Bahahaha. I can't count how many times I tried to talk to someone but miss them by a nudge and end up getting fined and "my stolen items" taken away for accidentally taking a damn apple.

I also won't forget when a beggar stole some food and everyone yelled "STOP HIM!" So I cast Paralyze on him - nothing else - and all of a sudden I'm the bad guy and the guards are called on me. Such immersion breakers... sigh.

Some of their armor/weapons look very good but for my taste most don't.

I consider BethSoft and their ES series among the top out there (for my playstyles), but I will admit it tends to be more because I really like the overall design and their vision. I think their art and programming teams are "OK" compared to others.

I've always spent a good bit of time using the un/packers the modding community comes out with to retexture (or fix) some of their assets myself; the hours I spent with INI tweaks and the like to get Oblivion to run smoother and at the same time look better; the amount of time I spent fixing save files that went corrupt in Morrowind...

Well that was when I was studying as nowadays I don't have the time for that anymore and have to rely on the absolutely amazing modding communities for these games.

I also did the same thing where I went to talk to an npc and insead took something off of the counter.

One two of the funniest things happened in morrowind where, in the first 2 minutes of the game I accidentally targeted someone in seyda neen and was descended upon by the town.

Not to repeat that same mistake I eventually ended up in Balmora and went to the mages guild. By chance I discovered that there was a mage that could port me elsewhere. As I stood there being all "role play" by positioning myself on a dais next to her I accidentally fired off a spell. Suddenly I was attacked on all sides, lights were going off everywhere (from spells) I think I saw a hunger summoned and I hit the dirt.

    good times.

I think that's a downfall of games like morrowind or Oblvion as they tend to rely upon the developers making the "building blocks" for the game and then putting them together in all sorts of ways to make new areas.

In some ways it doesn't work because how many times in Oblvion have you been in  a cave and seen that little rise in the corner, some stagalgmites around it, possibly a chest up there and thought "oh yeah, I've seen that millions of times".

Unfortunately there are a few too many generic things in these games.

Dragons?  Yawn.  At least the environment will probably be slightly outside of the usual this time.  Instead of Hell and pretty green meadows we'll get icy tundras and glaciers hopefully.  But vikings have been done to death as well, I don't see much chance for the uniqueness of Morrowind and its ashlanders to make a comeback in Skyrim with the Nord.

I hate to say this but, the damn engine sucked! A tear rolled down my cheek when I read that they would not use it. After morrowind, oblivion, and the fallout games, the engine crashes were so predictable you could set your clock by it.

There are so many "potentially" great single player RPGs coming out next year. The hard part will be finding the time to play them all.

What's funny is I'm currently playing Larian Studios  Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga, which uses Gamebryo, and haven't had even one crash or freeze, unlike in Oblivion/Fallout.

After seeing the last part of this of Cry engine 3 demo i'm really hoping someone makes an open world rpg using this engine.

imagine exploring forests oblivion/fallout 3 style like the ones at the end of this video.

Very cool. Elder Scrolls is one of my most fav RPG series. I remember Arena and I know how much I LOVED Daggerfall. It was the first time I saw real big cities and, weather changes, seasons with snow in the street and a really vast open world. As bugged as Daggerfall was, it was quite an eye opener. I also love the entire world lore of Tamriel. Can't wait to see what happens next.

As to the sandbox thing. I guess I like it because it lasts longer. I can literally drown myself for months into a world, which I like in a RPG.

I loved divinity 2...isn't it strange how having no quest markers can change the feel of a game.

    Info from Gameinformer...

    On levelling:

    • Totally revamped – no more class selection at the start of the game,

and every skill you upgrade contributes to your overall level. Also,

each time you level you get extra health plus the ability to get either

      additional health, magicka or stamina.

    • Each level also brings you perks.

    • You can advance past level 50, but it’ll be extremely slowly.

    On skills:

    • Mysticism is gone.

    • 18 skills, down from 21 on Oblivion, and 27 on Morrowind.

    • The game tries to accommodate players who want to specialize in a

certain profession (like mage or thief), while at the same time giving

room for players who like to do plenty of everything.

    On the story and lore:

    • Set 200 years after Oblivion in Skyrim, a region north of the imperial city, where the Nords live.

    • The dragons are returning, as it was prophesized. You are going to be trying to stop the wicked dragon god.

    • You are a dragonborn – a dragon hunter. Your mentor is one of the last blades.

    • Also, there is a civil war, since the king is dead.

    • Enemies include were-yeti’s, giant spider, and dragons.

    On combat:

    • They want to make it more dynamic and tactical. You have to assign

each hand with a function; either magic, two weapons, a weapon and a

      shield, etc..

    • You can also waste stamina by sprinting, allowing you to get access to tactical positions.

    • Emphasis on really improving the combat this time around.

    • They are also putting care into how each weapon feels in your hand.

    Other:

    • Third person view has been improved

    • Five massive cities, more variation in caves and underground sections.

    On quests:

    • Quests are much more dynamic now.

    • The quests are now more determined by how you build your character,

individual actions and overall much more dynamic. Examples provided: If

you are more of a magic user, some other mage may approach you who may

not have if you were just a melee character. Or if you killed someone

who owned a store that was going to give you a quest, his sister would

inherit the store, but she may resent you before giving you the quest.

    • Also, quests you are given will be modified by how you have played.
