This is exactly why I never trust review scores from anywhere. I know pretty much before I even enter the game what I'm getting into, either from reading information on the game, or watching videos. Fair score from my beta experiences (i got into all 3 weekends) would be 7.5 out of 10. Some of the starting areas were bland and not very good, however after the capital city "planet" the game gets very interesting and the story is really great. Launch client will probably be a little better, so maybe even an 8.
"The gameplay in Star Wars The Old Republic is absolutely horrible. Just like World of Warcraft, Rift, or any other themepark MMO"
"It’s a StarWars WoW Clone. Starwars games have been done to death"
"One thing that’s sort of an innovation is companions. There very creapy"
"This is not the game your looking for."
As an aside: Holy spell-check batman.... Creapy? Your? There? Star Wars one word?
It's pretty hard to take a review seriously when there are that many simple spelling errors, isn't it? lol That was more of a red flag to me than the obvious sandbox preference. At least he didn't try pointing out any grammatical or spelling errors in the game. That would have been too perfectly ironic.
I'm not sure why, but it truly seems that some people are on a MISSION to convince others not to enjoy SWTOR. People are so fracking strange and twisted. What is their investment in it to want to convince people not to play? What do they gain from that sort of foolishness?
i wont even read the review.... why is a sandboxer reviewing a thempark in the first place? are they looking for reasons not to become themeparkers? lol jeez....

Actually, I think you're spot on with that observation. There's little 'live and let live' attitude to be seen.
I think it's several reasons, simply boredom for one, people not having any MMO or game to play and bored and frustrated making them vent, what I'd like to call the 'grumpy old men' effect how people complain about current state of things and how back in the days in the glory past of their memories everything was so much better. Then there's the factor that if an MMORPG people dislike ends up to be hugely successful, it might be a continuation of a situation they dislike: 'if more themepark MMO's end up to be hugely successful, then we'll never get the sandbox MMORPG that I really want', that kind of thinking, which has people embark on a crusade to bash the MMO they don't want to succeed.
And then of course you have the people who can't imagine that an MMORPG that they themselves despise can be enjoyable for others, a lack of empathy or understanding of the 'tastes differ' concept which leads those people to believe that there must be something wrong with others who enjoy things that they themselves dislike. Since most people consider themselves and their own tastes - consciously or subconsciously - to be superior to that of others, this leads them to the conclusion that others and their opinion are inferior and thus needs to be corrected.
Anyway, those are my guesses after observing these forums for a while
Of course, with that I don't mean the people who have in their eyes valid criticisms about a game that they like to discuss; it only becomes one of the situations mentioned above when they can't accept that those criticisms might not be the same for other people and might not hinder others in enjoying a game like it does to them.

It's not just with this game. It's pretty much every game listed on MMORPG. Some people just like to trash talk other peoples games.
Never trust a screenshot or a youtube video without a version stamp!
They seem a bit biased against sandbox games but ultimately they ended up giving SWTOR another horrible review. Check it out here. http://sandboxer.org/?p=261
I know it's bad, but 2 out of 10 bad is REALLY friggen bad for an MMO.
Is this a getback for Eurogamers review on Darkfall?
Not liking the game is one thing but it should get more than 2 just on the account of being competently coded.
5 I could have bought, but now it is just a rather pathetic whining.

I have a hard time agreeing with this, simply because most MMOs that have been released have proven to be junk more or less.
Now if most MMO's had proven to be mega hits, with lots of people still subbing to them, then I could see credibility that it is just a group of malcontents bashing games. However, most games have proven to be lacking the enjoyment that motivates gamers to keep resubbing.
So, I would say it is less about some group of malcontents, and more simply about Devs releasing games that do not meet customer expectations to retain long term subs.
So the burden of proof is on TOR, imo, to demonstrate why they are not just another Rift, AoC, War, etc. Those games, and others, had lots of hype before release, and then hemoraged subs with in the first year.
It is up to TOR to demonstrate how it will not follow that TYPICAL pattern.

This doesn't cover it fully. The best example is maybe WoW which has been bashed to death and proclaimed in heavy decline for years now on these forums as early as 2007 maybe, yet time and time again it proved to have stable sub numbers and even growth.
Also, the persistent bashing happened to most of those games before the launch and even in the post launch month, where (some) haters and critics often were stating as facts sales and subs to be a fraction of what they really were.
So, I maintain my arguments I used in an earlier posts, that a number of people want/need the MMO's they dislike to fail, hence the constant bashing of those games and proclaiming them failing all the time even at times when they were still hugely successful and be enjoyed by many people.

I didn't expect this much debate over a simple WoW clone, even a StarWars one.

Awesome review, haven't laughed that hard in a long time

Who is Sandboxer.org..??
Really, are they even a proper website or just a bunch of monkeys?
I've never even heard of them until today, shows you how much they hit the right market!
After I beta tested SW:TOR I was surprised how good it was. I was not really sure that it was going to be that good, but I can say I was proved wrong.
I will be playing when it launches, that's for sure.
The world doesn't need video games at all. Some people would be better off if they acknowledged this fact.
I thought you might not be serious, but no, this review is that poorly written.

Considering themepark gamers outnumber sandbox gamers nearly 100 to 1 I can see why most people disagree with this review.

I think SWTOR is as bland and boring as the next guy. But this is just lulzy.
He who keeps his cool best wins.
It is refreshing to see a score as low as 2/10 for a AAA game.
