It seems like people never ever learn, otherwise the result would be 100% " Maybe, I have not decided yet".
People, don't make a decision before you actually tried the beta extensively or at least get various reviews from people who have.
At this point, I doubt anyone on this forum has played enough and seen enough to do a rational decision.
Unlike most of the MMO games released in the last few years. This one says PLAY ME all over it. That is based on my faith in ArenaNet, the online videos of game play and the many sneak peeks we have available to us.
If I can I plan on getting two collectors editions, one for my wife and one for me.
Yeah, I was aware that recent posts existed, but I just didn't think of it when I made my first post in this thread. It so happens that I'm not infallible.
I really don't see how anything I posted in this thread warrants the kind of responses I'm getting from you.
Don't bother with this one, it is obvious she harbors some deep resentment and animosity toward GW2 and its community. Maybe she's been touched by a rapid GW2 fanboy who unjustly critiqued SWTOR and decided on adapting the same course of action and project the snarly attitude on to the GW2 forums. Maybe not...
Whatever the case, time - both yours and hers - are spent better elsewhere.

I've been throwing money at their website for months, but it just bounces off my screen.
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

People, don't make a decision before you actually tried the beta extensively or at least get various reviews from people who have.
At this point, I doubt anyone on this forum has played enough and seen enough to do a rational decision.
Most people will never get the chance to try it in Beta and I certainly wouldn't make my decision based on someone else's opinion unless I knew for a fact that their tastes coincide with mine. So, I'll do like I have with any game I have purchased in the past. I'll look at the bullet points of the game, read the previews with a grain of salt and decide for myself if the features seem to meet my play style and then ultimately pray that I'm not wasting my money.
Let me make sure I understand this correctly. I'm a hater, fanboi of other games, or not a mmo fan if I choose not to buy and play GW2. Priceless
I'm actually just curious, do you frequent the GW2 forum here? Or did you just see this poll on the front page and decide to answer it?
Why does it matter? but he asked a valid question. This topic is for players to tell whether they are buying GW2 or not. Falmign someone for not buying GW2 is just....
?
That wasn't a flame, I'm just curious . If he just saw the post on the main page, then it would totally make sense why he said No on the poll. But if he follows the game, then I was just going to ask him why he's following it when he doesn't plan on buying it.
So OP puts three options in poll yes, no and maybe.... that is for everyone to vote and if someone votes for 'no' that makes you curious? seriously GW2 fans are strating to scare me with their rational.
Explainigt heir no would only invite more wrath from fanboys around here.
Easy there on the hair trigger friend.
I just assumed that if you were on this sub-forum specifically dedicated to GW2, that you were probably following the game. And I was curious as to why someone would follow a game that they never had any plans on buying.
Then someone brought up that a lot of folks just scan the most recent posts on the main page and may have got to this poll from there instead. That made sense to me, and I was curious if the guy who said "no" got to the poll from the main page or if he was actually following the game.
This isn't some kind of fanboy inquisition...stop trying to make it into one.
I think people tend to forget that many of these posts end up on the home page under the Current Forum Activity section. So, you cannot assume that they are GW2 lurkers and could very reasonably be curious about the chatter showing up on the main page.
On paper it seems like an MMO that has been perfectly designed for me. I'll definitely be buying it. Even if it turns out not to be perfect (what MMO ever is at release?), the lack of a monthly subscription makes it a no brainer. I don't know why all AAA MMO companies don't make their games B2P. Just imagine how much more patient everybody would be with a game like SWTOR if there were no $15/month charge required to play it while you wait for them to fix Ilum, implement a better GTN gui, add more warzones and operations, etc.
When you say "confidence" I hear "arrogance". When I see comments such as "I know what i like", I instantly think of people who are close-minded and zealots. There is a large step from saying "I believe I will like it" to "I know that I will like it".
I will though ask: what is there to lose if you were to wait for the end of Public Beta before you make a decision? If there is no loss, why make a decision right now?
I've already played the game, and if it were to release tomorrow i'd be happy to buy it
You hear arrogance because too many people claim what they aren't certain, so the times when people are quite happy to say something from a stance of knowledge it is easily confused. I know i'll like GW2, that's not arrogance, that's simple knowledge.
Confidence and arrogance are close but with one subtle (and important!). The difference is one is from a stance of knowledge and one is from one of ignorance. It's a massively important definition. I'd be arrogant if i claimed i knew everything about GW2 and will love every last second of every last feature, because there's information we simply don't know yet. But i can be confident i'll like the game enough to warrant a purchase on day one. If you simply don't have a clue about what you enjoy, and you aren't a child, then you will have had a sheltered life! GW2 is basically in line with what i want from a game. Experience and knowledge tells me that, so yes i'm confident enough to say this game is something i want.
A parallel would be like saying: 'oh, i don't know if i'll like mass effect 3. I loved the prequel and mass effect 3 looks very, very similar but oooohh i don't know'. That's bollocks, that's just being afraid to say 'It's more of the same and i liked the last games, unless they screw something up this game is very likely to be fun for me' in case people try to refute the statement.
As for your point of 'i know what i like', you're using the wrong context. 'I know what i like' to dismiss something different i close minded. 'i know what i like' when looking at something which you do like doesn't. If i like something, and something is similar, i know i'll very likely enjoy that too.
So basically, context is important For the first situation, you don't know me, so you can't make a judgement either way. For the second you've misinterpreted the usage of the saying, reverting to what YOU think the statement always means. Which isn't true.
In a nutshell: If you know you like something, don't let other people tell you whether or not you're 'allowed to' yet. Same thing for not liking something. However don't say you don't like or dislike something without being sure - that means don't dismiss something before giving it a go first! Most importantly: It's your money that buys a game, rabid fans and rabid 'haters' will try to make you buy or not buy the game for their own strange agendas. Ignore both of them, do what you think is right
Absolutely, but then again that's not saying much, since I pretty much buy every new major title out there hoping one of them will actually surprise and delight me.

I'm excited about PvP in this game more than I ever have been. I came to MMOs from FPS games, and I have always loved strategic PvP such as capture the flag and control points. PvP in other MMOs I have played was just too one-dimensional to be exciting. I have a feeling, based on what I have read, that I will be spending many a loooooong night in GW2 WvW.

if gets dummied down like DCUO did for console's not just no but hell no, which i really really really think is unlikely so no one blow a gasket over my initial statement.....otherwise absolutely
I pre-ordered GW2 last year at Gamestop. Buying it or not was never a question for me, really, after having seen the game in beta and demos and researching professions and buying and playing GW1 to get some background story.
I guess I'm an odd duck. I pretty much buy and play every MMO that comes out (other than the ones that appear to be Asian grinders to me....and I might play those too if the post launch reviews inspire me). I'm a gamer....gaming is what I do with my spare time. I not only play MMOs, but SRPGs and casual games and adventures as well.
Sometimes a game will really grab me and I'll play it for many years (UO, EQ2, WoW). Sometimes I'll only play for a few months (how SWTOR will end up for me), sometimes I play even more briefly....it depends on the game, but yes, I pretty much want to play them ALL. I don't want to risk missing a real gem.
Having said that....I'm not big on buying into hype. If there is no evidence that what is being said about a game is actually true, POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE....it's pretty easy for me to ignore it completely. I don't go into games with grand expectations. I play for the sole purpose of having fun. If a game becomes "unfun" then it's time to put it aside....maybe forever (WoW) and maybe for just a short break.
I will buy and play GW2 and I will continue playing it as long as it's fun. I hope that it will be another long term "game love" of mine that will be chock full of enjoyment. But if not....like with all other games, it won't bother me if we have to part ways either temporarily or permanently. I feel the same about TSW and SWTOR, which I am playing now.
I will buy it. Will probably play it with few friends. Expecting to get few months worth of entertainment from it, the end-game does not interest me at moment. I like having better carrots or reason to PvP, gear ala most themeparks or resources/terrory ala EVE.
And no, getting achievements, titles and cosmetic gear is not enough to keep me there in a long-term. In fact, I care very little of any of those.

Dont know yet. I will decide after reading player feedback, opinions and reviews first. (not gaming reviews and certainly not from this site)
The fact it does not have a subscription, so I can play only a few days in a month if I want, does give me much more incentive to buy it.

The friends I've made that are still playing;
ANet´s reputation,
the fact that there´s hardly any good mmorpg around anyway and
that there´s no subscription
makes it pretty much a no brainer. I´ll definitely buy it.
