Speaking as someone who hasn't really followed this game (read: not payed attention to the hype) and who has recently become part of the game testing program.. I'm fairly impressed. Obviously I can't go into detail but suffice it to say the pictures/videos don't do it justice.
However, as it goes for EVERY video game, don't get caught up in hyperbole and come up with unrealistic expectations.
But we'll see what happens, still many months away from any type of release.
people like you piss me off, stop trying to brag before i just look up your email and report you for breaking nda
Lmao. I'm sorry you take that as bragging. I'm merely pointing it out to explain that there's more behind the scenes than the few videos/pictures available, but also not to give in to hyperbole.
Also, two things. The email account for this mmorpg.com account is not my usual email, and I haven't breached the NDA. You are allowed to say there is game testing going on, and you are allowed to say you're a member of it.

We still know relatively few "facts" about the game, and know next to nothing about how it actually plays... if you're already dissapointed, i put the fault on you, not the developer.
And when the rest of us are playing the game and having a blast, you can rest assured that you won't be missed.
I'm not disappointed in a game that's not released, yet. So far everything they've shown is everything they said the game would be. People tend to put their own unrealistic expectations on MMO's instead of actually listening to what the developers say the game is going to be in the first place.
I think ToR will do perfectly fine, it has a built in fan-base that most games don't have. Similarly to LOTRo, it will at least do "good" in subscriptions. It may not be totally innovative in the combat department, although we have no clue because we haven't played it. But it is extremely innovative in the fact that it brings story and world interactivity into the MMO. It put's the "RPG" in with the "MMO". It's setting a new standard, and a new expectation for future games in the genre, and for that alone I will support it. Not to mention the fact there's going to be multiple planets worth of content, and the potential for growth in every pillar of content so to speak.

Per the Game Testing Agreement, a user can state there is a Game Testing Program.
Per the Game Testing Agreement, when someone is selected for testing, they can disclose the fact that they are a member of the Game Testing Program.
Firstly I hope your having a good time testing and finding all the bugs. But latest on this is that Testing hasn't started for whatever reason so as you are allowed to disclose if there is a game testing program can you disclose if you are currently part of the game testing program. And not that you might at some future point be part of the game testing program.
Secondly and this isn't in anyway aimed at you but a response to the topic. Yes I am very disappointed with ToR at the moment. A couple of months ago I would have signed up for the life time subscription and a copy of each version of the game ot make sure I got all the goodies.
Perhaps luckily the resent events with delayed Friday Features turning out to be a comic and the disappointing showing at E3 and the constant feeling that the game is unsure what its ment to be outside of a single player story makes me think a few months into playing this its going to be bad. Its going to be WAR or STO bad, you will complete the story and find there is nothing else. The budget was so huge that unlike the other games the community relations team feels no commitment to the community and any calls of balance or bug fixes will remain unheard. Much like the pages and pages on the forum asking about space combat are left unanswered, even with the annoucements of space ships we still don't learn if they can go into space.
Questions about PvP and crafting are replied with comments like it will be like WoW or if WoW has it we will have it, questions about end game can't be answered cause after 5 or 6 years of development its still up in the air. The game is looking horribly like AoC where we all rush out to purchase our copies and then play through the part with VO and story and then find its light on these necessary features and the expodus starts. Only with AoC at least you have an innovotive combat system, amazing graphics and customisation and a mature feel and theme. Where as ToR is a more traditional auto target combat, cartoonish graphics and aimed at the younger casual gamer. I want this game to be great and I have loved Bioware games of the passed and a big Star Wars fan. But with what we have seen of late from the Community team I am starting to doubt that this is enough to keep the game playable. And it will be the next on the list of EA's games to cut funding and slowly watch die.

Agreed. I am not expecting much more than Kotor Online with multiplayer elements. If I experience something like the polish of Kotor and WoW then I'll be happy. Any more is a bonus.
I have my reservations about the game, but unlike others, I'm keeping them in check because we still don't know enough about the game to make an accurate assessment of it.
Well Korithian, I'd say if this goes the way of AoC I can't see bothering with MMOs anymore personally. However, on the bright side Bioware has yet to flop a game (that I know about anyway), so there's hope in that at least.

I hope it doesn't. But I hoped AoC would be amazing, I remember reading about the PvP merc system that never made it in. But even when I knew it wasn't coming in and Beta testing it I still pre-ordered cause I thought this game seems great. After a month I realised maybe not so much. Same with WAR, I believed the hype and even through the Beta experiences weren't that great and there weren't any forums for player feed back I ignored my instinct and purchased the game. Couple of months in and there is nothing to keep me there. And then being the idiot I am I go and try out STO and once again couple of days on the beta testing and I'm having fun. Purchase it and before my early access has even finished I'm thinking this game lacks depth.
And I am getting that sinking feeling with ToR, now in many ways this is completely unfair given how little of the game we have seen. We get a review here and a review there and maybe some video of very selected bits of the game. But in the same vein the community team who are ment to be selling the game seem to barely get things together. This weeks friday update was delayed and probably postponed till next week, last weeks update was delayed and turned out to be 4 pictures and a recap on what had been announced day one of E3. And this is what is ment to be selling the game to us, there have been people banned for discussing something covered in an NDA which they didn't know about cause they were just linking to a post on another forum.
If this is a sign of things to come I get the feeling a few months after launch (taking I have purchased the game) I will be back checking these forums looking for a new MMO feeling just as foolish as I did after paying for STO. And while its fair to have faith in Bioware, this is there first MMO and no longer that company. With EA buying them out and how badly Dragon Age Awakening turned out compaired the original I can't help feel the writting is on the wall. And its a lot of self-delusion on mybehalf willing the game to be great and its not. And then when players say this aint great get told well it was the players that hyped it up not Bioware and you wont be missed. Well you wont be missed until subs start falling and EA starts gutting the company like it did at Mythic. So I can't help wonder with the way things have turned out so far is it more polish than substance where the reason so little information is released and so little discussion on the boards is even noted by bioware is that so little is going to be offered. Too much time and money is spent on VO and Story and not enough on game play.
Yeah... How about all of you either, get into beta, steal the game and play it, or just wait for the game to come out, before saying how bad it will be?
Sounds good to me. It's funny reading all of you're conclusions based on 15min E3 playtime reviews... Ahaha

Fair enough.
Provided, of course, that all those who already think the game is going to be the Holy Grail of MMO's follow the same advice until they too have some actual gameplay experience on which to base their opinions.

The thing is, I've yet to see ANYONE who thinks SWTOR will be the Holy Grail of MMO's. There's this myth going about some how some people are blind to the possibility that it could flop, but so far on these forums, I've yet to see one person say that they truely believe that this game is guaranteed to be the saviour of all MMO's.

Exactly. Least we arent calling it the "Filet Mignon of mmos" /pokes funcom
MMO's don't need saving. SWTOR isn't out to change or make the genre better. EA is putting a lot of money into this game, and they know what people want. So does Bioware.
And no everyong claiming the game will be bad is based off their demo time's at E3. But all the reviews and exclusive's before E3, everyone loved it. And the mass amount of people at E3 loved it, it was the busiest booth this year.
SWTOR is no savior? What a joke.
The MMO genre make's bank as it is, people will always play it. Genre's don't die, so they don't need saving.
Aion had a lot of hype, it was "going to change things". I told everyone it would suck, I was the only one, and look at it now. Sucking...
WoW was put down when it dropped. By well everyone.... And look at it.
So really it can go either way. But TOR will launch and be around for a long time... It has a solid IP and a huge growing fanbase already. It's not going anywhere becuase people on one site (this one) don't like it.
If this is a sign of things to come I get the feeling a few months after launch (taking I have purchased the game) I will be back checking these forums looking for a new MMO feeling just as foolish as I did after paying for STO. I don't know.
I have downgraded my opinion of Activision Blizzard based upon their output and decisions of the last few years, before I thought they were absolutely awesome. But I haven't seen those signs telling Bioware is on a downward slope... yet.
I thought ME2 was an improvement upon ME, also Dragon Age itself was a good, solid game.
So no, too early to tell the signs. For Blizzard to me it was also not 1 or 2 things, but a chain of incidents over a large period that made me change my view of them.

What about people like me, who think it's still far too early to predict how the game will be until at least we've played the beta and who don't think it's the Holy Grail or the bane or a major fail to MMO gamers as so many people on these forums do?
Surely there must be more moderate people around even on these forums than people who think in extremes, knowing so sure the game will be the Savior of MMO's (not seen many ppl thinking that) or an utter failure (a LOT of people here convinced of that)?
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Of course there are lots of us like you, who believe that it's too soon to speculate on how the game will turn out. My comments weren't addressed to those people. It was a response to the call for trolls not to knock the game before they have tried it, and suggested simply that such a call was fair provided it applied equally to the fanbois who wet themselves over the game before they have tried it.
I happen to suspect that it will be a reasonably decent game, neither as good as some anticipate nor as bad as some anticipate. It has been terribly over-hyped by both developers and players alike, not to mention the news and fan sites, and I doubt it will live up to the greatest expectations. I also doubt, however, that it will bomb. Like most new MMO's I suspect it will sell massively, lose a lot of players early on, and settle down over time at a decent but not exceptional level of subscribers. Much will depend not on the game per se but on the precise business model both initially and thereafter.
Hello, I've just watched the newest videos where you see group play (Smuggler and Trooper, Sith Warrior and Sith Inquiz, Bounty Hunter and Imperial Agent) and I feel disappointed with this game now becauser all the main characters you play as all have British accents which is strange (I know I'm British myself but I would have thought there would be more American accents for this game) and I have to admit the character design is really bad.
You would have thought the Twi'lek Smuggler would have a different model design but instead she looks like they have just altered the female Human design and made her green with head tails. And the dialogue, it's terrible, I was really expecting better but I think I'll pass on this game.
So who else here feels disappointed with the game?
Damn so you are dissapointed before the game is even release. Game looks great , is being given the full Bioware treatment so I can't be happier. Dissapointed, amn go give yourself an ulcer why don't you this is a game.
Lets see how it plays and then maybe we can answer the question above. Bioware have doen everything in nothing but a professional manner !!! (It must hurt right)

Well I guess I'm just going to throw my great and powerful IMHO here just as well.
Currently I'm not all that disappointed with what I saw so far.
people tend to use that universal argument term such as "WoW clone". Seriously WoW is just mainstreamed and refind EQ1.
I'm tottaly fine with standart char. progression, and lvl-up system. It was there for ages, in many games, not only mmo, and it proven to be fun and addictive because of an obsuce sence of accomplishment.
I can live with the current combat system. Granted I was a little bit pissed of when I saw that a trooper can melee a sith ( padawan or not - this is just retareded, because like 30 seconds later they show those amazing force powers blowing rocks etc >_> ). And as far as I can understand that trend ( trooper being more "tought" then a sith lord / jedi knight) is a little bit dissapointing.
I was dissapointed that you can start your jedi/sith class right away, which will mean at least in the first couple of months we will see a swarm of those guys, no matter what the devs are saying, and trying to push a smugler or a tooper to be an amazing class -> majority will go for jedi/sith right away.
The next thing I'm not liking so far is the fact that a jedi counselor is a healer, yeah, great, you can heal, ok... I really, and I mean I REALLY hope that they are just healers, but also like a sorc. class or somthing. reason being : a jedi knight is a sword master, while Counselor would logically train in the ways of the force more, and thus have some of the more powerfull offensive cap. which are purly force based, and do healing as well. Otherwise I just can't imagine and inquisitor being a heal bot.
but there are two redeeming factors that cross everything else for me. Two things that an MMO truly lacks ( imho).
1. A storyline. Ok, well I know, all mmo's out there have some sort of a story line, but usully it ends up being a 238 page long letter. Here on the other hand, thanks to voice dialog system ( a BIG yey for me) I feel like the player will be more engaged in the story and lore, and thus ultimatly have a deeper and more plesent experience with the game.
2.the very fact that it is ski-fi based mmo, not another "eLveS are in ZE Voods" type mmo. Serisouly there arn't any ski-fi triple A class mmo's out there right now at all. Aside from EVE, but EVE is a uniqe game, that shouldn't be even compared to anything from mainstream. But aside from EVE, there isn't a singe one. SW: Galaxies..which SOE decided to rape a bit, and then some more, and turn it into something abysmal. Tabula Rasa... which closed down. And that's it. And it will be def. refreshing to see wookies instead of elves. and old anarchy online
I have my hopes in Bioware. They arn't reinventing the wheel all over again. but I think they're going to bring some logical improvments to the concept that was polished by WoW to make it even better.
P.S. Those were random thoughts , and I need to get some sleep.
All I can say so far is that its Star Wars, its made by Bioware (I like Bioware games and their ingame dialogues). This alone probably will make me at least try it.
As for what we've seen so far. Flashy combat is not something I care much about. While fun to see at first, I tend to ignore it after a while and just go with the story or focus on the challenge instead. I really do like the multiplayer dialogue and also the class based storylines for which you can invite your friends to join you. Bioware games always make me care about the story and this is something which I rarely care about in MMO's so far. Guild Wars and Fallen Earth are the exceptions so far.
My concerns:
Character customisation for example. While the BH armour they showed looks awesome, its just a few sets. And there are many players. I wonder if it will make all BH look like clones of each other;) Even if it lets you customise it with tidbits like in Warhammer Online.
I also have to see how open the open world will be. I like the KOTOR games, but for an MMO I would like to see much larger maps. And hopefully organic feeling maps. I hate world areas that clearly show a lvl progression. Some examples of world areas I dont like : EQII maps (old style mob placement with few exits to other areas) , LOTRO maps (nice views, but mob placement lacks imagination and immersion).
I even like GW's instanced maps more then the above 2. Especially Nightfall and Eye of the North areas. Every mob there looks as if it belongs there. Vanguard world also looks awesome.
It's not even out yet. I refuse to comment on the quality of the game until I actually play it. I hope they have some sort of trial when the game comes out, though.
I'm a little disappointed after receiving today's e-mail and watching the group combat. I thought they said they were getting rid of the Holy Trinity in this game or did I mis-read something?
Guess I'll still be waiting for an MMO that gets rid of that stupid system. Tank, Heal, DPS. Great
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
::sniffles:: I am not allowed to discuss my issues with the game because I have been labeled a hater of it. ::sigh:: On these boards we're not allowed to voice our concerns and criticisms - unless you wish to be labeled a hater.
People generally get labelled haters because they are just that. Everyone is allowed an opinion some people are just make themselves look incredibly stupid.
Recently a lot of the main people who have been going over the top hate wise here seem to have dissapeared. It is hard to argue against a game and IP that looks so good I guess and a developer that has been nothing but professional.

They have you can have a group with no main healer charachter, this is not the only video out there. LOts of variations and options available group wise including the support charachters everyone has.
Taking one example and being dissapointed is very narrow minded, but then i guess some people are not interested in context, just any opportunity to nit pick for no good reason.

Why is it a stupid system? And yes I think you missed or misunderstood something.
What would you replace the trinity with? It works, it supports grouping, etc.

To be honest, I'm surprised that companies haven't begun offering a "Very Limited Trial" at launch (say 2 days worth). That would also address issues with players trying to do "chargebacks" on MMOs when they find that the game aint for them. And the limitation on the trial would mean that people couldn't burn through the games content and not pay.

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release].

Vanguard world also looks awesome.
can't be dissappointed for something I had little expectations to begin with.
as soon as I figure out it was class based, xp based, and instance based I lost interest.
just another mmo I'll try for 6 months then grow tired of and quit
I refuse to comment on the quality of the game until I actually play it.
I hope they have some sort of trial when the game comes out, though.
I'm a little disappointed after receiving today's e-mail and watching the group combat. I thought they said they were getting rid of the Holy Trinity in this game or did I mis-read something?
Guess I'll still be waiting for an MMO that gets rid of that stupid system. Tank, Heal, DPS. Great
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
