This is simple. No women on the internet. People are weird. For example

Typical male character in games. Super omega death guy knight thing(crap).

Other typical male character. Super hot sexy cool lots of friend girl thing(slut).

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

Gay  would be playing a male toon, and hitting on other male toons, so you could see some male on male action.

Unless you play a female toon, and you hit on other female toons. Then that would be "gay". As in two of the same sex having sex.

     Absolutely brilliant post. :)

And yes, I usually play female toons. If I'm going to spend countless hours on a character, I prefer a female butt on my screen...

Yeah, because you spend most of your time looking at the character's butt. Which is still made of light out of pixels, so it's not exactly a good kind of butt to look at.

I don't buy that "argument" because it's still defensive in the "Oh man, people are gonna judge me" kind of line. You know, saying "I like playing female characters" is sufficient on its own. It doesn't go into stupid statements of looking at a character's sexual features all the time while you play, because it's pretty obvious people don't do that unless they're perverts. So either don't be afraid of saying things or come up with a truly valid reason.

Do you like let them down easy and tell them you have a boy friend? Or do you tell them you got a wang?

I never get hit on :(

How is it defensive, it is stating a fact.  Ever seen a young mans bedroom.  Does he put up posters of sexy men?  No, his room is covered with pictures of attractive women.  Men by nature are visual creatures.  If the man is playing the game being disasscoiated from his character (i.e. not roleplaying) or does not see the character as an extension of himself.  Then it makes perfect sense that he chose to play a character that is visually stimulating to him.

Most men who play male toons do so as an extension of themselves.  Those who play female toons play them as objects to be admired.  But then men have been objectifying women for years so what's the surprise.

so to take it as a defensive argument may be more of your perception of it than the man who states it as a fact.

A game is ment to be fun, ergo relieve the boredom of life. Hence why play something that resembles your own life. So some people play the opposite sex character to themselves. And I'd expect you would find there is a simliar percentage of women playing male toons as there are men playing female toons. Its just easier to spot a man playing a female toon. They tend to have larger assets and dress like a tramp ;)

It can go either way for me, depending on my whims when I start out.  That being said, I've rolled female toons for MMORPGs simply because of this:  If I'm going to sit in front of a screen for some long a** time, I'd rather it be something nice to look at than some dude's a** swinging in front of my face.

Rather it be something sweet than swarthyimage

We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Most people would roll (at first) a char the same sex as theirs without even thinking but I don't think that guys roll more the opposite sex than females do. I don't even see why it has to be a clear reason for the sex of the character someone chooses. I don't think a lot of people give that much thought to it. It just feels better for a specific race, class or the character they want to portrey.

If I want a support class or leader type class I may want it to look wise so I make an elder man. If I want a sorcerer I'd maybe chose a strong beautiful witch. I just don't understand why some people would be upset that an avatar isn't the same sex as the person in RW; it makes no sense to me and it just seem that those people are a bit narrow minded.

Why would someone have to chose the same sex anyway; not everyone sees their toon as a part of themselves. It would be funny if a male writer will just have male characters in his story coz it would be insane to think he can actually create a female one or vice versa.

Thank you for explaining for me Gom. :)

What I wonder is, why do so many guys play enourmous muscle beefcakes in games? If I am to be passed judgement on for playing nice looking female characters, I will return the favor and ask why your in-game character is not a more realistic reflection of yourself? Playing such characters does seem to be an overcompensation for lacking physical stature in real life and supressed homosexual tendencies.

Or could it be that we just pick characters without there being deep psychological reasons behind it?

Well I figure it this way, if I'm going to be playing with dolls it might as well be female ones...

I'm kidding, we are playing with dolls ultimately but it's not the reason to play with females ones only...

I will sometimes do male then female and repeat as I try out different classes until I find one I like. But as it has been said many times already here, if I'm going to be staring at a toon for hours I prefer that toon to be female.

I think it ultimately comes down to the fact that most guys perform better at said MMO when they have a semi from staring at said female toon.

I'd play male toons if they looked sexier.  What's sexier?  IMO a guy thats lean, pretty faced, nice haircut and young.  I guess I am one of those girls that got "stuck" in the teen idol stage.  I have never liked guys that looked too macho (or whatever you call it now).  The male characters in Lineage, FFX series or AION are pretty hot, too bad I hated those games.   All my characters would be male with maybe a few females playing "my extension of self" avatar roles.   If WOW had an option on Alliance side for cute young male avatars I would play it.  Horde does however with Blood elves ::Swoon:: they are cute.

For me  I play a MMORPG.. to play with friends, have a good time, and play a "Game". I never looked at playing MMORPG's, as a RP stand point, and couldn't give a damn about making myself in a game. I just never got into that kind of thing, and it's not my cup of tea.

As of right now I'm playing WoW, and my main is a female Draenei Hunter. I simply made her, because she just look's more cool, then the male Draenei (Who to me look pretty craptasic). If my friend's were playing Horde, i would easily would've been a male Tauren or Troll Hunter... cause i think they look bad ass... espcially for Hunters.

For me really, it depend's on how the character model's look, and who look's more cool for a certain role. All the year's of playing video games, that range from playing male or female lead's in em, I could give a rat's ass.. what people think, if i decide to play a female for one of my toon's in a MMO, which at the end of the day.. is still only just a game.
