - TSO - WS - ESO - AA - BD Playing: Sims 3 & 4, Diablo3 and PoE Waiting on: Lost Ark Who's going to make a Cyberpunk MMO?
Will the expansion end up making WoW an even more single player game than it already is?
No because CATA is going to add guild leveling in both PVE and PVP.
I am most interested in the upcoming rated - ladder based Battleground competitions.
It would also be based on PvP guild play, which is awesome.
.
Guild leveling is far more important than personal houses btw, since what is the use of individual instances anyway for active gaming fun.
Once they have the rated BG competition in place and a rated guild play based on rankings, all ingredients are there to add whatever they want for the group guild play.
You can dream up what those ultimate guild rewards would be, but I wouldn't be very surprised if it would end up in guild houses or even keeps.
Blizzard builds this step by step and implement the changes when it actually adds to the gaming fun.
I am convinced the rated BG's will be played forever.
Want a real mmorpg? Play WOW with experience turned off mode and be Pve_Pvp King at any level without a rat race.
Guild levelling is a nice feature (assuming they will copy a system already implemented in other MMOs, AO or WAR come to mind). It would also be nice to capitalise on it and implement some sort of guild housing. I say guild housing, because I realise that player housing is something difficult to implement (I suppose they could follow either LOTRO or EQ2 on this, SWG is out of the question).
The werewolf is also a nice race choice. Much better than draenai for certain.
I'm hoping that the will return the lore to the steampunk roots of the original WoW. I'm not a nostalgic dreamer of the early days, I believe lots of good things have been included to the game over the years. Unfortunately, the space and aliens was not one of them.
Unfortunately, issues like the achievement grind and ranking grind will likely not be addressed.
Something else that will most likely not be addressed is the need for 3rd party addons to make the UI functional (raid frames instantly come to mind). Hopefully, once cataclysm arrives, the game will be playable without the need of any kind of addon (like most MMOs out there).
Finally, I don't see how they will manage to keep up with times. The game engine was aging badly years ago and its only saving grace was the cartoony graphics and good character animation. Lets hope they will keep up with the other MMO developers that don't have the huge badgets, but are willing to invest in scalable graphics quality (for example EVE and LOTRO).
The game itself is fine, its to bad it attracts so many scumbags and jerks, that its almost unplayable.
I agree but I mean the game has millions. There are also other MMOs with worse communities: Darkfall, I play and man....what a community of jerks. But like every MMO just don't respond to what they are talking about, and find a mature guild, and you'll do better.

You're obviously burnt out. Take a break. You will probably look back at this post and say "what the fuck was I thinking?"
Because seriously.. what the fuck are you thinking?
I think the quality of the communities are directly related to the kind of game they are referenced to.
For example, as a general rule of thump, cooperative PvE games (LOTRO) have more relaxed and gentle communites than antagonising PvP games (Darkfall). It's not that you can't find annoying people in the former or mature people in the later, but it seems that the game mechanics themselves promote certain behavioral paterns.
WoW is a mixed animal. You can have both type of players, because you can find both type of gameplay elements.
Also keep in mind that one person that irritate you sticks into memory more than 100 respectful ones.
You're obviously burnt out. Take a break. You will probably look back at this post and say "what the fuck was I thinking?"

You really think it is so odd that anyone gets tired of a computer game after 6 years? OP got tired of the game and to me it sounds like that is the end of it, I doubt he will be back just because he takes a break. Everything gets boring if you do it long enough and Wow isn't really the game it was at launch, there are always some people that don't like the way their MMo is evolving.
No reason to be rude because of that.
But Wow is a MMO (Of course I also think that Guildwars is a MMO).

I completely agree with you. He is burnt out and probably needs to move on to something else. It is not odd.
But, is it really accurate to say "WoW is not an MMO anymore" because of a burnt out player who is tired of the game? The game is still an MMO just like global agenda is still an MMO.
Seen a lot of burnt outs recently. But peeps go away to a new game or app, see how shite or a scam it is and then return to WoW and burn out all over again. Blizzard are leading us all with a carrot shaped sword onna stick.
Didn't read all the eight pages, however the players and the focus of players in MMOs (letting out the RPG here, because the last MMORPG was release quite a while ago) has changed as well.
We went from times where you actually met another player in the wilds and were happy about it as you receive some help in your adventures to times where people just perceive other people they meet by chance as a nuisance and competition. The mentality of players in the genre has changed, however I tend to believe it is not the mentality that has changed, as this is more or less founded and based in the character of a person. It is just that the player base has changed by a lot and players who come into the genre have a different focus for their gaming experience. They don't play games to socialize, they play games for other reasons. This is fine. Nobody can be blamed for playing a game like they desire, the main problem is that this way of playing doesn't fit the way of playing the OP desires, nor is it fitting the way I like to play MMOs.
I found lately that the community in Lord of the Rings Online is pretty sound, so from 10 times I met other players in the wilds, 8 times we formed a group, had a chat, killed our mobs for the quest together and advanced. But then again, this can't be considered representative, it is merely an example of a positive gaming exprience.
All in all there is no solution and no perfect game. You just have to check the market and pick what floats your boat the most. Making compromises is not easy, but unavoidable.
So all in all I agree with the OP and had the same experiences with WoW, but I am trying to see things a bit more objective and tend to believe that people make different experiences and adore the game therefore. It is somehow true however, that the game caters to the fact that socializing is less needed through it's game mechanics, but this is the way MMOs go these days and nobody will stop it, as long as those games create such huge revenue.
Seen a lot of burnt outs recently. But peeps go away to a new game or app, see how shite or a scam it is and then return to WoW and burn out all over again. Blizzard are leading us all with a carrot shaped sword onna stick.
Two things, IMO, are killing WOW:
1) New LFG Tool. WIth insta-port (trivializes game world, eliminates "the journey), and cross-server grouping (this means zero-community building). Also, accelerates gameplay at a time when Blizz is trying to buy more time while working on expansion, so basically they implemented a tool that works against their own efforts.
2) Dalaran. (Plane of Knowledge, anyone?) Empties out game world; everyone hangs out in the artificial city of Dalaran. Feels like Guild Wars.
Yeah it's a mystery why blizzard moved WoW into the arena with games like guild wars. It's exactly the same concept atm, and guild wars doesn't have subscription costs
LFG Tool .. it takes the headache out of spamming "geared dps lfg H daily" for 20 min. It is MUCH better to do it this way. It also makes the older dungeons a fun way to level.

Ya know I actually agreed with this statement up until about a month ago...
I rolled a new toon and leveled her to 70 just by sitting in SW instance grinding, and it was fun! I'm not kidding I love WOW's instances.
Then after I hit about 74 I said to myself "WTF am I doing? what is the point of this? what is the point of having an enormous game world without any reason to go out and explore it? WTF is the point of my EPIC flying mount without any reason to go out and fly it around and show it off?"
Blizzard IS ruining their game one patch at a time.

To me, WoW is never MMO to me !! EVER !!!
Not much roleplaying-aspect, no housing, etc.... compare to old games like Asheron's Call .... this is not even close to call MMO !!

you are saying that its a shame that the community is harsh to each other...glad it dosent reflect our community outside the games.
