After playing DCUO, every other MMOs combat seems boring.

I think that is because you done the same thing for so long. If it truly is fun or not will take some months to find out.

    Rubbish lol.

Go play a burglar in LOTRO and then play anyone of the rogue classes in rift, the rift rogue classes are lacking in imagination and utility. You may have all those souls and skills but 60% of them are just repeats with different names. All the classes in lotro are well though out and enjoyable.

As i have said before rift is as button mashing as you can get. You have all these skills but you use 3-4 of them unless they are buffs.

The combat is the worse thing about it not the best. Are you telling me that with 50 million they could not include voices in combat or quests bag for quest items or crafting bags?

The cat is out of the bag and now more people are getting into the beta you will se more of the same thread as this.

Ill say it again..RIFT is no better than Rune Of Magic and should be FTP it's that simple.

You really think RIFT will compete with the other MMO coming out this year or early 2012. As a matter of  fact everything i am hearing and seeing of Tera makes RIFT less appealing and that's an Asian MMO which i have never played before.

Nah ill stick with Vanguard because rift really is boring. After 4 betas and two level 27 or should i say one 29 they can keep it.

    Well said.

    The King commends your observation.

If it's a matter of animation LotRO and RIFT both sort of have the same problem. Plus a global cooldown sort of gives them similar pacing.

But in RIFT as you spend points just across 2 trees for a rogue you'll have so many direct damage skills that are just similar with possibly an element swap who give you the same combo point, similar damage, and there's no consideration of speed or cooldown since it's global.

    arenasb chose his words poorly.

Your grammar and speech pattern begs me to ask:

    Are you Glenn Beck?

If so, you owe me money.

But regardless, where do you rank fervent fanbois on your educated and peer-reviewed listing of mmo persons?

Too bad Vanguard is dead development wise then, isn't it?

But I guess some people like that. So they can automate the grind better, i guess ?

I agree, honestly I don't like rift at all. Total disappointment.

Rift is a "better" game, but DC Universe is more "fun", DCU movement and combat feels more fluid and alive.

they never sayd they would have next gen combat.....just the class system kinda cool and the "dynamic" rifts.

    dont believe the hype...

It's good news then that people who wouldn't enjoy the game at launch got the beta keys and made their minds for themselves, isn't it?

    Amen.

If I had bought this game based on it's hype alone so shortly after buying FFXIV without reading up on it much...

    Oh geesh.

The King wouldn't trust himself as a consumer any longer!

With 2 crap purchases made in such a short time in a genre that has well enough established products that offer the same mechanics and game play but a lot more content and structure.

Would I be trust worthy enough to even buy eggs for the King's morning crepes?

Guess that's what these beta tests are good for. You are a wise individual and this message should be spread en'masse.

Actually yes. I for one wish VG had the same programmers as Rifts have, with a solid engine and the right kind of polish it would have been a really great game.

Great ideas, lousy coding. And no game can become great with lousy coding.

The good thing with Rift is that it is a solid ground to add to, I am not really impressed by the current quests and content, but most MMOs start out rather simple and add to them later. It is almost impossible to fix up a really buggy game even if it have good content, I only know of Eve that succeded.

I still wish Rift had a bit more adreneline filled combat, but the game in itself is solid and I can see it have many players, probably around half a million. But it does not have better combat than LOTRO, they are rather similar.

Not much new but well made is by far enough today, even though it will be very interesting to see how it does against TOR, GW2, TERA and WoDO.

I would have to agree with the OP, game overall feels boring and generic.  This is really the best companies can do now a days?

They did call it next gen and the discussion here is if a next gen game must have next gen combat and/or if the new stuff is enough to call it nextgen.

I for one say it is the typical marketting buzzword all game uses, 2 things is not enough to call it nextgen, unless at least the other games that follows uses the same system and the question is still if WAR or Rift invented the dynamic rifts.

That does not change the fact that Rift is the best MMO releasing since LOTRO.

Welcome to the forums. Hopefully you'll contribute more with your upcoming messages.

    Back on topic.

I like how the UI is complete, both group and raid one. It's especially important for a healer to be able to do his job without frustration. And rifts are a good practice for more raid oriented content eventually.

At what point has the slow-paced, "boring" combat become the norm in MMORPGs? Did no developer ever consider that the reason why so many MMORPGs do not succeed is because they barely have got anything new or better to offer than existing MMORPGs?

Well with the global timer the melee classes don't feel too slow. I'd say they seem quite spammy. Soon macros will make it more streamlined. So you can hit the 3 buttons, for example as a warrior, that are sort of utility, that build power pips, and then executes when the 3 points are filled.

It's actually boring because it's all arbitrary, the casting is a little better than this. Unless you make just direct damage casters, there's some unique utility in some of the mage classes once you filter pass all the copy & paste blasts.

I don't think I would play a Diablo style clickfest MMO. Others would. Different tastes for different people.

Thats what sells these days for a quick buck. In 5 months no one will care about RIFT. Its a cycle that has become the average in the MMO genre.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

God if only MMO designers had a clue about the (edit, the King was tired)importance of setting and people adapting to their class tactics rather than begging to be balanced with every other millionth player on the server. It'd make it all seem a bit more than Rock'n"Sock'em Robots ye olde typical fantasy edition.

I wouldn't mind an MMO with just cooperative play. But how many would on this and other boards would scream murder if no PvP was allowed in some fashion? Remember LOTRO anyone?

Thank you, that is exactly how I feel. New games like this feel so 2000ish. Not just combat, but the story is bland text, the quests are bland get 5 of these guys. If all of these "new" mmorpgs were single player games they would all have failed years ago but we still accept this in this genre.

I think mmorpgs in general have been stuck in time. This game would just be another example.

Yeah most of it is idd marketing

btw: sorry for posting the wrong info then....i never tought they where promoting rift as next -gen....my bad.

like i sayd.....dont believe the hype.......play and if you love it then fine if you dont, then people should move on.

Next Gen is a meaningless term which seems to get a lot of players knickers in a twist.

( I just got this on copy and paste now, as so many people buy into the concept there will be a next gen)
