You know that's not true, unless of course you are hearing it second hand.
Wait until they have the full influx at launch. Very few MMOs have a smooth launch. So if FF XIV does suffer, which is likely, its simply down to how quick SE can fix any issues.
your right but i doubt it will be as bad as some of the recent releases
You know most releases recently have been horrible and rushed Im counting on this one being the same so im not disappointed like I have been with the past few games....
YEs last night's beta was amazing for me. No issues and it ran on my 4 yr dual core w/ very little lag. I was afraid to log off but I actually did log off a few times to make different characters and I got back on w/o delay. I also used WASD + mouse w/o issues. Oddly enough I tried the FFXI controls and it was worse because I couldn't use the arrow keys to adjust the camera? Maybe it was just me and I don't know if I had to set it up for it to work. Anyway the mouse worked just fine for me.
Funny thing is, that in Alpha you could control the character like in XI, but in Beta you can't- and to top it off, they even posted a note in the "known issues" post that "the keyboard controls suck right now, we are aware" so I wonder what happened there lol
Using LOL is like saying "my argument sucks but I still want to disagree".
I played FFXI for a couple years, and have since played many other MMOs. Keyboard+mouse is much more efficient and accurate. Having to scroll through menus and keyboard turn just seems like a chore to me these days. If SE is looking to target a larger audience they already have, they need to add proper keyboard+mouse controls. Most PC gamers just won't put up with all keyboard controls. From what I understand the beta forums are littered with complaints due the lack of this. However, if they are fine with the niche crowde they have, they better hope there is a large turnover from FFXI and other FF fans. I don't see a large number of console FF players getting into FF 14, it didn't happen with 11.
My feeling is they are going to lose a lot of intial PC users due to this, they would be better waiting until the Ps3/PC version can be launched at the same time. And if they are dead set on the controls as they are now THEY NEED TO SHIP THE GAME WITH A GAME PAD. If they at least do this I think they will have a much better retention rate of PC users used to keyboard+mouse. They will probably use the game pad right off the bat instead of messing around with the controls trying to play it like all their other PC games and getting frustrated because of how things work so differently.
I'm not sure if you guys are aware but in FFXI, you could use WASD+mouse and keyboard controls. I had no problem using either one and I didn't have to change anything on the settings.
I find it strange that a lot of you are complaining that SE won't support either option when in reality they have supported both in the past plus being able to use a controller or a game pad.
Expecting a "flawless" release is rather unrealistic expectations if you ask me, and is only setting yourself up for disappointment.
Even Aion which had a year or so out in Korea had a few issues when it came out for NA.
That said, I think SE will do everything they can to get the game stabilized and moving forward once it's out, but I wouldn't expect the game to be working perfectly right off the bat.
well as long as they dont screw up on selling more collectors editions then they own or watever then it wont be so overcrowded and madness and queues filling up as for smooth maybe but no mmo has ever been that smooth game breaking or bleh idk everyone has their own deifinition because we got whinners or all sorts lol so regardless people will still complain something isnt good while others wont care lol ill just be happy the games out and i can play! idc if theirs a tonberry waiting at the login screen trying to stop me from loggin in !

Mouse+Keyboard controls in FFXI were beyond pathetic. It was there, doesn't mean it was practical to use.
I'm trying to remain optomistic but that little voice inside me always tells me otherwise. My synical side tells me that they're shipping in 2 months no matter what because they know they're gonna get the XI vets to commit and play no matter what. I'm sure they realize that a 6 month head start on their competition is also wise. Where the game is after those 6 months will be more important.
Geez reading these posts is more painful than the launch will be though lol. Judging a game on E3 demos which were off of a different build than the beta is a little ignorant. Plus, you have to realize in the options they will have button mapping and macros which eliminates the need for a gamepad.

I think it will be a smoothe as silk launch for Square. A lot of the beta is simply server load stress testing. I guess it possible that some further optimisation may occur with the servers at headstart..a lot depends on pre order and launch day sales with regards how many servers at launch I think, and if the game sells out I guess we may be standing in queues.
Personally I'd like for SE to keep the game in Beta a few more months. We all been waiting years for the game a few more months wont hurt. But then again if something happens like what happened on Friday then the game could very well be ready in Sept.

Well, it much looks like this weeks issues were fixed by throwing more money at the servers.
I'd assume they'll do the same come launch, especially when there's subscription money at stake.
But obviously they won't spend any more than necessary... so laggy launch is more than likely lol

How you mess something up as standard as keyboard controls is rather lol

Well, XI's PS2 version came with a HDD- maybe this time the pc version will come with a pad!

Delayed or tanked like every mmo that came out after WoW.

I'm sorry, Final Fantasy 14, Imma let you finish, but Starcraft 2 will have the best mmo launch of 2010.
Actually, Mortal Online's launch was quite painless and smooth.
I don't think XIV can compete with that.

I used keyboard on XI and really liked it too. If I could just keep using the same controls I would have no complaint. :
i think it be ok! FFXI was good

I guess the game is 80% ready right now. 10% a month... is quite the crunch!
I lol'ed hard ; D thanks haha.
