Atari is just whoring Cryptic out. Cryptic can do better than this imo. NCSOFT was supposedly really bad for them too. I guess that's what it's like on the bottom rungs.
No, Cryptic can't do better than this as they seem to have left most of their actual talent behind in CoH/CoV. Don't forget that Cryptic was the one that was pushing the "We can mass produce MMOs" line before Atari came along. Also don't foget that Cryptic has made a habit of producing shallow games that would be far better as single player games. Frankly the two companies deserve one another, and hopefully the good MMO companies out there will not touch any of Cryptic's executive team when they eventually get canned by Atari.
That is a realistic argument and I will not dispute it.

Most are by people who haven't played for some time, if at all. So I'd not read anything into it. Unfortuantly for some reason this site attracts general MMO haters, who get attached to a game/company to bash. In this case its because quite a few of them ended up getting banned from the STO forums for their attitude, so have gone on a campaign. Which I guess will continue until the next game comes along to get banned from.
Based upon the number of instances for Starbase-1 and the population in each. Numbers are down from launch, but only to around what a typical industry % drop off would be.
The fact is STO was released before it should have been and incomplete in many areas. Although why getting upset over a game is beyond me. If its enjoyable to some, but not to others its not a big deal. There's much more important things in life. So yeah, there are upset people. However there's also people who actually like the game, despite seeing room for improvement.

Do you have proof of this? A lot of people try to negate negative threads by saying these players no longer play. And, if it is posted by a person that has already left the game, there is a reason they left. So, in my opinion, they have a right to voice their dismay over the game.
Cryptic tricked me once with CO. I expected STO to be the same and when I played in the beta, I think my concerns were justified. I will no longer support Cryptic or any of their games. To me, thay have lost all credibility.
People who have left a game have just a valid opinion as those that play. The questionable actvity is in them lingering trying to spread discontent, when not playing any longer.
There's a huge difference between stating an opinion and going on a campaign to discredit a game/company. The proof of which can be easily seen in this forum, by simply checking people's post.
To you they have lost credibility, which is fine. Its your opinion and very valid for you.
Problem is you'll never find one. As anyone who says anything positive towards a MMO, even if they can see loads of problems, is branded one these days.
Personally I'd not take a haters word on anything, as they are warped just as much as a genuine fanbio's is. The best advice is if unsure wait for a free demo and make your own mind up, or ask someone who's played that you know has a common taste.
I am a "Lifer" and don't plan to leave. Will that be reported on these forums as "Lifers Staying"? Probably not. After all, bad news seems to catch more flies then good. I am frankly and eagerly looking forward to upcoming additions to the game. Especially looking forward to Season 2 in July and Season 3 this Fall. So, I am a "Fanman". (Fanboy doesn't apply as for my age ).

And a few people spring to mind. They bombard this forum with posts and threads as if cryptic were baby killers. Some of them start 4 or 5 threads, the saddest of which is the common practice here of linking to a "quit" or "complaint" on the official boards it's really quite shocking the level of dedication they display in bad mouthing cryptic. It would be admirable if the campaigning were for a noble cause ~ not for spending $50, out of free choice, on something they found wanting.
As I said earlier I think some people have lost perspective. Had their money been stolen from them, or conned into handing over money for nothing yeah. There is little excuse as STO had an open beta allowing people to try it out.

The discontent is all on Cryptics shoulders. Lets not release Cryptic from that. The majority view in the mainstream gaming circles is that STO is a pretty bad game. Thats not anyone posting heres fault, thats Cryptics.

They didn't let us try out end game - which is one of the big flaws in the game.
It was a scam. When the company is offering lifetime subs before release - you know it is a scam.

The company is at fault here, that's true but those 'mainstream gaming circles" are behaving as vengeful ex-wifes. The best thing you can see recently in the new threads are vague reference to bad features or lack of good ones, and that if you really dig deep. The rest is cryptic ate my babes they should be put out for good. I am happy I am not in a "gaming circle" if that is their common behavior.

If a company's business model is based around churning out MMOs on the cheap and it turns out two MMOs cheaply that really are CHEAP, then how is it not sensible to call them on that? How is it not sensible to say you shouldn't buy their products since they are going to continue with this same terrible business model that makes bad games?
The biggest hyperbole in this thread is the accusation that the people upset with Cryptic are saying that it "ate their babies" or the like.
As I said earlier I think some people have lost perspective. Had their money been stolen from them, or conned into handing over money for nothing yeah. There is little excuse as STO had an open beta allowing people to try it out.

Yeah sure, I'm guessing LotRO is a scam aswell then.
End game is not a big flaw, no more than any other game that has raiding. A flaw is lack of diversity in end game, but that can be said about a lot of MMOs. Maybe if you had read the STO beta forums you would have seen the game was going to be released with no end game, which by the way isn't uncommon for the industry. Never mind testing it. They didn't exactly keep it quiet. Open beta does not equal a free demo, its there for testing. Nobody was scammed or conned.

Maybe because people actually enjoy them. Not everyone is after a MMO that you have to quit real life for.

Im sorry but the defense that somehow its the consumers fault for calling out a company that makes crappy products is plain wrong. This game got uniformaly bad revies across the board. THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY to slam Cryptic or STO. Cryptic made a bad game, used some shady marketing tactics, and some poor choices in how they handle their community members , and they are now reaping what they sowed.
Crappy projects is extremely subjective. Its not fact, its just an opinion. Which many would disagree with.
Subjectively I think Aion and (the now watered down) WoW are crappy products, but I doubt those playing would agree.
Just because one doesn't like something, doesn't make them right. Not even if there's a majority. In the latter case, it simply means they have the most popular opinion. It does not negate the opinion of those with a less popular stance.
There is very strong evidence, simply by the posts being made here, that there are people out to simply discredit Cryptic and any game they put out. Just as there are for other games.
Crappy projects is extremely subjective. Its not fact, its just an opinion. Which many would disagree with.
Not really. Sure, you can find some people that will like anything, but quality has certain measurable quantities associated with it. Depth of gameplay, amount of content, etc, etc, etc. STO lacks nearly all of these. One measure of this failure is the very, very poor subscription numbers STO has, especially for a very hyped product of a major IP.
Popularity does not measure any games success to someone playing it. All that matters is they enjoy it. The only thing the company running it is interested in, is it being fiancially viable. Yeah, the more profit for them the better, but profit is profit. If both are actually occuring the game is successful, just with varied popularity.
There are many MMO with far less subscription numbers than STO. Anyone playing the game and checking out the main social hub can see around same number of instances at launch, for that area. The drop off has been no greater than the majority of MMO's shortly following release. Very, very, very, low subsciprtion quotes are mostly just posted as a finger in the air job by those wishing it was the case. Which some people are actually falling for.
This is not the forum to post if you are a craptic fanboy
And who set this rule? you?
He's not making a rule, he's talking about the environment. The same way a forum for evolutionary biologists isn't the place for "intelligent" design fanboys. That is, he's making an observation, not a mandate.

Great you like something that the mainstream community has declared crappy. That doesnt make all those others wrong, it just means you like something that is wildly regarded as being below standard.
There is no evidence of people out to sabotage Cryptic man, there is just you grasping at straws and making excuses for Cryptic. No one could of done a better job at sinking Cryptic proverbial ship than Crytpic did to it self. You really need to stop blaming the community for what this company did to it self.
