If you like SWG so much , go play the game, it is there for you.
TOTAL FAIL. You just don't get it. After the CU/NGEs of SWG, there is no SWG that we knew to go back to. 33 professions down to 9. Let that sink in. 33 profession down to 9. Jedi that you worked your ass off for 12 to 18 months to get... now, one of 9 starter professions.
Shannia, what you wrote is a perfect description of how outraged SWG players felt. The gamers who didn't experience it, will never understand. Allow me to paint a picture for those who didn't experience it... You play WoW (most of you do anyways) You worked your a$$ off to get to level 80 and get 25 man ICC quality gear... Then Blizz comes out and says btw we are killing off half of the classes, making you re-roll and making everyone level 80. Oh and btw some of the gear you worked your a$$ off to get, will no longer work with your class...eventhough it did before.
There ya go, for those who didn't experience it... it would be just like that... and yes you would be livid.
are they not all part of star wars as well, aside from war?
Are you insisting TOR will have none of those?
yes and i forgot freedom and cooperation.
Sounds like you are thinking more about Star Trek. Star Wars was pretty much about war. Even the expanded universe was mostly about the Republic stumbling from conflict to conflict. The politics thing I agree with, ending in war of course. Star Wars Galaxies was a horrible representation of the Star Wars universe.
nonsense. you must be thinking about the new clone wars novels.

And besides that, you don't have to retrace the movies to depict the star wars universe. SWG was about making a place for yourself in that universe (and not necessarily as a hero on par with Luke or Han).
That said, Bioware made it pretty clear that they weren't planning to go the sandbox route from the start. The game will be heavily themepark, and that style lends itself more to making players feel "heroic." As much as I'd love to see another good Star Wars sandbox, this was never going to be it.
Im all about choice, to a point. I dont want a linear game like Aion turned out to be, I prefer a more open world where one can choose how and where to level. Having said that the idea of being dropped into an empty world doesnt appeal to me either. People flame TOR for many things, WOW in space being my favorite troll attempt. Favorite because if it has the above mentioned choice of leveling in one area or another and the polish and fun that was vanilla WOW, without having to wander around for hours to find the fun, then what was intended as a troll post will become a selling point for me. I have no idea how this game will actually play, nor do the trolls and fanboys but its something im interested and know what Bioware can do. If I have any reservations about the game at this point it will be how buggy it is at release and how long it will take to be fixed, as I said, I know what Bioware can do, good and bad.
WOW isnt great because it has 12 million players. WOW has 12 million players because its great.
Who would you chose to be, Uncle Owen or Luke Skywalker?
Well that's easy, Uncle Owen. The reason is Luke Skywalker's story is already written, and the devs must follow a very narrow path of content, which if you are a fan you already know. On the other hand, if you are Uncle Owen....you are free to create your own story.
Darn, I guess you missed the part where Uncle Owen was turned into a pile of charred bones. Looks like his story was already written too. A very tragic, not to mention short, story.
THIS GAME WAS NEVER EVER EVER MEANT TO BE SWG2! BIOWARE WAS NEVER GOING TO MAKE YOU PRE CU! THEY NEVER PROMISED OR HAVE ANY OBLIGATION TO MAKE YOU SWG2!
Now that i got that out of the way.
Holy crap you precu people are getting sad. And this is coming from someone who played SWG for almost 5 years from closed beta to post NGE......BIOWARE NEVER WAS MAKING SWG2. Jesus you guys are friggen thick....you want PRE CU....go play the EMU, or get some devs together and make a pre cu game.
You are correct, Bioware is not making SWG2... they are making WoW2 SW clone and it scares the hell out of SW fans... that is why we hope they do not use WoW as the inspiration and use SWG.
Actually, it seems that for the most part Star Wars fans are embracing this game. The only people I see who are scared are disgruntled SWG vets. Are they more Star Wars fans than anyone else?
I wish they made roleplaying games like they use to. These days its all 'big choices" and "visceral combat" I miss those old games where you had to remember to drink water, and it took five hours real time to fly somewhere - Mass effect 2 Game Salesman
I feel this quote applies to this thread, how ironic that it comes from Bioware. This game will never be SWG2 and while the QQ is fun, the actual debate is old and its just rehashed its like you guys just copy paste arguments.
I have an idea, if you don't like any of these games out right now or in the upcoming future, why don't you make your own game, since you have such brilliant ideas on how to make amazing games and experiences, surely any game company would be a fool to not hire you with your amazing ideas!

So SWG was okay. SWTOR will be great (well we will have to see), but i think it will be. They have stated that the class storyline is no more than 5% of the game . There will be general and world quests as well as all the normal features and as reported by testers some of the planets are enormous and explorable. Lets see how all the feature and most of the game world pans out before assuminmg that the 5% they have talked about becomes the whole it isn't.
(Oh the Space Combat is a farce and laughable but hey ho.)

I for one can completely relate to what Zarynterk is saying. I played SWG from launch through Rage of the Wooks and loved the game. I didnt care for how they revamped the jedi system from the original pray you get it after this next profession. I for one only used one holocron and it was silent (Much to the dismay and frustration of a close friend and guild mate who had used 5 or 6). I Loved creating a guild city and advancing through the city levels and advancing our guild and working as guild more often than not and not having the feeling of not being properly geared up to take on any of the content in the game. That wasnt an issue with us because we had all we needed internaly , or if we didnt we had very close ties to anther guild who would have it. From day one of reading about SWTOR I never once expected it to be anything like SWG was nor have I ever. Now that nots saying I wouldnt love to see a rebirth of SWG as it was at launch or I should say as it was before the jedi path revamp. Yes I remember the days of walking every where before I had a vehicle and no I dont miss that . So I will closewith yes I would love to see a SWG2(for lack of a better term) or better yet a SWG Ep1 LOL and I am also waiting for SWTOR with baited breath because I miss playing in that universe. I thought I could get a fix with Star trek online and got it with a lifetime (seeing I knew I would at lest play for about a year regardless of the quality) well that was a total bust so I will wait and beta as much stuff as I can until it comes out and hope that it will be worth the wait. So I think we all need to stop wishing it will be this or that and accept it for what is.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
That is a problem. When you get a game where players are the only form of real content, what happens to a game when all or most of the players are gone? You are left with an empty and boring world.
When all the players up and left swg , that is what we were left with.
except that no-one would have left had they not been driven out by SOE.
I have to disagree with this point, those who've read my posts may be able to attest to my story of leaving SWG, I left right before the CU and when I did leave it was during the time where we were all aware changes were coming but only the few hardcore knew exactly what changes those would be. I left because in truth after a year and the bug fixes never came and the luster started to dull on some of those friendships the game was not all it seemed when we first began.
Correct me if I'm wrong but The Matrix Online and the Final Fantasy mmo dropped around that time? Because I recall over one hundred members of a three guild coalition leaving for one of those two games before the CU or NGE.
you as the poster above assume that i was referring exclusively about the NGE.
So the problems, NGE and SOE. It's not clear what you meant by it being run by SOE, my guess is that SOE changed your game. Was you saying this during the pre-cu phase? Doubt it.

There is a Free Trial, if you like broken, wow-wannabe sandbox games then SWG has a lot ot offer you.
Broken, WoW-wannabe. Broken indeed, like it always was. WoW wannabe, NGE bashing again. Why not actually inform the poster? Let him know what is broken, or should I say, what has ALWAYS been broken and inform him about how the NGE works?
Where are you talking about all the other problems?
you just picked up on a few of my posts.
yes the NGE was the final major blow.
i've posted, lived and researched extensively about the other problems.
you are just not searching the right forums perhaps. my sig might give you a clue.
So you just feel you should claim the NGE was the only problem here. I'm not going to run around lookin for previous posts on another site if you can't properly answer questions on this one. Instead of being vague why don't you try to detail the reasons you quit. This is as ridiculous as people coming to this forum saying something untrue about TOR, where we demand the information the support it, get nothing and then are asked to prove what we say.
Anyways, I'm done talking about this. Getting kidna old always finding myself talking about a dead game in the wrong forums.
I quite because of the NGE.
but i know the problem came from way back, and the changes negatively affected my game experience since, as well as that of other people.
i posted a link earlier you must have missed it.
here you go:
1. SWG wont launch until its ready - SOE repeatedly told us this game wont launch until its ready to go. This early on was to include space, JTL wasnt ever supposed to be an expansion. Lets also not forget key components not included at launch like player cities, vehicles, and jedi. As a">A Complete History of SOE's Lies
OK first off....I would suggest folks refrain from clicking on a link to MMOFRINGE.com. The word I got is that Troneas has shared folks IP addys with Jestor Rodo, which allowed Rodo to harasses folks, like my kid, via my visiting the site once over a linked post from here.
As you can see from the thread linked below, Troneas is a staunch defender of Rodo....yes the same Rodo that had his rodoreports removed from Youtube for placing a bomb threat against SOE, and then went about deleting every instance of his name he could on the internet trying to avoid prosecution. Anyways word to the wise....might wanna avoid that site unless using some type of IP proxy.

As far as the OP.....this isnt a sim/sandbox themed game. It has been known for a long time this would be a themepark/adventure style game. Uncle Owen reminds me of SWG. It got torched at launch, and was nothing more than a charred cinder. Thank God TOR isnt shaping up to be SWG2.
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
A rule should exist that doesn't allow someone who wasn't alive when star wars came out to argue about star wars lore. That would end a lot of this BS. If you want to talk about how the game could be better or what you'd like to see, by all means....but please, for the love of God, don't argue lore when you know little about it. Seeing episode 1-3 and rehashing mumbo jumbo you've heard from others on forums gives nobody a sense of entitlement.
The fact that these threads exist is lame. Yeah, I came and fed the wolves. Oh well. A moisture farmer thread clearly aimed at nothing but jabs is evident before one even reads the thread and should be deleted right away. So sad.
Most of us are going to play SWTOR, because we love Star Wars....despite how we wish it had this or that. If you're here talking about the game and following threads you're going to play the game...even if you're whining about it right now. Remember that. If you really aren't going to play the game (doubtful) then, by all means, find something better to do with your time! Get a hobby, find another game, whatever.

Aaaah, so you're a kind of professional anti-SWG Vet then, are you? Did you have an argument with them that went badly or something?
Well, this is a forum about SWTOR. If you really need to play out your obsession, couldn't you do it over at the SWG Vets forum?

This sounds like a 'pot kettle black' comment. Anyway, I'll not be going there, because it's irrelevant to the heart of the matter.
The poster Moaky07 is giving a warning here. If what he says is true - which atm I'm not sure yet and I hope it isn't - then it's downright disturbing and the equivalent to someone posting links to suspicious sites that trigger your AV programs.
If this is the case here, which I'm not saying it is until either Troneas or Moaky07 has explained themselves further, then Troneas' post with the links should be reported to the mods and he should be forced to remove the links.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Not only is SW:TOR made by a different company, it is also set in a different time frame and there is no reason whatsover why it should adopt SWG gameplay, that only ever attracted a niche audience.
I am a SWG vet and am amazed that people really liked that game even in hindsight. When there weren't Combat Medics throwing their poisons through walls of "safe houses", it were Creature Handlers engaging in an epic battle with imba creatures that filled the screen, so you couldn't see anything. If it wasn't that, it were players desperately trying to grind jedi while the whole player economy went poof because your local weapon smith became sword master this week and the armor smith was out exploiting some creatures on yavin in the attempt to grind chef, his 23rd profession. How there was the consistent image that anyone who was really, desperately, trying to become jedi was a 9 year old and those who actually made it were already known exploiters. How the developers kept all the iconic star wars items gimped and spent their time introducing fish-tanks (!) and purple mandalorian armors and other things of similar use to the game, to keep the powerful "Barbie doll-house" player base happy that became stronger and stronger and more influental. How the developers then decided to merge the jedi folks with the GCW crowds by integrating jedi into the GCW framework — merging communities who were like cats and dogs all the time (because GCW players / PVP maintained that rebels and imperials should be at war and that this war is not about sorcerers and wizards running around, who suppose to be almost extinct). Some argued with SW canon, others simply that they want blasterfire, troopers and walkers stomping over the battlefields.
The whole idea with Jedi as alpha profession. The idea that each broken profession must be revamped 9 times a year without fixing anything just shoveling crap one side to the other. The ridiculous themeparks where the Emperor and Darth Vader would hang out in a sunny mason and their throne rooms that looked like a garage.
I was with the game for along time, due to my guild and because I somehow thought that it could only get better, that they would manage to set their priorities straight and so on. At that time, there was no WOW to compare, so the quality bar was already low.
I hoped the NGE would fix it. It didn't, but what made matters worse: a genuinely crappy, broken beyond repair game was glorified and people would go on and on how great it was. It wasn't. If you are into the barbie doll-house thingy, collecting images to put on the wall, decorate houses and such, I am sure there are other more polished games out there.
That's pretty much my memories as well. Who can forget the ever changing FOTM thanks to SOE constant swinging of the nerf bat? 33 professions? Many of those professions never worked or were so gimped that they were useless. I've never experienced the amount of crashes, rubberbanding and being stuck in one spot as I did with SWG. I don't know if it was the coding or the developers were just lazy, but in the 2 1/2 years I played that game it never got better in stability. If that game hadn't been based around Star Wars then I wouldn't have minded melee pawning ranged or any of the many IP breaking things that were constant.
I'm also curious why this discussion is even being allowed here. If you want to talk about SWG, then do it in the SWG forum. This is the TOR forum. Different game made by a different company.

There really isn't anything to say but: SW:TOR isn't the game for that.
I hate that argument, but it simply is not the game to be Uncle Owen in, unless you can imagine that out of the blue while doing unrelated things.
Games like EVE or Ryzom or the upcoming Archeage might be games where you can do that.
In TOR, it will be nearly impossible.
Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!
Pretty much sums it up.
I get it. SWG players want a sandbox. SWTOR will be a theme park.
If you don't like theme park games, SWTOR won't be fun for you.
But it will be fun for the people that like theme park games .
Just like SWG was not a themepark, and not fun for people that like themeparks.
No reason you can't make themepark and sandbox games from teh same IP, which is exactly what is happening here.
they tried a sandbox, SWG.
Now they are making a themepark, SWTOR.
if you only like sandbox games, you'll have to wait for one to be released, and it will probably be a different IP, not Star Wars.
Hear, hear.
I think more clearer it can't be said. (corrected the last sentence though, was a typo I guess. Freudian one? )

Then you're a smoking pile of bones...am I late?
Aaaah, so you're a kind of professional anti-SWG Vet then, are you? Did you have an argument with them that went badly or something?
Well, this is a forum about SWTOR. If you really need to play out your obsession, couldn't you do it over at the SWG Vets forum?
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
Indeed, so far all whinning could been answered simply by this:
SWG was commercial failure, Bioware isn't going to repeat it, so SWTOR won't be like SWG, THE -ING END!
If I wanted to role-play Uncle Owen, I'd wait for it to rain and stand on my porch holding a cup.
Or under this thread...
I'm sorry for the condescending remark, but come on, this is Bioware we're talking about, not Raph Koster.
For every minute you are angry , you lose 60 seconds of happiness."-Emerson
This sounds like a 'pot kettle black' comment. Anyway, I'll not be going there, because it's irrelevant to the heart of the matter.
The poster Moaky07 is giving a warning here. If what he says is true - which atm I'm not sure yet and I hope it isn't - then it's downright disturbing and the equivalent to someone posting links to suspicious sites that trigger your AV programs.
If this is the case here, which I'm not saying it is until either Troneas or Moaky07 has explained themselves further, then Troneas' post with the links should be reported to the mods and he should be forced to remove the links.

The ease with which predictions are made on these forums:
Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
