Wouldn't a single player RPG, or even a Diablo style RPG suit you,  and the game, much better then? Vast majority of MMOs are already as solo friendly as they're probably going to get.

What's the point of an MMO if it doesn't give some kind of benefit for interacting with the other people? Nothing massive about running a private instance with 4 buddies. Again, that's Diablo.

    well "no".

People who solo in mmo's are not looking for a solo game. I wish more people would try to understand that.

There is a palpable difference for me when playing Oblivion when compared to soloing in an mmo.

Having players around you that you can interact with is what makes that difference.

    Grouping/not grouping, doesn't matter.

But we just keep getting people who don't get this. No matter how many times players who solo keep saying it. I apologize if that comes off as being rude and that isn't my intention. But it is the actual fact of the matter.

Yes, the game play in a solo game is usually better. But once I finish that solo game, even if it has downloadable content, it as if my character is "done".

I love my dragon age characters but even with the downloadable content they have a very finite feeling to them. In an mmo they don't.

Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

Try to read properly please. He clearly said FORCED to group. players should be given an option to group or not. Implementing intentional block in player progression leads to more frustration then fun.

No mainstream MMO has FORCED anyone to group since like, 2003.

Final Fantasy did. Also if  grouping is such an  awesome idea why games like LOTR, WOW, EQ2 etc are making lower to medium zones soloable? because players want to level up and progress without inteintional road blocks. Games should give players an option of choosing whether they want to group or solo. In my opinion the only grouping should be at the end game instead of frustrating player at low levels when there is lack of interest in grouping.

The only grouping should be at the END? Well you've just revealed yourself to be entirely biased. What's wrong with groups of people talking together, having fun, meeting eachother, and getting through content faster? I guess that's not as feasible now, because all the "wonderful" people that WoW drew into the market aren't really as social or friendly as in old MMOs, so grouping is not nearly as enjoyable. That and grouping in modern MMOs just amounts to "share this quest, follow dotted line, kill boss mob, disband".

Too early to tell if im going to try it. I know I wont preorder it regardless of how awesome it might sound near launch.

So far the 2-faction system kinda turns me off, and if theres too many themepark-features that will probably turn me off as well. So I have a wait-and-se approach right now.

  • HaukenHauken Member UncommonPosts: 649

Im really not sure. What im sure about is that a pre-order is out of the question in either case. So im prolly gona wait and see. And see what kind of rewiews the game gets after launch.

Truth is im getting real fed up with classes, the standard healer, tank, DPS system and levels that creates gaps between noobs and vets. Not to mention endless repeative raids where the way to beat the dungeon is: you stand there, you there, at that moment cast that spell and that spell. The same over and over and over again.....

If there only were 3 factions.... Bounty hunting could then be such a rewarding profession....

It will be the first time, but I am waiting until after it's released or I have a chance to try it before I buy it. I am not really a fan of Bioware's linear tunnel games. Just walk along the tunnel to the next quest. If it is anything like DA or ME then probably not. To me all they do is re-release the same game over and over, changing the name and the graphics.

I know people like Bioware and that's great. I only speak for myself. I do hope it turns out good though as I am a huge Star Wars fan. But I'm not going to get excited for it simply because it says Star Wars and I won't say I will never play it because it says Bioware.

I surely will give it a go, if I dont like it then I will probably not keep playing it. One can not know until one acually plays it how it will be.

Blizzard was a stroke of pure lucky timing, and copying EverQuest. Nothing more. And I don't doubt that SWTOR will be successful, I doubt whether or not it'll be a real MMO. Much like when WoW came out, it completely shifted the direction of MMO away from what most fans wanted, and catered to a new group of super cusual instant gratification Starcraft players/kids/housewives. SWTOR is moving towards even more casual than that. And with instances, I doubt anything in this game will be "massive"

So is it a bad thing? from your post it seems as if gaming is something exclusive only for hardcore players? reaching masses is good as it bring people from various aspects of life into gaming. variety is always good as it provides devs with a lot of room to try different things rather then cater to a small elite groups of players who like to spend 12 hours a day in front of PC.

The precise point is that they don't try a bunch of different things to cater to different people. They focus on very small simple things as to not possibly do anything to turn off anyway, so the widespread mass scale games lack any kind of innovation, creativity, or depth, because those 3 things do not pull in gamers, simplicity and tried and true formulas do. Sorry if you want to peg me as a hardcore elitist, but I'm just tired of having the same games pumped out over and over again. And who said people sit 12 hours in front of a PC? How is that relevant at all?

The widespread mass games being devoid of any innovation or creativity is matter of opinion.

Er, how exactly do you figure that? Can you name any big MMO innovations in the past 5 years? If anything they've gone backwards.

    Alternate Advancement.

If the choices for a particular instance are: a) join a group, b) don't see that content, then that is forced grouping.   I want to experience content without being forced to join a group to do so.

Thank you to Sovrath and Shastra for getting it.

The way it works is: you engage in dialogue, it shows you talking to the guy like in Mass Effect and blurs out anyone standing in the background, conversation finishes: you're back to where you were with other people running around.

Big cinematic moments: those take place in instances like they should.

In the end: 90% of game is open.

Because in these dialogue trees you're given the option to kill the quest NPC and stuff like that, which means, instanced. Almost all the quests will be. And that seems to be the only draw of the game, therefore, most of the game will be instanced.

Did you not read what I was saying?

This is not speculation, this is the way it works, as seen in hands-on playtime through various people.

They can easily make 1 NPC disappear for the rest of the world through phasing, which means stuff is made visible or invisible once certain conditions are met.

Am I excited for the game? Feel these nipples..

One concern of mine is how/if the PvP system will pan out. I haven't done very much research on the game itself, other than what I have seen on trailers/gameplay videos on youtube.

I cant agree with amny people here on the formus that have already they are not going to play the game because of X Y or Z. Because we really dont have that much information to base our opions on.

On what are you basing your decision to play it?

I will wait for a 14 day trail before I make my decision. I have loved all the Bioware games I have played from BG all the way to ME2, but I have been burnt on to many MMOs over the last few years. I will never pre-order or buy another one until I can try it!

8 ball is saying "No" right now. The story stuff isn't a hook for me and we've only had lip service, no tongue with respect to crafting. So, that said, it'll depend on if I get into beta and see first hand or maybe a trial a few months after. But most likely I can tell just by the descriptions of the features by people playing if I'm interested.

  • DerWotanDerWotan Member Posts: 1,012
Not sure yet, thinking I'll be playing FF14. Maybe playing the story and then moving on, because honestly I'm not seeing much despite the story in this game. If EA is introducing some kind of DLC, cashshop its a definately no.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

    i will play, why not?

I've bought most of the games that have come out for SW even the shitty ones like that RTS game I can't remember the title but it was so bad it's not even worth remembering so no loss there.

I'll be playing it simply because I'm a SW fanboy...... If i don't like it I'll stop playing.

From what I've see of the game none of the little details that people complain about don't really bother me.

It's the force! Lucasarts uses it to mind trick me into buying there stuff!

im gonna try it.  The only games im playing is STO, SWG, and soon to be SWTOR.

Sorry, no cookie, Dark Age of Camelot and EverQuest already ate it.

DAoC in particular had about 18+ unique classes, and each had different specializations. A wizard could be earth fire or ice, or any mix of the three. An armsman could be a sword and shield, mace and shiled two handed sword, pole arm, shield and parry spec, crossbow and shield spec, any combination of them.

And I think EQ was the first game to call something AA points.

I was extremely excited to hear that someone was making a new Star Wars MMO, but after seeing what bioware has shown us, I will now wait until the trial comes out before I spend a dime on it.

If more people did this we'd get better games on release day. I've been doing it since 2003, after SWG's launch I'll never start out at launch ever again. Here's the thing, they do pre-orders to make up for those they lose on launch day and the months following. Because the plan is to make as much on or by launch day as possible. Because once feedback starts coming in they lose sales until word of mouth becomes positive. With most games that still hasn't happened so they continuously lose sales and potential customers. Does it seem like they really care? Nope they made enough by launch to not care.. See STO.

Until we as customers stop paying for products we haven't recieved, things will continue as is. The longer we continue doing so the more and more these companies will grow cryptic and concealing. Just look how they handle Betas today, they wait until a week before their planned launch to open it up, and only allow the beginning areas to be seen. This is wrong in so many ways, but we continue to support it with our money.

After sooo many disappointing releases in MMOs the last few years...

After messing up horribly by NOT listening to what SO MANY said about STO here... that it was a waste and not to buy it...

No, I won't be playing SW:TOR for at least 6 months after release, and then only if they add a few more classes to the mix and maybe a true third faction. I personally feel like if .. "If you like lightsabers you will be happy, and if you don't, you won't" applies to TOR. I had hopes for maybe Pilot or Droid Commander, or any other class besides Jedi/Sith or Henchman.

SW:TOR doesn't appeal to me much and it is probably because I feel the Jedi/Sith thing has been done to death. SW:TOR is 7 years too late as I see it.

Now that my opinion is stated (as if anyone would care) I will say this:

I seriously hope for SW:TOR to meet it's Players expectations; that SW:TOR will be a great game and have a very good Testing period and release. The MMO genre needs a success story right now badly.

I am the Player that wonders... "What the %#*& just happened?!"
