    Please explain,...please???

I think its one of 2 things, he is either:

    a) just trolling

or b) confusing art style with (everything else in a game)

Yeah the art style looks somewhat similar to WoW, though not quite a shorribly cartoony, but WoW and everything else Warcraft is based on Warhammer to begin with, so its actually that this game looks like Warhammer, and WoW looks like Warhammer, not this game looks like WoW. But beyond the artistic stuff, it looks nothing like WoW. Just look at the FPS style combat, that alone sets this game apart hugely from WoW.

err no not trolling and not confused, just some of the scenes(mostly Orks) look like wow to me is all

..how does WoW look like Warhammer?

Warhammer has been around since long before even the first Warcraft game was made. Warcraft was originally intended to be a Warhammer game, but GamesWorkshop the makers of Warhammer turned it down, so Blizzard went and made Warcraft instead, basically taking nearly 100% of their stuff from Warhammer, including much of the overall look/style, and just changed some of the lore around a little, and then came the sequels and then WoW. All if it dates back to their copying of the Warhammer IP, so essentially nothing Warhammer actually looks like WoW, its the other way around, WoW looks like Warhammer.

    I see..

Wasnt aware of that, thanks for the info

I thought orcs are from Tolkien?

    .

    Games Workshop invented orcs? Whoa!

Never said that. Im talking general design of the games themselves, not particularly Orcs or anything from books. The majority of what Warcraft was came directly from the old Warhammer games, and since then they have expanded, but when people see a new Warhammer game its always "they copied WoW" when it was really WoW that copied Warhammer.

Well the way Warhammer Online looks, it can be differentiated from World of Warcraft..

As for Warhammer 40k mmo, maybe i'll change my mind when they release more footage/screenies.

    O_O

Usually I end up checking out these trailers and find them rather meh or simply lame.

However, I must say that one was actually pretty tight.  That was a nice trailer they put together.  Got me interested.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Love how you keep putting words in my mouth. Do you have a reading comprehension problem or something? You're listing mechanics/features of a game, things that have absolutely nothing to do with the design & look of the game world or the things that are in it. I never said anything about GW making a computer game, only that the Warcraft computer games took much of what was in them from the original Warhammer games and they have built on that.

    If it's just

    SM & IG v CHAOS & Orks I'll pass.

THQ's first fail in my eyes would be that.

For there to be NO Eldar, Tau, Dark Eldar, Inquisition Forces This would greatly sadden and displease me.

There IS NO Dark Millenium w/o those extra four included.

CHAOS are wicked but Dark Eldar are the epitomy of Darkness

If they think for one minute the 4 Races 2 factions bullcrap will fly as usual they're looking to declare bankruptcy soon afterwards.

2 Factions COULD work if they insert the correct people here and there.

the Ulthwe Eldar aren't opposed to working with the Imperium they just dislike the way they do things but have helped in the past against overwhelming odds.  The Tau keep to themselves mostly but have assisted the SM in a couple endeavors just to keep them from being wiped off the planet even though the Tau empire itself conflicts with IG alot.

Dark Eldar enjoy trailing behind the forces of CHAOS and the Orks as it means there's LOTS of bodies with tons of souls to collect for their dark purposes.

Necrons & Tyranids are a no I've stated it a bazillion times the Necrons are ruled by the necron lord with 0 independant thought the Nids are total hive mind mentality. So what 1 does they all do.

I wouldnt doubt that theyll be saving the other factions for expansions..though i do doubt they add ALL the factions..(that would be friggin awesome if im wrong)

I would love to play as IG though..

Two sided conflict with the same old MMO style.  Oh well there's other games at least.

That is damn depressing...Well, looks like I can go ahead and opt out of this one.

Seriously?  Have they learned nothing from the previous problems in factional PvP?  WAR has spent it's entire released life attempting to compensate and patch in ways to alleviate population and realm balance for their lack of oversight with two sided factional RvR.

This is yet another major blow for up-coming games, but hopefully this one is still far enough out that it may change.  Otherwise you can kiss any meaningful PvP/RvR/whatever good bye.

This is the first time in a VERY long time that I watched a gameplay trailer for an MMO and was genuinely impressed.

Sure, the SW:tOR trailers might be more dramatic, but it's all CG. Ultimately, CG trailers are entirely superfluous and the videos featuring actual gameplay look very generic.

Agreed, this is a just plain retarded move on their part if they stick to it when its already been proven with the Warhammer IP that 2 factions = fail. Its almost like watching all the companies still making WoW clones thinking theyre going to somehow do WoW bette rthan Blizzard did, they just dont learn their lesson.

Yeah just checked out the official site for info and am thinking that it will be not a game I will play. It sounds like a specific scenario/campaign in a specific sector of the 40k universe. If so then that could leave out several other factions from 40k even some chapters of space marines/chaos, oh well maybe it won't be that way but I am not holding my breath.

If this is an MMOFPS I will be excited, but if it's just the same ol' washed up MMO combat mechanics, I'll be meh :/

  • WonderMikeWonderMike Member Posts: 7

    C'mon, what did people expect?

That we would have like 8 factions PvPing the hell out of each other? that wouldn't work.

Besides, the forces of order probably will be the space marines and the imperial guard (nothing farfetched here, and balance wise the IG could very well be a "pet" class where you have squad members as "pets") and the forces of destruction - chaos and the orks (orks being manipulated has been overdone in the past but HEY!).

I truly hope this game will have more than two factions at start. If they plan to bring more factions at later stages it will be way too late as the original launch will dictate the public opinion.

in W40K there are so many different factions that it is understandably impossible to bring them all in at start. But they should atleast try to bring some of them and not use only two sides. The factions I would like to see in the start are

    Space Marines

    Imperial Army

    Eldar

    Orcs

    Chaos  - Khorne

    Chaos - Tzeentzh

    Chaos - Nurgle

Basically Marines, Army and Eldar being 'good' side and Orcs and Chaos forces taking 'evil' side. So that good can't ally with evil side, but in situations they can also fight between themselves.

1.) The art style is cartoony cutsy crap.

2.) They are going for a teen rating which means no blood, gore or anything which may actually capture the nature of the 40K universe.

3.) Where have I seen this idea before????????????????????????

On the very edge of the galaxy lies the Sargos Sector. For centuries it was rendered uninhabitable and isolated by volatile Warp Storms. Even now, deep within the sector the very fabric of reality is unraveling. Only the ancient Sentinel Devices hold the Warp at bay.

But the ravages of time and meddling of humanity have weakened the Sentinel Devices-and now, the battle for these ost worlds is at hand. Drawn to the conflict, the great races of the galaxy descend upon the Sargos Sector, seeking to preserve reality-or to tear it asunder.

Side with the forces of Order, or the vile hosts of Destruction, in a war that will unlock ancient secrets, reveal dark purposes, and determine the fate of the Sargos Sector. For in this dark millennium, there is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter.

Sigh....this image sums up my view of the bastardization of the 40K IP.

Since they're not even in Alpha yet I would suggest they check current public opinion and ADD to their game

OH THQ of DoW 1 & 2 Where art thou?

WAR not having the blood and guts was fine but WH40k NOT having that sorta thing? Wrong so wrong.

Also just SM & IG v CHAOS & Orks with no one else in the mix ALSO WRONG DEAD wrong.

THQ YOU TELL Vigil what THEY NEED to do, Not Vigil telling you WHAT THEY ARE going to do

There's a BIG reason why WH40k sells. It's gritty it's dark there is NO Pure good everything is a shade of grey and the bad guys are well...EVIL!

The Orks are vicious and mass in numbers ready for the WAAAGH! at any moment, CHAOS seeks to consume all, The Dark Eldar seek to enslave all.

Graphics are good they're akin to a full blown 3D DoW 2 art style but so far what we're hearing is Hey be prepared for the NOT so Dark Millenium where you can only play SM, IG, CHAOS, and Orks. Oh you wanted Eldar, Dark Eldar, Inquisition, and Tau? Wait for our Expansion Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millenium Online - Happy Fluffy Pink Rainbows with Sugar Gum Drops and Lollipops.

That teaser trailer for the game better be a VERY Rough draft.

    WH40k NEEDS ALL it's races

It NEEDS Blood & Gore for an M Rating (Warhammer is a Teen IP, Warhammer 40,000 is the Mature IP)

The storyline and interaction between the races should be close to official fluff sources.

Mess it all up and THQ will soon be synonymous with Bankruptcy soon after it tanks hard.

Adeptus mechanicus ingame already, that's awsome.

Btw CEO of thq has already stated publicly that the overhead for this game is very low because of smaller dev crew. It's on the web look it up.
