Frankly every reason you guys have chosen to heckle TERA about was a poor one to choose... there are PLENTY of problems with the game.

funny because every review I have seen pretty much for TERA talks about how bland and uninspired the story and questing aspect of the game is

    some examples

    Presentation
The story is uninspired and utterly bereft of characters actually worth caring about, and voicework ranges from mediocre to downright embarrassing.

TERA’s atrocious mission design. It’s a ‘Worst Of…’ compilation of MMO questing. Kill 10 of a thing, collect 10 of a thing, and my personal favourite: talk to a guy, who asks you to talk to a guy, who asks you to talk to a guy, who asks you to kill 10 of a thing.

the questing is seriously some of the most derivative and boring we’ve seen in a while.

    citation please?

This is plagurisim, you cannot copy others works and not say where this is from.

look up the definition of plagiarism I never claimed this to be MY opinions which is what plagiarism is.. also I replied with my sources above

it does not mater if you claim it was your works or not, as you included it in something you posted it is implied it is your work, you MUST cite or it is plagurisim.

That was taught in highschool, that is still taught in college, its a very serious crime.

If meeting many asses can be considered a fault, then yes indeed.  Note, I did not quote or respond to you in that post if that was why you responded.

I dumped TERA less than a month after playing it, the story and questing are just WoW/Clone rehashes that are nice material to get me in the mood for bed. In fact the last few days of playing it i used th game to make me sleepy. But, since we are required to show proof from other peoples reviews i will include the following for TLM.

http://www.gamespot.com/tera/reviews/tera-review-6377135/  Tera's fun combat has an immediacy that keeps you hooked for a good long while in spite of the game's bland questing.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/05/25/tera-review  Tera's non-combat elements (quest structure, crafting, story, PvP, etc.) feel woefully behind the times – like vanilla WoW as opposed to post-Cataclysm WoW. It is, to be frank, the Big Foot of massively multiplayer role-playing games. Sure, it'll put up a hell of a fight if backed into a corner, but at the end of the day, it feels like an out-of-place missing link – not entirely stuck in the past, but definitely not ahead of the curve.

http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/6/22/3089973/tera-online-review  TERA injects some much-needed adrenaline into MMO combat, but fails to improve on anything else.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/9625-TERA-Review   TERA (The Exiled Realm of Arborea, to be precise) is a game that might revolutionize the way people play MMOs, if not for all the ways in which it doesn't.

http://www.tentonhammer.com/reviews/tera  Once acclimated the process of the actual gaming is conventional: follow the trail of NPCs that offer quests, perform said quests, continue to next area. This breadcrumbing has become a standard in modern MMO games and there is plenty of it to be found in TERA. What lies between the quest turn-ins is what elevates this game from the unremarkable to the unordinary. And that is the combat.

http://www.gadgetreview.com/2012/05/tera-review.html    Unfortunately though the combat and the art stylings are the best parts of Tera. The lore is completely uninspired, and I found myself just clicking the accept button on quests without even reading them after the first ten hours. Maybe I got spoiled by The Old Republic with everything being fully voiced, but even the parts that were voiced here were voiced poorly. Another thing that irked me were the sheer amount of “grindy” quests in Tera. Pretty much every one was “Go kill X number of Y”, or “Bring X to Y”, with very little variety on those themes. At first it isn’t a big deal, but after hour twenty you really start to feel the grind, and you realize that it isn’t going to stop until you hit max level.

So yep there yah go, as with most who have played TERA the quests and lore are dreadfully pedantic and droll. I am sure the laughing man can feel the lore and quests are amazing, and thats his right to, but the majority of players and journalists/bloggers feel it just plain sucks.

No biggie, TSW will be a great game and so will another i will not mention.

TLM, i hope you continue to support the game you like, weather it be TERA or BATMUD, or whatever else lies in between.

Played both and wont move from Tera to TSW. TSW combat is so bad in comparison.

What you do 90% of the time in a mmo ? Combat ? So how some people think combat isn't important ? No matter what game, quests will be boring.

The combat is what matter unless you are looking for a new chat tool to chat with friends instead of gamming.

The next MMO will be awesome. Until people reach the end game.

I have decided to choose real life over Tera and really every other crappy game that has come out recently... looking at you D3. I will just continue to wait for GW2 as after I play in the BWE no other game is even remotly satisfying.

Combat animations and expressive "feel" have massively improved since early Beta's and they are due to be even better by launch because Funcom divine management have revealed these are only place mat animations. Same with character customisation that will be improved for official launch.

Yes combat is important but goàd combat can not mask other serious problems like generic questing and grind at end game which can put even gold farmers to shame.

They have improved over the betas I've played. Hopefully they continue that progress. I do agree with Chris that I generally find the guns (pistols and rifle) the worst part of the combat in TSW. The melee combat has definitely improved though. I'd like to see a more weighty feel to the combat though, like AoC had.

I don't think there are too many place holders left, so even if I might be a raving fanboy, I think what you see now, animation wise, is what you will get 95% of the time after launch. You can usually just go with another weapon if you think for instance Assault Rifle is looking bad, there is a huge variation in how the animations look between all the abilities and weapons.

I actually enjoyed a lot of the combat, however, every single friend I got to play who is playing TERA with me could not STAND TSW, every last one loathes it :-(

One of my friends couldn't even get past the character creator, the models in their opinion looked like a "PS2" game.

If they are ugly, be aware that a cash shop is there for a reason. Funcom learn abit from CO. About overall graphic, you did max everything out right? CAn your card handle it well?

was on ultra with full settings 1900x1280  60 FPS.  Looked terrible.

Edit: The HAIR doesn't even move in this game... its sooo plastic and static (the world)

The Story feels like its more on rails than any game I've played in the past 5 years.

don't see how you figured this since the zones are setup where you don't have to follow any set path.. yes if you ONLY follow the story I suppose but then you wouldn't really progress enough to be strong enough for the later zones. SWTOR was WAY more on rails than TSW.. hell TERA questing is more on rails than TSW. TSW has the most open zone design of any recent themepark MMO I can think of thats already released that is.

You can skip entire zones in TERA, you can not quest at all and just grind, you can do repeatables, TERA is less on rails than WoW or SWTOR, and way less on rails than TSW.

TSW the instant you start the game you are led from place to place to place with no real options on where to go just which quests to do first.

Actually in TERA you can either do the grindy quests, grind, or repeat the grindy quests.

In TSW most of the quests are interesting and there are very few quests that really feel grindy.

Tera has become a ghost town in the EU and all the guilds are dissolving - whether due to Frogster or not, it means there is no one to play with. I don't play MMOs to be alone.

I know people who are going to get TSW and play it. Many of them were also disappointed, but at least we can all go play it together and see some new content.

I am usually lenient when it comes to MMORPGs... and know that every one of them have their positives as well as their negatives. But if the negatives (whether valid reasons or pitiful excuses) outweigh the positives too much, and forces people to leave in droves, that is when I usually end up leaving as well. Like you said Grey, no one likes to play an MMO by themselves, especially if a game feels like a ghost town 90% of the time.

TERA hands down the #1 reason in Europe is because of Frogster. From recent rumors cropping up as well as Knoxxer's comment from the recent Redddit interview; it seems that BHS is extremely unhappy with how Frogster has handled the game so far. But the damage has been done. The couple of folks that I know that play the game have also told me that most servers (over at EU) do feel like ghost towns most of the time.

lol well sorry to let you down but I'm going templar also the super fan boys would probably disagree with you on my "passion " for this game :)

I can't really compare the two myself. For whatever reason nothing about TERA interested me. Odd really. Think it is one of the few mmos I completely passed on. Even gave my beta key away without checking the game out.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I am not ready to jump boat yet.

I think it's best to check in 4 months later to see how things are going.

If I fall for it the 3rd time, then shame on me.

    Same.

Tera has just way too many supermodels running around. It's like playing with certain Skyrim beauty and armor mods... after a while you just want them to look like normal people and put some bloody clothes on!

TSW isn't perfect (self-heals off assault rifles...really?) but I like the character development  innovations... and the atmosphere, modern setting, background music and NPCs (loved that hippy camp) create a really interesting game environment.

Cancelling one and subbing the other today.

TERA is a great game. I didnt renew my subscription that just expired yesterday because I have trouble finding groups. I play a DPS and the queue times is bad at lower levels, and leveling alone can get boring. HOWEVER I think the game is getting some injustice from this topic and it needs a bit more defending.

The game has fantastic graphics the combat is excellent and the game seems to be well made. There are an abundant amount of quests once you get past the early early levels and you can choose which areas to go to because there are so many. The game is not really on rails as bad as some other MMO's.

    Current MMO: WoW/GW2
