I'm in the same boat as you OP. I even tried to embrace the fact that this game was initially conceived to be a basher, but really, lvl 21 now and I've been doing the same fracking pattern all over the last 6 hours :
- click NPC, accept quest
- click map, see where I have to go
- run into packs of mobs, hold left mouse button to autoattack & build mana, push 4 (or 5) to do slightly higher damage, hold left mouse again until cooldowns return
- run into another pack of mobs, rinse & repeat, but for another quest
- go back to NPC, receive xp, talk to NPC next to him, start all over.
This is just pure lobotomy. You don't even have to think about a strategic skill choice during combat, or min maxing, the only brain activity you got is dodging.
How can they charge 15$ / month for that ?

The quests are boring , on the other hand a game like Shadowbane did not even have quests it was a total PvP world without any PvE quests but with tons of monsters to kill, the greatness of that game was the open world PvP and that is what makes Tera fun. I would never play Tera on a PvE server, PvP is the only way to go in this game. I never read the yellow trash quests . I do however follow the story quests and if you do this it makes the game go by faster and the story more interesting. I would like to see crafting improved it takes like a year to make something usefull and alot of time is spent banging your pick axe futually on a rock. I think joining a guild is important in this game as playing solo kind of sucks. That being said Tera seems to be an endgame PvP mmo, that will prob be where most of the enjoyment comes from. 1 thing I really like in this game and a game like Fallen Earth is you get a horse quickly, nothing more relaxing or fun than galloping although in FE you had to feed the Nag which I liked, its kind of like in my house, I have to feed the Nag every once in a while or no fun for me later!
I ran like hell from this game when I saw the oversized weapons and over exaggerated combat moves just like every Asian game.
With it being an Asian MMO and having the combat system it has I think many aren't surprised it's a grind, I think whats surprising them is that it's a quest grind. Me personally I would actually be enjoying the hell out of this game if it were a mob grind like Old FFXI.
Awful quests grind with "Action" combat to get to endgame vs. Mob grinding with "Action" combat to get to endgame. Tell me this game didn't cry "Trinity based party Mob grind"
I think some people might actually like the game if it wasnt so obviously designed as a hamster wheel. A good mmo is a game where you dont notice the hamster wheel, a bad mmo is one where all you see is the hamster wheel.

Western mmo aren't grind? the only reason you don't feel it is because there barely any western mmorpg. All the old ones are grind, even WoW is a just gear grind, Rift is gear grind, SWTOR has no end game so not much grind there. i know LOTR is more of a grind than some asian grinder.

lol Yeah, that's how I think of it, and why I'm excited about GW2 and the ideas it will spawn. In most MMOs, you
- see the mobs
- can interact with the mobs
But are they really dangerous? No. They stand there waiting to be killed. The mobs in GW2 actively attack and take over zones if they're not culled. That's the BIG difference that got me excited about the game in the first place and since beta, I saw that it was implimented just like it should be. People have said from the start, if you don't mind the questing setup, then Tera is a fun game. It's just that, at this point, a lot of people ARE tired of the same questing system and I think if Tera had come out later than GW2, its combat system wouldn't be the only thing people mention as a great feature.
Thats what you will be doing in GW2 so I wouldn't ask lol.
But for D3 , yeah quests won't be much better.
The guild wars 2 dynamic events were boring as hell in my opinion so to each his own. I agree wthe the poster below you I think TSW is actually on to something their quests are hard, fun and actually make sense for what your doing.
Example: Town is overrun by zombies, everyone is taking shelter in a police station. Cop asks you to get supplies, wood for baracade, food to eat, ammo etc. So how do you do this? It has to find phone books which you use to look up addresses of stores, figure out where on the map that is then you go out there and fight your way to the stores to get the stuff.
Pretty simple and nothing to ground breaking its a gather X amount of stuff quest, but it makes sense and so you actually don't mind doing it because its how you would probably do it in real life.

Well most people really like the GW2 DE. It's not fore everyone. I personally am tired of grabbing a bunch of quests in the generic mmo without even reading them, looking to the right side of my screen to see what needs to be done, and then unceremoniously grinding my way through completing them. Now that is boring...
TSW gave me nothing new except for the skill system which I really liked. There was no real challenge to any of the mobs or completing the quests. /shrug
Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

That is only removing quest markers and making you find the quest location. Thats the only difference. Its the same quests as in other games...collect X at location Y.
In GW2 the only difference in the quests is that the location is either pointed out on the map or it doesnt even start unless you are at the location already...either way, the collection quests make sense and fit in with the area. Heck as stupid as the quest was, going through piles of poop for berries so you can breathe underwater made sense in WoW.
The berries are the type that COULD be eaten and passed undigested by the animals in the area...well heck, if only they removed the quest marker...oh wait, at the time that epac was released there were no quest markers in WoW, you had to read the quest text to know WTF to do. Guess WoWs quests were on par with TSW then. Oh wait...no phone book to go find to read...doh!

What exactly do you think you will be doing in D3/GW2/Secret World? Yeah I thought so.
You cant compare Tera to GW2 and TSW. Tera is not a strong MMORPG. Its just an MMO. I dont really care for Tera but there were some cool things I wish other games would bring back. One being the Healing by camp fire. Miss those days.

one thin is gear grind other is lvling up grinding. and between Tera and LOTRO a can asure you is a huge diference betwen them. LOTRO quest are good, epic quest amazing.
TERA quest are all the same and boring but because combat and graphics are very good people can live with that. LOTRO more grind than some asian grinder??? can you name one?
Played tera till level 18, and i cant play it anymore. Tera was just my last Korean MMO, dont gonna make the same mistake again. I say it before, but the game have only 11 servers, and just 2 of them are ¨heavy¨, everything else is normal and low, wait a month, and even worse when the PvP update will come by the end of the summer.
There was nothing new that he listed in the games quest other than having to find the location.
Needing wood and supplies for people hiding is not a new concept just because they are hiding from zombies in a police department. Having to look inside a phone book for a location to find the items is no different than having to open up a journal or codex in another game outside of having to go to a phone book to do it.
They are minor changes. Note that I did not say a thing about them being different from the norm in games that hold your hand with a big flashy pointer telling you the quest location IS HERE!

Some LOTRO quests require few hundred kills, i can name quiet a few f2p game that never reach those number in term of quest.
And what make you say there isn't gear grind in Tera? End game PvE is all gear grind, you grind normal lvl 60 dungeon and hard mode lvl 58 dungeon for T12 equips. once you get enchantable ones you need to get them all to at least +6 than you move to grind the hardmode lvl 60 dungeon which has low chance of droping T13 enchantable or T13 recipe. And hardmode have 6 hour cd. Not much different from gear grind in all other games. You farm for gear to progress to harder ones for better gear.

Yeah, LOTRO got super grindy at times. And the epic questline really wasn't much better than the story questline in TERA, it just happened to tie into some better lore. But they are really similar. Many of the story questlines in TERA end up in a dungeon or single player instance, just like in LOTRO. Which is a good thing.
No you can't compare them because the other two aren't out yet.
First thing that many MMOs fail at is simply working. Then it comes to working as intended. Then it comes to if the intention was fun or not.
Both GW2 and TSW have to release and pass both those tests. As for right now, I'm hearing mixed things about both.
TERA is out and it works. It works just like it's supposed to work and then some. It's a solid themepark PVE MMORPG with some new innovations especially with the combat. You either find that fun or you don't.
Like most people on here, I'm pretty burned out about with the questing system in PVE games. I don't really get why it's coming under such fire suddenly with TERA like it's any worse than the ones before, other than TSW and GW2 are PROMISING to handle quests differently, and they're coming out sometime this year.
I agree in sentiment with the MMORPG community as a whole. Basically we all think WoW sucks or are bored with it and want something really new. The game looking forward to is Archeage, because there has yet to be a really good fantasy sandbox. The things GW2 and TSW offer don't seem different enough to get me really excited.
For me, combat makes all the difference, and gameplay is king if it's going to be a themepark. TERA's gameplay is more like an action game, which is a real innovation that works and is fun enough to keep me playing.

The same thing was supposed to happen in Rift, but it turned out to be mostly an annoyance after a quest hub had been taken over a few times.
I agree in sentiment with the MMORPG community as a whole. Basically we all think WoW sucks or are bored with it and want something really new.
I don't know about that. I don't think WoW sucks, it's just that WoW does WoW better than any clone of WoW can or does, which is why most MMOs fail to interest me. GW2, unlike Tera, remakes the questing system from the ground up AND adds fluid, action combat in addition to WvW and no gear checks. These are all things that are important to me, combat included, which is why I choose GW2. I don't think Tera is going to offer enough for most people who have been waiting forever for something better.

Uhh.. I played GW2. I don't recall there being any quest "hubs". The DE's are the hubs. If there's an event going on, it doesn't cover up anything that you can't fast travel to in another area. Someone was mentioning how people who don't like Tera are impatient (and immature but we won't get into that); is it any different if someone couldn't take part in a DE to get a vendor working again? GW2 still offers plenty of alternatives, and without the need to mount up and travel 5 to 10 minutes to a different area to do so.

contradiction starts with CON for a reason.
How can you be burned out on PvE questing and still think Tera is solid when it has the most bland quests? Oh wait, you called its combat innovative. The only thing special about Teras combat is its dodge ability which not new...or innovative.
There is nothing solid about an MMORPG with a really really bad story, bland less than average crafting, no depth to item/gear...it doesnt even have PvP rewards! In fact, there is no point to PvP other than having PvP.
Calling Tera solid is like stating Funcom has a solid release record of MMORPG games...just has no basis in reality.
Guess it all comes down to how low your bar is set to.

Well, I think TERA does WoW better than WoW, minus the battlegrounds, raids and Arena (which were later implementations), because of the combat. I was never into raiding anyway and the scheudling requirements if you were serious about it.
And I don't know how you can "choose" GW2 over TERA when GW2 doesn't even have a release date yet. I choose Archeage over TERA based on the features it promises to have working.
MMOs are my major hobby because the town I currently live in sucks and there's nothing to do. So of all the game that are actually out right now, TERA is the best.
I really hope the DE thing works out and GW2 is great both for you and because then I'll play it. Like I said before though, Rift's rifts were kind of the same thing (mixed with Warhammer's PQs), and while both were really cool and fun at first, they were revealed as gimicky after awhile. I'm wary.

I'm wary.
