I dont think bioware or ea are concerned. They like the majority of game publishers and gamers realize the negative stuff is about 1 pct of gamers. And they will whine about anything that isnt what they want.
So no bioware and ea probably dont even realize there is negativity as the actualy magazines and reputable people that cover games for a living and gamers they met at conventions who actually got a hands on with the game loved it.
they raved about the quality and the fun they had. I didnt see one bad review of the demos. They also realize thsi game is still in early beta if that. has 6 months to release and despite the 1 pct who say this is a solo game they know better.
this game is an mmo in every sense of the word. they just make it so u can solo if u like. Much like wow did. No forced grouping. I dont understand why people think if there is no forced grouping that its not an mmo.
mmo= massive multiplayer online game. Not massive forced grouping onine game. This will be a mmo in every sense of the word as there will be alot of players playing this game in the same area at the same time where they can choose to interact or not interact.
Truth is we dont know much about pvp except there will be pvp which is instanced and on alderaan. We dont know about end game raiding or dungeons much except they will exist.
We dont k now how crafting or the economy works at all except there will be crafting. so there is alot of the multiplayer aspects like economy we know nothing about yet.
bioware says they have made it so u can solo if u like but u can group up with a freind or in my case my gf who i tend to level with in wow. There is also group quests but those quests arent mandatory to get to the end of your characters story. Forcing grouping tends to not work to well anymor.
Being solo freindly is a good thing in mmos today.
No becuase for every negitive post there are 20 fanboys ravign about how much they love the game and that neg. poster is a idiot that should be sodomized.
They should be worried tho , they got to focused on Single player experience (its an mmo) with full voice acting (its an mmo) story driven content (with lack of exploration and the such , its an mmo). Oh and their graphics just look bad (Its 2010)but i can handle that if combat/interfact is smooth (its an mmo).
Every game needs to focus on Single Player experience, that's what it's all about. Being an MMO is irrelevant to that. Same goes for Voice Acting.
And seeing as you actually know very little about what "exploration" will or will not be included in the game (yes, go ahead and cry about there being no space xploration), we can only assume that you are either a)completely ignorant, b) a troll, or c) an ignorant troll.
Im am sorry i played games like UO, eq, daoc, muds, ps, SWG, etc. where there was no to little focus on single player and i would argue are considered some of the best mmos ever made, becuase the goal was not single player but multi or massive player. TOR has put single player far ahead of multi or massive player makign TOR not so much of a mmo but an online multiplayer game like diablo ... i ask why do i need to pay $15 a month for you?
So i will " only assume that you are either a)completely ignorant, b) a troll, or c) an ignorant troll."
I have played those MMOs as well, but you are still right and wrong.
SW:TOR has not really put soloing anymore ahead than Blizzard did with WoW. In fact, one of the reasons it succeeded was because it allowed soloing from start to max level. All group content was opinional. However, like with WoW, in SW:TOR you can do dungeons or team up with a friend to do class quests etc. It is in no way hindered.
Also, SW:TOR has a persistent world design where people can trade, communicate, socialize, group and fight together or against each other. No different from most recent MMOs. According to many testers worlds are large and have no loading screens. We also quests that are fully interactive experiences very similar to Mass Effect 2, but they also all multiplayer interaction in the decision making. Yeah, it is so much like hack'n'slash Diablo with a lobby.
I think it would be retarded for a company to create game that focuses solely on multiplayer content because they would alienate a huge customer base.
And yes, you come off as someone with very narrowly defined view on what is "MMO".
Im not saying its not an mmo (go ahead and look for me saying it). I am saying their efforts have went into the non-mmo side of the game. At least every thing they are proud of / show off is from that side of the game. They have even said they want to give you the story of a single player game in an mmo. However, how are they doing this? Well from what they have shown us, using single player or multiplayer instances. It sounds good thats fine, but thats not massive. Could they have done this is open world? Maybe ... might it have been harder, sure. But i ask my mmo devs to work hard.
Look at your comments, you basicly just made the agrument that people have been using agianst TOR. TOR = WoW . Note you used wow as an example and not the games i mentioned, tho you claim, i was right and wrong with them , if so you should have used them. I myself was critcal of wow in this thread for those same reasons, pointign otu somethign i already stated hardly seems evidence that i am mistake, no?
My point is not that TOR will be a good game or not; it looks like it will be fun. My point is it doesn't seem much of an mmo. Like many others have said ill play it.... for a month or two. I play my non multiplayer rpgs for a month or two. When you release a mmo that focuses on single player in the least, more people will play them much like they would single player games. That is all i am saying. That and why make it an mmo a) if your avoiding massive? b) focusing on single player c) avoiding massive?
I honestly do not understand the purpose of TOR being an mmo currently. With the goals i see progressed in TOR, a GW1 in game "lobby" system makes more sense to me. And this way i don't have to pay $15 a month.

Sure does clear it up... I thought it was just a copy of the owners manual from my Swedish Ipod knockoff...
They are deep within their group trying to get a cohesive product ready for sale. At this late date there are no major changes, they would never finish if they paid attention to outside website forums such as this.
Don't worry all MMOs are not quite ready at launch and this one will be no different BUT it will still sell big-time, it's Star Wars, it's Bioware and EA, and they've spent a huge amount of money.
Only thing I fear is too high a price for it causing less sales than expected due to the high investment.
No becuase for every negitive post there are 20 fanboys ravign about how much they love the game and that neg. poster is a idiot that should be sodomized.

Well I can't say much about EQ, DAOC and SWG because I didn't stick with them as long but I can speak on UO.
UO had a ton of focus on single player. You didn't have to group for most things. There were tons of dungeons and things to do for the individual. There was also group stuff as well.
So I don't think you played UO.
The same could be said for any of those games , the issue what what was the focus? Noty what was possible? how was it designed? I saw a bug in lol the other day where a guy could attack baron w/o beign hurt. He could do it, but the goal was to have it late game/group effort. Id say UO may have less group focus that EQ or DAOC, but none the less i feel all those games were based with mmo game play in mind. Could you solo sure, and i said in this thread i love single player content , but what is the focus? Single player does not (!) equal solo. You cvan have a massive multiplayer game where everyone is solo. Much of the efforts of TOR that we have seen so far are SINGLE PLAYER. (it sounds like you can invite people in and it scales which is great, thast multiplayer, not mmo). Now in contrast GW2 is going to have a lot of non grouped massive multiplayer content. I prefer grousp but id take that over the lack of focus on "massive". In a way wow now suffers from this same issue, it still a good game, but its hardly "epic". Epic is some of the SWG fights, Epic is every day in the fronts in daoc for the first 5 years, epic is epic. It differs from person to person, but epic in mmos should invlove a ton of people otherwise , you are missign a dynamic that can only be had in mmos. (Some fps are more massive than mmorpgs are today, and thats is sad).
The focus wasn't on group play. The focus was on being an individual in a virtual world. There was no holy trinity, no 10 man raid dungeons, etc. The Focus was on allowing the players the freedom to do what they want in a fantasy setting.
Any further questions?
Don't lump UO in with the holy trinity loving themeparks lol. It wasn't focused on group play lol.
Most mmo;s that are aaa releases have a 150 mil budget. Im sorry i just cant see a big time company like ea and bioware both who have had huge success in other areas of gaming paying 300 mil for an mmo.
Star wars or otherwise. there is smart buisness and dumb buisness and paying what some of the people on here claim like ea louse would make ea and bioware idiiots.
I dont expect this to cost more then most mmo's meaning a 40-50 dollar box price followed by the 15 dollar a month fee most p 2 play mmos do.
Bioware is proud of there story and choices u make in the mmo. Why shouldnt they this is a part of mmos that doesnt exist today. Most mmos are go kill this or get this and im sure tor will have those kinds of quests. But how many mmo's have choices that affect how npc's and your companions will react to u.
It may not be innovation on par with no healer class which i personally think is stupid. But its still innovation. And having your choices affect the game will be cool to see. I fully expect this to be more polished then most new mmos that hit the ground also. Bioware is known for highly polished gameplay on release.
If they bring that to there mmo and the game play is smooth and fun it will be a success. Its star wars after all .
Bioware isn't wetting their pants in fear if that is what the OP is hoping for. It takes guts to run a business. If they had low self confidence, they might be fearful but I don't see it from them. That doesn't mean they won't do things change opinions.

Thought I wouldnt post anymore because I realised IHBT but this was too epic not to mention.
All i can say is, after making the mistake of buying an EA game, Dragon Age: Origins, and dealing with their customer support. and Bioware's, I won't get fooled twice by buying one of their products.
The customer support is fucked up, filled with lies, and very disrespectful. To get everything working you shouldn't have to know how a PC works. That being said, a company with poor customer support is a company on life support. Unless they invest in customer support, don't expect SWTOR to succeed. Also speaking with Sandro, Miguel and other spanish names, only points to them hiring cheap labor. The unrelated-to-your-question answers only fortify such a thought.
Here is the full reponse by email to a the problem of the game not loading:

Yup... nothing. That's what you're getting into if u buy SW:TOR.
What was the solution to the problem? In the game folder you must manually click another exe to be able to start the game. I am a programmer, but I just cant imagine someone who doesn't even know that games are stored elsewhere than on the desktop having to figure that one out.
Customer support is pretty awful in most games. I remember people complained about Blizzards customer support when i was looking into buying WoW. Yet that seems to be doing ok.
All depends who you get on the customer support, some are nice and helpful and some are right a-holes. Its the way people are and trying to find enough people that are VERY helpful and willing to work the hours is hard.

As to the 300 million, I don't believe it.
Methinx it's somewhere south of half that. But it does kinda blow the OP's cover of "just your average Joe genuinely asking a legit question", don't it?
I am not sure why all SWG vets are lumped into this whole, Troll, wants SWG2, bla dee bla bla crap.
I am a SWG vet and I am looking forward to this game NOT being SWG2.
300m for the game? What realistic reference do you have? Did you research the financials released by Bioware to their investors? Probably not.
Now, onto the main gist of the post. I highly doubt that either company is in panic mode. Bioware has shown time and time again that they can produce a hit title. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR. Just having their name attached to it will mean that it sells well.
Look at when Blizzard was getting ready to release WoW, and it was going up against EQ and Asherons Call. Many people said that they didn't know what they were getting into and could not compete with the juggernaut of the time, SOE. Fast forward a few years and that isn't the case.
Many people just post on these forums to scream that the sky is falling to see how many others will jump on their bandwagon and follow suit. You are doing nothing for yourself nor the companies that are producing the games. All you are doing is wasting bits.
Stress out all you want, based on what you feel is the end of the world for Bioware. I will be waiting patiently for it, enjoying something else in the meantime, and when it comes out, I will be buying it. It's my choice and no matter whom complains or bitches, I will still buy it and make my mind up on my own.
EA has made 300 million dollar investment in this game. They hired one of the best studios in gaming. And have one of the best settings in popular culture.
Yet the negativity that is starting to surround this game (not only on this site) grows every day.
Now I am not sure about EA. But if I was in their shoes I would slowly start to panic.
The game is probably finished by now (and is only tested and fine tuned at this moment) Yet its clear that they have nothing good to show.
Every new video (like the latest one of imperial agent) looks worse than previous , and only puts more fuel to the fire.
I think they clearly dont have nothing better to show too.
And If they do have something better to show. What are they waiting for ?
For game rep to crash and burn so it would rise from ashes like a phoenix ? ( <- that is irony)
There is similarity here with APB. Great ideas , great budget , skillful company. But somewhere between idea and execution things got really wrong and end result is simply flawed.
So are EA and Bioware in panic mode right now ?
There is no panic mode. By now they know people will talk. If people were not talking they would be worried. Talking is still press and press is good.
I think EA, LA and BioWare are all in full blown panic mode.
Fact is more people dislike TOR and are blasting it after seeing it. More so then that but the EA Louse came out and said it and chances are we will hear more about this in the coming weeks. At this point everyone can understand it TOR could have been a huge game however they wasted 300 million and Guild Wars 2 (a game that is a skill based sandbox) is now beating it in everyones mind.

Who is this everyone you speak of? Where is the proof of the 300mill cost, besides a single internet post?
I think there is some panic at EA but not directly because of the criticism directed towards SWTOR. EA hasn't been doing that hot for a while now and Riccitiello is rather unpopular with shareholders. If SWTOR were to be anything less than a success I think Riccitiello's head would roll (along with a few other execs), but ultimately the company would continue on. However if the game "fails" (isn't profitable) then I could see this being EA's last foray into the mmorpg market for some time; two major failures in 3 years (WAR and SWTOR) would scare them away despite the lure of all that WoW gold.

Pfft if you went by what you read on the internet, WoW is the biggest failure PoS ever. I'm sure the folks at Blizzard cry themselves to sleep over the internet hatred of their game on piles of money with hookers and coke.
apparently you havent kept up with current events, last i heard which was recently WoW has PASSED the 12 million subscribers for a MMO. But anyway when i read forums like this that brings out negativity about certain MMOs i do not let negativity from other people who talks bad about other games and so on that affects my decision about if i should or should not play that game, i do the research and look at videos about it and so forth and try trials and if I like it I buy it. But what factors in MY DECISION to me what is most important is not only graphics which ranks below this certain aspect of games but the thing i look for is GAMEPLAY which is important to me and my decision.

Everyones??... Doubtful. At this point both games look like fun, and I plan to play both. As for the wasted $300 million... You do realize that $300 million has never been verified, and that its a HUGE amount of money? I seriously doubt they've spent that much.
Oh boi look at this here thread, attack of the casual player / fan bois. Fact is this game has brought nothing unique to the market. Bioware is good at makeing single player story games. I admit that, I LOVED the never winter nights series, I loved Dragon age origins however I know I will not like paying $15 dollars a month to play a MSingleplayerOnlineRPG with a little companion that is going to look just like everyone elses. Whatever happened to the sand box scheme, clearly those were the best MMO's.
My favorite so far in this thread is someone who asserted that (paraphrasing) "the star wars hype is fading". Good gods. That's about as far in as I needed to read. Yeah EA is just quaking in their boots over this product.

I will be waiting patiently for it, enjoying something else in the meantime, and when it comes out, I will be buying it. It's my choice and no matter whom complains or bitches, I will still buy it and make my mind up on my own.
I would honestly like to know this information.
However if the game "fails" (isn't profitable) then I could see this being EA's last foray into the mmorpg market for some time; two major failures in 3 years (WAR and SWTOR) would scare them away despite the lure of all that WoW gold.
apparently you havent kept up with current events, last i heard which was recently WoW has PASSED the 12 million subscribers for a MMO.
