lol. so you say you had play both game and that say this???? loool.
i play both games and GW2 is by far more hard not only compared with TERA but with any other MMORPG i have try. Tera i play until lvl15 and i never die ( i usually never die until enter a dungeon. in GW2 i reach lvl22 and i die, die , die and keep die (no im not a MMORPG noob) but if you have really play GW2 you know you will die a lot because need a lot of skill, coordination and DE bosses some are a nightmare. (this on lvl5-7...).
Tera combat is very fun but is more simple to avoid damage of mobs and you dont have to do much tactical game because is really easy to avoid mob attacks (at least until lvl15).
obvious you didnt play GW2: " click on target and spam buttons so no skill require is same as all other buttonsmash mmorpg we know for years." xDD
i liked the Tera combat and the graphics are amazing (the character design i hate but the world is beautiful), the problem is the fact is P2P game and the quest are really boring, but is a great MMORPG.
Artifical hardness is nothing to brag about, in Tera you can avoid the dmg if your good. GW2 artifically make it hard doesn't matter if your skilled or not its going to be hard because you can't dodge good half of the attacks. That is hard but not the ones i want. I want it to be hard but if put in the work it be easy not something thats be hard no matter wtf you do.

That's true... in GW2 you can't dodge half the attacks, at least. You need to be smart enough to do something else to mitigate or prevent damage.
The quests are grindy because most of them involve killing X of Y. This isn't a big secret, and hasn't been from the start. My suggestion: Group up with people as much as possible. You can kill BAMs, farm dungeons, and do main storyline quests pretty much to level cap if you can find yourself a good group of people to level with.
The game has a lot of old-school MMO flair to it, where the best stuff you accomplish is by grouping with people. That's obviously a problem for some. To me, it's a good thing, and what a lot of MMOs are missing these days.
QFT
I was playing today, group with a party for a BAM quest and we ended up sticking together for a whole zone, swept through the place very quickly indeed.
Tera also offers a nice selection of options to group. LFG chat channel (global), Area chat channel (local), LFG system (can customise level range, start your own group, etc), and Instance Matching.
Yeah, in no other game does this happen...
I am just minding my business questing, some invited me to group, we see someone else and invite them, eventually we have a four man party and quest together throughout the entire zone. Then we did all the BAM quests together and ran an instance.
I've never grouped so much "solo" leveling as I have in TERA than any other game...
Also @ Rezx, you make a good point, the first time you fight a BAM it's hard and you practice to overcome the challenge until eventually it's easy and you feel accomplished by knowing your good.
When you can walk up to a basilisk your level and solo it with ease, it's awesome, then when you take on two at once, it's the best. :P
In WoW no matter how good I was, I couldn't beat hogger if my CHARACTER was not "skilled" enough, because it's just not possible. That's not fun to me.

so are you saying im a Tera god player? almost no mob couldnt do any significant damage, was really easy to kill them. everytime they atack they gave a "sign" easy to detect easy to avoid ( as i say i only play until lvl15).
as volkon say, in GW2 dodge isnt the most important thing to do to avoid damage and this is the reason why GW2 is a much more tactical game.
in Tera you dont need almost any tactic because you only need to dodge. another thing GW2 dont have tanks what make even more tactical game.
but as i say the combat of Tera was vey fun and that isnt the reason why some guys like me didnt like the game. was the grind fest (cant deny) and lack of good story. i need to say again the world graphic was really amazing, very beautifull indeed xD
both GW2 and Tera combat are really huge improvent compared wow and wow clones and both are much more fun no doubt
so are you saying im a Tera god player? almost no mob couldnt do any significant damage, was really easy to kill them. everytime they atack they gave a "sign" easy to detect easy to avoid ( as i say i only play until lvl15).
There is a thing called learning curve, just because your used to mmorpg doesn't mean everyone else is. Game get gradually harder as they go so people can get used to the new combat and control. If you play mmorpgs before than yes the first 30 lvl is super easy, but for those who haven't they get their time to learn. One fatal weakness of monster hunter was the retardly sharp learning curve where you pretty much after the first 2 mission you had to die over and over and over and over until you get it right, great game if you can ever make it past the entry barrier.
What does having tank and dodging means no tactic? Tanks don't just stand there and take dmg, mobs will move if you tank can't keep them on him and be able to postion them correctly your party will wipe. And dodging isn't spamable, ifyou use it at the wrong time your dead as well against bosses and later mobs. End game dungeon bosses will 1 shot most cloth, 3-4 shoot leather and about 6 shoot heavy armor. If there is no tactic you be dead before you get the boss down to 90% hp.

i ddnt say Tera didnt have any tactic just less than GW2. this isnt a bad thing, some prefer that way. with tank you need less tactics because tanks will get agro and take the most damage.
i came from a long time play on LOTRO and i know the big diference between have tank class and dont. that is the big diference on combat betwen GW2 and Tera, on GW2 no one can tank mobs. (never play before a MMORPG without tank/healer classes).
Gw2 and Tera as i say both are great, both are fun, but when i read things like: GW2 is not tactical when GW2 is all about tactic i need to say something xD
GW2 has better mechanics than TERA and is trying to innovate way more I can't argue that point.
But saying that the tab-targetting in GW2 is any way, shape or form comparable to TERA's action combat is pure moronic and makes you guys look laughable (even MMORPG comparison admitted that point if you cared to read it).
TERAs combat is lightyears ahead of not only tab-targeting games but also putative action games like c9, vindictus, raiderz, etc
Both games are fun (weekend event for gw2 was amazing) but TERA is incredible despite its grindy nature and all because of the combat and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that! Let GW2 innovate and let current FUN design persevere as well!
But there is no comparison to be made between any game with tab-targeting (including gw2) and TERA in combat. I had a good laugh seeing people justify that.
Now if you compare GW2 to SWTOR I will concede that GW2 is more tactical. But TERA? Stop the fanboyism please.
Despite all the prons of GW2 over TERA, GW2 combat feels stilted and tab-targety and TERA combat feels smooth and uninterrupted. like DMC or Bayonetta.
Combat-wise, TERA blows every other MMO away to different planets - that's how much better it feels.
Watching colddog and Tera fans is like watching monkeys making angry noises and flinging poop on each other. Petty arguments are petty. The moment GW2 fans entered this topic, thread should have been abondoned..but no we got to prove each other wrong on internet..it is a big deal.
I guess in this situation you are the observer that floats above it all and then flings poop at both TERA fans and... me?
It's a big deal.
No i am the observor at a safe distance from all the poop flinging and actually feels sorry for your petty arguments.
You..
No you..
No you..
You...
*rolls eyes*
An observer from a safe distance ey? Are you perchance the Christian Superhero known as God?
If so, why haven't I won the lottery yet?
LOL, not even God is safe. Just think of how many times the fans of [insert game name here] have pulled out the old "second coming of christ" line...
BTW, that, friends, is a strawman fallacy, and I would appreciate it if you would kindly stop telling people we (guild wars 2 fans) think of GW2 as the second coming of christ...
while I am on this topic, something that you might have noticed is that GW2 fans tend to defend their game. This is largely because of habit, as we have ALWAYS had to explain the game mechanics to other people, whether it be because they just don't think the game works like we say it does and want clarifications or because somebodies opinion on whether certain features should be in the game gets in the way of them understanding what GW2 is trying to do.
I played TERA back in 2010, and I knew then that the combat was fun (GW2 was more fun fore me though) but quests weren't my thing. Nothing new here, so its time for me to move along and see if there are any other threads with an abundance of logical fallacies (the reason I read TERA threads).
I used to TL;DR, but then I took a bullet point to the footnote.
Thats what you will be doing in GW2 so I wouldn't ask lol.
D3 and The Secret World, yeah quests won't be much better.
So good luck with GW2. I pre-ordered GW2, played beta, and I regreted spending money on this rubbish game. In contrast, I pre-ordered TERA, played beta, and I'm very happy with it. No regrets whatsoever. I'm very happy to pay 15/month for a quality game. I won't play GW2 even for free - just waist of time.
Don't get offended. Someone asked a question and all I did was answer it. The explanation was accurate and shows a much more indepth "questing" system than what you will find in TERA. Nothing more, nothing less.
[mod edit]
games are always matter of everyones personal likings its a fact and we all tend to slightly like different things. how bizarre?!!? no future mmo is gona do anything so much differently cause the grind needs to be there in order to maintain players to keep playing the game.only thing that matters in grind is that you find the grind you personally like and agree to play with.

Opinions might be subjective but some things are just objectively impossible to interpret like some people do.
For instance, I am not going to argue that TERA exclamation marks and static NPCs and lack of dynamic events are superior to GW2 dynamic events, automatic joining, loot and xp for everyone etc [mod edit]I know that GW2 mechanics are actually innovative.
In the same vein, you cant even attempt to pit GW2 in the same category as TERA in combat because TERAs is simply much BETTER! When they say TRUE ACTION they actually mean it.
[mod edit]
Oh and story-wise, TERA, SWTOR and GW2 are all BORING. That's not what any of us are there for. For that I play ME3 while you continue to argue which version of "boring" is superior.
If anything, TSW is so much better storywise than all three.

Every game, GW2 included, gets easier the more time you put into learning it. GW2 is very deep that way, maybe you haven't played it. Tera fans have a huge problem with people enjoying GW2 combat more than Tera's. To call GW2's difficulty artificial is kind of dumb. Even in the limited time I played, the game became easier, and unlike Tera, it didn't start out holding your hand for 20 levels through flowery fields of cotton candy animals. One lvl 1 boss later, you were sent out to sink or swim. And yeah, it's hard. But not because you can't dodge attacks, it's because you're given limited resources and have to use those resources intelligently or die trying.
Thats what you will be doing in GW2 so I wouldn't ask lol.

i have to comment , i did say something negative in MY personal OPINION about this game after tried the beta and i got one day ban to paradise island. so it seems that sometimes you can express how you feel and sometimes you dont.

2 things we agree on are
GW2 - "quests" are better
TSW - Story is better
while we agree on those points, things like combat are still subjective. That in reality boils down to the classes you play in each game. Playing a lancer for example in TERA leaves much to be desired in the "True Action" department, while playing Warrior or Slayer lends itself better to the "True Action". Same applies to GW2, playing something like a Necro which felt typical to me like the lancer did in TERA is different than what I experienced with Engineer which fell in line with the "True Action".
Mechanics wise combat in both games is innovative and they share many features, neither rely on tab targeting for Melee. Range in both games still have the ability to use "homing" skills (TERA has abilities that paint targets to home in on them, some abilities if fired when mob is in reticle become homing missles still).
While both innovate in the combat area the only reasons I pick GW2 combat over TERA's are 1) Pace of combat and 2) Skill selection. In TERA it's still traditional skills while in GW2 is more about utility.
If questing were done better or if the FFXI style of leveling was the dominent one in TERA I may have found myself enjoying the game, the game itself isn't bad as a whole but sadly for me it's the meat of the game I don't like. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like most are interested in a discussion on this, the bulk of the thread is a battle between GW2 and TERA fans which burries much of the discussion. So with that, I hope those enjoying the game as is do so for a good while. That wasn't meant to be sarcastic.
Tera PVE leveling experience is quite underwhelming, guess what?
So was WoW, Aion, Lineage, and so on.
Tera is designed around endgame, and that's where it will be either made or broken, it's designed around old school principles with a brand new combat system and that's what they offer you.

Well damn, I thought it was level 20+ it gets better. Lol, wait till end game for a game to be good. I can understand that though, as it never got better for me, in the 37 levels I played in beta. Why make a game so unappealing until supposedly end game. Terrible design choice.

It's unappealing to you! That doesn't mean that it is to other people. I for one am thoroughly enjoying Tera. Although, I do agree that the quests do get a little stale but that happens to every MMORPG I have ever played. You just have to break up the monotony every once and a while and go do something else.
The thing that I think sets Tera apart from the pack is the PvP. I haven’t had this much fun doing PvP since my old UO days. If you haven't played Tera on a pvp server I recommend you give it a try. It may change your mind.

The level gap makes to much of a difference in PvP. PvP doesn't really become PvP until level cap. 1 level difference is enough to skew things. Pre-cap it's about ganking, you gank me, I gank you, we gank some other guy, some other guys gank us.
Level > Gear > Skill
PvP isn't much fun for me if the other guy doesn't have a chance and vice versa.

I disagree that it's built around endgame. Right now there really isn't an endgame to play even, although some things will be put in soon.
If you don't like the game around 25 you're probably not going to like it ever. Myself, I've been totally immersed and really having fun all the way up to my current level of 49.
So, I disagree it was built for endgame. I do agree that generally PVE leveling is underwhelming. What I don't get is how people favor like levels 20-30 in say WoW or SWTOR over 20-30 in TERA. I mean what MMO had amazing leveling in the early and middle levels? In TERA, there's always a new environment and story events every couple of levels and dungeons every 7 levels or so, as well as BAMs to do whenever you want. Compare that to any other themepark.

thats the problem. there's nothing to do in the game other than quest grind to level or gank noobs (somehow killing people repeatedly that cannot defend themselves has gotten pretty old to me).
Most memorable games: AoC(Tryanny PvP), RIFT, GW, GW2, Ragnarok Online, Aion, FFXI, FFXIV, Secret World, League of Legends (Silver II rank)
Thats what you will be doing in GW2 so I wouldn't ask lol.
D3 and The Secret World, yeah quests won't be much better.
I'm sorry, but having a story TOLD to me is hella boring. Nothing about that was dynamic, but static and scripted.
D3 is essentially a much more dumbed down version of Diablo 2 with WoW-type oversimplified polygon models with low-res textures in a massively MORE linear gameplay system than was in Diablo 2. Boring to say the least, and not up to par with 2012 releases.
The Secret World is still in beta, but I can tell you from what I've experienced it's nothing better than SWTOR pretty much. I can't go into more detail until NDA drops !
Well that is the thing. The story is not told to you. As shown in that video 50% or more of what is going is not only some thing you have to actively look for but may be something you would have to go to that event multiple times because multiple things are happening at once. And some of these brnach off so that you may not always see the same script oafter an action.
Is the game scripted? Yes. But like I said before, so is every single game in existence. Anything that tries to do anything other than simply give you something to use is using scripting on the NPCs.
We just don't have anything else. When you invent it let us know I would be interested to see how it works.

I can honestly say the only MMO I have felt was fun right from the beginning is Guild Wars 2.
Every other one follows what Holden says here I find them pretty "meh" up to about mid level. Generally this is because they are RPGs and for an RPG the combat is about how you use and synergize your abilities and they don't give you enough to do anything interesting. LOTRO was really bad about this. A number of key class abilities or traits that radically altered what you could just weren't available until like level 40 out of 50.
At least Tera is action based so it should lessen this effect.
And in general Guild Wars 2 has the same problem. It just gives you other interesting things to do with the events and you can get enough stuff to make an interesting build really early (about level 7 maybe two hours of play). Not even close to a full build but its at least decently interesting.
With the way the quests are in this game, seems to me it'd be a lot better if they at least offered the viable alternative of some oldschool grinding, public dungeons, and the like. With the emphasis on combat, why can't we just focus on fighting, instead of running errands all over the place?
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
Problem with being designed around endgame is you are going to lose a whole lot of players due to boredom, especially with other alternatives out there. I don't want t o play a game that takes however long to reach cap, then start having fun. Without the hook in the beginning most players wont stay. Combat is fun, but gets old really fast. And if combat is the main foucs, make it 1 player and have no sub.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't. That is the current environment in that regard.
Most people want a content model that is fresh. That doesn't mean radically different but just that it does not entirely match their expectations.
With the way the quests are in this game, seems to me it'd be a lot better if they at least offered the viable alternative of some oldschool grinding, public dungeons, and the like. With the emphasis on combat, why can't we just focus on fighting, instead of running errands all over the place?

Pretty much, Tera works great if it was more grind based but even if lvling was fast people call it a korean grind fest and never try the game. You add quest in people complain about quest been boring and it should be more grind for its combat. Either way some people won't be pleased XD
The first 20 levels are sooooo bad but after that you get access to BAMs and dungeons n stuff which is a lot more fun than quest grinding.
Edit : You can level by grinding BAMs (ff11 style fights) or by doing instances. Havent done a quest since I reached 20

Oderint, dum metuant.
[mod edit]
games are always matter of everyones personal likings its a fact and we all tend to slightly like different things. how bizarre?!!? no future mmo is gona do anything so much differently cause the grind needs to be there in order to maintain players to keep playing the game.only thing that matters in grind is that you find the grind you personally like and agree to play with.
