If people keep on supporting companies like this then, honestly, they deserve what they get.

Especially after what they promised with SWTOR and what they delivered... or the Mass Effect 3 fiasco with having to pay extra to experience the full story.

Lol at the first few posts on this thread, how do people still ask for data confirming TOR is sinking fast, seriously have you once gone on TORstatus to see the servers population drops significantly week by week and if that's not enough do the graphs not help you understand anything?

Politicians have been doing it forever.

    It's all spin.

There is a LOT of research behind all this stuff, it's a huge industry.

Things like - Republicans in the US refuse to say the word "Rich" because rich can and does stimulate negative feelings in many people, so instead they use "Job Creators" and such which has very positive connotations.

It's also why Democrats use Wealthy and Rich instead - because of the negative connotations.

Marketing speak - huge industry, lots and lots of money in it.

Maybe they use wealthy and rich because that's what they are? Republicans just don't like things being called what they are. They have to giv e it some shiny name so the fish in the barrel will bite their bullets.

    Welcome to marketing .

Do you truly expect a for profit company to not put spin on its products in attempt to boost sales?

And Badspock is correct. This goes on in pretty much every aspect of public relations. Especially politics & big business. And has been going on for .. oh ... since mankind formed societies and government structures.

Every time you see a coke commercial, hear or see a politician speak, read a magazine advert, visit a website its there. And will always be.

Of course they tag their videos with "success". They have managed to sucker over +2 mill people into buying the game, if that's not a successful launch, i don't know what is!

Retention rate, now thats an entirely different matter - don't hold your breath for an EA celebration video of that one tho.

Did you even read what it means?... they just point you to a certain direction.. most of the dynamic events need to be explored.

You got some nerve calling them misleading when you have a swtor avatar.

This doesn't actually prove anything, but if you load up the monthly graph there and just visually draw a line connecting all the weekend peaks (they aren't hard to spot), you will see a fairly steady rate of decline.  There is one notable exception during the first week of February where the chart jumps up unexpectedly after long period of unannounced weekend maintenace...but other than that, it's a steady decline.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

Yeah especially regarding SW:TORs truly misleading cutscenes/CGI advertisements and did anyone see the latest release on SW:TORs official youtube?

A 5 minute video saying that SW:TOR is the most successful MMO, that the servers are full, that people are sending in shining reviews, etc, etc.

The fact the video has almost 50% dislikes/likes and it was posted on the official SW:TOR youtube shows how untrue and displeased people actually are with the product.

I find it funny how people love to jump all over EA and BioWare for their marketing tactics, yet every single company is doing the exact same thing.  I guess if it is actually a game you are interested in then that just doesn't matter though.  To take it a step farther, even in politics today we are seeing the same marketing campaign being used from all sides.  The fact is these strategies WORK.  Instead of people taking a step back and actually really looking, they buy into the hype.

The yellow circles in GW2 that were mentioned above are a great example.  It really doesn't matter if it is a symbol of some sort or a glowing cirlce, it does exactly the same thing and for exactly the same reason.

Try taking a step back for a change and actually looking instead of just reading into the hype.  It may just help you.  It is why I actually like SWTOR to be honest.  While the hype for the game got me interested, I actually looked at the game and decided it was worth checking out.  I never let the hype suck me in and I certainly never let myself get any kind of unrealistic expectations for what a newly released game should be or have.  It is also part of the reason I doubt I will be buying GW2.  So far the more info I see about that game, the more uninterested I become.  I can't help but seeing another Rift with "dynamic" events whose only real dynamics involve the random time between events.  Add to that the "Hopping House Elves" ripped straight out of Harry Potter, and another race that seems definately designed by pedophiles, and to be honest, my impression just goes down in the dumps.  That isn't even including the fact that the cut scenes and VO work I have seen so far are less than 3rd rate.

Like what you want, it is your choice after all, but at least take a step back and really look at things.  By doing that the marketing can not bite you in the butt or even give you unrealistic expectations.

"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"

I actually jump over every company doing exactly the same thing. I don't care if it's EA or whoever.

The fact that 'they are all doing it' dosen't excuse the fact that EA are here though.

And, just for the record, I am a big ME fan, I have really enjoyed the first two games. I won't be buying the third though unless they put the game back together for launch and sell it as a complete product.

Just shows you people have nothing better things to do then troll the forums...  Everything EA has posted is accurate, will it still be accurate 6 months from now (shrug)...   and if your going to quote them use the whole quote, they said they were the most successful MMO in the time frame of launch to now, the way your trying to word it make it sound like they said they are the most successful MMO EVER which we all know WOW holds that title for now...

So why do you hate SWTOR so much that you troll the forums, that should be the real question... that you hold a grudge against a video game is a bit bizarre

A company is trying to make its game look good? shocking. I think SWTOR is average game so i never went ahead of beta but the truly awful game i had dis pleasure of playing was Tera. I actually had to take shower twice just knowing that i touched the mouse playing that game.

  • o2jplo2jpl Member Posts: 32

Every game is bound to have decline in its subscribers over time, we cannot argue that.  It's the rate of decline that matters. SWTOR will eventually hit 200k subs (i hope even lower) and only fanboys will play. It might be an oppinion but, any company that undertakes a SWG title is bound to be successfull. EA should have dedicated more time and resources (i understand they spent 200 million) on developing the game. SWG genre has so many fanboys across the world, if EA made a complete, playable and fun game their subcriber numbers would be healthy, growing and deemed successfull in my eyes.

  • MMOarQQMMOarQQ Member Posts: 636

Everyone who bought this game and was let down wants their pound of flesh.

Stephen Reid dart boards and special edition SWTOR Hamburger Helper boxes would be fantastic marketing schemes to milk a little more cash.

  • El-HefeEl-Hefe Member UncommonPosts: 760

the success or failure of swtor cant really be put on boxes sold and subscription retention.  if 2mil wanted to buy into the hype, that is not EA's fault. obviously they had a successful marketing campain. Let's take WoW out of the picture.  What mmo right now has the most subs in NA?

    I've got the straight edge.
