( i do some online virus scans but get no result ) I think i have some virus. there's also 'Generic Host Process for Win32 Services' i have to let have internet connection before i can browse.
can some1 help me?..
Are you running a firewall? I'm using ZoneAlarm and had the same connectivity problems as you are having. You need to allow Generic Host Process for Win32 Services access. If you're using Win2000 and/or WinXP then you will need to allow this process access for internet connectivity.
If in doubt, just google your question.

not necessarily...right now there are bearly any 64 bit applications compared to the 32 bit ones.
Well, looking towards gaming..
it matters really on WHICH 64 you're getting, if you're getting something like a 3200 over a 3.6, you're much better going with the 3.6 (it also has 512 more k cache)
Personally I'm not going to go 64 for a while...once I see a higher development of 64 bit applications, then yea. But not now.
I've just heard its really supposed to catch on later this year, don't want to buy a processor then it be way behind when all the 64-bit stuff comes out. and i decided to just go with building a desktop, easier than a notebook to upgrade if/when its needed. Looking at getting an athlon 64 3500, or would it be better to go for the extra L2 on an intel 3.4 GHz?
Another question, are there any performance differences in a socket 754 and 939 processor?
new chipsets are just like beta testing games, cept you can delete games and programs... now is the time to wait alittle bit longer to see whats going to happen....i'm using a p4 now, but when i got my p4, it was during the battle of amd chipsets over the new p4s and who knew what was really going to happen; did anyone even win?

If you are going to build an AMD Athlon64 system, I would recommend going with socket939 over socket754. The only reason to go with socket754 would be if your budget didn't allow for you to build a socket 939 system.
Pros of socket 939 over socket 754:
1. Dual channel memory controller. Running dual channel memory on a socket939 platform gives it about a 2 to 5% increase in performance over socket754.
2. Longer lifespan of the platform in that the last Athlon64s for the socket 754 are scheduled to be phased out of production by the end of 2005.
3. More headroom for upgrade ability. New core revisions and new cpus for the socket 939 platform, including some of AMDs budget 32bit Sempron cpus, are slated for this plaform for at least the next 2 years not to mention the incorporation of new computer tech. PCI-Express is currently now available on socket939 boards on the nVidia nF4 and VIA K8T890 chipsets. DDR2 is not expected to hit this platform until late 2005 or early 2006.
4. Entry level socket939 system with an .90nm winchester cored Athlon64 3000+ is only about $50 more than an entry level socket754with an .130nm newcastle cored Athlon64 3000+.
Overall, the performance gap of the socket939 will continue to widen over the socket754 with new core revisions and cpus. New core revisions, revision E, that will add some new architecture as well as an improved memory controller should start to be available as soon as this quarter and this is estimated to add another 5% boost in performance over revision D cpus.
As far as choosing an Intel P4 over an AMD Athlon64, the decision is up to you and neither is a bad choice. Typically the AMD choice will cost less, depending on what cpu you get as you can spend a lot if you went with an Athlon64 4000+, FX-53 or FX-55 cpu, than an equivalent P4, run cooler and use less power. I still recommend Intels over AMDs if you are going to be doing a heavy amount of video encoding and work in addition to playing games or if you plan on running a CAD application on your system for work and/or school. Other than that, I recommend AMD Athlon64 systems over Intel for gaming systems.
I'm kind of on a budget right now, and have a Geforce FX 5200 128mb card in my comp right now. While it 'gets the job done' so to speak, I would really like a better card, but haven't really the funds.
Last night I found a Radeon 9600 Pro 256mb for around 90 bucks. Is this a good price for that card, and how much better is it than what i've got?

in some cases the 256 out performs the 128..here's the same card with half as much memory for twenty bucks less
What problems are you having with the 9800 XT, exactly?
I have the same card, and haven't really had any problems..except this wierd one, where every couple of weeks, games will have randomly blue textures. Fonts won't show up right, transparencies get screwed all to hell, and a couple of other things display incorrectly.
Reinstalling the drivers and re-booting always fixes it though, and it's a refurbished card, so that may have something to do with it.

Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

that happens, and also if I'm playing a high end game, (take eq2 for example) after an hour or two the window shuts down witha message saying "vpu recovery, your graphics card wasn't responding to messages so it has been reset"

I hope you get this info in time b4 you buy the 9600pro. I would recommend the 6600 non gt (128 mb version). It cost about 140 bucks but performs inbetween a 9700pro and 9800pro in olders games and at a 9800pro level in newer games since its based off new tech. Also its fairly easy to overclock the core clock of the card from its default 300 mhz to 450 which would place it ahead of 9800xt.

Is it possible to lose performance (as in speed) by spilling a beverage on your computer? Like Bawls.. (yea, damn is right) I've noticed my computer going slow since then. I took everything out and cleaned behind the motherboard tray, but ...well, performance is still lacking

What you have done is spilled liquid onto chipsets that don't like water. YOu can't repair it yourself, but you may be able to get a warrenty in effect.

Latly i seem to be having problems with my monitor. At times it starts to shake and with that i mean the image, mostly at the very middle. Does this mean my monitor is going bye bye (Hurraah xD!) or something not as bad?

If you are getting artifacts and it is an LCD, its life is indeed ending.

I've found a sapphire ATI x700 pro with 256mb - 8 parallel pixel pipelines - Full support for DirectX® 9.0,... for only 195 dollar. I gues it's just a matter of finding the right store. but a geforce 6600gt would certainly be sufficient, for now.

doesn't the FX series of cards have DX9 issues, though?
Just curious, thought i had heard that before
I would get a 6600gt agp if i could, but i can't afford 200 bucks right now. Looking for something to get me by for a few months
well I have a 9800 XT 256 card, and to be completely honest, the catalyst drivers suck
really bad.
SO my next card is going to be with nvidia... I mean, I really don't like the catalyst drivers
lol

I'm thinking about the following setup formy pc:
-amd 3500+ proccesso
-radeon x800pro
-1 gigabyte ram ( 2* 512 mb)
-120 gb
-MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum Nforce4 DDR400,SATA,2xGlan,PCI-X
i think this would be sufficient to run everything without any problems.
That would prolly do it for a while. what kind of cpu r u getting? i like shuttles they are pretty
That should run everything out there quite well Ath.
My system atm is:
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
GeForce3 Ti200
1GB RAM
Do you think replacing my GeForce3 Ti200 with a GeForce 6600GT would be a smart idea?
Any other video card that you think would be better WITHIN $210?

I think the 6600GT would be your best bet for that price range, and its a good card too. Definately worth it.
