It's pretty obvious now that Swtor is not going to succeed the way you hoped.

OMG, "there are no "non-instanced" MMO's". Do you mean there are no MMO's that do not instance the open world? The only one that claims to be an MMO, yet will not allow more than 100 players into a zone is SWTOR. There is no open world there at all, only instances.

There are several MMO's out there that do not even instance anything. Let's simply start at the A, let's see: Archlord has no instances whatsoever, on any given server, only one of each zone, deal with it. No second instance of anything anywhere. I'm sure there are plenty of others.

Theres no 'need' to group.. sure, if you dont mind missing out on a ton of content. What i will say though is that ive grouped in this game far more than ive ever grouped in any other MMO to date while levelling due to all of the encouragements to do so - numerous 2/4 man heroics on all the planets, social points obtained only via grouping, a flashpoint always at my level range. Ive grouped on every single planet so far numerous times to try and do most of the heroics and done general questing with a few different people for social points.

You don't find it odd that you have to group up for "social points"? The game is so much like a story-driven single player game that they felt they had to throw in the concept of social points, just to get you to group. Some MMO huh?

Well you would group up for instances in all MMOs but this time you get social points on top of all the other stuff so if you want to rush to endgame without ever doing any group quests you still get social points.

I do not group up for the group quest because i want/need the socaila points that badly i do it for the nice rewards and the fun i do find it quiete odd that ppls would say something bad about the social points system most MMOs dontgive you any reason to group up for question hell you might even get way less exp and suffer from groupquesting now there is a game that rewards you and its something bad??

Btw how is it odd to get social points for acting social and playing with others O.o??

It's obvious to me that once EA bought Bioware the owners of Bioware checked out or were compeletely clueless about the mmo market.

If there is one thing that will really put the nail in the coffin of Swtors..........too much instancing. Is there one popular mmo that uses heavy instancing?

Even Arenanet knows not to remake GW1.

What instancing? I'm lvl 22 and have yet to see an instance and having a blast!

Multiple copies of the same zone you're in are made whenever there are more than an x amount of people in it. You'll notice when you group up.

    That's instancing, no?

No.  That's phasing.  WoW does it, Aion does it, but I can't speak on any of the others. It would be cool to have the ability to change phases like Aion has/had (haven't played in a long time).  I can't say that I like Star Wars phasing any more than WoW phasing. Aion calls/called their phases channels, and you could switch between them.  That was cool.

As far as grouping...  in SWTOR I've done more grouping with people on my server in the last week, than I did in the last two years of WoW.   LFG/LFD killed server exploration and what little, horrible world PvP there was.  The big frame rate dropping 40 on 40 battles in Hillsbrad died out with each subsequent content change in WoW. That's why I left WoW.  There was no server comaraderie. Just people waiting in the latest popular hub until their queue popped.  For some people that was cool, they got to troll the chat channels while they waited.  I never understood why they thought that was being social.  There was nothing social about any of the chat channels in WoW.  Just a bunch of asshatery.

Than i realize im reading opinion of ppl that don't even have scratch a dent on the surface of the game, heck im playing a lot and i just end the first chapter of my char yesterday, and really, it was EPIC.

Hope this "bash STWOR" trend gonna end soon.

You're absolutely right. Noone who has a problem with TOR has really played the game. I mean it hasn't even been available for weeks, or even months yet. Unless you count beta, and early access, and now launch. But really, what does that really amount to? These people simply haven't played the game, because no one who has played TOR could think anything but rainbows about it. It's just that good.

You are so 'absolutly' wrong. I play the game and consider game lacking in many ways. I'm at lvl 27 and I have yet to meet opposing player in open world, why do they even bothered to split servers between PvP and PvE ? So far there is exactly zero open world pvp for me, again why it is this server marked as PVP ?.  Then there is user interface, AH (or galactic market for those for who swtor is apparetly first mmo...) interface is realy atrocious, missing LFG tool is shocker for AAA mmo game. Seriously go to find some free trial to rift to see how it CAN be done by noname studio ... PvP queue where i cant choose which pvp area i want to play (why always huttball seriously ...), 4 player groups - well if you dont want to heal or tank (and personaly after years of playing healer i wanted to play dps) i have realy realy hard time to find group for instance due one less spot for dps in group ...

The game so far feels much more like  CRPG than MMORPG, yes i like the story for my class and thats the main reason i still play it, but mmo feel is simply not there, will see if it changes on lvl cap.

I hope to god they never add a LFG tool thatis what has killed just about every MMO since wow

+1. LFG tool is just wrong. Actually LFG tool somehow brings you together with the worst and meaniest players in game who you otherwise never meet.

I stopped playing wow years ago and i dont see how spamming LFG channel adds something positeve over LFG tool. You will meet idiots regardless how you make your PUG, i learned to live with that.

this whole lfg argument is silly, someone who was hardcore wow player from begining, i was known on whole server, i was someone people would love to have in their group or raid, someone who enemy faction wont attack, and someone just famous on server/forum, and known by 90% of population ,

sure most of that dissapeared , servers were upgraded and those 3k caps were gone, yes wow started with 3k caps.. same as swtor.. and that was 8 years ago?

so there was not only more players, but all cross realm and lfg came in , to most of the realm i became just random guy, to that 20% hardcore population i was still someone they know, and those were people which mattered to me,

this one of main arguments no cross realms and lfgs, because of community, yes closed community is nice

but being able just to login for half hour and do instance is also nice, being able to do instance while lvling is nice, being able to do instance without those 3 out of 10 which dinged max lvl week before everyone else is nice too ,because on another realm there is another 5 guys which dinged max lvl before everyone else

they could atleast made proper lfg tool, no auto grouping, no teleporting, just selecting instances you wana do, now only lfg is comment, which is bugged too, everytime you change planet it resets intself to " LFG " instead of comment

if i was on alderan, when to fleet it reseted, redid again, went to alderan ,reseted again, and be honest noone uses that, you cant filter comments, can you even search comments? you do who xx-xx and go mass whispering.for instance group

and it was hard on release, wait month, when you have 10x players lvl, and alts will never clear flashpoints

My only current issue with the game is a lack of cross-server warzones. The lower pop servers end up with 15 min+ queues and always playing huttball because there's not enough people, and half the time the game ends due to not enough players.

These threads are silly. Only place I am finding disgruntled people is on this site. None in game or any of my friends who left one mmo or another for this one. So I am failing to see where they are not succeeding. Unlike many there are those out there who are actually enjoying it because every person's level of entertainment and enjoyment varies. If it isn't your thing I can only hope you find what you seek. I was surprised to discover I am enjoying it unlike the beta. Maybe because I kept doing the same class over and over and now I'm doing something different or the fact it simply is playing better (lagg-a-licious during beta for me). Who knows. But I'm glad I found something I can enjoy and several of my friends too.

It's a little early to say if this game will do great or not, so far I just see it doing a little better than Rift and Lotro, not bad...but not great. Which, I personally consider a moderate success.

I'm not a fan of the route they took swotor. Too kiddie for me. But to say that there is a nail in the coffin is simply ignorant. They are going to rake in some serious cash that is clear.

WoW has plenty of instancing too . Actually I cant think of any mmo that doesn't . The only thing thats pretty obvious to me is the OP doesn't really know what hes talking about .

The concept of social points in the context of an MMO is odd. The fact that those points exist at all is odd. While there may be a few MMO's out there that do not require you to group ever, it's far from the norm. It's like "OMG you got into a group! Way to go! Gratz!" when it should simply be something natural, inherent to playing an MMO.

Oops, TOR isn't really an MMO, is it? More somewhere in between an MMO and a CORPG.
