seeing people say shit like "just because its been done before its gonna suck" really annoys the hell out of me.
talk as if it has stuff no ones ever seen or thought of before it'll be the best thing in the world. instead of just talking down upcoming games, why dont you list these things that have never been done before that'll make games allmighty so word can get out to some developer that might want to put it in their new game if its as great as you say.
a GOOD game is going to be a GOOD game. Look at Zelda. How many Zelda games have their been? They're all pretty much the same game. Admittedly the quality (in my opinion) has been fluctuating from not so good to decent since Ocarina of Time, but still they're all for the most part pretty good games. Each new game adds maybe 1 or 2 new concepts but they don't detract from the core of all Zelda games, that stays the same.
It's the same for MMOs, they dont have to detract from the core of what MMOs are, hell they don't even really need to add a new concept or three though that is an obvious plus(so long as they're well made and make sense) to be a good MMO. Blame devs rushing through publication/ideas not the fact that nothing ever changes.
I did think before I posted. And Diablo is not an RPG game, just like Orcs vs. Humans wasn't an RPG game. The POINT was innovation in RPG games, of which Blizzard has zero, save for WoW.
Yes but Blizzard's one has made history. It has dominated this genre. It has changed the way MMORPG's are seen. Good or Bad. No matter what BW has done up to this point it has never changed an entire genre of gaming. Yes BW has made some great games. I cant argue that but to discount Blizzard because they only made one RPG (WoW) is like saying "Hey I know you broke all kinds of records and changed the mmorpg industry but you only did it once. "

How you could say Diablo is not an RPG is beyond me. Have you ever seen the game? Just because the word action is in front of the acronym, does not negate the rest which is RPG.
Plenty of innovation in the Diablo series. I'm not defending any game company, but a definition. Look it up.
We just think of the definition differently man. I don't see Diablo as an RPG, because an RPG to me is somewhat of a life simulation game.
Either way, it doesn't really matter right now.
I saw Panda cuddlys in Warcraft's next expansion and laughed. I was considering playing WoW again until SWTOR came out, but I just...I can't do pandas man, I was VERY hesitant in playing the game to begin with because of the cartoon graphics. Now I am glad I quit for good lol.

I'm pretty sure that the first Diablo was a straight up RPG. Diablo 2 was a much diffierent game if I'm not mistaken, but still an RPG.

I agree and even if what people are asking for comes true and Blizzard repeates its success with another MMO then other companies better pack their bags as if one WOW wasn't enough and to wish for another 12 million sub golliath from Blizzard. There is only so many subs left after two MMOS of Blizzard suck everything.

I'm calling shenanigans.
You weren't going to play it until ToR came out, your just trying to validate your complaint about, of all things, pandas in a game.
ToR will be out long before the expansion; so you'd be playing Cat WoW and the xpac wouldn't have anything to do with the experience you'd have until ToR released.

Well said, very well said.
The point is, Blizzard is great at making games fun and addicting, but they lack in the actual RPG area; which Bioware practically owns.
It's like Super Mario Bros. I still LOVE that game, but eventually I got sick of it and started playing other games. That is where I believe WoW is now.

I wouldn't have played the expansion, obviously because it hasn't been released yet. I am saying that seeing what the future holds was just more of a reason for me to stay the hell away from that game and play the games I want to play.
As even more icing on the cake...I always thought it was a little fucked up having cartoon graphics, but you would do adult-themed quests like poisoning people and then watching them scream die before your eyes...I mean am I the only one that thinks that it a little messed up? LOL

Again, I have to refer you to Diablo. It essentially defined the genre of action rpg. Now, I'm not knocking Bioware at all. I am loyal to any game (not company), that I like and that works.
As far as RPG storytelling goes, the Diablo series is fairly engaging as well.
I haven't played WoW since capping the DK. I got bored with it. This of course is normal for any game you play for an extended time.
Also, in your definition of RPG earlier, it seems like Second Life and The Sims are more of what you define as RPG. Now the rest of the world probably does not see it this way, but to each his/her own.

Why would you even consider playing WoW if you didn't want to? Im trying to follow you here but it's just not happening. Maybe it's me.
The graphics thing has been debated here forever. Everyone has their own take on it.
WOW is gonna have more Eastern influences like this because that's where the majority of it's subs are coming from. WOW in the West will take a huge beating when TOR,GW2 and TSW comes out. Blizzard to me are just looking down the road ahead of time so when it does happen they will continue to roll as usual.
If i had to actually take a guess and predict the future, i would say that WOW will go full F2P with in the next year give or take. It's gonna make the most business sense for Blizzard to do so. Asian's don't pay for subs, and they will have no choice if they want to keep all those in the East playing.
For them to go F2P they will have to lose a lot of subs say around 4 million in west alone. You are really telling me they are going to lose that many players in a year or so? if not why would they go F2P when they rake in millions with their current business model? i swear people don't think before opening their mouth.
The reason why, is because, of TOR, GW2 and TSW all being out or coming out very soon. Like it or not, i think WOW in the West will lose that many subs.
4 million players of WOW are going to just get up and leave to GW2, SWTOR and TSW. yeah that makes perfect sense. You convinced me.
Year after year same bull***. i wish people would just learn from past MMO releases.
The fact that TOR has 3 million pre-orders says that this us actually a very real possibility.
I saw the pic with that announcement and all that came to mind was "Kung Fu Panda". Then I facepalmed and laughed till my sides hurt. What next, "My Little Pony"?
next after this is the reemergence of the california raisins LOL, god wow is pathetic.
I've always thought StarWars was going to be successful but the degree of success was always in question . The elephant in the room was always what Blizzard were going to do to combat the potential competition from TOR . With the annoucement of the Kung Fu Panda expanion yesterday which seams extremly weak in concept I think Blizzard have given it to TOR on a plate . If the game is as polished and fun as early reviews make it out to be the potential exodus from WoW to StarWars could now be on a epic scale . There must be howls of delight and relief in the Bioware offices at the huge miss step by Blizzard just as they are about to release TOR .
An early Christmas present indeed .
Remember the 'early reviews' are mainly from the media who get referral $$ and awards in spin doctoring. Once the NDA has been lifted from people who don't get a cut from their views on the game you will be seeing a whole different story about STWORs success. (of course i might be totally wrong but hey opinions are opinions).
Blizzard know what they are doing..Bioware don't get a choice with what they do since they are EA/Lucas' bitch. For every one person saying WoWs next expansion is lame retarded etc i bet there are 9 others who don't go to forums but will be buying the expansion.
You're correct. My friend is in the real TOR beta and the bull you read on this site and others about TOR being not good or polished and is just a WOW clone are so far off that it's not even funny.
I too played in the TOR beta, and it was a pretty epic experience, probably one of the most entertaining experiences I have had with an MMO, in a long time.
SWTOR is like : If Bioware did a mass survey of what people enjoyed in MMO's, Adventure Games and RPG's and mixed them all together. BLAM! you got yourself a pretty remarkable MMO. Only one thing I can pick at the game is, Space Flight...the only thing period.
=-)
Wildstar (2013) & Elder Scroll Online (2013)
Playing: Diablo 3, WOW, Far Cry 3 & X-Com.
Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.
Yeah, but this time it's BIOWARE we're talking about. All the failures of the past were produced by companies that are just a bunch of amateurs playing the big boys game.
Blizzard = PRO
Bioware = PRO
rest = amateur hour
Case closed.
I am sorry but Mythic was also quiet pro till WAR release. So it is not all black and white like you think.
I beg to differ. Mythic was never really pro. Daoc may have been innovative when it came to realm vs. realm, but they got a lot of things wrong after that. None of their games ever had the type of polish that WoW had.. even daoc. Bioware is going to be a different story. They place the same emphasis on QUALITY that Blizzard does.
Loads of players have wanted Pandarens to be playable since vanilla. I suspect this will be a positive thing for the game overall.
This is why they are suprised by this, not knowing any history behind Panderen.
Pandaren popularity grew from Warcraft 3 Expac and was long rumored to be the next race in BC.
Amazes me how some folks can be such dumbasses.
I remember when Panderans were an April Fools joke.
They were a joke then, they are still a joke now. WoW has also now been lowered to their level as a joke.
Claiming ignorance is a stupid defence, I'm sure there are many, many people who know the history behind Pandarans, like me, who still think they are stupid, sad, and childish.
This is just the last nail in the coffin for WoW and it will be TOR standing over the rotting corpse. Just look at how all you WoW fans feel the need to come into the TOR forum, a forum you've never been to before to defend WoW as much as you possibly can. TOR has you shaking in your boots, TOR will murder your favourite game and the Kung Fu Panda expansion will help.
You all know TOR is going to blow WoW out of the water. You hear your friends, family, and co-workers talking about it, you see the scads and scads of positive previews on the web, you see the rampant forum activity while WoW's forums lie empty, you hear the stories of the sheer number of pre-orders for TOR (estimated at over 3 million now.) You log into WoW and feel the cold wind of death blow across that game, and you know, deep inside your heart, that the source of that wind is Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Long story short: The Pandarens first manifested from Sam Didier's brother (who, I read somewhere, is dead now) who is credited somewhat for creating the name. Then they manifested into reality when Sam created a Pandaren once his daughter was born. Also Sam uses the Pandarens, or at least their face, as his "trademark". Sam is a artist, and if you know anything about artists is that they alll have trademarks. Whatever trademark they choose is really important for them as they are connected to it on some level, as well it is a way to identify their works.
So lets recap really quickly. 1. Its a tribute to his brother, which he expresses he loves dearly. 2. It is a tribute to his daughter and his family, of which he expresses he loves dearly. 3. It is his trademark in which within his industry he is known by, and he uses on all of his artwork. This is the furthest thing from "a joke"
The thing you, and seemingly many other people, are getting confused about is the "April Fools" comment he made. Let's clear that up right now. The joke part was the fact that they were being introduced as a race instead of what was actually really being introduced, which were the Draenai, which at the time were not revealed to the public. Thats it. Their actual existence within WoW was never, and is the furthest thing from a joke.
Also the community repeatly asked Blizzard to add them into WoW's selectable races, both before and after the "April Fool's Joke" So regardless if it was a joke or not, the community wanted them, so putting them in is definetely not a "Bad Move"
Also pandarens have been in WoW since 2005, from the kid in Stormwind talking about them, to the pandaren vanity pet, to item drops and mores. Its just now we are being able to actually play as them.
What does it matter if they have handed "it" to swtor? "It" is a now worn out piece of rubbish, that many are fed up with. Having said that, many lemmings will still waste money on it. Blizzard probably see this as well, and are moving on.

Am I the only one that thinks this new talent system might be a nail in the coffin? Big changes like this have rarly had good results.
I thought that as well when I initially read it. However upon further research, they actually state that talents will be trreated like how Glyphs are treated now, where you have access to all of them. So while you can only have 6 active at any given time, You have access to all of them and you can activate specific ones depending on the task you're about to face. Its pretty much exactly how the current talent system is, where you can only reallly get access to one full talent tree.
And before anyone says ' wahh but more talents are better" just look at Rift and ask yourself, how well did that work out for them?
What does it matter if they have handed "it" to swtor? "It" is a now worn out piece of rubbish, that many are fed up with. Having said that, many lemmings will still waste money on it. Blizzard probably see this as well, and are moving on.
i'm now waiting for blizz to announce the latest innovation to the wow universe - "active occurances". these are groundbreaking new twists in how mmos are delivered and blizz is pleased to announce they'll be once more pioneering new technology and innovative concepts no other game has ever had the cashews to do before.
i've managed to get hold of some snippets and they're quite intriguing:
"Our occurance system won't make you read a huge quest description to find out what's going on. You'll experience it by seeing and hearing things in the world. If a murloc is attacking, you won't read three paragraphs telling you about it, you'll see a murloc attacking, and hear characters in the game world screaming about a murloc attack. You'll hear guards from nearby cities trying to recruit players to go help fight the murloc, and see little clouds of smoke in the distance, rising from the village under siege by the murloc."
oooh. amazing. tell me more.
"Other developers have tried to tackle this problem, but in World of Warcraft we will go further. Where other multi-player quest systems were pass or fail - our active occurances evolve in response to player interaction and the outcomes they achieve. Where previous systems reset and start again and really don't change the world, active occurances occur every day and are only reset when we do a server update to prevent annoying anyone."
wow! sounds awesome! what else?
"Traditional MMO quest systems will send multiple players off to kill a boss as a quest resolution. One player kills the boss and gets the loot. The rest of the players have to stand around and wait their turn for the boss to re-spawn so they can kill it and get credit for it. You don't want other players around you because they're stealing your kills and slowing your rate of achievement. MMOs are supposed to be about hundreds, if not thousands of players, playing together in a community, not putting them in the same world and then pushing them apart!
The dynamic occurances system is designed to specifically not address this problem. "
brilliant!
"If our active event system is putting the "MMOO" back in "MMOORPG," then (***can we get someone to copy Ree's article on the GW2 page, please? Toss it up somewhere on the forums. They love that kind of thing there. Makes them feel loved. Thanks, guys! Don't print this!***)'s article will show you how our personal story system is putting the "MOO" back in the "MMOORPG." You won't want to miss it!"
you might notice blizz are renaming the MMO genre to MMOO. this is apparently one of blizz's wonderful jokes they love to show off with, because not only are pandas going to be a playable race but - and i know you're all looking forward to it! - tauren will finally be able to shapeshift into COWS as they were "always intended to"! this is amazing news and a wonderful way in which blizzard has managed to link both the D3 release with their pandas. awesome stuff!
basically, i don't understand why everyone's not as excited about blizz's innovative and creative processes. they're way ahead of everyone else.
What ever happend to the worth-wile expansions to world of warcraft? remember when each expansion raised the level cap by 10 levels? remember when each expansion had released 2 new races each (save WotLK)? Cata i can accept as an expansion, even though it only has a 5 level increase to cap, because it changed a lot within the original game world and added 2 new races like expansions before it. BUT, adding a single new race, an island that probably wont see ANY action except for New pandaren characters and level 85 players, one class, and little upgrades to the talent system (yet again, which is getting old fast) is well, just plain dumb. I honestly feel like blizzard is using this expansion as a money grab just for the hell of it, since Sooo many people (apprently) have wanted panderans as a race for a long time now, and are taking advantage of that completly. lets not forget the pet battle system, which will help blizz sell what $10 pets they have in their store now. I can see it now, a Panderan Monk traveling around with a Pet Panderan Monk. Laughable.
::EDIT:: I've probably miss spelled alot of things during this rant, but i dont give a fudge, and will let the proper grammer authorities to help correct my cave-man typing

I thought the talent system they showed was prbably one of the best changes they ever made to wow... you basically get a pseudo hybrid class system...as in, where before you had cookie cutter builds, you can now make cross-spec builds catered to your own taste.
No doubt it will still be cookie cutter, but now they only have to balance a select few abilities per class when it comes to balancing specs within a class, and the player can make funky hybrid builds. So, by say... making a aoe build for paladins and also throwing in a signature holy ability. or a sub rogue that wants to have buffed poison from one of the other talent trees...
miles ahead of the old...go to a website, pick up a preplanned build and run with it, talent tree system imo.

The fact that TOR has 3 million pre-orders says that this us actually a very real possibility.
next after this is the reemergence of the california raisins LOL, god wow is pathetic.
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.
good point.
Am I the only one that thinks this new talent system might be a nail in the coffin? Big changes like this have rarly had good results.
A little research can do wonders, and something someone should do before making statements and "facts" about something: http://web.archive.org/web/20100807232425/http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/news/samwise-interview-12-09.html

Blizzard probably see this as well, and are moving on.
they're still very silly.
And before anyone says ' wahh but more talents are better" just look at Rift and ask yourself, how well did that work out for them?
i'm now waiting for blizz to announce the latest innovation to the wow universe - "active occurances". these are groundbreaking new twists in how mmos are delivered and blizz is pleased to announce they'll be once more pioneering new technology and innovative concepts no other game has ever had the cashews to do before.
i've managed to get hold of some snippets and they're quite intriguing:
Everything else is pretty meh as usual.
