I prefer to think of GW2 as a fresh piece of fruit growing in a garden (who knows what size it will be, but will be tasty) wheras SWTOR is a reasonably tasty dried piece of dried fruit, tastes ok,safe, but im still craving something nice to eat.
I like this.
You're neat.
Now I'm hungry...
Long story short, here's my opinion (as if anyone particularly cares):
Guild Wars - Great quality, seems to be quite innovative and fun, meaty combat, great animations, unconventional
TOR - Quite conventional, story driven, atrocious animations, clusterf*ck combat, P2P... I could go on but you get the idea
Such a balanced view....
Whether or not you think my opinion is balanced is irrelevant to me.
I've seen plenty of footage and information on both games, and I see nothing - - absolutely nothing - - that I find even remotely interesting about TOR.
Then why waste time or energy trashing it other than to troll I don't like lots of games and unless I've spent money on them I don't waste time being a negative nancy it's really not a good look on anyone.
I am not trying to defend anybody but he is posting on a forum topic titled GW2 vs. SWTOR. Forums are for posting your opinions on topics and I believe his posts makes complete sense here. Remember it is his opinion, that doesn't make it right. I think people should work on not being "easily offended".
But even without a real answer the point is you have a less than stellar opinion of WOW right now and hence the comparison to TOR and it's just stupid to compare them much like when we were young and our parents would make foolish statements about our music like "it all sounds the same" or they aren't even saying anything".
I think I also touched on this because maybe you guys didn't read the entire thread and see but that isn't even the point of this post which is something we pointed out to the author in the first page by the end of this thread we would only have a bunch of wanna be die hard "innovators" taking the chance to trash one game while praising another when they know next to nothing about either.
We've all seen this before so excuse me for being skeptical of the "informed" opinions of people who tend to praise innovation up until they get the game and realize it sucks fantastically before returning to the forums to wage war against that devs that had the nerve to unleash those steaming piles of podoo onto the community.
ahh wait i Agree, I do praise innovation, and I will debate in a forum when innovations turn out to be ill-formed - such is evolution. I do love and appreciate innovation that truely improves or gaiming experience - you must agree surely TOR aint that though

I mearly replied that i thought WOW was a superb game, as a 200x game. Im trashing nothing, read my last post. everything does not need to be simple black and white you know.
innovation is a good thing when done with good intentions.
Oh I guess you didn't mention TOR at all I'm so sorry I'm wrong.......
I did mention TOR, huh?
There we go, thats a qoute from me a few posts back

Wow, this thread still goin? I'm not sure why you would compare a Science Fiction MMO to a Fantasy MMO. I think both GW2 and SWTOR will be good so it comes down to a matter of preference. They differ in graphic art style but both will have a storyline for your character. If ya can't decide then freakin get both since as I recall GW2 is not going to be subscription based anyways. Play Jedi on Mondays and slay Dragons on Tuesdays.

That's what most sensible gamers are going to do that's what gaming is about some though have agendas that have nothing to do with gaming it seems.

Wednesday, I'm gonna go out on my own and just roll up a Charr Sith Lord. I can already hear all the sighs and eye-rolling, through the internet. I agree with you, though...I'm amazed that this thing is still running with as much steam as it is.
I'll be playing Swtor. I may try GW2 sometime down the road but im kinda burned out on fantasy genre. TSW and are coming down the pike and something to look forward to.
***Raises plunger in salute to Jedi and Sith ladies everywhere!***
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
It's TOR for me simply because I am sick to death of the fantasy genre. I hope to see more sci-fi games in the future and that may well depend on how well TOR does. I really hope it turns out to be a fun and engaging game.

I dunno bout you but I'd rather have the same fantasy genre with a new, fast-paced, active style of combat or a sci-fi genre game with the same style of MMO combat we've seen for years.
I'll play GW2 for sure. If it doesn't end up being one of the best games I've played, then I might just try SWTOR.
dear god. I am mistaken, tor will be much better than gw2 and archage.
Now you're just being coy, why must one be better than the other that's the real question here?
Because rabid fanbois need closure.
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"
I'll be honest with you I stop predicting what MMO will sell better then another. However I will tell you what I think. I think that unless Bioware drops the ball (which could happen I admit that...however think this is unlikely based on what I have heard) KOTOR will be more popular then Guild Wars 2. There to many people lined up to play KOTOR, more players then Guild Wars 2. Don't get me wrong I love what I have seen from Guild Wars 2 but not enough to make me want to play that over KOTOR.
However at the end of the day we won't really know which is better and more popular till it is released.

Yeah, that's definitely what I see happening, from when SW:TOR launches, to this time next year. However if Guild Wars 2 manages to become the game ArenaNet wants it to be then I do see it slowly gaining more popularity. Where friends will be telling their other friends that there's this amazing MMO; and without a subsciption fee to stop them, you'll get more people trying it out, down the line, than you would with SW:TOR.
Also with SW:TOR and it's mass market appeal; you'll still get people like me who'll play it for a couple months, burn through all the content, then never look back. Mostly due to the sub fee.
Buying both. They initially probably won't be in competition for me.
Also, why the fuck do so many write ToR with small O? It's The Old Republic, not The old Republic. That shit just looks weird.
I have a theory on this. The small "o" is used for the word "of" as in World OF Warcraft, which has the acronym "WoW." I think people just got so used to "WoW" that they unintentionallly made TOR ToR. But you are right. It's TOR not ToR.
EDIT:
On topic....it's GW2 for me, but mostly for the reason that I won't now have any friends playing TOR and I'm not a huge Star Wars fan myself. Also....I just really love what I've seen of GW2.

You may be on to something there with the WoW factor. By people throwing the little 'o' in there I think they may be intentionally indicating their belief that SW:TOR is a clone of some sort. As we all know at this point is clearly untrue except for those wars that won't happen for a few thousand years.
Back to the OP - As for me I will be dual wielding these titles since I like certain features from both and let my experience from them over a few months make my final decision which one I will stick with. I'm sure I'll have it all sorted out by summer.
I had planned to buy and play both games, after all GW2 is B2P like BF3 as an example, it wont have the amount of content and PvP that we will find in SWTOR but, it could be fun. Whats gonna happen? at this point im pretty sure that GW2 will be bored after playing swtor. I mean talking about pvp, TOR have, Opvp, RvR (With Bombers, turrets and combat vehicles) and Warzones. Gw2 have, Arenas with just one mode ¨conquest¨ and WvWvW once every 15 days. Still, people gonna buy gw2 but it wont be a competition for swtor.

KOTOR sold just over a million copies, Guildwars 3,5 million separate accounts (some with one of the 3 campaigns, some with all and the expansion, totally over 6 million).
That is several times as many as KOTOR, don't count out GW2 yet. The Guildwars IP have plenty of fans.
This can frankly go any way yet. I myself leans more to GW2 right now but I will try both and play the one I prefer. Hopefully will the best game win (even though I can't say for certain right now which game that is).

I have no idea what you are talking about, GW2 at this point seems like the most content packed game to come in awhile. WvWvW is the same type of pvp that will be experienced in SWTOR's RVR, OPvp, and Warzones will be more like hot joinable pvp. Not to mention you assume that because one pvp map has been revealed, and it was conquest, that all the pvp will be conquest. Not to mention the variety of multiple minigames that play like entirely different games themselves, will be in each city, all of which are unique, not to mention the amount of story content available. A story for each race, for each class, and then multiple options at character creation that make your character's stories completely unique to every character. I honestly have seen a more fleshed out game shown for GW2 in their first demo than I have for every TOR demo shown to date.

I'd call this very subjective, but hey, each MMO gamer has his/her own main preferences and favorite, and entitled to it.

Hmm, I and over 90% of the people in the GW guilds I've been in have all 3 campaigns and the official expansion, so that'd mean that we all count for 3 (or 4?) accounts. Frankly, I think that there has only been about 1.5-2 million actual individual people, and that is a number that accumulated over 6 years, after the first half year after launch iirc the number of GW sales was something like 500-600k units.
That said, I think that both games will do extraordinarily well in their sales, and I intend to play both as well as TSW.

See, this is the kind of thing I don't like to see as a GW2 fan. Not the people who spout how much they hate Fantasy MMOs, so they won't try GW2. No, just the people who spout so much misinformation and allow that misinformation to shape their judgement on the game, similar to this individual saying that GW2 is not a pure MMORPG.
Well the thing about Guild Wars 2 PvP is that it will be so robust that it could be shipped as an entirely seperate game. Especially since it won't be bogged down by the PvE. Also WvWvW occurs persistently and is happening all the time (with server changeovers every 2 weeks). Not just some once every 15 days event that you speak of. Really, there's a wealth of information out there about these games... why don't you all use it.
In my PERSONAL OPINION, Reread that agian PERSONAL OPINION. I will buy TOR and play the game because I love teh genre and Star Wars. Also I have been playing Fantasy MMO's for almost 9 years and got bored of them. I read lots of Fantasy Novels and still Table Top Game but the MMO thing As of Current is just well meh. I know that TOR is leading off of the WoW style game and I am fine with that. I have been apart of the Weekend Beta and I loved every second of it, So I based my PERSONAL OPINION on ME playing the game. NOW! when GW2 comes out you bet your bippy that I will buy that also, fromw what I am seeing it looks to be a good game. I might have to upgrade my PC to handle it due to the graphics and such which could be a big factor for some. But I will buy both and play both like one poster said perfectly.
Play TOR on Mondays, Slay dragons on Tuesdays... and Wed I will make a Sammich and enjoy the fact that I have both games and can play what I want to play when I want to play with out trying to fend off people who think that either games ePeen is better. Just play what you want to play and who cares what the others think, are they the ones who give you permission to spend your money the want they want? Not my money I will buy and play what I want how I want and when I want.
