Do you think that they can make a game that people will play just for crafting? If the PvP isn't the big draw, crafting in MO would be *meaningless*. Everything in MO runs around PvP. The game is centered around PvP and to say that it's not a PvP game is entertaining, to say the least. Housing, crafting, and well... that's about it, because there are no more real features in the game, all circle and supply into PvP.

    @slapshot:

Good.  Now can you suggest a system that can't be circumvented by having alts?

    Take away PvP from MO.

What will you craft? Nothing. There isn't anything TO craft other than things that supply PvP in some way. I mean, if you want to bring up MMOs like Second Life or the Sims Online, you can justify any type of gameplay basically. Not familiar with the game you listed, but my guess is that you can craft a LOT of stuff. Right now in MO, and for the foreseeable future... you will only craft PvP items.

Except weapons and armor for PvE...  It'd be a boring game, any game would be if you remove one of it's core components.

You're oversimplifying the game than criticizing it for being too simple....

Yeah... can an alt train skills for your main?

Also, if your alt is going to be your "vendor bot" you have to get items to him.. so either your red character has to come by the blue town with all your stuff, or your "vendor bot" has to go get the stuff and carry them back to the blue town.   Not really sure how the alts circumvents anything I posted...   If you really want your blue alt to carry all your possessions out of the red town.. well your taking a big chance.

The examples I gave were of the society in game.  I listed social penalties such as differing vendor prices, crafting station availability, training.. etc.   The point is to make lawless towns less hospitable (and thus less desireable to live out of).

I was asked to describe some examples of methods to penalize anti-social behavior via social means.  I have done so.  So you disagree with it.. think the concept is garbage.. and prefer some arbitary stat-loss.  Thats one reason why you currently subscribe to the game.  You like green.. I like blue.

Except one again you are ascribing something to me that I did not say nor even infer.  I started posting in this thread with the statement "I think it's simply a matter of playstyle preference."

I then state why I personally dislike the arbitrary stat-loss concept for PvP and why I think it's inconsistent with the sandbox concept. Likeing it isnt any more "stupid" than likeing the color green.  Neither is likeing blue by the way.

Currently mob corpses last 5 minutes and player corpses last 15.  Get the 2 characters to the same secluded spot, kill a rabbit, put the goods on the corpse and switch characters.  Or to keep things simple, just hand it off to a guild member.

All of the suggestions that you made work great, IF Mortal online only allowed you to have a single character.

One character is an option.. but again.. you could just buy multiple accounts ala Darkfall.

Again though.. I would find it to be a better penalty as I described than saying you lose X% of your stats for dying when your red.  Also... keep in mind the examples I listed are not all inclusive but rather just a few off the top of my head to demonstrate the type of social repurcushions possible. You and some others may like the stat loss and you are welcome to it.  Not ever going to be my cup of tea.

As asked previously, what do you think would be a better, yet similarly effective system or method?

Of course, everything here is personal preference and opinion.

I gave examples previously.  The oenalties for anti-social behavior should be social exclusion.   Make Red towns more undesireable.  Make their vendors charge more for items (due to the difficulty in getting supplies to them) while paying less when buying from players. Let the bankspace be even further restricted in a red town.   Make crafting stations fewer and spread out among different towns. There are tons of other possibilities here.   Then you also go and make Blue town living more preferable.  I mentioned something along the lines of a Center of Higher Learning... perhaps in Tindrem.  Perhaps this would be an area to unlock special skills (particularly magic).. perhaps it would just make learning skills easier. Perhaps there would be guild restrictions... let guilds have a presence in town of some sort (guild hall... house.. apartment..) but as a result no "red" could be on their roster.  Again.. lots of possibilities.

In my opinon, socially based repurcusions for anti-social behavior are infinately preferable to an arbitrary game mechanic of applying stat-loss to reds.   Your opinion may vary.  You may also like the color green while I prefer blue.

The current system makes it so that there is always a reason to possibly not want to be a red.  With your proposed system, where you do not lose stats as a red and exclusion from certain skills and abilities once you become a red, it would lead to the game being a grind to max skills.  After max skills gank newbs with no risks.  If you have max skills already access to your center of higher learning means nothing.  If you want to be a red make an all red guild, big deal there.  Worse prices seems like an ok trade for being able to make gold, collect items quicker by killing anyone you want.  If you want just make a blue alt, let your all red guild know the name.  Have him bring items for cheap and collect stuff to sell back to the blues.

You propose an easily circumvented system that in the end for a max skilled red no longer has any drawback to being a red.  Statloss gives a drawback no matter your skill level because if a group of blue "police" come hunting you that has a significant numbers advantage, there is no way someone can win them all.
