I will say the trailer for the game was breath-takingly awesome.  If there's one thing I always felt Blizzard did well it was cinematic cutscenes and I may end up buying it at some point just to watch them.

I don't think it is a game to purchase at launch, but rather wait for retail price cut. I think you make a good point RTS resource gathering games seem a bit thing of the past.

played beta and hated it. EVerything is about void rays and  I played zerg 50 games +.  Custom games isnt enough to make me get it.

On the contrary, RTS games of the last 5 years have all been about capturing nodes, removing
educing base building, focusing on small squads and removal of resources - games such as Company of Heroes, DoW2, Supcom, CnC4.

If anything SC2 is a breath of fresh air.

this right here is the reason sc2 wont have 12 million people playing like world of warcraft..  So many people just can not handle a competative game.  Sure everyone can win and love it but not everyone can take the losses necessary to get good and even then with the system blizzard has regardless of your skill level you will end up going almost 50% win ratio.

This is a highly competative game with a big skill gap between newb and pro there are so many newbs who are afraid to try and fail at a game they arent instantly good at.

It is not for everyone but for people who love competative strategy games I believe sc2 will rock your world it is phenonimal and I couldnt be more excited for monday night midnight launch

On a side note to the guy I quoted void rays are not Op by any means you just need good recon and good reaction if I knew what race you were playing I could list you the counters but generaly the counter to anything is knowing its coming and reacting correctly.  Sure if you dont scout you make bunch of roaches or zealots and he comes out with void rays ya you are gonna lose but if you scouted you probaly could of just rushed him out if he went to fast to air or if it was mid / late air you just need the right counter.

To play starcraft at a top level means you need to master several elements of the game this is a game where 2 months in you would curb stomp yourself if playing yourself in the past was possible :P

     ^^ what he said.

VR's where a bit OP at the start with their high armour and 3 beam charge up but now a queen can take down a VR, a handfull of stimmed marines or 2 stalkers.  But as explained scouting the enemy, anticipating the units he will produced based on his tech and just being prepared is all part of the fun.

The league system has me leaning towards buying it.   I'm generally a crappy RTS player (mostly play MMOs) and don't want to get steamrolled every match.  So I know I would enjoy being in my amatuer league till I get better.  image

I can verify that the league system works for newbs not from my personal experience but my good irl newb friends :P

he got beta with 0 RTS experience placed right in the bottom leauge copper played about 30-40 games at copper level started to get little better got moved into bronze 20 more games or so into silver and eventualy over course of beta he made his way into gold.  Phase 1 ends

Phase 2 starts that same newb buddy who has learned a lot from beta places right into gold where he made it before.

The system really does work regardless of your skill level you will face similiar skilled players and almost everyone will have a 50% record.

On a side note I would like to mention that the very hard AI is a great match for most players it is probaly a platnium level player good build strats with a rush transititons into long game its quite a good opponent and a good way to train other races or just train your race if your newer without having wins / losses

I do not like RTS games. I will not buy the game no matter how good the reviews are.

Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

    some good info.  Thanks.

Seems to me SC2 is a great game to play with guild-mates for the learning curve.  In that manner one can avoid the frustration that comes from often playing strangers and learn how to compete with opponents that are also more interested in learning the game with you than owning you.  Owning can come after -)

A practice buddy just as a guild mate is so good to have in an RTS.  You can test strategies, timings and builds. Feed up of getting 6 pooled from a zerg, then get your practice buddy to 6 pool you while you see how best to defend it.  It all goes into making the game fun and making you a better player.

To many people approch SC2 and other RTS lose a few games on mutliplayer and declair it unbalanced and only for the pros.

  • Arctic2006Arctic2006 Member Posts: 31

Don't mind RTS's but never played SC and haven't looked into SC 2 what so ever. Seen some stuff from SC and looked awful so never considered either one of them.

  • TehJackalTehJackal Member Posts: 98

Nope not me... Never been much of a fan for the whole RTS scene. I do think I have the original Starcraft somewhere but I dont even know if I played it more than once... I think I got it to watch a online friend of mine in the past that was in the top 5 US players at the time.

I liked the Warcraft RTS games because I enjoy the Warcraft lore... I just dont like games where I dont really get to do much more than make this this and this and then be like go do that that and that... I like to be part of the action XD

By the true definition of LAN, you won't be. Not that now, in the age of accessible internet connections, releasing a LAN incapable game is doom and gloom, but for a product that was so heavily played, and kept alive, for years based on this function alone, it seems a miscommunication or oversight not to have it avaiable in SC 2. I realize that they're trying to force users into creating battle.net accounts, but that's not a good enough reason to strip functionality.

I would also like to comment on the people talking about training partners and what not which is a great idea.

If you guys checked out phase 2 blizzard released all of its difficulties of AI's I play for the online player vs player fight to the death in games never the computer stuff but honestly blizz did an incredible job with there AI and the achievments.

I probally spent more time in phase 2 working on achieves such as 1vs4 very hard AI  8 man insane FFA  4v4 with 3 insane allies  2v1 insane all kinds of quite difficult and fun achieves I was surprised how much I enjoyed it.

My point which i clearly havent made yet is that the VERY HARD Ai setting is a great training partner as well.  I would rate the very hard Ai at about high level platinum (1 below diamond top leauge)  It has great starting builds it will macro and rush you it transistions into late game tech / expansions it will give you a decent match.  This is a great way to test new builds try races you arent as good with or what not all record free if people are worried about having a bad record while they learn and what not.

Insane AI is the very hard AI but with an economic boost there drones probaly bring in 2 or 3 times the normal minerals just to make it more difficult / fun but the very hard AI is not a cheater just quite good.

I'll get it cause i am a blizzard fan, but im not big into RTS titles ... I played the origional warcraft series and starcraft but I wasn't particularly good at them, so I didn't play them very extensively.

I've been drinking beer since 9 am, worn a cowboy hat, smoked about 15 cigars, coughed up blood once or twice (possibly related to the cigars), and driven around in a pickup truck with a massive Confederate flag screaming "Remember Tarsonis!"

Yesterday I prepared in proper Zerg fashion by participating in flash mobs and trying to lay eggs in people's brains.
