Thats right folks finally we have this game that will finally take down EQ. After all these years of so called EQ killer will finally arrive this holiday season.
Seen posts like this a million times.
Let me look into my Crystal Ball.
Nope EQ will do just fine.
Hint hint it didn't.
I am not saying it will or won't, but just don't pretend that you do.
Would of been better off changing EQ to Hello Kitty Online :S
As for the OP being a troll maybe so but there is people out there who truly believe it will kill "X" game
When people say kill I don't think they mean make the game shut down I believe they really mean serverly cripple its subscription base, by that definition WoW did "Kill" basically every MMO out there. It did that because it was simple better than everything out there(To the majority of people).
2010 and on seems to be a great time for MMOs, With TOR and GW2 coming up you have more varity. Instead of one polished MMO you get a huge 2.
Maybe TOR and GW2 would kill wow's player base or put a dent in it. But it would have to be both combined. WoW does have a loyal fanbase I think most WoW players will play TOR and GW2 for a while and soon as Blizz add something to WoW they will jump back. RIFT is a prime example here.

What does it even matter? There will still be people who will continue to enjoy and play WoW and SWTOR, and perhaps even some that will play both. No doubt that SWTOR will attract a lot of old and new players alike, but we all know WoW isn't going anywhere soon.
Except that apart from bugs, long queue lines and server instability brought on by people overwhelming their servers at launch, Blizzard has ALWAYS offered that level of polish. Vanilla WoW offered a huge step up from EQ at the time. It was also fun and engaging enough to bring new players into the market who otherwise would have skipped MMOs altogether. (...)

did you just say WoW never had probs with lag, bugs, long queues and server stability?
did you actually PLAY WoW vanilla?
* bugs on mining which forced you to relog
* 10 mins lag during the first weeks in starting zones
* server crashes on every major raid day
* 15 mins queue during the launch phase of the game
and yes, that was vanilla was like. i actually was there
there never was an mmo that came out bug free or without problems, and most likely it will take a really long time before the might be one.... or not.
No... not 15 mins... I used to wait for over 30 mins to get logged on my server on EVERY launch... On vanilla I waited for hours to get logged sometimes (when it was few months after the launch), lag was huge... Sometimes I couldn't move properly how laggy it was, but thankfully we didn't have the fortune of server crashes on every major raid day, it was usually only on Wed.. Vanilla WoW was catastrophy for first year or so... but it was still better than any other expansion...

Whatever your smoking send me some. WoW killer, no. It will take a chunk outta their subscriptions, but take it down.... However Rift may go down. Just got an E-mail from Trion saying it's on sale now for 50% off the normal price. It's $4.99, come on, just go FtP and get it over with.
Wow is all but at the end of its cycle. With all the clones and the new mmorpgs that are coming out, Wow will peacefully fade away. Maybe Blizzard will realease Starcfraft mmorpg. I cant wait for the new star wars and to one day get a decent rig so i can gw2

WoW had offers like that aswell... Tho not in the first year after the launch .... It just as well might be they have enough subscriptions to make profit of and can afford such sale with 50% off to get new players... Sale doesn't mean the game will go down....

If you can run GW1 you will be able to play GW2... Atleast that's what they said...

I don't think it will kill off WoW, but will take many subs away from it however not enough for Blizzard to pull the plug on it. Bioware has the correct formula take content that many care about or are very interested in and create a good story around it and have a good amount of detail and high quality game world wrapped around it. The deciding factor though if they can push the social networking aspects like Blizzard did with WoW. Back in Vanilla WoW I think the 40 man raids really hooked alot of people not due to the raids or the content itself but forcing players to work with others creating friendships and a social experience outlet for many.
I truly do hate these kinds of threads, these WoW killer threads. Regardless of the game they are raving for I hate them. WoW will likely die a death of a thousand cuts...so to speak. Rift took about 600k from WoW, others will take still more until WoW is no longer the giant that it is, even then it may not die unless Blizzard kills it because they aren't drawing in the kind of money they have become accustomed to. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they shut WoW down when they get ready to release Titan, even if Titan turns out to be a very different kind of MMO. But that's still a few years away I would imagine.
the same folk that make DAoC, y'know the game that to this day, if you want to switch your toon that is on another server of the same cluster (meaning the same server) you have to actually log out and re-log back into the game.
This kind of fundamental game design has never been fixed nor addressed in 10 years.
Looking at that, then looking at it's record of huge hits becoming huge flops because of it's lack of development and customer service investment = it doesn't have an ice cube's chance in hell to come close to WoW...but it will do one thing for the first 6 months.....take a good chunk of WoW's gold farmers. Kudos for them!
Sorry mate, only WoW will kill WoW. And I don't like that game (I don't hate it either it's just that I tried it and I didn't like it, this simple), but... I am realistic.
"Also people need to face reality and accept that sci-fi (no matter how big the ip) will never have the universal following as fantasy."
Sci fi has a bigger folloing than fantasy.
I ask you, Where is the Fantasy channel?
it doesnt need it's own channel, because it isn't a niche? Pretty sure things like Merlin weren't looking to air on their own channel. Or any vampire show, etc for that matter. fantasy has a much, much larger following than sci fi

Star Wars is simple one of the most popular movies series in the world if the most popular.

You said it yourself. Fantasy is niche.
Comic books- Superman , Spiderman, x men , the hulk- all Sci fi.
Tv shows- Star trek, Heroes, Lost , Battlestar Galactica - all Sci fi.
Movies- Star Wars, terminator, star trek movies, superhero movies - All Sci fi.
Sci fi is mainstream. Fantasy is niche.
Beyond WOW, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, most attempts to bring Fantasy mainstream have failed miserably.
A couple of recent fantasy success' does not translate into more fantasy fans than Sci Fi.
Have a sense of humor, no need to get ALL MODDY ! A Simpson's quote shouldn't be worth a warning. You are lucky anyone is bothering to read this rag.
It just leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth when people start talking about taking any game down.
No one i staking wow down. Just like nothing took Everquest down. My, how short the memories are.
Things run their course, that's it. That's how it works people.
how many of you are clamoring for the old vaudeville acts? "Doutbt many if any on this site". Yet Vaudeville is very much dead.
Or the old Borscht Belt comedians?
It's just silliness.
Everything has its life span. WoW is not going to vanish just like Everquest hasn't vanished.
And here's an idea, no one has played SWToR over a long period of time and can really commnent on how the game stands up over the course of a character and even continuing on after that character is maxed out.
Will SWToR gather lots of box sales? You betcha, starting with me. But that doesn't mean any of us are going to stay with it for the long haul. That all remains to be seen.
I just can't wait for all the "I'm going back to WoW" posts because SWToR wasn't WoW 2.0. *shivers*

it wont kill wow, it may lessen its numbers. but i do think it will be easily the most sucsessful western mmo after wow.
it may even match or surpass wow's numbers at one point but even then i wouldnt consider wow "killed".

Looks like TOR has a guaranteed 8m subs.
Y'know, ToR could someday surpass WoW, and I still wouldn't say it's a better game. I've yet to see any "Daigo" potential from ToR.
