    Oh! Checked the website.

It is due in Quarter 4 2011. so expect it to slip to 2012...so that timeframe will be about right. About 2 years.

I'm actually also more interested in a Co-Op experience with Singleplayer along the lines of Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2.

If it also has full featured toolset...then this is really just Neverwinter Nights 1 or 2, with the exception probably being you need to be connected online all the time.

    Don't really want another  MMORPG.

There is nothing on the horizon like NWN 1 or 2 at all.

Dragon Age has no multiplayer, Two Worlds 2 (if it's good) has no editor and a totally separate Co-Op campaign.

Yeah I'm sure it won't be an MMO, but I bet it will have subscription+CS and severely lacking content =)

You do realize Ed Greenwood is the one that created FR right? Salvatore only wrote in the realms, Ed created it.

As to the moaning about Cryptic, /yawn. If you guys don't like them don't buy it. Jumping on the I hate Cryptic bandwagon before the game is even in beta just makes you look dumb.

Keeping the DM tools in this game is definitely required. Simply slapping MMO on the thing wouldn't work.

I never said Salvatore created FR, but if you READ the press blurb they are basing it off one of his FR books. Reading comprehension FTW

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I wonder if they're going to charge a subscription fee, because at least this time they're admitting it's not a MMO they're making.

Expecting a full scale item shop anyway.

That said, 5 classes?  Really?  And only Heroic (1-10) at start?  Just...yeah...at least they're setting their sights realistically, but sheesh...Fighter, Cleric, Ranger, Wizard, and Rogue...though these classes aren't bad, they're not the most impossibly awesome classes either, like the Avenger...

If this turns into a microtransaction game, it'd make it worse, in my opinion, too...so many ways to do it wrong, I hope Cryptic doesn't screw it up, but I'm not being hopeful.  I've been waiting for a 4E game, don't let me down on what looks like the first one, Cryptic!

As far as i remember, the Avenger was only for 4E.

I hope they have the foresight to see that they should base it on 3/3.5, not 4.

why, why did it have to be cryptic....

"Players connect to a server and are 'encouraged to play cooperatively'. Building tools will also be released as in previous games."

    HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

ya, id like to see them try!  hold on, i can see it now, limited amount of buildings in a instance arena zone where you have to pay C-store money to not only play in them, but to even add the damn zone in period.

CEP tools rape's anything cryptic even fathoms in their mind they call building tools. their first 2 games already showed proof of their business and development model. Ill go so far as to say it now without even seen abit of content.

yea, thats right against all form of judgement of wait and see, cryptic aint got the right tools to handle this game.

It is based on 4E, they've already confirmed that.

I would expect it to be free with a shop. Probably buy new classes and content packs, or pay to have your own content hosted online. Will be interesting to see how they make the UGC work.

  • Silverthorn8Silverthorn8 Member UncommonPosts: 510

Two things, one this is cryptic....game will likely suck and two, 4E d&d is streamlined to the nth degree (probably excellent for a console game).

    Not interested!

    Yet another disappointment.

I guess what I'm trying to say is.  If you hope they will radically change gameplay to make it what you want an MMO to be.  Look somewhere else.  NWN has a following, and we like the gameplay the way it is.

    Also /first

More importantly is does anyone really expect a company that has been unable to WOW anyone with the results of there past work to succeed in ushering a new type of gaming experience?  It's so quirky I think there is a small possibility it would work (less than the chance of me winning the powerball) but a chance anyway because they certainly make standard mmo's for crap.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

In my view it should be a regular 50 dollar game purchase, and then you purchase additional Expansion Packs.

You can also have player content in a central database for mods etc.

A monthly fee just wouldn't work in my view...although perhaps the addition of a monthly fee is the only reason to add MMORPG to the game.

Good ol' times when games didn't want to be MMOs they'd be happy enough with box sales... well, SC2 is new though.

Might give a chance if they don't pull a Cryptic on the revenue model of a CORPG.

Atari are morons for one thing for ripping off Turbine and forcing them to take them to court for that lawsuit issue and now they are basically ripping them off again. Instead of Ebberon city, it's Neverwinter city with the same concept as DDO. Cryptic will ruin the NWN IP just like they did the past 3 IP's, with or without Bill Roper.

    Hm.

I withhold any judgement until I see or hear more. This is merely an annoucement. Nothing to see.

I thought we were still slagging off RTW and SWToR? Did we change? I didn't get the memo!

    There is NO miracle patch.

95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.

    Hope is not a stategy.

  • CorthalaCorthala Member UncommonPosts: 283

No, No and no!!!!! there goes a potential good mmo. They will probably change so much that any class can solo and there wont be any social interection... and so other evil Cry... things.

An online game yes, a MMO...no. I would love to see someone do a MMO 3 version.

    Screw Atari.

I just reinstalled my Neverwinter Nights, all expansions. Went to Bioware.com to download some Premium Modules, like Kingmaker and so forth.. but guess what? They can't offer to sell nor provide downloads even to prior customers. Why? Because Atari removed all support for them and legally forced Bioware to stop offering downloads for them

Atari can suck a big fat floppy donkey dink for all I care. Them and Hasbro, who are equally greedy and sad. I don't give a damn about their prior gaming legacy. They are crappy companies who will never get a cent from me, ever again. Not like I even need to make a statement regarding this, as they are pushing themselves into the ground as we speak. Good riddance.

I see cryptic found a new IP to rape. Unfortunately, this time it's an IP I like....

They don't make games, they make crap, and count on your love of the relevant IP to make the purchase. Their Biz model is built around box sales. They are the used car salesmen of the gaming world. So sad.

I did not know this. That is revolting.

    WTF? No subscription fee?
