I'm not and many of us Tera player already admitted that Tera quest stucks month ago, but its brought up about twice a week for since freaken cbt1, its stop been critcism and just start to become plain trolling/bashing. Omfg there so many fucking thread about htis from day of cbt 1 everyoen who bother to do ANY reserch at all would know. Even all the damn review say the questing isn't very good, so why the hell are people still making these thread every single fucking week? And the quest never gets better, well some of the new story quest form QoA part 1 was pretty nice but that doesn't really count overall. I and many other will still say hurdle is around lvl 20, do your first BAM and dungeon if you don't like it than you don't like the game. Its about 8hrs of game time which honestly isn't asking a lot to test out a game.
Because, like it or not, there are still a few TERA fans that argue the contrary, and they do it loudly. I'm still seeing posts about how either 'questing really isn't that bad' or 'lvling is fast, so it's not grindy at all' or 'every MMO has questing like this, it's not that big of a deal'. The info on the game gets distorted, especially from multiple people's differing viewpoints.
Furthermore, I've been told (since the last CBT all the way up to earlier this week) of multiple lvls after which the game is magically supposed to get better. I've literally heard anything from 'just get passed the tutorial island and it gets so much better!', to 'the game doesn't really pick up until lvl 20' to 'you really don't understand the game until at least 30', or 'lvl 30 isn't high enough to get a good feel of the combat. You need to be at least 35 or 40' or more recently 'you don't really get a feel for the combat in this game until endgame. That's when it starts to get good'.
I'm not gunna comment on how right or wrong those statements are, but when people keep using moving goalposts like that, it raises a lot of redflags & eyebrows. On the brightside, at least you guys don't have MMOExposed trolling your forums. Even when there's nothing being said, he feels the need to roll up w/ a post along the lines of 'Not very good. Btw kids there is no santa clause, and that's not your real mother. Just lookin' out!'
The two arguments aren't contradictory, you can believe both that the questing is not very good and that the questing really isn't that bad or the levelling is fast and not grindy at all.
So that's your justification for the posts? That you think that TERA fans need to be convinced of something, so you're on a desperate vendetta.
Here's why the questing system isn't that good :
Quest Hub System
Plain-Text Quests
Simplistic Story Lines
Fetch and Gather Quests
But, that is a staple of MMO's before it - There are very few MMO's doing anything other than this and that's what makes it not that bad or not very grindy because :
Quests give correct amounts of experience to maintain a good levelling pace
You aren't stuck in an area for a long time (ala, crossroads for a week)
Quests provide map markers and mob markers to clearly indicate what to do
All of this makes it so that the questing system isn't that bad, as opposed to other people who utilize it because they don't have good experience rewards and there questing system doesn't provide as much meta-information to help you complete it and because you spend long times in single areas.
You also receive certain quests automatically when you hit certain levels to guide you on your way.
You may not like Quest-Hub fetch and gather quests, but this is the best version of this particular questing style that I have seen.
But... are the people playing mmorpgs for doing quests? I thought that an mmorpg should have an competitive enviroment where you play with other people creating guilds who fight with others guilds to be the best of the community... o.O For doing something that you can't do in real life like participate in a siege, defeating a big monster while others are trying to kill you because they wanna the big monster too.. for example ( I know that TERA hasnt got all of this )
If I wanna play a game for his history or quests... I'll play one offline which always has a better storyline and quests <.< Seriously, when I read people saying this "quest are simple, quest are repetitive, quest are boring" omg, this isnt your type of game!
Are the quests in other MMO's amazing or something?
I think what a lot of these people have done is forget how bad MMO's were in the last thousand MMO's and decided to rate TERA's quests purely on how it relates to RIFT and titles that haven't been released yet (GW2 and TSW).
While it may surprise a lot of you, I wouldn't even like TERA with GW2's style questing. The only reason I brought up GW2's questing is because a TERA fan posted a question about it.
What I would have actually liked to see with TERA is a system akin to FFXI. With the combat system and the trinity firmly in place the game would have lended itself fairly well to the forced grouping mob grind with BAM, Dungeons and etc.
The traditional quest system here is not only poorly done it feels out of place.
Having something like the FFXI type of progression would have been enough for me to enjoy this game for a good while.
And yes, I'm a GW2 fan. However that does not exclude me from liking other types of games or gameplay.
Watching colddog and Tera fans is like watching monkeys making angry noises and flinging poop on each other. Petty arguments are petty. The moment GW2 fans entered this topic, thread should have been abondoned..but no we got to prove each other wrong on internet..it is a big deal.
I guess in this situation you are the observer that floats above it all and then flings poop at both TERA fans and... me?
It's a big deal.
No i am the observor at a safe distance from all the poop flinging and actually feels sorry for your petty arguments.
You..
No you..

By the way that 'its a big deal' comment makes sno sense in context of your post. I know you were trying to make a witty comeback like a 'boss', but that really didn't work out.

An observer from a safe distance ey? Are you perchance the Christian Superhero known as God?
farming bams is the equivalent of killing raid bosses but on a 1vs1 scale isnt that what you wow clones like to do bosses over and over again
Not really, raid bosses be droppin sick loot - BAM's be droppin random greens. You kill them for the quest XP and if there's a repeatable you can keep killing them.
OK let me say this first. I tried SUPER hard to like this game. I know its an asian mmorpg so i had a feeling of what i was getting into. My first mmorpg was ragnarok online and I played lineage 2 when it first came out and aion for about a year. Seeing that PvP is utterly broken in this game at least until max level, i decided to just concentrate on PvE for now.
So the first thing i was made to do in the starter island at lvl 1 was kill 10x trees or whatever. Fine. the combat system is interesting so i can just focus on enjoying that, plus the world and npc designs are pretty cool.
LVL 10: continue on doing kill 10x mobs quests. Nothing really else to do in the game, seriously. found out crafting is useless, the armor/loot drops are super boring, skills are almost exactly the same as my character in Aion, and the world has nothing to explore since its just a place where quest mobs spawn, nothing more. OK whatever, i will get to fight BAMs soon and my first dungeon when im lvl 20.
LVL 20: Nice!! get to fight BAMs now. theyre pretty big and cool and have interesting attack patterns. I do some kill 10x BAMs quest with my party to gain a level then do my first dungeon which is pretty much standard fare as mmorpgs go, nothing more nothing less. I start soloing BAMs for the next couple of levels mixed in with doing the standard "kill 10x normal mobs" quest grind.
LVL 26: Already sick of BAMs because they start giving crap exp for the amount of effort you have to put in to kill them. Much faster to just do the "kill 10x wolves" quest grind for the main and side quests. Tried soloing BAMs that was fun for maybe 1 level. Fought probably 5 different kind of BAMs they all have different attack patterns but its already so boring now. Equipment drops still are garbage and unexciting. Nothing else to do in the game except quest grind for garbage items and PK noobs in the starter town.
I am super disappointed in this game, it honestly is a step back from modern mmorpgs both eastern and western. If there is a game i could directly compare this to it would be Aion, and that game is like 5 yrs old and had a ton more content that this game when it first came out. This game is really a one-trick pony- all it had going was its combat system and that too isnt that novel if youve played other online action games like vindictus before. This game really is an empty shell of a game that currently has no real content in both the leveling phase and the endgame parts of the game. So disappointing. it would be borderline ok if this game was F2P but it is a box fee+subscription based which is just utter BS. See you guys in D3/GW2/Secret World.
well there is nothing different quest wise in any other game has far as i know..the combat is great,i love doin the BAM's .thing is,yes its grindy, probably more than most games.aion is the same imo.thing is even knowing it is grindy i still cant stop playing.dont ask me why but i love it.gusss it is down to personal choice.Gw2 having been in beta to me it was go here help out, move to next bit help out.not nearly as grindy.but saying that, that was early lvls in gw2 so i have no idea how it stacks against tera.thing is you dont have to do grindy quests in Tera, thats the point..i do some,i do the story, bam's ,dungeons,crafting,gathering..point is there is plenty different things to do in the game.
It was mentioned in the post. That guy was trying to tell me that.
But I'm not surprised you missed it. The hate is coming from you and other TERA fans, not the other way around.
I'm pretty sure it is the other way around. TERA fans aren't going out of their way to bash GW2 on the GW2 forums, but there are plenty of GW2 fans who are here bashing TERA. Normally I wouldn't even care about one game's players bashing another, but in this case the fanboi base of GW2 and thus the potential haters is way higher than it should be, due to the fact that GW2 fans are bored and can't play their game right now and that being teased with 3-day chunks of game time is only going to increase excitement, not decrease it. 3 days isn't nearly enough time to see the flaws of a game or get disillusioned with it. Hence, the huge fanboi base.
Here, I'll give you an example of some of the "pro-TERA" responses. If you can find similar responses from pro-GW2, go for it.
What exactly do you think you will be doing in D3/GW2/Secret World? Yeah I thought so.
I'm sorry, but having a story TOLD to me is hella boring. Nothing about that was dynamic, but static and scripted.
pre-ordered GW2, played beta, and I regreted spending money on this rubbish game
...aaaaaaaaaaand this is the part they try to convince you GW2 is the second coming of some mythological and/or theological figurehead that will remind you how GW2 is the best invention since slice bread.....
I think OP is being a bit of a wuss with the title of this thread.
GW2 combat is fake action combat.
Everything you just posted is wrong, and obviously posted by someone who is an unabashed GW2 fanboy.
GW2 combat is a spamfest.
Seriously? You GW2 guys don't even understand the fundamental way TERA is played.
Guild Wars 2 = fail fans who hate on Tera cause can't play their game even though they had to pay FULL PRICE for a shitty beta and become experiment pets for stress test and whatnot.
I have played both as well and your full of it only diff is you have let your starry eyes of GW2 fanboisnm cloud your mind tera's combat kicks the crap out of Gw2
Or you Gw2 fanbois can go back on GW2 forums and stop spouting off like tards all over every other game
But going out of your way to look for threads where people might be bad-mouthing GW2 is just pathetic.
You have to come in and defend GW2's honor! Laughable.
In his mind it was. Everything is about GW2 to these people.
I'd be shocked if you can find a similar amount of vitriolic misinformation coming from the other side. One side is stating their opinion about the quest system being a serious fault in TERA and the TERA side is calling everyone GW2 fanboys. Sometimes things go one way more than the other and in this thread, TERA fans are trashing anyone that has a single criticism about TERA.
Um, this is the TERA forums. Notice how you completely ignored the part where I said "out of their way." TERA fans aren't going to your forums to bash GW2, but GW2 fans are coming here to bash TERA. So yeah. Reading comprehension. If I wanted to I could find just as much misinformation posted about TERA here as you just quoted in your post (many of those were opinions btw, so they're not "misinformation as you call them.)
What exactly do you think you will be doing in D3/GW2/Secret World? Yeah I thought so.
WRONG! On so many levels. After tomorrow, I will be able to defend my point with examples from TSW. D3, ok yeah, but that's the nature of that game and it's NOT an MMORPG. Not sure why you included that. GW2, rofl, the combat is more tactical then Tera and questing isn't hub to hub, it's free form and flows with the world and exploration is ten times a factor. Tera is like MMO for babies in comparison.
OP is right though, Tera could have just given one long massive epic quest from level 1 to 60 and said kill XXXX of each creature per zone, here's a piece or 2 of gear for doing that thanks, now move to next zone and kill XXXXX. Why even have quest hubs, just have a massive clump of mobs from zone to zone, a la Dynasty Warriors where you just go off on creatures spamming attack buttons. The game is THAT simple.
Biggest troll hater on this forum - go back to Alpha Centauri sonny, I think those mind-worms messed with your head.
Rofl, attacking the poster, /sigh. What is with you people? Debate the game topic not the posters and how they "seem" to you just because you disagree with them. Troll hater? Really? Just because I dislike most of what Tera offers? Which isn't anything but shiny graphics and spastic combat? One trick pony, people, it's called a one trick pony.
Would be nice if we could stick to the topic, it almost seems like some are intentionally trying to derail to get this locked.
Now the questing system in TERA is fairly bad, most would seem to agree on that point. The question would be then how do you improve on it?
Some see it as nothing more than a means to reach endgame where the fun starts, but that doesn't help the game out in regards to longevity. If people spend a good deal of game time not having fun but keep getting told it gets better later, they eventually leave. The main game is going to have a more significant impact on retention than endgame. Many simply won't make it there.

add some variety really.. i enjoyed the defend chick by the bridge quest in the starter island but don't remember doing any of these after that during my playtime. Need a big decrease in use of quest hubs and not having to run back and forth to the same location over and over and over.. really for me it just needs more variety, more escort types, more defend this types, some puzzles possibly, just needs more substance but the game obviously wasn't designed with this in mind so doubt it will change

this guy was doing nothing but rushing to get to max lvl u can tell cause one thing there is not kill 10x bam quests.u also notice he doesnt say anything about combat, teaming or even graphics.
everyone knew even before ob that tera has traditional quests. none of the moves look like aions moves cause aions moved are static and not fluid moving. he oblvisouly(god i cant spell) didnt realy pay atttention to the game

Automatic grouping for BAM quests.

You say you're not a troll hater and then immediately afterwards describe Tera as nothing but "shiny graphics and spastic combat. A one trick pony." I mean you're in basically every thread coming up with new deragotory ways to describe the game without debating it on it's merits. I really just wanted to make an alpha centauri insult, regardless every post you make is massively exaggerated you pull facts out of thin air and you've barely if at all played the game.
I've gotten a sorc to 25 and an archer to 29. I've played quite a bit. It's boring and not engaging. TO ME. That ok with you? For someone to not like your game? You like it, great! Have fun, I just joined the thread to agree with the OP and suddenly, folk like yourself take it upon themselves to insult anyone who disagrees with or has a negative opinion with their game. Seriously, that's sad.
Here watch how it sounds "YOu are a troll, hating on Alpha Centauri. I think those BAMs have bounced your head around a bit much and now you've got jelly controlling your thought processes." See? Not really pertinent to the convo or fair to your opinion of Alpha Centauri.

That isn't a troll hater. You people need new words to define people you don't agree with. Troll is someone who purposely riles people up just for fun and has no real bearing on what they are trolling. Hater is someone who HATES. negative opinion does not equal hate. Dislike is a better term. Again, stop attacking ME, sheesh. I could care less what you say about me, but you guys in doing so are getting away from the topic and making yourselves look silly.

My issue is not that you joined this thread, but that you join most threads. I don't care that you don't like the game, what I find odd is that after quitting the game you continue to make posts complaining about it so often.
As you'll see I haven't gone out of my way to insult people who aren't troll haters, but still dislike the game.
Alpha Centauri is a good game, I do like how you've chose arguably the most annoying character in the game as your portrait.
Your comments aren't meant to constructively criticize the game, but merely to criticize it.
What exactly do you think you will be doing in D3/GW2/Secret World? Yeah I thought so.

Name-calling is a no-no, but as for the "one-trick pony" thing, it's not that hard to reduce any game to "one-trick pony status" you know, especially if you ignore the other aspects of the game and place a few choice adjectives in front of the ones you do choose to talk about. Hey, GW2 offers insignificant dynamic quests and makes PvP a CoD-style e-sport lobby! Rift offers lots of rift events! SWTOR is a really good single-player gameset in Star Wars universe! Wow, they must all be one-trick ponies!
I've gotten a sorc to 25 and an archer to 29. I've played quite a bit. It's boring and not engaging. TO ME. That ok with you? For someone to not like your game? You like it, great! Then take what I said and turn it into constructive criticism, because I don't see the difference. My critique IS the constructive part. Tera developers would look at my post and say, "hmm, he doesn't like anything in the game except the graphics. Maybe we should add more MMO conventions or new ones to the game to get him back."
Which brings me to why I post at all in a game that I dislike forum. I'm not above coming back in a year or 2 and changing my mind. It's happened for me before with Lotro, EQ2, Vanguard and a few others, and I fully hope it to be that way with SWTOR and Tera.
Would be nice if we could stick to the topic, it almost seems like some are intentionally trying to derail to get this locked.

I've been playing for a bit more than a day. My Lancer is now 50, my archer is now 36 and my Warrior is now level 22.
And it isn't arrogant for me to say that most seem to agree the questing in TERA isn't that good because it does seem that way. The majority of those I've spoken with in game and out seem to have no qualms in agreeing with this. That doesn't mean most or everyone does agree, it simply means it seems that way from my own experiences on these forums, in game and on the official forums.
And actually a complete revamp may not be a bad idea, it may be something they should poll their comunity on. Personally in this type of game I would rather Mob grind than quest grind so that I could get more time with the aspect of the game that I do enjoy which is combat. Group or even more solo Mob grind for me would be more prefferable than the current quest grind.
Comments
The two arguments aren't contradictory, you can believe both that the questing is not very good and that the questing really isn't that bad or the levelling is fast and not grindy at all.
So that's your justification for the posts? That you think that TERA fans need to be convinced of something, so you're on a desperate vendetta.

Quest Hub System

You aren't stuck in an area for a long time (ala, crossroads for a week)
Quests provide map markers and mob markers to clearly indicate what to do
All of this makes it so that the questing system isn't that bad, as opposed to other people who utilize it because they don't have good experience rewards and there questing system doesn't provide as much meta-information to help you complete it and because you spend long times in single areas.
You also receive certain quests automatically when you hit certain levels to guide you on your way.
You may not like Quest-Hub fetch and gather quests, but this is the best version of this particular questing style that I have seen.
Open your eyes, hater.
Hi
At the end of the day if your not having fun and find the game a grind then the game is not for you move on, try and find a game thats fun for you..
Im sure tons and tons of people really enjoy tera and dont find it a grind at all..
Well, soz if my english is bad....
But... are the people playing mmorpgs for doing quests?
Hi
No i am the observor at a safe distance from all the poop flinging and actually feels sorry for your petty arguments.
You..
No you..
No you..
You...
*rolls eyes*
By the way that 'its a big deal' comment makes sno sense in context of your post. I know you were trying to make a witty comeback like a 'boss', but that really didn't work out.
An observer from a safe distance ey? Are you perchance the Christian Superhero known as God?
If so, why haven't I won the lottery yet?
Hi
I am too busy using the umbrella to bounce of the poop (yeah they got some range), i will get back to you soon.
farming bams is the equivalent of killing raid bosses but on a 1vs1 scale isnt that what you wow clones like to do bosses over and over again
Not really, raid bosses be droppin sick loot - BAM's be droppin random greens. You kill them for the quest XP and if there's a repeatable you can keep killing them.
Hi
well there is nothing different quest wise in any other game has far as i know..the combat is great,i love doin the BAM's .thing is,yes its grindy, probably more than most games.aion is the same imo.thing is even knowing it is grindy i still cant stop playing.dont ask me why but i love it.gusss it is down to personal choice.Gw2 having been in beta to me it was go here help out, move to next bit help out.not nearly as grindy.but saying that, that was early lvls in gw2 so i have no idea how it stacks against tera.thing is you dont have to do grindy quests in Tera, thats the point..i do some,i do the story, bam's ,dungeons,crafting,gathering..point is there is plenty different things to do in the game.
So how can this be fixed?
add some variety really.. i enjoyed the defend chick by the bridge quest in the starter island but don't remember doing any of these after that during my playtime. Need a big decrease in use of quest hubs and not having to run back and forth to the same location over and over and over.. really for me it just needs more variety, more escort types, more defend this types, some puzzles possibly, just needs more substance but the game obviously wasn't designed with this in mind so doubt it will change
I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. If I buy a candy bar at a store, oftentimes, I will drop it... so that it achieves its maximum flavor potential. --Mitch Hedberg
this guy was doing nothing but rushing to get to max lvl u can tell cause one thing there is not kill 10x bam quests.u also notice he doesnt say anything about combat, teaming or even graphics.
everyone knew even before ob that tera has traditional quests. none of the moves look like aions moves cause aions moved are static and not fluid moving. he oblvisouly(god i cant spell) didnt realy pay atttention to the game
The questing system in TERA is an improvement on the par for the course design, I won't suggest that most people agree with that because I don't have the incomprehensible arrogance to pull an opinion out of thin air and then suggest a guaranteed majority agreeal.
The systems only needed improvement are :
Automatic grouping for BAM quests.
This is the system they built, unless you want a complete revamp you won't be happy with any changes made. A lot of the people complaining haven't played the game for anymore than a day.
Hi
You say you're not a troll hater and then immediately afterwards describe Tera as nothing but "shiny graphics and spastic combat. A one trick pony." I mean you're in basically every thread coming up with new deragotory ways to describe the game without debating it on it's merits. So yeah, you basically define yourself as a troll hater in this very response.
Hi
Name-calling is a no-no, but as for the "one-trick pony" thing, it's not that hard to reduce any game to "one-trick pony status" you know, especially if you ignore the other aspects of the game and place a few choice adjectives in front of the ones you do choose to talk about. Hey, GW2 offers insignificant dynamic quests and makes PvP a CoD-style e-sport lobby! Rift offers lots of rift events! SWTOR is a really good single-player gameset in Star Wars universe! Wow, they must all be one-trick ponies!
