I think this type of controller (with that wired extension joystick) will really make FPS games a whole lot more enjoyable. I am looking forward to controlling movement in one hand, and controlling my view and weapons with the other. I think the possibilities are great with this. Ive also been hoping that something like this would come out someday. I never forgot playing Duck Hunt for the first time with the light gun, I still have it too.

I like the concept and it seems like it is going to pwn in some aspects. At first I thought wtf, how do u use that thing. I think the buttons for your index finger will be a lil tricky to learn. As soon as I saw the video I was like ohhhhhhhhh.... but for real how many times could we swat flies or fish like that, wouldn't you rather acctually go out and fish and get a fish. The baseball seems cool and maybe they will make a golf one. Playing zelda will be a different experience but the analog stick does look like the n64 and the gamecube controllers analog stick. WHY COULDN'T IT BE WIRELESS? I was really hoping for nintendo to step into the new era and go wireless on both controllers cus wut happens if you swing too far with one and it pulls out the plug or breaks it?

One big question tho is when we swing a sword in a game will it follow the controller exactly or will it have a certain amount of preset weapon swings that just activate. I think if it follows it exactly it will be a lil crude and won't get the full feeling of free movement in a game.::::28::
    I wish nintendo good luck

I keep waiting for Nintendo to say "just kidding!" This makes no sense. They want to bring in non gamers by making something that is sure to turn off non gamers. All I know for sure is that I have no interest in waving a controller at my TV to play games, and with the decline in Nintendo's franchises, there is absolutely no reason to waste money on a Revolution.

Are they doomed to handhelds? Nintendo's handhelds are VERY popular (for anyone that looked for a DS last year, like me, you know what Im talking about >.>) and Gameboy Advanced is still holding the record for the most sold system ever. Gamecube did horribly though, and to be honest, Nintendo just doesnt understand that systems arent supposed to be original. Originality is in the games, and they had that going with the new Zelda. This is going to be a flop, as Nintendo has yet to make a statement on online play.

That's a pretty ignorant statement if you ask me.

I mean really, Nintendo only came up with the D-Pad configuration (which others ripped off for years), and the analog controller (and we all know that didn't get ripped off by the competition, right?); you are sooo correct--originality for video game systems is a stupid idea image

When it comes to major controller innovations, Nintendo has pretty much led the way with everyone else following suit. While it is correct to assume that no one will be able to tell whether this idea will work in the long run, it's not really wise to write it off without even trying it first. Honestly, do you really want to be playing games the same old ways 5 to 10, even 20 years from now? Most of the genres we enjoy so much now would not be around at all had it not been for hardware innovation. We'd still be rockin' out to Pac Man and Space Invaders.

Exactly. This controller will definatly be revolutionary. I cant even think of the all the new game possibilities it will allow for. It was also a good call to make a conventional controller as well for games that would be better without it.

Ah, then let me reword that. The Gamecube had no innovations in gaming whatsoever compared to what Playstation 2 had to offer. The Xbox didn't have any original features either but it could do everything a Playstation 2 could. Gamecube didn't even try: the system was a Nintendo 64 with better graphics and small disks instead of cartridges. The DS had two screens, one of them a touch screen, where the Playstation Portable had phenominal graphics, specially made DVDs and you could hook it into your computer and download things onto it. The Nintendo Revolution plans to be online... wow... something that PS2 was planning in 2000.

    If it werent for PS2....
    1. Consoles might STILL not be online
    2. Watching movies on a console system probably wouldnt be out
    3. Both of the above apply to handhelds too

Let's pretend Gamecube had the sales PS2 did and drove the market:
    1. We probably would be stuck offline on consoles and it probably wouldnt have even sparked interest for it in the Revolution
    2. Our future handhelds might have touch-screens...?
    3. Movies? DVDs? I hear Gameboy Advance can play Nickelodeon 30 minute cartoons. Kill Bill? Forget it.

Nintendo did alot in the past for gaming, why can't they do all of that now?

Im curious as to whether this design will decrease injurys due to games( i.e. sore wrists/fingers, etc.) or increase them (like beating your friend with the controller when playing a medival fps or something).

Correct. Nintendo always was different from the others. Always original.

Gargantroo, I am slightly angered by your statement but have no choice but to agree on some things except online. I know ps2 was first but it sucked, and stilld does. Xbox was the big innovator in the online race and was fathoms ahead of ps2's online. Also xbox was different in some of it's own rights. Hard drive! along with other small features like better graphx.

Nintendo set the bar back in tha day, they have dropped the ball recently but it seems like that only to the older audience, if you asked a younger audience (that wasn't influenced by older audiences) then one of the more popular systems would be gamecube. Nintendo might not have aimed for the younger audience with gamecube but thats what they got.

I think revolution is gonna be a way better eye toy. PS is gonna learn suntin from nintendo in that department and look at tha freakin size of tha system man, its not like its the football ps3 or hulking xbox, its a revolution and thats what it will do create a new way to think about games rather than the same cookie cutter formula that is followed today.

When the president of Nintendo held the thing up high.. it looked like he was showing the world the first douche he ever used. (you know, with the little tail out of the end.. just.. I can't get over how stupid the controller looks)

I wonder what the old president thinks of the controler?

It looks like a remote... unless for some reason you think remotes look stupid. If youre going to make fun of a controller for looking stupid, then attack the PS3 controller ::::07::

You know...the could have made a little grip or some customization to the Reveloution's controler. I mean, what if that stick slips out your hand in some intence gamming...

Actually wasen't the dreamcast the very first console to have online?

I usually stay away from consoles because pc gaming is enough for me but I might actually consider buying this. I respect nintendo for taking risks and trying new things.

Aye.. PS3 controller looks idiotic as well.. it looks like a frickin' batarang. I think I'm better off just plugging the same ps2 contrller into the 3rd (hopefully) so I'll be more at home.

EDIT: http://gfx.dagbladet.no/pub/artikkel/4/44/443/443527/kontro_art5.jpg BEHOLD, the douche.. -- Nintendo President.

    If that doesn't work..well.. I guess I won't have much of a choice, now will I?

I don't see how they will get any third-party support. I like the idea...only as a seperate release package. This is a risk that is not in Nintendo's favor.

We arent discussing small features like graphics right now, or else the Revolution's controller wouldnt be an issue. Also, the change in graphics between the two was very small and I am referring to huge innovations, like the switch between 2d to 3d instead of the difference between graphics that most casual gamers dont even notice anyways (as I'm sure most people on PS2 don't even notice the sharp pixelated edges like most hardcore gamers do). Xbox's hard-drive, to my knowledge, was hardly utilized at all. What could you do, save games without a memory card? Hard-drives will undergo MAJOR innovations in the next gen. systems, maybe after that, I dunno, but Xbox and PS2 were practically the same system and Gamecube fell behind.

I'm all for remotes, but you don't use them for games.. I mean.. there's already a ps2 controller out.. been out.. imagine using 'that' to play Max Payne or something.. I think not sir..

  • gargantroogargantroo Member Posts: 1,477

PS3 controller looks like you can play a game with it. I'm not saying that it looks stupid. The PS3 controller is ugly while those remotes are trendy and come in all 3 primary colors. The thing is, when I'm playing a game I'm not going to look down and say "Ew! Im holding THAT!?". No, I'm going to complain about how comfortable it is to hold. That remote looks like it will be very frustrating to play a game with.

Uh, you would use the remote like a mouse using it to look around, and use the analog for movement. It would be way better for FPSs aiming wise than a clumsy analog stick.

I think there is a LOT of confusion about the controller.
I was lucky enough to talk to a guy who had tried it.
It is buggy in its current state, but he said the games were fun.

But what really floored him was metroid.
The guy I talked to plays a lot of fps, and really likes the keyboard, hes also like me and is crap when playing fps on a console... its just hard to control.
But according to him, the Revolution is amazing.

I personally am looking forward to it. It has the expansion slow for extra controls. And the whole idea of moving it around with your wrist to control just sounds too tempting.

So many people think that its just a plain controller, with no buttons, they miss the whole part of the motion detection and how it monitors your angles in both x y and z.
SHould be interesting to see if there really will be a fishing game, becuase you can cast with the controller.
Also apparently, aside from the bugs, the flying was really cool too.

I decided to purchase a Revolution after watching the video demonstrating how the controller works.

If nothing else, my purchase will help support innovation in areas other than graphics.

XBox and ps3 are in a stat war. Whoopidee shit.

Nintendo is doing something awesome: Advancing the way we interact with games.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby
