I love R. A. Salvador and still working on collecting all of The Forgotten Realms. I will be looking at getting these next books as well.
I am not sure how this will be with NWN but I will keep and eye and ear on this. I tried this game a long time ago and it was ok. I perfer PC games . Diablo was great in its time so was D2 but the next expansion has yet to rise up.
The problem with Diablo was yes you went in on server and chose if you wanted it open or not and could play solo or group up. But the truth is it was the same thing. Same quest and same rewards all the time. The difficulty made it change very little as far as that went. D2 was a bit different but basically it was the same thing with each difficulty. Maybe they aren't heading in that direction because games like that tend to loose their zeal after players have completed the realm of its range. Thus leading to players looking for more and moving on.
It all depends on what someone likes and enjoys in a game. Some people like browser games of pretty much colored stick people and very old style play. They feel that was the real game. Many though look at gameplay, skills, crafting and growth. Graphics and such have a draw for some. Now many are wanting to be able to have a home in the game run a shop/business and many other things.
I don't think any one game is gonna fully satify everyone. There is going to be some things they like about one and some they don't . The draw will be is the like more and the dislike bearable?
If it's tied to Cryptic , run. Save your money, do not buy this trash. Nothing good will come of this. It'll be designed for their C-Store to max profits, nothing else . This is an attempt to undermine Turbine and eat into their profits and player base. I hope Turbine wins it's lawsuit and get to own Atari.
This was all premium content. "Premium Modules", where actual work by actual studios was put in place to develop them. Hundreds of lines of professional voice acting, and such. We would call them DLC today, but for NWN, they're premium modules.

All of them completely gone, forever. I doubt you could even "pirate" them even if you wanted to, because everyone who bought them relied on the download server to essentially just retrieve them as needed. They require online authentication. They are literally never to be seen again. Only those prudent enough to physically back them up, will be able to play them.
You can buy the "Kingmaker" box, that has 3 of the modules, but it's ridiculously overpriced, as it's rare now. Over $20 I think... Once they are sold, I assume that too, will be gone. Maybe Atari will take it upon themselves to jack up the price even more, or maybe Hasbro will win the rights via their lawsuit. Who cares, honestly.
How sad is that? Seriously. What is with these companies and their utter lack of respect?
Therefore, Atari gave the DnD license to their own studio for development.
True. However Hasbro is (was?) suing Atari to revoke the D&D franchise away from Atari. Unless that has been settled, Atari can still lose big on this.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan
I will read the books without a doubt. I have read every Salvatore book. But the Cryptic game would have to be something we have never seen from them before to get mento try it. You never know because I like the Salvatore stories so well. But cryptic?????
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them? R.A.Salvatore
I'm utterly surprised by comments like this. Shall I direct everyone's attention to Champions Online and Star Trek Online? Cryptic is a terrible development company and they will butcher this game as surely as they utterly butchered their last two offerings.
There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth in the future as people who make comments like this find out what a shoddy development company Cryptic really is.
CRYPTIC??? WHYYYYYYYYY!!! *beats chest and body* *falls to knees* WHYYYYyyYYyyy! Also, the game cannot be launched 'In Tandem' with the new book. Amazon has that book scheduled to be launched on 5th October 2010. Shouldn't this game be like 2 to 3 years out?
It's Cryptic, they've probably been working on it for a year anhd have the launch schedualled for three months from now.
I know this is sarcasm, but I would think they would want to wait for all the books to launch before they launch the game. Salvatore only releases in Oct, so that would be 2012 for the game. But it could be with the second next year. But I doubt it matters anyway. Cryptic will mess it up.

It's always been my impression that the biggest problem with those two games was, they weren't what people expect when playing an MMO. Too little content, not enough exploration etc....
This on the other hand is not an MMO, there's no reason to go in to it expecting such an experience. Which nullifies the number one complaint about Cryptics games, that I've seen anyway.
The second biggest complaint I've seen with STO and CO is that they charge a monthly fee, as well as require RMT purchases for extra content. Which could still be a possibility with Neverwinter.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

IMHO D&D 4thEd is almost impossible to turn into a real time game.
This game will probably die a very splashy death shortly after a premature launch.
No offense, but 4e is about the easiest ruleset (IMO) to translate to an RPG or MMO. In fact, it seems as if it were written specifically for that. Out of curiosity, what about the ruleset do you think won't translate into a real time RPG? Not knocking, just truly curious.
As for the game, my fingers are crossed. I have hope.

Gauntlgrym is coming this October! RASalvatore.com is taking reserves for signed/personalized copies of the newest book from R.A. Salvatore!
so if the game is being released with the book, that explains a few things. work has essentially stopped on sto content to concentrate on making a user generated content system.... anyone else see this game being another re-skinned champions? SAD!
not even a little bit interested in this game as it is obviously going to be massively rushed like sto was. id love to play a new neverwinter game.... but not from cryptic.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
I'll play it after I get a huge staff through my heart, stepped on by a billion men, dragged across every ocean, eaten by every single thing that is alive in the ocean, brought upon a land filled with Cryptic employees (at modern terms, HELL), tied to a computer while being burned alive, the game turned on by JACK EMMERT (satan in christian belief system, anti-christ in many others).
Seriously, Cryptic it'd be more economically practical to hire professional killers than make a new game. I'd rather die than pay for a game your company made ever again. I'd also rather die than forget what your company does with games, I'm going to spend a lot of time telling what your cheesy cash-grabbing company does for a living.
I am guessing this game is going to have a subscription and micro-transfers like every game Cryptic has ever made. Perhaps you guys at Cryptic (like the anti-christ and such) should consider why Diablo games were popular, because THEY HAD CONTENT AND WERE TOTALLY FREE. I know you guys don't quite understand the word FREE, it seriously doesn't mean an F2P game with an item shop or anything like that.. it means COMPLETELY FREE
I really want this to be a good game. I'm a fan of NWN 1 and NWN 2, even though Oblivion really kinda screwed up multi-player in NWN 2, it can be mostly fixed with community made add-ons that fix the DM client and Lobby menus, downloading the huge walkmesh files for NWN2 was never an issue for me, even in NWN1 the best servers usually had huge custom hak-paks to download.
I usually try not to worry about what company is doing the dev for a game but the first thought in my head when I read Cryptic was making this was, FAIL.
I wish there was a way to track all of you people whining about who's making it and refusing to play it, so I could laugh at you properly when you inevitably try it out somewhere down the line.

Wont even touch it now that i know Cryptic who also made STO are developing this game. Will stay with NWN1 and 2 thank you.
Cryptic and 4th Edition rules? I'm no longer looking forward to this.
Cryptic = Avoid like a turd floating round your bathtub.
LOL...there's an image I could have lived without picturing. O.o
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This game is going to fail so hard. How does cryptic keep affrording to make disaster after disaster mmo's?
Atari = fail, Cryptic = bigger fail, 4th edition rules = huge fail. I don't think you can get worse than that.
Let's everyone cheer for Hasbro to get the license back from Atari, I hear they have a good case.
