I place it more in the category of WoW and believe it will blow up just like WoW did over the next year.Trion has a great team of devs and we all know that speaks volumes as to the success of games in this genre. If devs listen, we win, they win. If devs don't listen, everyone loses. Trion has proven 1 thing above all else. They really care what their community thinks. They listen to feedback and if appropriate apply that to their game. What more could you want?

50k people per server? There is no way they are packing each server with 50k people. Even 10k is possible, but I was thinking more along the lines of 5k per server. I think they want the servers packed with people, and then they'll open more servers as needed.

SOE could do 5k on their old EQ servers. The new blade technology is quite a bit more powerful. It can accomodate 50-75k per server.

If there were 50k actively connected and playing people per server, there wouldn't be a single mob available for anyone to hit. Every single spawn point would be covered in players. Quest "!" would be invisible because of all the blue text over players' names. :-)

I'm sure it's physically possible and the hardware could do it and they could even have 50k people with characters on a particular server, but they don't have 50k actively connected and playing people per named server.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Actually it's not all that bad, seeing as how a game like TOR that has been hyped up  anticipated for years doesn't even have 1 million forum accounts yet.

Somehow, I bet the number of forum registrations for Rift BEFORE ANY KIND OF BETA probably wasn't so close to a million.  Or 5,000, for that matter.

That is exactly my point. Nobody even cared or knew about this game a few months ago, they probably had like 10 k registered users on the forums, now after , what I would call, a successfull beta the forums accounts have sky rocketed.

It just goes to show that Rift has a lot of force.

I'm not sure if you meant that to try and hurt my statement, but all you did was prove my point. This is good for a game that was not on anyones radar and now after proven quality millions of followers.

Not only this, but this reminds me of how WAR started.  Let's see if Rift doesnt become one of the PvE-centric lawn-darts that every other mainstream mmo became in the last 6-years.

It always had pve centric game play. Let's not try to paint it for something that it never was going for.

It will have pvp but it's not a 'pvp' game.

Lets be intellectually honest.  That's what I said.  WAR, along with every mainstream game in the last 6-years was PvE-focused, including Rift.  Rift is not a PvP game.  I drew a comparison to people looking at Rift, and similar numbers that 'looked' at about every other game in the past.

That is pretty good. People tripping over themselves trying to make this a trivial fact. Like many have pointed from zero interest to this many that was some beta run. Even if they keep half of it they have done tremendously well. Good job Trion. Foxes and sour grapes and all that.

ah I see, I thought you were trying to say that it would "become pve centric" and would be part of those other games because of this as opposed to you saying that it is "just one of many other" pve centric games.

I'm sure a lot of the people who signed up for beta (myself included) wish they weren't contributing towards that number, as I have no intention of touching that game again.

  • TazlorTazlor Member UncommonPosts: 864

that doesn't really mean anything though.  it doesn't mean they have 1 million subs.  what i find impressive is that Rift is the top selling game on steam.  beating Portal 2, Dragon Age 2, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, and Brotherhood is pretty good IMO (even if some are only up for pre-order, it's still impressive).

LoL there are so many people anticipating this game going live right now, you can't even get on the forums.  ALmost every person I seen in beta had a CE turtle.... I don't care about your doomsday predictions. I am sure that people that don't use the forums will be playing this game aswell.

You know that now since the beta everyone and their grandmother know about this game.   Some of the WoW fans and fans of other games (aion, war) they are all moving their guilds to Rift.   Please don't try to downplay the situation.

I think this game will start out with a very healthy population and hopefully remain that way.

Except you seem to be unable to see the forest for the trees.

If there is no incentive to sign up for a forum, for example, A GAME TO PLAY, then people are far less likely to sign up for it.  When there IS AN INCENTIVE, then lots of people sign up.  Rift is an example.

Seeing as how with SWTOR there is currently no real incentive to sign up for the game, (no beta, no free lollipop, nuttin')and they already have forum numbers competitive with a game that is minutes from HEADSTART, then the comparison is kinda silly if you want to compare their relative success.

As a matter of fact every single server is full , I can't even get on the game right now. I have an 1 hour 47 minute que.../sigh

Is there anyone with access to the steam client? I can login to the website, but not the client right now. How many people does steam say are playing the game right now?

    * edit *
Nevermind, you just have to click the thing, even though it's not a 'link'.

9,600 currently playing through Steam. I wonder what that will be around 5PM and if I'll even be able to see a server?

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

Well guys, provided is not one million, but just FYI, first ten seconds of the servers up in the head start, 1500 peeps logging in sametime... Estimated time to get inside is 1 hour, damn...

    ... Good sign.

Anyway numbers are not that meaningful at start, as someone said, let's give it three months.

Whatever... Trying to log in to have fun, the rest for me is not important, 4 million players can stick with WoW ;)

    Eth.

May look at seastone since I played beta on that one.

I don't keep steam open while I play games, so I am not sure if that is a good indication.  Alot of ppl probably don't leave steam open.  Unless you maybe bought the game off steam.

I can't see how making people wait for nearly 2 hours to log in to the game at 18:03 gmt because EVERY server is full is a good thing at time of writing i have a wait of 4h to log into Blightweald server.

  • JohnnyMotrinJohnnyMotrin Member UncommonPosts: 439

At 1:03pm eastern time, 15 servers were full with about 2k people waiting in queue per server.  Whoever thinks Rift doesn't have a large amounts of subscriptions sold are just envious and Wrong!  A lot of people were hoping Rift would be another APB and I'm afraid that's not going to happen!

A pre-launch is packed full? Surely you jest! [sarcasm]That's never happened before![/sarcasm]

Jokes aside, guess what. Like Aion and any other MMO after a pre-launch is over the game will not be as packed and guess what, the hype will die down and no one will care.

When did you start playing "old school" MMO's. World Of Warcraft?

1900 people ahead of me on Briarcliff.  Estimated wait time is 8 hours + LOL!!!

I would choose another server but I don't want to chance getting at the end of another line with just as many people.

TRION just opened up two new US-Servers:

    Deepwood US PvE

    Stonecrest US PvP

Ha!  You wish Dreamer!  Keep dreaming!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has friends in guilds of other games and heard stories of entire guilds leaving other games to play this.  The great thing about having such a polished Beta is that what we saw is what we get.  No surprises!  If you enjoyed your time in beta, you know you'll like the game because it was virtually a finished product for over the last month.  Yes the numbers will flatten and the spikes won't be as steep, however this game isn't going anywhere so pout all you want.

Sure guys, everybody entitled to have an opinion.

But in my 12 years of MMORPGing I have never seen a title as ready as this one @ the moment of launch.

Anyway, every one to each own, have fun in your game!

oh come on man. Stop with the doom bringing and wishful thinking.  This isn't Aion, and the game is tailored to american players. It is exaclty what the large population of players in MMO's want wether you like it or not.

It is easy to get into and fun.

So your doomsday predictions didn't pan out, get over it man.

At any rate, I am not very happy about my 10+ hour que time.
