It was quite difficult paying absolute attention : Bad quality video and all.

Also, I read the first 5 pages of the thread. For some reason, that's all the site said there were : 5 pages, not 10.

    And now 11... damn.

MMO's played: Ragnarok Online (For years), WoW (for a few weeks only), Guild Wars, Lineage 2, Eve, Allods, Shattered Galaxy, 9 Dragons, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Star Trek Online (Got someone ELSE to pay for it), Champions Online (Someone else paid), Dofus, Dragonica, LOTRO, DDO and more... A LOT more. I've played good AND bad. The bad didn't last long. :P

I was thinking the same thing.  I dont think ANet shouldve made a manifesto video. And Im not saying that because I think the game is bad.  Im actually looking forward to trying it out.  But that video could plague them through the rest of the development cycle.  It could become an example of what not to do as far as overpromising and underdelivering.  And no im not "basing this on 5 min of crappy shaky pre-hyper-alpha game footage".  Im basing this on the risks involved with hype and marketing.

I also expect that ppl will keep mentioning this video when talking about GW2. Cam coverage like this cant do a game justice. The glare on the screen made the world seem way too dark, with just the bright effects of skills and selecting of targets jump out. It looked very odd because of that.

hopefully thid video did not put prople off enough to not  watch the others. it looks great to me still

Aha. So it does. Geez. I've never noticed until now. Funny how the little things often slip by.

Ok let me try to clear somethings up for all of that make you confused or concerned.... first off atleast read the rest of the forum before posting k?

    1. This is not an offical video, the dev. who was playing was using dev mode (God mode, hax ect.) and he was only practicing for tomorrow's show to try and get a feel for presenting the demo. So that means the footage shown (in its crappy condition) was probably not what they were really going to show the actual crowd. Also from reading other threads supposibly at the end of the video the speaked said they would be receiving the offical demos soon.

    2. This is only internal beta, if you don't like it don't nerd rage politely send an email to Anet and explain what you dislike about it, you might even see some nice changes to the game at PAX (example some people dislike the UI).THIS GAME CAN BECOME BETTER so don't give up on it after this crappy video or even when they release an offical video.

    3. The part of the video that looks like a quest... really it isn't because the supposed quest giver actually runs out from behind the tent which you can see his head while he is walking up there and then starts to speak he nvr had to click on him to get this supposed quest.

    4. The Dev. was also invisible to the mobs so no wonder y they didn't attack him... (if you saw the mobs react to the NPC's they would have reacted the same way to him if he was visible to them). Also when he attacked the harpies he said o wait im still invisible so he turns it off and he automatically get attacked a good deal reducing his hp to about 2/3 or so.

    5. The Dev. harldy desplayed his skills in this video so of course it didn't look like that good of combat that you would think.

hmmm well i can't think of anything else to add at the moment lets just wait it out and either view this a very small glimpse to what this game will be like or something just for you to try and see if you actually like later when they release a better quality and better filled video. O and i would just like to say im not a fan boy i haven't even played GW 1, im just really interested in this game because of what they are doing for the MMO genre, and they seem to be follow what they are trying to say they are going to do for this game. (somethings might not be as they said or you would like, but does that mean its still not better than some games?)

    ~peace :D

Good post Nate. Also will add that the presenter also mentioned that the enemy AI of the harpy area wasn't in yet and the demo that he said would be arriving soon had the AI. That's why you saw the harpies just standing there.

ooo yeah that was something i forgot and thanks. Even from this small video I know for sure this will be a good game its better than WoW in my opion and no SUB, so people can't expect it to be 100% what they want becuase some people might like what you dislike. (they can't please everybody you know). Now that I think about it, I think they shouldn't have told us all of this stuff they were going to add but wait until they could show it to us so that way we could see the change and not expect more than what they show. Like most people are doing, they are taking their words and making it seem like they lied to us. Did they ever say there were never going to be quests? no they didn't the just said they were trying to make it less quest like and more event like, so of course somethings might seem more on the quest side in beta because they never officially made that quest/event more on the event side.

This video was filmed during a technical rehearsal. It was not a stage rehearsal of the demo (you might have heard at one point in the video that Martin (the speaker) was not presenting based on the demo script). As many people have noted, much of what you see is not representative of actual game play because developer commands were used to make the controlled character invisible.

A post over on GW2G by Regina Buenoabra on what we are seeing.

Dev using dev hacks, technical run down to make sure its all working.

  • TalinTalin Member UncommonPosts: 923

Besides seeing a glimpse at the engine, UI, and art in-game, I don't see much that changes my opinion one way or the other. I'm still interested in seeing a better defined video of gameplay, and certainly a higher quality one.

you would think that they would make such sessions camless. to keep such a thing from happening

You're right it does LOOK to have better graphics than WoW. And since it doesn't PLAY like WoW. .. GW2 appreciates the compliment. :)

    Nonsense.

A post by Martin (the ArenaNet CM and presenter of the video) about this circulated video from GW2Guru.

Yes, because today is when the show starts.

    Couple of thinks from me:

What that guy filmed is what is called dress rehearsal. It is done to make sure that the audio and video setup is working as it should be. heck, i was not even working along a script.

About unresponsive AI: We were using cheat commands and were invisible, I repeat - we were invisible (and also immortal if i remember) . So the monsterss did not see us at all.

There are no quests: Some events are hidden and can be triggered by players. Sometimes it is an object that it is lying around, sometimes it is walking up to a guy and chatting with him.

So - starting from today, you should see more "real" footage, without devloper magic.

And thanks for caring that I get some breakfast - i am off to the show now, later!

Exactly what looked like WoW in that video? Or maybe you are one of those types where everything looks like WoW to you. Or perhaps you just can't think of anything else to say so you fall back on that line.

  • haibanehaibane Member Posts: 178

Erm, you guys consider this amazing ? Oo

Mobs AI was totally screwed, there's like one guy doing all the damage while the others fight for two hours the same mob without killing it.

The picture quality's pretty bad so can't really say about the graphics, just the animations are so-so (and probably uncomplete); one thing's for sure i'm not going to play the lame legged lizzie ^^.

All this looks definitely like a demo video with a preset behaviour for mobs, because rezzing a dude with a mob standing right on your face who just stares at you without doing anything can't be normal :p

All this vid tells me is that GW2 ain't ready yet, which is normal considering they got 6 months+ to release it. Just amazed at the fanbois here who'd tell u it's the new world wonder based on that vid. I mean if you consider that top notch, then Tera's vid at the same convention is godlike...

    You're a Hardcore Survivor!

You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

Yep, he did it 2 times .... and I did not see any particular travel npc or whatever.

First time when he came out the dungeon ... transport.

Then he walked a while and did it again.

Just opens map, points ... and transport.

Or did I miss something? (Could be, just asking)

Its map travel because at first he travelled to a way point, the second time... I'm not sure what he did....

    This is not a game.

  • djazzydjazzy Member Posts: 3,578

Not sure about the 2nd time but the first transport was definitely Map Travel, he had to pay a fee for it if you can recall. Map Travel was a defining feature in GW as well. In GW you had to discover the outpost first though, I assume it is the same in GW2 where you first have to explore and discover the area before using map travel to there.
