People are so focused on WoW coming down that they aren't trying to find a solution. Solution? Find a game you like that isn't WoW. If you bash WoW to someone who has no idea what it is, they will ( Like a moth,) fly to the game and check it out therefore opening a whole new door of opportunities (AKA. they like it and play, or they don't like it and stop.) My point is bashing wow is getting old, suck it up and deal with it. Over 6 years I have heard the prophecies of the great WoW killer, and everytime the fortold stories were shot down, just like how Harold Camping predicted the end of the world in May of 2011. Well rather than predicting or assuming a final stand or a rival, just deal with it and find something else to play. There are thousands of MMORPGs on the market, if you can't find one that you like, then that probably means that MMORPGs are not for you.
I just don't see TOR holding the subs for years like WoW has. Once you have leveled a few toons and the VO gets old what do you really have there? An end game that is going to end up just like WoW's. Do you really care about the VO when it is your 15th time running the same instance?
Tor will bring new people in to the MMO market. Mostly SW fans that have only played games like KoToR and Force Unleashed. Once they level and get to end game how many will stay for the repetition and grind? The point that everyone seems to ignore when talking about BW games is that up until now the game ended when the story line did.
only the freakin americans shit on theyr pants for that game. Europe, Asia dont care the slightest.
Amerika=Fanboys nr.1 of Star Wars
As european, for me, the game doesnt interest me even 1%, and ive been playing mmorpgs for 10 years.
Beating WoW with 12 Million players is like saying: i can make a perpetum mobile.
For some reason i do not think this is true and more connected to an overnationalistic imagination on the present state of things.
<i understand , but Star wars was originally given birth in the U. Staates. Europe and Asia hear much later from it.
The movies are well known (after 6 movies) but this game here is not, nore it will attract masses here. (europe)
Maybe there are found around 80k players in the first few months, but it will decrease to 10-15k.
The game doesnt have any good reputation anyway. Read the comments and u can tell by far that fanboys are buying it. Guys like me whos not grown with that genre or have any affinity (even though i like all movies) will not buy it. And thats the majority of the mmo-gamers.
They need to brainwash the mass with alot of advertising. But even then i wouldnt buy it.
Thats right folks finally we have this game that will finally take down world of warcraft. After all these years of so called wow killer will finally arrive this holiday season.
Heh , let's see if they won't suffer the same fate as STO. If they manage to keep at least 60% of their player base within 2 months , they're heading somewhere. But to be a WoW killer? Put 2 games side by side , they ressemble alot. So ToR has lightsabres and ewoks ... did they even put ewoks in the game? Anyways ,SW : ToR won't be a WoW killer. Sorry to dissapoint.
I'll agree SW : ToR will be a nice change from seeing some freaking elves and dwarfs , but I am hoping that they worked more on the game then on the Collector's edition box set ... seriously !
Dont forget guys that there is a rabid frenzy pre orders already occuring, wow killer is wow's subscription is being threatened for the first time in years. Keep those frenzy pre orders coming between now and the day when its released.
Pre orders for SWTOR is phenomenal.
Guys this isnt just ANY pre orders from previous other mmorpg tities ever.
preorders mean nothing but interest. Intense interest, but interest.
It has nothing to do with longevity. Look at Warhammer there.
Why is this a difficult concept?
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."

I live in Europe too and I can safely say that Star Wars has been hugely popular here too.
Will it get as much players as WoW? I very much doubt that, 11 million gamers is a gigantic amount by any standard.
I'm going to hold you to that 80k players though, cause it sounds like utter bs to me. You'd have to be completely out of touch with MMO gaming to think that SWTOR would sell any less than WAR, Aion or AoC did.
A million and more sales should be easily achievable and sounds more realistic.

I can agree MMO vets are not going to be getting this, or getting it just to kill sometime. But any claims this is regional based and Americans are a bunch of brainwashed consumers while europeans are some enlightened gamers is just flag waving bullshit plain and simple.
So no EU players at Launch. Gonna be kinda hard to beat wow if BW does that.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
this game won't take down WOW. EA is forcing people to use origins to play it, which is going to hurt the game. beside we don't need a game it is WOW with starwars theme. anyways enjoy yout StarWOW
The frenzied pre orders of swtor resulted in this thread, I think i have the balls to actually make claims of SWTOR threatened WOW' subscribers base players of 11.4 million.
I think, this is just my opinion that SWTOR can outpace out subscribe world of warcraft , im not trying to say swtor can kill wow.
What im referring to is FROM YOUR point of view will SWTOR outsubscribe world of warcraft? Even with frenzied pre orders, and major positive previews from word of mouth.
Guys i want your thoughts can SWTOR outsubscribe world of warcraft in the long term?
Will your family try out swtor? Will SWTOR name alone can out subscribe world of warcraft and become the 2nd major competitor next to wow?
I dont consider gw2 an mmo its just buy to play they dont collect monthly subscribers. So yes you can spend the one time box fee for gw2 and thats it.
Also do you think it will sell as much as wow cataclysm sales level even with all these frenzy pre orders????
What are some of your thoughts or mainpoints for swtor to stand up to wow in terms of subscribers?
Perhaps if they can manage to retain those pre order subscribers after 30 days and keep on growing?

No.
EU community is blocked from pre-ordering the game and as a result there are quite a few pissed off people right now.
Rift also had a frenzy on pre orders and it fizzled out in the end.

In order to take down WoW you need to dominate the Asian market nto to mention grab a sizeable amount of subscribers everywhere else. It seems The Old Republic is selling like hotcakes now so who knows ? Only time will tell.

Pre-orders don't mean anything, because all that matters is how manya ctually stay after the included month and then the month after etc. Rift sold a ton of boxes but now? the game is like a ghost town. I'd love to try sw:tor but yeah, no beta invite and everyone is to chicken shit to let me try it on theirs XD. I just describe the game how it looks to me, and it looks like nothing more than a wow clone to me from what I have seen and heard, i'll think this way till I try it for myself.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
From what I read about that thread Europe seems to be included:
To all of our fans outside of North America and Europe:
Today we've announced the pre-order details for the initial launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic. BioWare and LucasArts are completely focused on building an exceptional game and an exceptional game service to go with it. Unfortunately, to achieve the goal of an exceptional game service certain territories could not be serviced at launch. This decision was undertaken with a quality player experience as the primary goal.
We are humbled by that level of excitement and anticipation around the world for The Old Republic. As soon as we have more information about additional launches in more territories, we’ll let you know.
We are committed to delivering Star Wars: The Old Republic to BioWare and Star Wars fans around the world, and to growing a truly global community.
Maybe it's european countries outside the EU? What countries are missing then? Because iirc it isn't UK or France or Germany or Spain or so.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
How can they take it down when they are excluding half the world?
That just shows how awesome they are. They only need a dozen countries to beat World of Warcraft.
I can't believe they restrict even digital sales. The last time I ever had to put so much effort into purchasing a game was to pre-order Guild Wars 1, that was in 2005, digital sales were pretty much a legend.
It won't stop people from getting the game and playing on day one, it just means we'll have to pay an additional 50%~200% due to international shipping/taxes.
