Everyone who reads that already knows that Arenanet said they won't sell items that give an advantage like the uber sword of pwnage. The only people who will blow it out of proportion are those who dislike cash shops altogether and want to yell about it while fully knowing what was meant by the statement.
1) O'Brien left the door open for anything that isn't an 'unfair advantage'. Like a potion that gives just a 5% IAS/IMS for say, 30 minutes.
2) You can always get all stuff with in-game gold, so basically everything is 'fair'.
3) In competitve PvP, and high end PvE, such boosts will become a 'must use', and therefore, 'must bring'.
except that they don't have any of those pots. what good will an exp boost or a karma boost do you in pvp? and res orbs can't be used in any type of pvp, so they're out the window. what's to be scared of?

I doubt that there will be (enough) people who'll pay $1 for the amount of gold you'd get from a 3 minute stroll through the jungle. I think the rates will put you on a 2 hour farm to get a $1 equivalent in gems, or whatever the cash-shop currency will be. It's not ANet that will set these rates.
you're right. it's the demand of players that will. so how much demand do you think there will be after people get out of the grind for cap mentality?

You've got a crystal ball? You don't know what will or will not be for sale in the cash shop. We do know that no statement from ANet has ruled out the possibility of cash-shop items that boost stats - even though such a statement could be very easily made. I want them to make a clear statement, "there will be no items for sale in the cash shop that improve or boost a character's performance in game-mechanics"
They have not made such a statement. Why don't they make such a statement?

That depends on the need for the items. In Perfect World, where you can trade cash-shop currency with players and buy cash-shop items witout $, just as in GW2, they have cash-shop only 'charms' that basically are a 'must bring' item if you wanted to participate in any high end PvP or PvE.
You know, I want you to be right, this game has for too much going for it to be spoiled by the wrong kind of cash-shop, but I want to hear it in clear and unambiguous wording from ANet.
I cannot wait to thrash all you in WvW who buy these so called "must-have" items from the cash shop. How salty will you all feel that I didn't pay a dime, and yet still destroyed you.

Surely that cannot be true because any cash shop item is an instant I-Win button that cannot be defeated.
Just a reminder that posting or linking to or discussing specific leaked information about the game is not allowed, as it is under NDA. Any of that will be removed, unless ANet decides to reveal this info on its own. Until that point, it's considered leaks, and not permitted.

Sorry, I don't fall for cash-shop pots, you'll have to try to trash me without them. Sorry if that's not enough of a challenge.

Sorry, but I didn't sign no NDA's. If you have some agreement with ANet to censor specific subjects it's your job to do so, or inform us of the specifics, we aren't psychic and can't guess what topics might be censored. As far as I know we are discussing information on O'Briens blogpost and some facebook statements from someone from ANet.
Edit: to clarify, you could add a note like on GW2Guru which simply requests players to link to or enclose leaked content. That would be clear.

From the reaction to the microtransaction details announcement from Anet.....you'd think that was 100% true. LOL I'm going to try fighting dressed in appearance gear without stats. Surely I shall PWN HARD since it comes from the cash shop. And for hypotheticals here....say I drink an xp pot with that. ZOMG I will be UNSTOPPABLE. I will outlevel you by half a level while looking awesome. I WIN I WIN I WIN!!!

Ok so (once again) they announce that everything you can buy with gems/RM you can buy with gold.
But have they said that everything in the game can be bought and traded?
