I'd concentrate less on your self righteous pontificating and more on, oh, I don't know, anger management?

  • Tibberon26Tibberon26 Member Posts: 34
Actually I did get on the list.  And no I don't have an anger management issue, I'm just sick of people complaining that it's taking so long.  Those guys are working their asses off day and night to perfect this game and people are getting upset about how long it's taking to fix an issue that came up.  Yeah I think we should at least be able to download a client but that's up to Redbedlam to decide that.  We're 180 out of millions that won a seat in the beta lounge.

Alright, but this getting into beta isn't going to be all that special if we don't get to play the game before the mass public.

Frankly, I'm a bit curious why, if RB had such success with beta give-aways before AND they knew we were coming, they didn't have the so-called sign-up page ready for us BEFORE the names were even drawn. There IS a beta sign-up page, or commercial test application page, as it were. A rose by another name.

I've been lurking on this thread since day 1. It's been 3 weeks since we got the welcome letter from RB and over 5 weeks since we got winning confirmation notices from MMORPG.com. The contest was announced on 3 June! That gave RB a good 4 weeks before the final drawing to get stuff ready for us. The extra 4 weeks of the contest aside, we've been waiting over 5 weeks to get into a beta we were confirmed to be in. Kanoth coming in and saying sorry, be patient, and joking around with the winners doesn't really do anything for my faith in the development/CS team at RedBedlam. It's all just.... talk.

I'm definitely not worried about playing/testing/looking at RV. I've got things to do, I'm starting a new job in a couple weeks. It would have been nice if RV turned out to be my next MMO but that's likely not going to happen now. Sure, I'll give it a good shot when and if we ever do get in but I'm certainly not turning blue. Heck, I'd have died 4 point 5 weeks ago otherwise.

Good luck to RedBedlam. I really hope you make it. Really.

Guys it doesn't take 1-2 months to fix an issue... if it does, then I hope they don't have issue/s at launch...  poor guys will be the worst MMO launch ever.

Why don't you wake up? Like I said, there's no reason for them to let us in until it's good enough that we'll give it good publicity.  They could have easily gave us our beta information, had us sign up and then had us wait for them to fix the servers... they don't need to fix the servers and then give us our info.  They just simply don't want us on, only a few are complaining and the rest are battered down by people who are trying to be the righteous objectors to the complainers.  This has nothing to do with RB's ethics, it's simple business procedure.  You don't release a product until it's done, and letting all of us play is releasing it too early for public discussion.  Whether if I'm right or wrong doesn't matter at this point,  it leads no where.  I personally have lost faith and am not looking foreward to this title...  There's a certain point where you wait and wait, then you get angry because you have waited so long and you had faith/trust in something and expected(expectations are the sucks) something.  It seemed too good to be true in the end, and I think that's the story of their game. I didn't mean to put anymore pressure on them or make their lives worst but I have no sympathy since they did make this contest without eing prepared to smoothly transition it, which is bad business.

Good luck to RB and their games, but either A. they're doing this on purpose, or B. their team is too small to the point where individuals are overworked yet still can't get things done... either way, they can't compete at the rate it's taken to get things underway now...  They said in a post on their forums they were planning for a fall/christmas launch if they could make it.   Valiant effort by Kanoth to keep us alive, but I'm gone at this point.  If I receive an e-mail I'll be amazed.  I won't spread bad words at my job  because they're small(I work at a video game store), but if I end up not getting a letter or anything before the main stream public gets entered in...  you you can count on me making sure no one buys this game like I did with risk your life :P  (I had good reason for RYL, it's a  horrible game... I couldn't give away my year subscription they gave me for free for the longest time).

I am just waiting... When the email comes, it comes.

I guess the only problem I have is that I understand that there was never any guarantee about when we would be granted beta slots, but having a friend ask me about 2-3 weeks after the winners were announced if I had made it in with the new wave, since there were new testers coming into the game.

But, I wont lose any sleep, and still look forward to an interesting concept

That's the position I'm taking. I'm probably a little more oriented toward the irritated side, because I believe we should have been testing this game 2 weeks ago. But hey, I'm not losing any sleep on it.

I've been in quite a few beta's and I know that crap happens, setbacks come up. I also work in IT and know how wrong a large deployment can go even with something as small as user accounts. But the thing that really bothers me is that its just a account creation type issue. Now they have new people comming into the game now, which means the accounts can be created. The question is why are these accounts not?

I've not said a word through this from the start of this thread but in the End I have to ask myself if a small company really can pull off an MMO after all. If something small like this is going to create setbacks then what's gonna happen when it goes live?

Even SWG had a worst launch day with a near 100% failure of account signups due to the servers snafu and not handling the load. I have to ask myself even if these guys are here trying to keep us updated with "its comming" and "we are working on it" if that's really any different then the big guys saying the same thing.

I'm all for the concept of this MMO but at this point I'm wondering if this is beyone RB to achieve something stable and reliable.

That's kinda harsh but I understand where your comming from with that guy. Frankly personally fail or pass i'd care less about RV. Small companies in MMO's tend to put out substandard products, while some elements are innovative, very rarely do they appeal to more then a nitch market. Small, but tight communities, alot of the time the game play lacks. I'd like to see this succeed, but if it doesn't it won't affect me. None the less some questions still persist. Anyone who's been in computers and large enterprise deployments of systems, accounts, hardware and the like can tell you a problem that lasts as long as this is substantial and would point to either a serious lack of resources to resolve or a serious inability to resolve a problem due to lack of knowledge or know how to resolve a set issue, or even an unwillingness to do so. For me none of these point to a good gamming company. Communicating that they are having problems is good, but in the end talk is cheap. And like it or not, this plays to the future customers.

  • daveospicedaveospice Member UncommonPosts: 366

The thing is with RV's hype they shouldn't have such a small team... there's probably plenty of people out there that'd be willing to help out with the game.  Small companies are often a great opportunity for new developers to strike some experience in the gaming world.  Look at how meridian 59 got started, half those guys didn't work off any pay really but in the end it payed off so they were willing to work off little (or no pay).  The team can easily make it if they advertised more positions available, etc.  There's a huge fan base for this game it's just disheartening to see this.  I understand they're under a lot of pressure but you also know when signing up to make a game that there's a damn good chance that you might not succeed.  Often times it's directly a result of not forseeing things before hand (maybe inability to do so).

I do wish them luck, but I also don't have sympathy.  I don't know these guys, and they made mistakes here and mistakes there...  things they COULD have easily forseen and fixed.

anarchyart I wasn't panicing.  You guys let them walk over you with this contest.  You're just a bunch of sheep.  When I'm told I won something, I like to actually recieve what I won or otherwise it's no better then that spam mail you get in your inbox saying you won a million dollars.  All just a scam one way or another.  There's NO excuse for how long this has taken.  None, absolutely none.  You guys are just rationalizing why not receiving anything doesn't matter.  I do see it as a lack of integrity.  You see it the exact opposite, that's fine we balance eachother out.  Someone here needs to take the extreme stance so we can get all the perspectives of the situation in.  It's how you avoid being sheep in the first place.

    Hi folks!

First off, sorry I've not been by here much recently and please accept our sincere apologies for going quiet.  Rest assured however that the database problems we faced are fixed and were never critical - they did however require that we shuffle some priorities and postpone a client update.

Let me clue you in.  In short we have three world servers - somewhat imaginatively called Alpha, Beta and Gamma.  The Alpha server is here right next to my knee.  Metaphorically speaking its innards are hanging out all over the place and consequently it can only handle a dozen or so connections but it's only used by the dev team.  The Beta server is hosted at Jolt - it also runs our debug code and therefore it too is limited in the number of simultaneous connections that it can handle.  The Gamma server will run code that is closer to our live code but still has a bit of heavy debugging going on for load analysis amongst other things.

Currently, as per the plan, we have almost all game features working and fully operational on the Alpha server - but it's very buggy.  The Beta server runs with slightly less features but is less buggy.  The Gamma server will run with even less features but it'll be stable.  On top of that, the Gamma server will be made up of more, and much more powerful, physical computers so it should be able to handle many more connections than currently possible with our existing configuration.  Our strategy is to work on each feature's implementation on Alpha, then add it to Beta for a bit of intensive testing and then, when we're all happy with it, we add it to the Gamma server, where it needs further testing to ensure nothing has messed up along the way.

Now we wanted to add the contest winners in just as we made the Gamma server available - frankly we'll soon need its greater capacity to cope with the growing test team.  However one thing led to another and we kept having to postpone the Gamma rollout.  Now it's looking like it's going to pretty much coincide with a major client update that we're also about ready with.

So we've decided to wait until all the heavenly bodies are in alignment - in other words when both Gamma's up and the new client update has been patched out - before we let the contest winners in.  Please do accept my apologies contest winners but to be perfectly honest you haven't missed much - the test has been pretty spotty over the last couple of weeks largely due to us thundering around breaking things.  I'm afraid it seems that we're in obsessed with breaking things at the moment - the more we break now, the less breaks later.  You can get addicted to bug squashing.  I really can vouch for that.

Anyway, thanks again for the patience.  The client update should be patched out during the coming weekend and the Gamma server is due to be made available during the following weekend and I honestly can't see us letting much get in the way of those deadlines.

By way of a more substantial apology for the delay we'll issue a beautiful bronze shield to the Gamma server characters of each contest winner as and when they manage to finally join us in the game.  With a bit of luck I'll even let you hit me in the face with it.

    -KFR

[Edit: P.S.  Oh and don't worry, we're not expanding the team in the meantime - the contest winners were bundled into an existing pending batch that was waiting to be added back when the contest was drawn.]

I still think the contest is nothing but a big scam,  I still think we (winners) will not be let in before any others.

Im not saying that I will not play,  I sure as hell will play this game even if I have to wait an other 4 years, I still saying this will be the best game after UO before it went UO:R.

But I cant help it,  I feel like the contest was nothing more than a way to get this game even more hyped.

Sorry for my bad english and I will still be looking at my emails every day just to see if I got the beta invation.

Of course it was to increase the "hype" about the game. You think companies come to this site to ensure their games remains a secret ??image Talk about the bleeding obvious.

As for it being a scam... why dont you give your winning ticket to someone with some patience and understanding of the difficulties of Beta testing and development then you wont have to feel so ripped off...

Youve just had a detailed explanation of the issues from the highest level and its not good enoug for you.... If this was Mourning, Tiamat and Ego would have come on here and told you to STFU and threatened to sue you.... there is truly no pleasing some people...

We are all eager to get in... going on and on about it like some kid whining for a candy bar does nothing to help image
