I'd have to agree with this too, although it didn't hit me right away.
I woudn't want to play a mmo based totally on Barbados Bajan stick licking fighting style, Israeli krav maga fighting styles or a mmo based totally on South American culture.
Having elements of them intermixed with other styles is fine, but this game has oversaturation to the point where it's xenophobic and exclusionary of diversity. I guess that might be the point but it doesn't lend well to an international audience I'd say.
Everyone doesn't want to be Jackie Chan from the 11th century or something so I don't see a huge hit now that you mentioned that.

See, I think here, you have presented a fair, intelligent argument for why having a completely Asian setting is a detriment for you.
As for the red text: I think you're stretching it a bit. But then again, you and me, Westerners would obviously lack half the perspective on the issue, wouldn't we?
"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."
Western MMO's do try for a more something from everywhere when it comes to lore and background. AC's three cultures, AOC's four cultures and the like. If they have a fall back it is medieval Europe. Eastern MMO’s do stick with Asian themes, but I think this is as much down to limited content as it is to design choice.
If I played a lot of Asian MMO’s I would feel as bored of them as medieval Europe MMO’s, but as I don’t I still find the Asian setting fresh and exciting.
But as always wait till it launches before you join, steer clear of beta and check out those reviews first.
No thanks, looks like MMO for teenage boys who are in that phase where everything martial arts is amazing and they want to be like that too. The Asian theme bores me so.
Miracle System - talking with npcs, doing some kind of stuff, killing players, jumping a lot, etc, etc, etc affects the chances of causing random events in the world that once can find - for example, npc might gossip to you about miner walking in the town knowing location of secret cave. So you have to get miner drunk and he will mark the location of newly and randomly generated instance location in the map
NPCs can hold grudges against you, hire assassins, or even offer other players rewards for locating and destroying you if you piss them off. It all depends on the personality of certain npcs. They also might be generous and help in various ways if you form a good relationship with them.
GAME does not feature any refinery of any kind, no +1 +5 +6 etc, NO socketing too.
Weapons and items can have certain stats and abilities depending on how good you are at certain skills(for example cooking).
Character Stats contain strength, karma and social standing
realistic mounts. no dragons or snakes. Just different breeds of horses so far.
Gameplay, questing, etc are focusing on player interaction - you most likely won't even touch the pve stuff for most of time.

I'm surprised at people citing the game's theme and setting as a "con" or a negative.
I guess good ol' prejudice and xenophobia are still very much alive. Sad.
The game looks great; any game that aims to break the current mold gets points, for me.
Ehh? i myself dislike asian themed MMORPGS, what has this got anything to do with prejudice and xenophobic? my brother dislike sci-fi themed MMOS, is he being prejudiced to aliens?
Why do you dislike them? If you dislike something simply because of it's foreign theme, then yes that makes you a xenophobe. Nothing wrong in that. But let's not be stupidly politically correct here. These days people often pass off their prejudices as "preference" but at the end of the day, it is a still a prejudice no matter how people try to pretty it up.
I dislike them because asian theme in MMOS is not my taste? does it mean i dislike Asians in general? i enjoy Jet Lee, Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee movies. I love their culuture, food but only because in MMO settings i dislike Asian theme, it makes me a xenophobic? do you even realise how ridiculous you sound?
Interesting that you took my comment (which was not aimed at solely you) to such heart. Did I touch on a sore spot or what? You that afraid to look like someone who harbours a prejudice?
There we go again, assumptions as usual. Since you generalised (yet again) everyone who dislikes Asian themed MMOS as xenophobic i thought i would step up and tell you that you are wrong and sound really stupid.
I don't know what YOU said; the posts I read said, "can't get into Asian themed MMO" or something of that effect. That clearly marks the person as being close-minded against whatever they're normally used to and suggests a lack of worldly maturity.
It is a matter of tatse. Some people hate sci-fi themed MMOS, other hate fantasy / high fantasy settings and some dislike Asian settings. The only close minded person i see here is you who is trying to make a mountain out of a mole.
Now if they had said, "I can't get into it because Asian MMOs are grindfests and I dislike grinds" - that wouldn't have made them prejudiced.
Your "brother" comparison is inane, and irrelevant and gives me insight to your thought process - which is obviously muddled. Way to inappropriately lighten relevant issues of closet prejudice.
For someone who brought xenophobe and prejudiced into personal taste, you really shouldn't call my thought process 'muddled'. And no it was an appropriate example just to show you how ridiculous this whole thing is.
Sci-fi is incidentally not my thing, but I know that EvE is a great game. I would love to play it. And I don't think it's a "con" that it is sci-fi themed. Which was the point of my original post that you jumped upon. You probably won't understand it, but if you have an aiota of comprehension skills, you will see what I am saying.
Yes i see exactly what you are trying to do here. And you give yourself far too much credit when it comes to comprehension skills and intelligent discussion. Because i have seen none from you. Only generalisation and lots of name calling and back handed personal attacks. Your posting history is proof of that.
But then again, i haven't read a post form you which is not full of over reactions and hyperbolas.
It is "hyperbole" not "hyperbola". The latter is a type of curve on a plane.
Also, please point out whatever post I have made that is a "hyperbola". Just because I don't fawn over a generic, uninspired, last-generation game like SWTOR doesn't make my posts an exaggeration.
I don't know how you assumed i was talking about SWTOR? but yes you do indulge in hyperbole and generalisation a lot. You really want me to start quoting your posting history here?
The game doesn't look "last gen" for sure. But i must admit the features presented are great. And the other videos are also good, playing go in a minigame humm i could be tempted.
GPot and PWI have never gotten any money out of me, while some of the western based freemium games have soaked me for plenty, never mind the sub games that I bought the box for, then walked away after less than a month, making my monthly MMO investment well over $15. Way, way over.
The fact is, GPotato, PWI, and the other free to play offerings from asia don't know how to get me to open my wallet. They just don't offer me anything I want in a way that makes me want to buy it instead of just going off to play another game. If they ever figure it out, good for them. It's going to take a helluva good game to get me to part with any more money after these past few months of MMO hopping.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
First thing that turned me of about this game... gPotato's logo within the first 5 seconds of the trailer..
8 different classes? Nope, sorry, sounds like Allods.
Professions...
"Your character becomes an NPC while you are offline." HUH???
I don't know, theres something funny about this game. It could be gPotato, so the chance of a cash shop is very high. The graphics look cool and the music was pretty badass, but theres something not right about this game. Notice the trailer didn't say whether it was going to be P2P or F2P..
For all the xenophobe hunters, here is the one and only thing I despise about asian MMOs:
Most of them feature males in realistic armor, but the females are all half naked and wearing six inch spiked heels. Ever tried to fight in six inch heels? Or run? Or even walk worth a damn? No? Neither have I, because everyone knows perfectly well it would be stupid to even try.
Western 'artists' are also guilty of this porn doll female avatar idiocy, and I hate it when I see it from any developer of any race, creed, nationality, sexual orientation, or what have you. It's fine if you want your casters half naked, but a close in fighter, male or female, needs armor, and if the males aren't running around like Conan, the females shouldn't look like Princess Leia in that Jabba the Hutt scene. Asian game developers are especially guilty of this.
In fact, going by the trailer, that may not be an issue in this MMO. The girl in the silly pink dress moves great, I'd love to know which fighting style she's based on, she reminds me of my favorite Tekken character, also a female character. Bonus if we can dye our gear so there's no danger of my kickass avatar roaming around wearing pink!
Edit: Social clothing is a different story, go nuts.
I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.
Not sure about the tradition Chinese culture - Dynasty Warriors is more traditional in that it is based on 'The Water Margin'. In fact, I'd classify 'Journey To The West' as traditional, but especially 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms'. More literary tastes include my favourite 'The Dream of The Red Chamber' and 'The Romance of The Western Chamber'.
Thanks Teala. I'll keep an eye on this as I much prefer Chinese visual style to Korean or Japanese (although Japanese women for the win).
P.s. The characters look far too Westernised! (like my women, must be Asian )
"If you think I'm plucky and scrappy and all I need is love, you're in way over your head. I don't have a heart of gold or get nice. There are a lot nicer people coming up. We call them losers."
Wow..look at all the cool mini-games inside the game. They are not only fun, but it is a way for your character to learn to increase their skills and attributes by playing them! Now that is cool. The combat looks so fluid and dynamic. Love the skills like water walking and wall climbing. LOL! Game just looks great and sounds fantastic.
Sounds like Naruto in a good way (I happen to like the idea of groups of ninjas with different skill sets and such, but they can all learn tricks and styles).
I kinda wish I could play a Naruto MMORPG (like from an adult ninja's standpoint). You start out with a set of skills then can slowly learn everything your side has to offer. You could specialize and become amazing at a few skills.
Same reason I'm waiting to see what the world of darkness is going to be like.
I don't know about sayiing "finally, an Asian MMORPG that might do well in the US" just for this game. Look up ArcheAge. That seems to me to have more appeal. However, that being said, Age of Wulin could be another surprise from the east. I too am liking what I am seeing with the game. Well, everything except the typical 100s of players running or standing around the starting city all looking exactly the same. Hopefully that changes by launch. I like having multiple starting areas in games, it gives a more "world" aspect.

pros: "your character becomes a NPc when you're offline". that's different. i'm interested.
cons: Architecture and theme is jsut not something I'm interested in.
every wall...you can walk on? well then what's the point of having walls and doors and streets? those things exist for a reason. if we lived in a zero-gravity environment I'm sure our cities would look a lot different.
this one for me its...too outside the box. I can identify myself with spiderman easier than with this.
so if i can walk on water, why would i build a bridge ? I saw a bridge and boats in the video. and walking on water. sigh...
Clearly you do not watch many kung-fu movies. LOL!

man, Kung Fu is still cool at 60 years old too.
It's a game that I'll keep tabs on for sure.

The game wreaks of broken promises. I hope I am wrong.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Huh?
Ok this tickled my interest a little bit. Never have seen a kung-fu mmo done before. Perhaps this needs to be investigated further. Thanks OP!
The game has no classes.....
You never tried out Fung Wan Online? Heh, was a trip of a game.
There was even a HKA movie The Storm Riders (which the game was based off of the comics of).
FWO is defunct though...
I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?
Explorer: 87%, Killer: 67%, Achiever: 27%, Socializer: 20%
Nope never played FWO! Too busy playing Guild Wars at the time.
Doesnt look bad but is way to asain for me////
Already looks archaic to me.
This looks like a pretty cool game.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
All i saw was aerobatics, some silly combat animations and a ton of "promises", which i can already see failing miserably.
And not to mention Gpotato... whats tater precious, whats taters eh?
