You GW2 fans are so fucking stupid and ignorant it's unbelievable. You go around crying "SWTOR is a WoW clone it got nothing on GW2" what the hell does that make GW2 then?
The only thing that is new with GW2 is the dynamic events and tbh i don't think that's new since WAR had it, and look what happened to that game.
Honey read a bit about GW2....
All quest system is diferent from WoW since...in GW2 there are no quest at all.
No Holy Trinity is a big diference with WoW...dont u think....? Actually that changes all combat system to a very different one.
Weapons with specific skills.....dodge in combat to avoid incoming attacks....learning curve....dinamic combat....scaling difficulty in all areas & events...housing....WvWvW PvP.....no traditional raiding.... no gear grinding to play end content.....Personal Story...Sidekick system.... and yes!, dinamic events in a dinamic, open & persistant world.
If you think GW2 is a WoW clone....you are the ignorant or just trolling...
that shouldn't worry you, after all you've made up quite a few.
Do you realize if this game is as perfect as some of the articles describe this will literally kill WoW one day after release? It is not very hard to list negatives in GW2.
How about one negative? The groups are based on mechanics and can not be carried by a good tank or healer. What happens when you get a bad in a group? In a skill based game you are relying on everyone to have SKILL! This is not as common as some of you think if have ever played basically any game made in creation.
This can backfire because bads will slam the forums with "zomg this Char beat me in pvp NERF NOA or I quit!!"
I understand that you are warning people to not get to excited about a game before it's release but your example is a horrible one. First off, tanks and healers don't carry a group because they don't kill things. In the Holy Trinity, you are required to have each roll or you will not be successful. On challangeing continent, it is even more of a requirement. Good tanks and healers can make it less stressful but a tank and a healer will not take out a boss.
Your example actaully works better in the GW2 scenario. If you have 1 or two less than skilled players assigned to a particular role for a group, the good ones can do more to help out, throwing heals if they need to, providing addtional control, or providing damage. Now I know that GW2 isn't out yet so of this is hearsay but I am willing to give Arenanet the benefit of the doubt because they haven't given us any reason not to.

Nice work trying to get people excited about something that appears to be something worth getting excited about.

What a wonderful example of exactly why the OP wrote the article in the first place. Although I imagne his friends didn't call him stupid or ignorant.
All quest system is diferent from WoW since...in GW2 there are no quest at all.
Actually, that is not entirely true.
Guildwars 2 have a soloquestline as well as the DEs, it is just optional. There are always soloplayers in any game and ANET thought it was best to give them an instanced sologame for themselves.
I had a friend that refused to give GW2 a chance; said it was just like WoW and SWToR would be the greatest MMO to kill WoW, innovate the industry, and have no cash shop or monthly fee. You can see he was an ignorant son of a bitch before i stood behind him with a menacing glare and ordered him to educate himself. You can't go light on ignorance of that magnitude. Stopped hanging out with him after that because he’s one of the people you just cannot educate.
It is best for the industry the MMO throne remains an dusty empty seat never to be filled.

LOL, maybe you should wait with stuff like that until the games actually is out....
The ultimate solution have always been "so you think this game sucks? Go over to my place and well get you a trial account and play some duo".
Of course thinking EA would give away something for free is probably good enough reason to get admited to any asylum.

When you put each game next to each other or compare the Pax videos I can call GW2 more complete. In my view ToR is just missing a ridiculous amount of stuff for release and is the mother of all train wrecks waiting to happen. ToR is to the point right now where I might take the day off work, grab a drink, and just hit F5 on the forums for the LULZ
GW2 it is hard to predict because the fundamentals of the game are a mix of several concepts. Basically Rift took concepts from several games and blended them. Well GW2 is doing the exact same thing, but with other games.

Loke's got the right idea here. If you're friend (or anyone for that matter) is not the least bit interested in the game, then don't force it. Wait for GW2 to come out and then show them what's so great about it... allow them to experience it for themselves. Just don't force a whole bunch of info on them, or that person may grow to dislike it for the wrong reasons.
However it's always good to clear misinformation when you can. The most annoying thing I keep hearing, is people calling GW2 nothing more than an Asian Grindfest (¬_¬).

As a GW fan have I waited on the game since it was announced but let's not get ahead of ourselves yet.
Bioware do have a rather impressive resume and a few crappy demos is not enough to be sure that TOR will be a bad game.
Let's just put the released games against eachother instead.
The reason GW2 looks more complete is BTW because ANET worked in a slightly different way. The GFX engine of GW2 was actually done almost 3 years ago before Strain left to start Undead labs and that is the reason GW2 looked complete already a year ago at GamesCon. Few other MMO devs work that way and it seems like BW is still polishing on their engine.

I am talking fundamentals and concepts here. SWToR could have the best graphics in the world. It will not stop the forums from being lit up with reques for addons, cross server lfg, and queue times on war fronts that approach 3-4 hours at a time.
Here is a MMO fact all devs should know by now. If you take this EQ/WoW approach to building your game, then you need to realize your game needs to work like them for it not to collapse in a moutain of qq. WoW has cross server LFG for a reason. The war fronts are cross server for a reason. That game has dual spec for a reason. You can not simply ignore these reasons.
I can not apply the same logic to GW2 because there is no trinity. Everyone can do everything, so technically anyone can fill any roll.
LOL, maybe you should wait with stuff like that until the games actually is out....

Well Rift took EQ2/WoW/WAR and blended them all together. GW2 is doing things we have seen in other MMO's and blending them. I saw one guy list them all before and it was all games I paid little attention too.

Yes, but it is their aproach to it that is interesting, they don't just "use" the concepts as they are, they analyze it and figure out what is "wrong with the picture" and modify it to be more fun.
So many grand promises. For some the game will live up to it, and for others the game will fail at delivering.
How you understand a message, is not nessesary the same way the author meant it.
To me it all sound a bit too good to be true, so I will wait some months and see what works and what doesnt, and especially the amount of content available is important to me (please dont say "200 hours of storyline" because that can't measure content).

IMO, the article doesn't succeed at it's goal. I'd never show that article to friends I want to interest in the game.
First, the contempt for players who might have doubts about Guild Wars 2 is palpable. Not a good way to entice someone with trepidations about the game.
Second, the article doesn't do much to paint an engaging picture of what the game will be like and why people would want to play it.
Third, the article doesn't explain, or show an understanding of, one of the biggest, mold breaking elements of the game. Dynamic Event Chains. It's underplayed and you even equate it with Rifts and PQs with out showing that the difference between Rifts/PQs and Dynamic Events is about the same as comparing a kid's Big Wheel to a Harley, or an Atari 2600 to an XBox 360!
Fourth, inaccuracies. The summary of PVP is insufficient, but the explaination of World vs. World vs. World PVP is just plain wrong. Your PVE character enters and leaves World vs. World. You are automatically side kicked up to level 80 when you enter World vs. World, but each character has the gear they have aquired through PVE and World vs. World. You earn XP and get loot in World vs. World and your true level advances and you unlock skills and gain attribute and trait points, following the normal leveling process. Sidekicking everyone to level 80 gives players some chance against higher level characters, but the higher level characters do have the advantage of better gear, more unlocked skills, higher attributes and more traits.
As an example, you can get to level 8 in PVE, go from 8 to 12 in World vs. World, go back and go from 12 to 13 in PVE, etc... There will be enough to loot in World vs. World so that players won't have to return to PVE to get gear and currency. People who want to will be able to level up entirely and equip their characters fully in World vs. World. Gear you earn there is still with you when you go back to the PVE section of the world. You don't leave it behind.
Competitive PVP is where your character basically is cloned into an alternate self, with full automatic advancement to level 80, all skills unlocked, full attribute and trait points and normalized, level 80 gear that stays normalized. CPVP is a seperate game with in a game and nothing you do there effects your PVE character and vice versa.
Other problems aside, the article seems much more aimed at readers who have shared the frustration of trying to get friends interested in the game, rather than being a tool to help get those friends interested in the game.
I think I wait with my campaign to get my friends into the game until it actually releases.
With there being no monthly subscription fee, a sale a month or two after release is just as good for ANet as one on release day. Plus, with the sidekicking system, you will always be able to meaningfully adventure with your friends, no matter how far behind they are.
I think Guild Wars 2 will have enough hype and recognition for a very solid launch. However, assuming it's half as good as many hope, it will grow it's player base organically over time. Most MMOs are a flash in the pan. A strong release, maybe a bump up after the first month, but then the growth slows, stops or completely reverses.
The Buy to Play nature of Guild Wars 2 almost guarantees that if it is the game we expect it to be, it will grow and grow over time. How big it will get will depend on how well Arena Net delivers and how well the game play holds up for extended play. On paper, ANet has solved the problem of people blasting through content and then only having end game raids, or a repeat of the same leveling experience with alts, to keep them occupied. If it translates into reality, this game should grow to be quite huge.
Great article! Apparently, its wrong to wait and see how GW2 plays out first or judge it based upon other MMOs on the market instead we should all preorder. I'm totaly convinced....

I guess I'm stupid. I seriously have absolutely no interest in playing another swords/horse/dirt road/castle/rogue/orc/dwarf game. If it isn't Sci-Fi, I have no desire to even look twice at it. Well maybe EQNext but that will be for pure nostalgia sake.
I beta tested Guild Wars and it just didn't have what it took to captivate me. I tried Guild Wars a few months after release and guess what? It wasn't for me.
I'll go hang out in my space ship and dual wield pistols while you go swing a sword, we can both be happy. I'll be in the stupid people line and you can be in the "Everyone needs to agree with me or they are stupid line" otherwise known as the asshole line.
I seriously doubt GW2 will be the cure for MMO cancer that everyone thinks it will be.
Thanks for the article, made me really see the light, no really. I now realize that unless I agree with your point, I'm stupid.
if you love your scifi mmo why even bother posting on here? dosnt make much sense to me..... anywho I like the article but showing people.guild wars 2 through game play demos on YouTube with dev commentary seemed to work.best for my friends as it shows the promises they state :-)
For your information, this article makes me want to play Guild Wars 2 less than I did before. There is no real open world PvP, it is a WvWvW concept with a copied character which you earn rewards on.
I could go on with a few other things but I have something to do, have fun and try not to kill each other.
