About TOR's Ilum and Tatoien (you fight anyone not in your group), everybody was like that is going to be epic. I do not think anybody even steps in that are where you fight anyone not in your group, so basically a dead spot. As for ilum, it's meh... massive lag when the republic actually does come out on the field but there's hardly any fight still. If there is someone brave enough to go in the middle of them and try to push them over or something... hardly epic.
Now back to this Mists... I'm just not seeing why would I want to go there? Will there be some sort of quick travel button, sort of like Warzones? Will we be able to get out somewhat easily?
Your guess is as good as ours. Really, the blog post and the wiki tell you everything we know. This monday we'll here about the experience of the press so hopefully that will clear some stuff up.
Uh, I thought I might have missed something when I read the article and I was like, hmmm... I think I need to read it again hehe
So they did not really say why one would actually wana go there then huh?
What do you refer to when you say "Mists"? The Mists is a place between "universes" where all PvP in GW2 takes place, it's a place that lets you re-live epic wars/battles in the history of Tyria. Aka WvW and structured PvP.
Why do you want to go there? What kind of a question is that? Why do you wanna play this game? Because it might be fun?
Not sure what you're looking for. PvPers don't generally need a reason to PvP, they do it because they love it. The Mists are a PvP zone. You can level there through PvP and through events in an open-pvp setting. It's what people who want open PvP have been asking for.
If that's not enough incentive for you, that's probably because you aren't the target audience for it.
EDIT: Also, everyone seems to be mistaking the Mists for WvWvW. I don't remember reading anywhere that they were the same thing. In structued PvP like WvWvW and skirmishes, people are maxed out. You go into the Mists as you actually are, hence it being a place you can level. The Mists are also referenced in the books as Mists of Ascalon, it's old Ascalon where everyone is now walking around as angry ghosts that consider everyone enemies. Feel free to correct me, I'm not 100% sure myself, but from everything I've read, they're separate environments.
Edit 2: "We knew right away that we wanted three teams fighting against one another on a series of huge maps in the Mists (our world vs. world battleground) and that each team would be composed of an entire server full of players."
That sounds like they have certain maps in The Mists set up for WvWvW but it also sounds like the distinction was made, as if saying that's not the only thing the Mists are for.
The mists are WvWvW, they are not structured (or competitive) PvP.
The mist's is more then just vW'3. the structured pvp takes place there also. Maps like the battle at kylo are faught in the past
"My way is the only way and no one else has a right to an opinion."
That's basically all I'm hearing from both sides of the coin here.
1. Actually what you are seeing is difference of opinion. Neither of us said the other was wrong.
2. You are on a forum, which is for discussing things.
Not sure what you expect when you visit a forum but there will be words and text and other things on your screen.
1. Discussion and argument are very different. The prior usually doesn't involve phrases like "I don't care what I am virtually kicking you in the balls"
2. I just discussed you guys' apparent argument. Not sure what you expect when you visit a forum but there will be words and text and other things on your screen. (You see what I did there?)
But I dont want to derail the thread, so I'm leaving it at that. (Also I'm off work now so I'm logging out and going home)

1. Rush head first into a forum thread and post a comment that has no basis or context to the forum topic.
2. Attempt to disrupt and derail the entire thread by stating your own misinterpreted understanding that accuses others of some negative infraction.
3. Attempt to deflect any corrections by using a strong intellectual ditty to give your comments the appearance of merit. The popular "You see what I did there" should help you to insert doubt into the validity of any responders statements.
4. Conclude your posting by stating your intention not to derail the thread and give the appearance that you didn't just attempt to crash the forum topic, which you conveniently haven't posted on yet.
5. The last line of every post should end with "at least I have chicken".

Why would you want to go there?
Who can answer that except for you?
I will want to go there for the purposeful PvP, challenge, server pride, and to be part of something bigger then myself.
I am sure entering and exiting will be by a UI button, though I don't know.
You know I wanted to go to Ilum for purposeful PVP too, but there was not any.
I mean IIum you had to be max level in order to really participate, why is this even in a comparasing lmao
Cmon its has the same races and classes dont worth it its worthless. And at world(earth) wars has plants vs aliens, not humans vs humans and not fighting al with gun. And other mmos has a red faction and a blue faction with totally different classes(never understood why called them mirror). But hey server vs server vs server its not worth it. No more comments and the red humanoids wins the blue humanoids but hey there is a purpose couse red is enemy of blue. Welcome.

Um.... What?
He said that WvW is worthless since your opponents are exactly like you and your allies. Other mmos usually have factions with different classes in them, not just mirrored classes. Welcome.
and i said the opposite about the classes , (i never understood why called them mirror clasees its irony). and my post its a paranoic irony that came from the ppl that dont like RvR or are just haters but still wanna comment.
Splitting up the servers by factions is about the stupidest thing you can do. This is why the entire concept of the Mists is genious. I only hope that every future MMO does away with factions and makes it server based competition.

I certainly don't agree here, with either part. I am of the school of thought that while the PVP can still be fun in this scenario, the thing that makes PVP the most fun (for me) is having an enemy with a face, if you know what I mean. In this scenario you have a faceless enemy, rivalry creates some very fun PVP scenarios, I feel that will be lacking in GW2.

Time and time again we see MMOs try and fail in large scale PvP, when they simply split people into 2 Factions. Now here Guild Wars 2 is doing something vastly different, in order to fix this issue, yet the OP simply refuses to acknowledge it. Kind of why he compared it to SW:TOR in the first place. Which is why I'm not going to waste my breath trying to convince the OP.
I also hope that this game becomes a good and successful example of how to handle MMORPG PvP in the future. DAoC was a good example, but because it wasn't as financially sucessful as WoW, is the reason why it has taken this long for games to use it for inspiration.

Maybe for now, but in time I do see rivalries between servers that face each other often (for being in the top rankings) becoming a reality. Kind of like in any sports league. Teams don't face each over perpetually, yet rivalries still form.

While that's great in theory, it never works in practice.
Every single MMO i've played, i've been on the faction that i have zero interest in due to friends wanting to be there. I just want to play with people i enjoy without being pinished with a faction i have no stake in personally.

True, but I think it makes it more like a sport in this scenario, and less like sharing a space with an enemy. I miss guild based PVP is more or less what I am saying. If they had made the WvW part of the Mists GvG it would be a better set-up IMO. But it is what it is and I can live with that.

Um.... I don't need any convincing, if you notice my logo and my signature. I brought up TOR because I have not played DAoC.

If anyone elese tries to compare WvW to Ilum ever again i will probably jump through my screen and backhand that person
these 2 are not compareable, not on the same planet, not in the same universe.
Ilum is not the mists.
The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.
The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...
