The game is good and my experience so far is very good, but the game is far from being briliant....
I played for 9 hours today... I honestly cannot remember the last time that happened, and i've been playing games for a loooooooooooooong time. For me, and for many others, that's definitely brilliant....
Not happy with the current state of MMORPG's? Think you can do better? What would you do different?
I wait now for servers to come up again. Was not sleeping all night long. This game rocks but it is bad for health. Best game i ever played. SWTOR forever
The game is good and my experience so far is very good, but the game is far from being briliant....
OP likes the game, he enjoys it and thinks it is brilliant. Who is anyone to tell him he is wrong? same goes for movies, music and books. Topics like these are so petty and waste of time.
I think Rift may have started a trend among MMO companies. Gaming companies now seem to realise that they need to have finished products that have polish, as opposed to many game launches from years back. SWTOR has polish, and is already a mature product. You may or may not like the gameplay itself, but there's little wrong with the game as a product.
Never liked wow but this is not wow, had 6 hours of fun and enjoyment, loving the storylines not even noticing the leveling just bouncing around getting involved in intrigue, politics and naughty stuff.
I hyave everything on max and my pc handles it fine as does wifes pc, happy we both pre-ordered this can not wait till 15th!

This is true. Whatever else I think of it's derivaitve, unambitious and boring core game mechanics and fugly models and terrible character development, SWtOR is a stable polished game. It has bugs, but this isn't a perfect world and all games have bugs.
It will launch well.
The problem with buying into a game on the strengh of a good launch is where does that leave you in 3-6 months when that launch is ancient history?
In the long term a good launch is nice but if the game is lacking in it's core systems and can't retain players it means nothing.

Having enjoyed (say) 3 months of the game? I mean, I'm perfectly okay with enjoying 3 months and then leaving the game. Hell, so far, 1 month is all I need to enjoy a mmorpg, "win" it (in a sense of getting all my pleasure from it) and then move forward.
I'm not planning on anything "long-term" in the mmorpg because I'm not interested in long-term relationships with mmorpgs.
I found the game to be dull, unimaginative, and a WoW clone in the worst case scenario. The mechanics, quest mechanics, and overall gameplay is a mirror image.
If you need a new MMO wrapped up in a pretty package you just found it. Do not expect any groundbreaking advances in the genre.

I don't think of WoW at all when I play this game. I think of Star Wars.
As for mechanics, you could pick hundreds of games in which it is similar, but you would not find many reasons for making it different besides your own boredom.
Alot of people seem to think that their game (relseased or not ) is going to be so different from what is already available. This is incorrect, and it's really all about your own perspective.
If you want to call a game a fantasy clone, there are tonnes out, and more coming.
Wow this is so great! Those movies, and cutscenes at every step, and great voice acting, and it actually has a story! And this cover thing, so great, i have to position to be able to use my attacks, yay!
Hour 2:
Darn i hate this cover thing so much, i always forget about it. Having to crouch to be able to shoot, so lame and annoying, especially when you lose Line of Sight to the target or the char auto-rolls to a spot where i don't face the mobs. Still, great quests, nice voice acting, gonna focus on following the story!
Hour 3:
Bla bla... blaaaa bla bla bla blaaaa ... god i hate runnin thru corridors (all looks like corridors to me, lacks the "open" space) just to speak to these ppl... was fun at first but what;'s too much it's too much... where's the adrenaline? If i wanted to watch a movie i would have rented one
oh yea, the thingy's up, press 1
Bla bla bla... bla blaaaa
press 1
bla bla bla in an uncomprehensible language so i have to read it now
press 1
phew, glad that's over!
woot lvl up? maybe i can customize my char, put some stat points here and there... oh well not for me, have fun you guys who enjoy it tho.
---------------------------
Got exactly the same feelings! It gots soooo boring after 2 hours. And the graphics... I love stylised graphics in games but SWTOR looks almost like "Tabula Rasa" - uninspiring and bland. I will try all the classes, maybe I will find there something for me. I'm dissapointed so far though...
I actually personally think that TR had better character creation, model art, and animations then SWtOR.

This.
Three months of play is all I need now in days, until I want to move on.
It's a shame that there are tons of people who can't leave WoW because of their time invested...
Having played the Agent to Level 12 by now - the Voice Over, Cutscenes and Story be very good, Companion is a good idea, Garphic is ok and offers a few nice scenics - the rest is pretty much an average standard-fashioned-static-mmo-game template. As of now it will make me buy the game for the family and pay the subs until the story runs out and we have seen a few "dungeons".
It has appeal for 6 to 12 months is my guess, with the first 3 months the most exciting and then slowing down much - beside that i think it will have a good retention rate to non seasoned mmo gamers!
PS: Without Story, VO and Companions i would not buy and play it!
"Torquemada... do not implore him for compassion. Torquemada... do not beg him for forgiveness. Torquemada... do not ask him for mercy. Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"
You and I have a vastly different opinion on what conistitutes 'Brilliant'.
'Sandbox MMO' is a PTSD trigger word for anyone who has the experience to know that anonymous players invariably use a 'sandbox' in the same manner a housecat does.
When your head is stuck in the sand, your ass becomes the only recognizable part of you.
No game is more fun than the one you can't play, and no game is more boring than one which you've become familiar.
How to become a millionaire: Start with a billion dollars and make an MMO.

So in other words youve had your head in the sand and for the past 4 years, since anyone whos seen ANYTHNING on tehg ame should know this already, which begs the question, why did you play it in teh first place?
This is why no one takes TOR hate seriousley, its all from peopl,e whi cant get over the fact that the game isnt what they want it to be, yet they play it anyway for the sole reason of bitching about it. sad really.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
Really enjoying the beta this weekend... rolled a Jedi knight first as that is the class I am least likely to play in Live... it was 'meh' as I expected. Goodie two shoes crap.
The Sith Inquisitor now... that rocks. the story is great, the class itself is really dynamic, and the over-the-top bad guy acting is laugh out loud funny.
Going to try a BH now, and then play my favourite of the 3 all day tomorrow. Looks like Inquisitor for my main though.
Technically - runs great on my Alienware laptop (i720, 1GB 260 GTX, 4GB RAM) @ 1920 x 1200.
I feel I was incredibly hasty. The more I play, the more it is boring me. I'm tired of running about and killing x and collecting y. I love the story aspect, but I can't help but feel this is KOTOR 3 and they've slapped a monthly sub onto it.
graphics, graphics...yer, maybe, but the gameplay is...world of warcraft in space...no really! I really don't get it, do you really like this game? Prime Online is the game that is worth waiting for...these themeparks...for teens....Go kill 10 Newbie Hunters...Go get 10 Newbie Hunter's Riffle from Newbie Hunters... this is just rediculous...was fun like...5 years ago...5 years!!!...(at maximus level) Go kill 20 Maximum Level Hunters...Go to a dungeon get some gear...got all the best gear? Wait for the expansion in which you can kill some mobs again, and get some better stuff... OMG....

That was remarkably fast. From brilliant to boring, only I expect most people's determination in proving this game is a contender will make them play for a few months at least. At least you got out now.
how can people compare this games questing to world of warcraft?!?!
Today I picked up a quest to recover some stolen medical supplies from a republic medic to save the life of a solider. The Medic said he had seen one of the natives carrying it away.
I went to the location and spoke with the native who explained how she had taken it to help her people. She explained the medical supplies had been stolen and that if we did something for her then she would tell us who took the supplies. (I say us because me and a guildy were making choices for the outcome of the quest in group mode).
We decided to threaten her, she wouldn't break so we threatened the child with her instead. She finally snapped and told us who had the supplies.
We went and did our first pick up quest part of the chain which was to kill 2 officers. We returned and had an option. Hand in with the Medic or the Native.
OP 'this game is brilliant because i am having fun in it'.
Everyone else 'how dare you' and lots of grumbling.
OP next time take permision before you decide to enjoy something.
Go to any thread that has legit criticism of the game and you'll see plenty of people yelling "No, you're wrong! Your criticisms are baseless and false!"

Goes both ways.
Still doesn't make it right.
