Currently, I am playing WOW and I played EQ2 for some times.
WOW is actually not that great and I am feeling bored with WOW, besides, there are so many complaints from me about WOW. The combat engine is not even better than Acheron's Call 2 from my own playing experiences.
So how do I compare WOW and EQ2?
I would say EQ2 is roughly 1/3 of WOW. WOW equals to EQ3 advanced version. So EQ2 is just a pilot run product produced by SOE. If you want to play better game perhaps you should wait until SOE launch EQ3 then with lot of patches to upgrade to EQ3 Advanced version.
This is really not flaming to anyone but my opinion.
How to choose the game to play?
If you like to do crafting then play EQ2, if you like hunting around then play WOW.
If you like to beat the other player in game then play WOW.
In general, EQ2 is mainly focus on crafting so if you are getting tired of crafting then WOW would be the game for you.
I personally dislike crafting in EQ2 ... it takes too much components (which u make out of even more components) to make a scroll for example.
1 scroll = 4 components (A B C D) component A = 3 components (A1 A2 A3) component A1 = 3 components
Most coponents are handcrafted. Usualy component A has 3 levels, B is 2 levels, C is 1 or 2 levels, D is usualy storebought. All of this above is in no way a rule, I only brushed slightly through the crafting procedures, but I got so bored in the process that Im just ignoring it and running around with 100% crafting vitality.
What i realy like is the combat complexity In EQ2, WoW is a bit simpler, but what it lacks in complexity, it compensates in numbers - WoW has roughly twice as many skills then EQ2.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
i've gone back to basicly just mainly playing EQ 1, i logged in for a bit cause EQ 2 was getting a bit boring, and i got my lvl, and got re-addicted, i got myself invited to a nice guild, and now i am working on my epic, lol, and logged 90+ hours in a week, but that is also logged on while sleeping and at work
It is a shame that children who have spent so much time in environements that narrowly define them and provide rigid role and behavior structures essentially lose the ability to enjoy more open environments and diverse, non- or self-defined roles. They misguidedly percieve diversity and individualism as the dumbed-down and the structured, lemming-like culture as advanced or at least comfortably safe.

I play EQ2 when I want a fantasy MMORPG fix for 2 basic reasons: 1) I play SWG and Planetside, so with the SOE All Access Pass I have because of that I may as well play EQ2 2) If I tried to pay two 14.95 monthly fees for two different MMO's my wife would murder me in my sleep
So, I play SWG primarily, PlanetSide when I get in the mood to just go out and frag people (SWG is good for that too just in a different format) and if I get in the mood to play EQ I either hop on my old EQ1 character or hop on my new EQ2 character.
I'd love to play WOW I just can't justify adding another monthly fee for a *game* to my budget. I know I know it's "only" 15 bucks... but 15x12=$180 + box price of $49 and that's a cool $220 for a game. My wife already gets bent that I play ANY MMO's but at least we're getting 4 for $21 a month. She figures she's saving money since I don't buy single player games anymore
Anyhow. I'd LOVE to try WOW. But unfortunately my budget won't afford it AND an SOE all access pass. And I enjoy SWG and PlanetSide too much to give that up
So EQ2 is my fantasy MMO by default
I keep hoping WOW will release a free trial because, until they do, I won't be able to play it.

As I see it, you have several options: 1) buy WoW with cash and purchase game card. You will have to avoid wife agro and u gotta have high skill in sneaking, or invisibility spell. Or you can stun her with a fryer and quickly install WoW while shes standing helpless
2) move to another planet
3) eat radioactive food (Captain Crunch or McDonalds for best effect) to stimulate your evolution and mutation genes and become either tough as metal or be able to regenerate after your wife hits u with a shovel

Riiiight it's so diverse, because when you start off as a paladin you have the choice of being a paladin or a paladin. Then later on you have the choice to become a paladin or a paladin. It's so open, that when you grab a quest, you are told exactly where to go and exactly where to come back to. Then you're told who to talk to for your next quest. Yep the complexity is just baffling.

EQ2 has the same questing style. They do tell you where to go and where to return. The only annoying differece is that EQ2 doesnt specificaly say(usually doesnt) where the mob/person is. So what you are saying is, you dont mind spending 30minutes trying to find the mob(s) and spend another 0 minutes trying to find the NPC who gave u the quest? If thats the case, why not make all quests like this "go kill..." and you have to figure out what to kill by yourself.. that should make each quest last days, if not more.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Yes I do like having to figure things out on my own. I LIKE have to actually read a quest to figure out what I have to do. This makes the game so much more fun to me. In WoW you can go through and never read one word of the quest and get though it fine. Sure you'd miss some of the most interestintg parts of the game, but it's possible. I like that you can't do that with EQ2.
My favorite quest right now is Words of Pure Magic (or something like that) I have no real idea where to find what I'm looking for and I refuse to look at any spoilers. I've read the book hundres of times trying to figure out the clues. I love it.

Tend to agree here. It's much more fun when a quest isn't super-specific and just gives you a general idea. Look at any of the Indiana Jones movies. The movie wouldn't have been nearly as interesting if Indy hadn't had to figure out what the clues he found along the way meant, now would it. He'd just read the clue and go "oh I know EXACTLY where that is"
But, that said, I wish EQ2 were a bit more casual-play friendly. It's a worse grind than EQ1 was (and that's pretty amazing) which is why I don't play it much. Not a huge loss though, it isn't like EQ2 or WOW is all that different from EQ1 when all is said and done. And since I already have a 65 character or 2 in EQ1 if I get in the mood for a fantasy MMO I just hop on EQ1 and have some fun with old friends. No need to suffer through a horrendous level grind (EQ2) or to pay for another subscription (WOW).

Well I played WoW in bothe Stress TEsts and Open aswell as playing since launch. I havea levle 60 Orc Shaman as well. This game is good, but it has serious problems and its going downhill fast IMO.
WoW has alot of problems, alot of which are caused by Blizzard's incompetance.
-The servers while getting better are still worse than any other MMORPG i have played even in BETA.
-The leveling treadmill is rediculously fast.. i heard some guy made levle 60 in 16 days
-The game has horrid Customer support (for example i had a friend who got a deaththreat in game he reported them & they did nothing even though this man knows where he lives, and they have record of the threat as they log everything typed.).
-The game gets repetative too fast, after level 40 there are no new spells for any classes. Only spell upgrades
-Blizzards sense of in game balance is way off. They upgrade the games most overpowered class, while nerfing others and ignoring the ones the really really need love.
-The worst part of this game is its community. Never have i played a game where so many players acted so childish and rude.
I really do hope thisgame gets better I ahve cancelled my account and am going to Try EQ2 and or jsut go back to Dark Age of Camelot.

give them a break, and i know it can suck..
-The leveling treadmill is rediculously fast.. i heard some guy made levle 60 in 16 days
i've heard like 9days.....but those are the hardcore gamers, what lvl are you?^^ hehe.... i've seen people get 99 in ragnarok in 11days, and thats less time than 9 or 16 actual days(wow counts 24hrs when you hit /played; other games people loosely say "days"...

i just think blizzard is being really cool in this department yur talking about, alot of harsh language slides....i'm an adult, so i can handle anything anyone says to me in the game...tell yur friend to play toontown.
-The game gets repetative too fast, after level 40 there are no new spells for any classes. Only spell upgrades
its a video game bro......but its almost like 2 video games....alliance side and horde side.....all games get repetitive, probably why you stopped playing yur game prior to wow.
-Blizzards sense of in game balance is way off. They upgrade the games most overpowered class, while nerfing others and ignoring the ones the really really need love.
balance in most pvp games is an issue, its kinda hard balancing a healer vs. a range player with a pet, or a paladin vs a shaman with totems
-The worst part of this game is its community. Never have i played a game where so many players acted so childish and rude.
the community's diversity should be a +, basically we're all gamers and we come from different places, old and young.....theres going to be childish behavior, cuz first, its a video game, 2nd 600k people actually play(no trials), and 3rdly, its a blizzard game(their games have traditionally been fun)
I really do hope thisgame gets better I ahve cancelled my account and am going to Try EQ2 and or jsut go back to Dark Age of Camelot.
we need more haters quitting....soaking up our bandwith....its also good to take time off, you dont have to constantly play the same game.... and if the game dosnt get better, then we'll all kwit.

WoW has alot of problems, alot of which are caused by Blizzard's incompetance. maybe...they also have hundreds of thousands of people logging in, shit can get ruff. There are games that have MORE people logging in and don't have any of the problems. Not only that they have 88 servers. That's less people per server than most MMO's -The servers while getting better are still worse than any other MMORPG i have played even in BETA. give them a break, and i know it can suck.. Why should we "give them a break"? You're paying for a service you're not getting. I'll tell you what, give me $220 and I'll clean your house. No, hes right. you can go through (edit: SOME) of the quests without having to read them at all. you just look at the bottom and it will say "kill 10 gnolls." or "Collect ten shadow pendants from shadowgnolls" hes not lying, and you need to realize that some people can think for themselves without having to read something.

You need to realise that there are a fair proportion of quests that give details in the descriptive text without which you would be completely unable to complete the quest.
Originally posted by Jodokai Name the quest I can't do without skimming my quest log. Are you really sure you want to do this again Fire? I've already proved what a joke you were last time you tried this.
Sure thing.
I just opened my quest log and I see a lvl38 quest I picked up in Stormwind, "Preserving Knowledge".
The brief summary is "Bring five Recovered Tomes and the Worn Leather Book containing the Arm of Gri'Lek to Loremaster Dibbs in Southshore".
You're telling me that you need nothing more than that brief summary to complete the quest, but where do you get the quest items? Where are you supposed to be searching? Come on Jodokai... Where?
Unfortunately for you, the fact is that if you don't read the full descriptive text for certain quests, you will not be able to complete the quest.

Have played it thanks, and everyone is too busy laughing at you to worry about me.
Oh, you have played it. So then you're aware of the fact that it would be impossible to play through each quest in the game without reading the descriptive text.
I find it slightly bizarre that you'd go to the lengths of lying in order to criticize WoW, but whatever gets you through the day I guess.
Name the quest I can't do without skimming my quest log.
Are you really sure you want to do this again Fire? I've already proved what a joke you were last time you tried this.

Thanks for posting though.
Thanks for playing.
