I can't comment on other servers and I won't pretend I know the republics real numbers, I can say today I've played about 8 warzones, 3 huttball 2 voidstar and 3 alderaan. Being that I'm imperial and one of the huttballs was against republics atleast from a pvp perspective its hard for me to think that my servers republics are dying off. I can say my ques for warzones have been popping more often since the valor gains were buffed on tuesday. I and what I consider to be a long warzone que is 5 minutes, anything longer then that I go off to do something while waiting, which by the time I get past the loading screen and onto my ship the que pops.
In alot of ways the republics have it better on my server, because there are less of them they are used to playing together the times I've seen uncordinated republic teams if very few, sadly it happens all the time on the imperial side.
To be honest after seeing a headline like that... If I owned EA stock I would be contacting the FTC and hoping they investigated the claims.
I'm not talking about TOR dying because to me that's just a side track topic. (I don't believe the game is dying to be clear).
However, I don't in any reality believe this game currently or at the time of the financials conference call .. or pretty much "ever" has had 1.7 million subscribers. Subscribers in this sense being someone who has paid a subscription fee... meaning to be a "subscriber" you have had to stay past the 30 days included in the box price.
Why would a CEO be saying most of those have stayed past the 30 days.. wtf...
1) Buying the box does not make you a subscriber.
2) If "most of those" have stayed past the 30 days.. then the TOTAL did NOT which means you don't have 1.7 million subscribers by your own statement. (even if you don't think that (1) is relevant... clamining you have something then saying you don't actually have it... when you are the CEO of a publicly traded company.... well its just stupid to be blunt.)
This is not a statement to us game players or the "doom sayers' .. its a statement to shareholders aka investors and a misleadingly worded one at that. Which is the exact kind of thing the FTC is supposed to jump all over.
What works for EA is that most investors probably don't have a clue.. and on the gaming front.. it just turns into a discussion of the game dying/not dying... haters etc... <- all of that is just the smoke that covers the real issue and that is the misleading statement to investors.
It's quite simple.
The end of january and today are very different. Having played the both times, I can say that they are two different experiences
Then why at the end of January was the exact same explination given? That most had continued on past their 30 days... Even then the CFO who later left NEVER said they actually ever had 1.7 million paying a subscription. So no its not two different experiences... its the same exact explination given at two different times.
*edited to add*
To be clear. When you go through any statement by Eric Brown from the time you indicate. Those only statement about actual subscribers you are going to get is: "most of those are paying".
All that the CEO said now is that... Most are past their 30 days.. which would translate to .. "most are paying" because you don't pay a subscription fee until after 30 days.
So the over all statement is exactly the same. The only difference is Brown can't make the statement this month because he resigned from EA.. shortly after making the last one.
I was under the impression that the 1.7 figure related to the end of january and by saying it today it makes it look like there is still 1.7 mill. As I'm still playing, I could almost believe that there was almost 1.7 mill subs at the end of january, but no way is there anywhere that number today!
I am in agreement with you despite my last post looking like it wasn't lol
Currently playing- SWG PreCU & GW 2 Have tried WoW, AoC, & Vanguard, SWG:NGE, GW, LOTRO & SWTOR Best MMO: SWG Worst MMO: SWTOR
The vast majority of the posters on this site have already refuted the original 1.7M claim so it obviously can't be true now either.
Right?
Ya, I'll take this guys word over the opinions of those posting here.
Nah posters here are just not gullible enough (any more?) to believe everything this or other CEO says. Shows some independent thinking imho.
We saw how capable they are in hyping and showing numbers before the release.
Heh, that has nothing to do with being gullible. The simple and straight truth is unless they announced a massive fallen playerbase or something that shines them in poor light you wouldn't believe. Period. That has little to do with you being 'not gullible'. It's more about not being objective and narrow minded in wanting to see only what you desire or more pointedly, what you 'believe' is reality. Whether one is or not is rather irrelevant. You only seek one truth and it is the one you believe in. Anything less than that is false in your eyes.
And in the end I still wonder...why the heck do people care so much? If you already decided it isn't the game for you the best you can do is move on. You only give it more attention with every post even if it is to fume. You keep folks looking, peaking their interest and curious.
Want to show independent thinking? Be like the other posters (much respect to you guys) who said straight up they don't like the game but congrats to Bioware and to those who do enjoy it. That' s a simple 'It's not my cup of tea but well wishes' and they moved on. That's an independent thinker and an objective one.
Heh. You know the truth? Congratz.
Yes I agree with you, I dont know the truth and I remain skeptic.
What is unfortunate is that if he came out and said "Hey guys, we're not doing so well. There's less than 300k people still subbed", you'd believe that and be all over it.
Wow and you know this as well?
Hmm but what if you are wrong? Imho you should be a little more humble about what you know and what not. Just a thought.
You people saying CEOs lie while true THEY DO NOT LIE on offical financial reports or to investors as often as you may pretend to think. You cannot lie about something so easy to find out the truth about. Do CEOs misrepresent themselfs sure ? But they do not outright lie about offical numbers. What they do is mix that data in with other parts of the company so no one notices that is not lying or illegal, but it would be VERY illegal for them to say we have 1.7 mil Subscribers and not actually have that number in one way or another. What do you people not get about that ? He is giving an exact number CEOs DO NOT do that for investors when it would be so easy to get caught.
Not to mention Bioware and this game are a fraction of EAs revenue and business interest why would a CEO risk his job and freedom over such a small part of the company ?
People who have been cancelled for days, weeks, even months but still have time on their accounts are considered "active subscriptions".
So yes, they can technically say "We have 1.7 million subscriptions", but they most definitely cannot say they have 1.7 million players. The sheer amount of dead/dying servers attest to that.
The sheer amount of dead/dying servers is none. You have no idea how many new subscribers there are either. It's not as if they stopped selling the game.
Log into the NA side during "peak" times, even on weekends, and glory in the number of "light" servers. There've been countless threads on the official forums for months asking for merges. Deny all you want, the game is treading water right now. And the longer they take to do merges and get the remaining pops all together so peole have others to play with, the further down the slope it's gonna go. Better hope a whole lot of Asians love Star Wars.
Light is not dead or dying. People were asking for merges when all the servers were completely full. It's not the sort of game that requires a full server to play. I'm not so foolish as to take what you say as fact.
Hey, you can wear the blinders as long as you need to bro. And you're right, it doesn't take a full server to play a mostly singleplayer game. But it takes a good amount of people on the server to justify it being called an mmo. And most of the servers in ToR no longer qualify.
-Letting Derek Smart work on your game is like letting Osama bin Laden work in the White House. Something will burn.- -And on the 8th day, man created God.-

Where are all these 1.7million players playing then? Kind of curious...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Yup numbers do not lie, but sure go spin it the way you want
One month ago there were still Full servers after they raised the caps, Just saying.........................
Except you aint telling the full story how many standard are there ? ALOT
Also NONE of you have any clue what heavy standard light means ive seen 200 people on empire side on fleet and 150 on republic side on juyo at 5pm the other day and it was still standard.
Yup numbers do not lie, but sure go spin it the way you want

Facts are facts the number of Full servers is almost Nil anymore where did all those people go, oh right they are kind hearted people and went to the light servers to make them standard. Now moving onto the very heavy we have 1-2 a night let me guess those people went to the other light severs as well to help fill them up, please get over yourself, server pops are declining.
Nice try but you failed, speaking of which why are you not playing instead of being here?
You're obviously biased and don't care about actual facts and its your view or no ones.
Fact no MMO retains over 70% of preorders and what you ignore is even if star wars retains 50% the game is a huge success. Unlike others I dont judge a game in the first wave I give them a few months and see if they go in the right direction and continue to grow and right now the game is going in the right direction with patches and content updates.
If you hate the game so much why do you continue to post in swtor threads over and over ? If the game isnt for you fine, but dont try and ruin the game for other people out of spite EA/Bioware owe you nothing they made the game for the casual player and the marketed it for that exact playerbase if thats not for you then move on and find a new game.
someone did mention something good another poster on another page but I would like to add to that.
First the other poster mentioned free trials , which is true. They can't differentiate the free trials from the paying subcriptions they will consider it the same.
Second point??? Well also if someone now that hasn't played the game goes out and buys the game and gets the free 30 day trial I bet you that count that person as a subcription as well. Even though he has his cc info in but is not actually charged yet. Do you see the type of spin they are doing here????
I would give you a guest pass to SWOTR, but then I wouldn't be able to find a way to live with myself afterwards....
dont get me wrong, i hope SWTOR succeds... but "the CEO told investors"... really? CEO's lie left and right.
See another one who just ignores and says they lie all the time lol.
CEOs lie to you and me all the time investors are not lied to as much as you think. Why ? Its fraud and if you get caught you go to jail for 5 + years have a felony on your record and get fired btw GL ever getting a CEO Job again. It just doesnt happen as much as people pretend it does.
And in the mean time Jp morgan just stole 1.2 billion dollars out of thin fricking air. The argument that these people are regulated is a fricking joke.
You know nothing of the economy if you're so naive as to think CEO's don't lie to investor's. No one is going to call them on anything and even if they did all a CEO has to say is that the infromation was given to him by manager's and that he only told what he was informed himself by his staff.
I amazed people are so naive. No wonder they can just take 1.2 billion out of the system and tell the congressional hearings "I have no idea what happened to that money".

They can and prolly will do that in the future numbers however these numbers were for the end of febuary, and the free trial came out this week.

Lol @ saying "Facts are facts" when leaving out a massive portion of the statistics when you stated them.
If there is 1.7 million I'm sure not seeing my server bristling with activity.....or most of the other servers....http://www.swtor.com/server-status 6:14 pm CST Most Light and Standard Worldwide
I'm one of the people who bought 6 months game time and is not even really playing anymore along with all my guild who quit. Be expected to see their 1.7 subs dropped after the 6 month mark...
Over all most servers of the 126 US servers are light to standard. You end up with 5 to 10 heavy during prime time and off an on you'll get 1 or 2 very heavy. Canderous Ordo hits Full sometimes I've noted. I tend to monitor the server page through the day and evening while doing other things. Checking every hour or so. Those who keep saying things are fine are missing the point that many of those standard servers were heavy at the start and the heavy and very heavys reached full often.
I assume like you and myself, many bought the multi-payment set up and though they aren't playing are still counted in that grand total/estimate that keeps getting bandied about. I will be curious to see where the game is by Oct-Nov. time period. I expect much much much smaller.
Wow another post full of people that say they have quit but keep making comment on the game, Hate is such and easy thing I guess, must of really burnt these folk to be this mad about the game.
Really? You read it as that we hate? I think the more realistic frame of mind or emotion might be frustrated or sad. There was a lot of potential to do this right and sadly they screwed the hooch by the numbers. It's almost like they followed a mission plan on how to screw up. So no, we aren't haters honestly. That is a pretty strong emotion to keep burning, for a video game or for most anything else in life for that matter. Hell I tend to think most of you don't even truly understand what that term really means, you bandy it about pretty lightly.
I think we have a valid reason to not be happy and to point out what we didn't like. You can go on back to playing it and having yourself a merry time, happy for you. But honestly you are wearing pretty big blinders if you don't even see a fraction of the issues with this supposed mmo-rpg.
Yup numbers do not lie, but sure go spin it the way you want

I think the biggest reason people are pissed is because they read everything that was being written about the game before release, convinced themselves the game was going to be something else and are now upset because they got what they were told was coming. I'm not sure how people were scammed. I read up on the game beforehand, decided not to get it based on that and now from everything I read it sounds like exactly what I was expecting it to be.
Why do i care how much money did they get from their game. What kind of stupid advertisment is this. The game is empty and they keep throwing lies to get people back. This is called pure failure.

Good for BW/EA - They will just never get anymore of my cash. Total disappointment and bait&switch in my books at best, not even close to a MMO.
Google John Riccitiello and Elevation Partners, follow the trail from there.
