1 Million Accounts

Eh, the 'one million accounts' seems to be the new marketing catchphrase: Anyone else remember Cryptic's version of it around the time STO launched? Before that it was 'one million boxes shipped' (or something to that effect) when AoC and WAR were coming out. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised to see many more MMO PR sections making this statement from now on. It will be nice for Rift if they can get that many box sales within a year, and keep between a third to half of that many players. The game doesn't interest me enough to play it, but I do hope it succeeds.

"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan

Bah, I need to learn to read. Read someone else's post and not the original. My bad. Still, an impressive number.

    2) For those saying "nobody was following rift until 2 months ago", Um, excuse? Plenty of us who are indeed somebody have been following this game. Word of mouth is a large part of how this game got to 1 million PURCHASED ACCOUNTS at pre-release. Just because some thought it was another fail/sameoldsame/clone game and wanted to talk it down without even playing the beta doesn't mean Trion/Rift didn't have a healthy following before "2 months" ago.

While not purchased accounts, the majority of the above still remains true.

Ok, sure, I'll give you that hardly anyone ON THIS SITE was following it, but this isn't the only MMO site out there. As a sampling the majority of my guild avoids this website yet all have been following the game since mid to late last year at least. Some longer.

Kudos Trion, keep on doing things in a straight-forward, honest way and making the cynics and pessimists look bad!

Brave of you to admit you were wrong.

Yet silly of you to state that Trion posting a press release regarding ACCOUNTS(as we understand their definition) as a "straight-forward, honest way" of marketing... Cryptic were dicks when they did it, and Trion are dicks for doing it now.  And wow, is it bad for Trion to dance like Cryptic does.

If you're enough of a moral creature to admit you were wrong, you're enough of a such to admit that argument is absurd.

Still, I hope you got past the queues and managed to enjoy some time in the game you love!

Most of the haters here aren't in the game playing right now. If you have actually played the game for a reasonable amount of time during beta, you'll know why it garnered so much interest. Just at the early launch, we're already seeing why this game is around to stay! Congratulations Trion!

lol, at how they are trying to confuse the media

The forums on the official site have 130k registered people.

The amount of real paying accounts is likely sub 100k.

    Collector's editions are scams.

Making an account doesn't give you a forum account automatically. Nice self-pwnt. This goes to show most of the haters havent even tried the game.

    Did I say it did?

This is similar if Blizzard would say:

WE HAVE 300 MILLION ACCOUNTS (oh and 12 million actual subscriptions)

Blizzard would get so much flack for doing that, but if Trion does it it's fine. Oh boy, the fanboys really have their claws around this game don't they. Hold on tight while you fall of that ledge will you.

    Collector's editions are scams.

You DID say it did. You assumed that when you make a Trion account that it automatically registers you to the RIFT forum which is why you pointed out the forum's registered users. Keep digging kid, it's hilarious. :D If you actually registered and tried the game, you'd know a forum account is optional. They never claimed subscriber numbers, just the total accounts which meant interest in the game.

Like a deer caught in the headlights! Anyone who read your post above got what you were trying to say. XD

Trion never mentioned subscriber numbers or active members. They didn't lie about anything. :D

Her point is that they're trying to confuse people.

She never said that making an account doesn't give you forum access either. Don't troll people please.

Well I am not going to say people are wrong, but account numbers in the first month really mean nothing. A lot of people will buy a mmo, play it for the first free month, then trash it. Or hold on for another month if they find it okay. The real telling numbers will be around the three month old mark. If it has, and is holding over a million at that time, then she may just be compition for WoW.

Should't you be playing the game or on the RIFT forums?

You have waited all this time for your game to come out and here you are on these forums ...

Go enjoy your game or is it that boring you still have to post in these forums.

They do not have 1 million. They have 1 million registered people since their site went up.

Everyone who played in the free beta and everyone who didn't is in there too.

It is like saying that your themepark has had 1 million visitors, by counting the cars who drove by, evne if they never entered the themepark.

I was being nice, personally I tried the beta and decided not to go any further. You pays your money, you takes your chances as it were, and I decided not to pays my money.

  • bastionixbastionix Member Posts: 547

Ah ok, well I do not care either way. Just more marketing, if they want to show off number, show subscription numbers.

Well, off to watching more Diablo3.

  • GPrestigeGPrestige Member UncommonPosts: 523

Well, either way... every single server they had released with had a queue of at least 1,000 people as soon as they went up. This is EARLY RELEASE, the time when only those who pre-ordered are playing. When it is actually released there will be even more players. They had to constantly open new servers throughout the day to alleviate queue times. Hell, the server i play on has a 1.5k queue STILL at 3am EST.

-Computer specs no one cares about: check.

-MMOs played no one cares about: check.

-Xfire stats no one cares about: check.

-Signature no one cares about: check.

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    -Narcissism: check.

Lol, if you are expecting a massive influx of players on release then you are dreaming. Anyone who likes the game will have pre-order,why wait till release when you can have early start.

Oh wait, you are thinking that people will hear what a fan-tabby-dooby game rift is and quickly buy it because they don't want to miss the fun...lmfao.

    DREAM ON...

These are actually pretty nice figures considering the rift main forums only have 184,000 users.

I suppose the 184,000 are the people who actually activated their accounts, and the 816,000 are people who didn't click the activation link in their email?

LoL people are really frustrated aren´t they ?

Who cares if its 1 million account created , it doesn´t mean 1 million boxes sold .

Now why are people even worried about 1 Million , ah lets see wow people are finally getting the truth .

Cataclysme sold 4.7 million So thats not even close to half the 12 million subscribers ...

Unless China makes up 7.3 million subscribers , there ain´t no 12 million subscribers , there are 12 million wow account created !!! active or not active .

So honestly with this revelation for future MMO games , 1 Million subscribers is the target mark for a tripple A MMO .

And Rift probaly only needs 300k to be successfull . anything above that is a huge profit margin .

But basically timing is correct march is the time usually people get bored of a expansion .

Honestly after 8 hour playing , Rift is exactly like wow , just beter cause its more character based .

Instead of epic base , infact Rift is what WoW classic was , or WoW should have returned to it .

I really hope this game succeed , then simply put shove it blizzard , people are not wanting be dumb and cookie cutters .

They want to have fun . Anyway 2011 already showing up to be more promising then last 2 years of mmorpg.

Blizzard isn't lying about their numbers. Their latest financial report said they had 12 million active subscribers.

Lying in financial reports is a good way to get your company shut down. They're not that stupid.

The reason they only sold 4.7 million copies of Cata is because there's about 2.5 million players in the U.S. and 2.5 in Europe.

The other 7 million is in China and since Cata isn't released there yet, they can't buy it yet.

    Collector's editions are scams.

I may be sick of WoW, but I will never deny how amazing it's been holding up. Especially that far into cloud 9.

  • Its pretty clear what they are saying and what they are not saying. If you misunderstood and think that is bad management or whatever, well your own fault ain't it? Chances are no matter what or how they did it, this thread would still be here, with people complaining. Companies can never win, there is always an agenda, always a way to make them look bad. Not necessarily wrong but so god damn predictable and naive by the community.

/ million in china dream on please , china works on a pay per hour system and grind in game gold to extend your game time.

Honestly if you are looking for hardcore gamers they should be korea .

You going to say with a population of 10 million hardcore gamers in korea , cataclysme didn´t sell more then 4.7 million world wide . and the hardcore chinese play on Taiwanese servers ... cause they get updated ontime and can compete for world first  with 1 -2 days delay .

Anyway go read back what they stated about accounts and subscribers ... if a person makes 200 accounts in china since its free there , and logs in once every 30 days , it counts as 200 subscribers ?

Gee get real sorry world wide sales without china should have shown real numbers , now you can be deluded but guess what , i rather believe 1 million account created (since enough beta idiots made 2-5 accounts trying to get into beta)

They didn´t say 1 million subscribers , what i can say even on high server in rift currently in europe feels like FULL servers in wow .

But truth is I do believe 1 million account created , warhammer sold 1 million boxes and that game had a major IP

Truth be told enough people willing to throw money out of the window for something new .

We just have to see the 6 month term how many real subscribers they are .

But the wow 12 million bubble has been bursted .  and please link me the financiel report of 2010 that they had 12 million subscribers (and not accounts)

It´s funny how most mmo players are wishing for pretty much every single game to fail and crash just to be able to point and laugh.

I hope Rift is successful even tho i do not plan to play at this point.

    Rawr.

The financial report was released in 2011. You're welcome to look it up yourself if you're that concerned, I'm not.

And as far as China goes, 7 million players is peanuts, China has a population of 1.3 billion.

WoW is likely not even the most played game there. I think Three Kingdoms has millions more.

    Collector's editions are scams.
