End game has alot to do . They have a whole planet for solo game pve, U will have to finish your class story , they have max level dificutly flashpoints, they have raids, they have warzones, and they have open world pvp on all servers including a planet that is open world pvp

they have 11 planets that will be nutreal and players will fight in open world pvp over them.

no pvp wont kill tor the pve game with story and choice and 8 unique class stories with over 200 hrs of gameplay by themselves as well as planetary storie arcs will give players solo or group oriented plenty to do.

That is why they wont bleed the subs people think . the gw 2 people who hate tor will continue to spew there crap and lie infused crap but i n the end i think tor, and gw 2 will be be a huge success.

Oh if u mean combat is similar to other mmos yes maybe it is havent played it cant tell u, maybe pvp is similar to other mmos, even end game is the same and the trees.

the diffrence is how they present that gameplay to u and story is a huge change to how its presented to u.

People flock to the newest fps games on consoles all the time even though the mechanics are the same in every single one of them so the facxt is people will play a game if its fun even if it does have similar features to other games.

I doubt it will be anywhere near as successfull as WoW, but it might beat Rift quite handsomely. But since Rift has only been around for 6 months, who knows? It's easier to "fail" than to "succeed" in the long run. But then again, once you made a profit you can't really call it a failure anymore can you? Or do all games eventually fail because nobody plays them anymore?

Your question is far from clear cut.

    Edit: Typo

who knows really wow is good sure but this game has its fans and it can be good as wow and success but to point it out it can be out for along time look at everquest 2 or everquest. everquest came out before wow even came out so that game been around for along time wow has not been out longer then everquest games. so it depends if the game succes or not if it does it can have that hold on like everquest does just add more content keep the players playing and people still play everquest 1 2, and it still around it depends on whos playing i am sure the fans will stick to this game because every game has fans. like every other game.

is this game going to be a success? yes.

they only need 500k subscribers to make up their investment, and start turning a profit. therefore, successful.

is this going to be the end all be all of mmos? probably not, though with the Star Wars IP and fan-base, this game could have millions of subscribers.. which im sure EA would appreciate.

i have my preorder down, and ill play it until im done.. that could be a few months or a few years... I never played wow, or rift. I played EQ a long time ago for a few months but moved on to other things. The longest played mmo for me was ff11 and that was 4-5years.. so for me personally, i wont have very much "THIS IS A WOW/EQ/RIFT CLONE!!" overlap. I guess thats what makes me most excited to play :D

keep semantics in mind. "a success" only means that the game turns a profit. and im sure thats all EA and bioware care about. what review sites, forums users and gamers who prefer other games think arnt going to be important.

to paraphrase TotalBiscuit: "stop whining on the internet and youll have more time to play the games you want to play."

there already predictiing tor bleeds half the subs in 3 months what u talking bout.

im gonna play until i at least get all 8 classes to max level so im not going anywhere for a while.

sorry if tor is anywhere near as good as dragon age and mass effect im in for good.

im so hooked on dragon age 2 right now. i find myself looking up to talk to gf and ive lost 2 hrs just doing quest and making choices and im loving it.

the story and choice is like nothing ive ever played anywhere in an mmo and adding that to an mmo makes me drool

It will sell in large numbers at launch but I doubt it will have many subscribers after month three. I expect to see server merges by this time next year. Much has been made of the story telling aspect of the game but this will also be its undoing. Once you have played a story on each of the two sides, there isn't much to keep anyone around in the long term. It should have been released as KotOR 3. It's closer to that than a traditional mmorpg.

Traditionally in the mmorpg industry, you see subs drop to 30% of initial box sales within 3 months of release.  That is the normal case.  So saying 1/2 in 6 months is doing better than that.

I think the strength of negative reaction on sites like this tend to be a good barometer for success.

People here hate WoW, wow makes more then most of the other mmos combined.

People trash this game to the ground, so it will probably be very popular.

How does changing the name to KoTOR 3 make any difference?  And as for your "traditional mmorpg" statement, you do realize that KoTOR was a RPG, so making it massive and multiplayer makes this game a full MMORPG.  I'm not even sure now what you were trying to say, but you destroyed it with those last two sentences.

SWTOR is a story driven rpg just like the KotOR series and would have been the natural successor. As a mmorpg, it's a lightweight.

OFC is going to be a success.

Some SW fans will love just for the fact of beeing playing a RPG like SWTOR is going to be.

SWTOR will be an epic success! It might not get 11million subscribers as WoW claims to have ( i doubt it) but it will be an ejoyable game to play FOR SURE!. With a fanbase legion.

It won´t be the super revolution of the gender like GW2 looks like....but it will offer a very polished gameplay that so many players will apreciate & enjoy.

I trully see SWTOR & GW2 beeing the next thing to play....and the best is that i find them totally complementary...i mean...you will be able to play them both to fullfil all your needs as a MMo player...

fast paced innovative gamplay & hell fun PvP! with GW2

and traditional but looking SHARP rpg Mmo with SWTOR

I am excited about both! And if you are not....you must not enjoy video games at all bud!

My only doubt is how Rift will handle of this...I am enjoying Rift since beta and i am trully thankfull to Trion for their amazing & hard work on the game...i mean...you can tell...they are WORKING HARD on that game! Even though i guess that they will loose lots of subscribers at the begining...... they will bring many more back with their amazing constance & patches. Best wishes & my Support for Trion too!!!  ;)

I mean have you seen Rift grow over the past months? How can it be in 1 year? 2 years??

When will we be able to step in the other planes¿? Going inside of Life Plane? or death one?

OMFG i think Trion still have so much to offer and as I´ve seen...

...they are more than able to deliver ^^

WoW wasn't hated before it came out. Your logic is invalid.

Okay, so you are obviously not read up on the game, have no idea of the features or score, not to mention the direction the game is going in.  Not unusual on these forums for some reason.  Thanks for your lack of sharing.

Honestly I hope it does succeed. Bioware never promised revolutionary gameplay. They promised a story-driven mmo based on the Star Wars IP. And from what I played at PAX, they delivered.

Bioware's misfortune is releasing a great game during a time of general collapse (burnout) in the genre.

    Depends on definition of "suceeding".

Will it earn large amounts of money? Yes.

Will it earn back the nearly $1 billion that has been invested into this game? Only time will tell. Personally, I do not think it will.

But thats just my opinion, the opinion of a veteran mmo'er who has 0 interest in ToR.

How did 150 million inflate to a billion?

Either thats hypberole, a joke or misinformation cause i'm not sure how you got from 200M combine general cost to 1Billion

SW:TOR is around 100-150 or there abouts

EA gave about 80M if i recall correctly.

Even if we assume high and swtor cost 200M and EA gave 100M thats still 300M not 1Billion.

So i stand with the first sentance either your not serious or severally misinformed about the cost.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

the "200 hours of gameplay" will be tossed around til the cows come home, some will play straight through and cry due to hitting end game with in a week, thats also counting on them not trying out other parts of the game that contributes to the x amount of hours played...ya,  lulz.

lets star with 200 hrs of gameplay thats class story only. So unless u dont wanna finish your class story u will do that much at least.

Then u have 17 planets with there own stories. u have warzones ,flashpoints u can run from level 8 to 50, end game heroic quests and dailies. a pvp planets, 11 planets with pvp contested zones, u have operations u have hard modes on all the flashpoints. u have a planet dedicated to single players at end gam eand u have 7 more class tories of 200 plus hrs.

Lets get this straight the 200 hrs is the class story and nothing else. They dont count u doing anythng else into that 200 hrs or gameplay just your class story.

Unless you spend large amounts of your gaming time unconscious with your head on your keyboard....

The reason u are so wrong is story. the bo and the choices that matter to your character, the companion system all will keep players and they are all unique and innovative in an mmo.

Im sorry u are wrong with over 200 hrs of unique game play in just class stories , alot of worlds to do world stories on a pve planet at end game with dailies and everthing else it will take players a yr or more to burn through all the content in game already thats not counting updates and new expacs.

the numbers i have listed I was told by a manager of game stop . I am pretty sure he is not exagerating

Games I will be playing are: TES V, SWTOR, ME 3, TSW
