Such as Heaven, Hell, Limbo, ThereOrleans, ect... I mean some pretty nice stuff. But alot of big projects in There are funded by donations because putting on a project like ThereOrleans will have a pretty big price tag on it. But that does not stop members from making There what it is today!

Please explain in detail on this. Why does it cost money? In game money or real money like U.S. currency for example. Plz do not reffer to There money as real money plz.

I am talking about Tbucks which is our in world currency. I talked about how people trade in Tbucks for US dollors also in this thread. I believe the ThereOrleans project cost 1.5 Million Tbucks. Thats around 950 dollors if you'd cash it in.

People donate Tbucks to projects like this. ThereOrleans was closed down for sevral months but was then bought by the company. This is a real big step in the future of MMORPGs I believe. Its an intresting concept to me at least.

I have tried a mmo like 'there' I tried oz. It was nice...For 2 seconds most of it just boost internet relationships something I do not support in any way. It's nothing against the game itself it's more of the attitude that goes with it. If you are unable to get a boyfriend or a girlfriend in real life then deal with it I find it to be much sadder if a person actually joins a mmo like this for the "E-Lovin".  So to really sum it up I dislike games such as 'there', oz, and second life because of how they promote internet relationships.

That's a bit harsh while I myself have no interest in games such as those I do not bash those who play them only if they have sense to understand that is it a game and not a new life. The people that I find utterly disgusting are those who choose to completely put themselves in the game with a e-lover. That is just sad.

Joel seriously you are so incredibly annoying , you make one of these ''There'' threads like every other fucking day. No one cares , the first thread on it outve the 50 you made was enough to inform us about the game , just stfu already. All you do is post about ''There'' its seriously starting to get incredibly annoying.

Ok i'll tell you why I think many people on this forums won't find THERE or any game like it entertaining. When I, along with probably over 80% of the MMORPG community play games it's to have fun, not to replace our real lives. What games like THERE try to do is replace your real life with a fake one. If you ask me you must be a real loner or have extremely bad social skills if you need to start a new "life" on cyber space. If you have a bad social life and are a loner in need of friends but are unable to get any in real life then go right ahead and play THERE but if you are like me you won't need to, I understand that most of the time MMORPG players are considered geeks with no life and sometimes it's true but i doubt very many of them are looking to replace there lives.

No one that frequents this site needs to be pointing fingers saying you have bad social skills. I'm sure your social life is so vibrant LordMagnus that's why your posting here? You oughtta be ashamed of yourself calling the guy basically a loser because he likes the game There. Read what you said. People like you make me sick. You can't for one minute be a human being and treat the guy with a little respect? At least he is standing up for something he likes, all your doing is crapping all over him.

    Nice social skills.

Oh so I guess that just because I visit this site when I have some free time it means that I have no social skills? I rarely ever post on message board forums for this exact reason. I have been a member of this site since 2003 and I just recently started posting, I can guarantee you that I have more of a life than mister Joel over there who has to resort to having an online girlfriend instead of going out and getting a real girlfriend.

No, the way you treated Joel, a guy who is only standing up for the game he loves, shows me you have no social skills. Also, your need to bring up the fact that he met someone online tells me this. It also tells me your not a very nice person.

I was addicted to Second Life for a long time, and it was actually fun. I liked building things and messing around with stuff. Then it got boring. I found out, the only fun thing to do was just to piss everyone off, make tons of particle fx fires and place them everywhere, and make nukes to blow people out of clubs. Then those alternate reality games get fun. Blowing people like Joel off the map is where the real treasure of those games lie. I think somebody needs to get laid.

There are a lot of people on these boards that have a very narrow minded view of what a MMORPG is. There and Second Life are at the very extremes of the 'genre' with MORPG's like Guild Wars and D2 at the other extreme. Most MMORPG's fall somewhere in the middle.

As to why they are criticised so heavily, MMO's tend to generate a huge amount of fanboi-ism and anything that dares to be different (or dares to take subscribers away, or dares to change the genre in some way) get lambasted by those seeking to maintain the status quo (because it's what they are used to).

I personally found SL to be too limiting, I wanted the ability to import my Maya models into it rather than struggling with an unintuitive boolean based modeller, and a quick email to the devs confirmed that they had no plans for an importer. It also had abysmal lag, rendering it almost unplayable for me.

I have good news for you, since There uses Gmax to build and submit objects you could import them. Yes I know many hard core members see There as a joke. When I found the website I thought it was a some what stupid idea too. But when I signed up it became addicting.

I went exploring and found all these things which told of an ancient history. I still have not finished finding all which there is to be found. I have found that why people stay in There is not for the features but for the friends. I have met over 550 or more and I don't regret it.

The community has bonded so much that in our darkest hours we have supported each other. Durning black friday when we thought the company was closing many of us shed tears. The people you meet and the experiences you have are so life changing.

I seem very passionate about There and I am. When I was down in the dumps my friends lifted me up and showed me it was not the end. I am greatful I have had the chance to be in There for a whole year and see the things that I have seen. Its a life changing expience. It truely is...

Holy crap dude, you cried when the game almost cancelled?? get a life

2)The people you meet and the experiences you have are like changing.

DUDE! its a game!! how is a game life changing?? i love prince of persia but that doesnt mean it chaged my life!!

3)Its a life changing experience. It really is...

    .................ITS A GAME!!!!!

I just showed someone from this thread around There. No its not the guy defending me, but thanks. It hurts me the things some of you are saying. I'm sorry I seem like a troll to you, but I was just trying to have a conversation.

If your going to be that rude or nasty warn me before I read your post. No I was not ignoring the two who were civil. I read the posts and then showed this guy around There. I'm human just like you and I need some fun in my life. There is how I get my fun.

I have a job and a life. I have many friends in real life as well. I like going to clubs in and out of There. So you see I have a life. I really do thank those who were civil and kind to me. It takes some guts to stand up to a crowd of kids like these people.

I am so glad I got the chance to show someone how wonderful There is. He loved how the buildings and member created items had so much detail and color. He loved the fact that I took him in a ship around some of the islands. I wish I could do the same for some of you. Sorry you lost your chance.
