I can see why the game is not charging a sub at launch. Its missing many basic QOL and functionalities of a standard MMO and its got some serious issues.
...
Hope they can fix some of this stuff before launch, but I'm not to sure they can get even half of that stuff done. Guess we'll have to settle for another sub par MMO launch. Like I said earlier at least they aren't charging a sub.
Anyone know if brac777 has even played GW2 during the BWE's??

He says he has, and the only reason I doubt it is that he said he played in BWE #3 and was frustrated because he couldn't find a group for the dungeon. Not saying it's not POSSIBLE, but you'd have to really do nothing but rush it up to try out that dungeon in BWE3, am I wrong? Maybe I just got caught up in the game itself and you know..had fun and stuff, but it would seem to me that hitting up ascalon in BWE3 would be nigh impossible, dungeon finder or no.
With that being said, he also claims that he's pre-purchased and is going to play the game, which baffles me considerably as he clearly doesn't seem to enjoy the game much at all. Once again tho, Tera man..he luvs him some Tera.
I looked around a bit and it seems you can't swap pets repeatedly in combat. Already knew you cant keep swapping weapons there is a cooldown on all the reasons people have stated for macro's. I personally use a controller so i have no problems swapping weapons or using my f1-4 while triggering any other abillities but maybe some would find it useful who play with mouse and keyboard.
The first swap is instant guy, no gcd. So to spell it completely out for you.
Macro would look like this.
/cast pet swap , **Gain quickening zephyr for 2 seconds, acting fast is of the essence now* /cast channeled longbow or any other big damage attack, /cast autoattack
Another ranger macro that would be useful. /cast pet swap , /cast pet range pounce. Would give you an instant knock down. Vice hitting those abilities one at a time might take 500ms or longer.
Or for engineers to keep constant regen and might up. /cast equipmedkit , /cast equipweapon.
Or for warriors , /cast buff , /cast buff, /cast bull rush.
Or whatever other combo. There are a ton of abilities that don't have a GCD and macroing them is just more effective and quicker.
No need to guy me but thank you for finally giving an example. I am actually glad you brought it up and agree that criticism is a good thing.
Well, it is somewhat sad that Tera didn't do so well. I mean, for a little bit (just a little) the combat is actually fun, but everything else about the game just sucks. Just like SWTOR, Tera made all its bet on one mechanic while forgetting about everything else. Hopefully games such as SWTOR and TERA will encourage other mmo devs to remember to focus on the game as a whole rather than just one or two mechanics... I'm glad Anet devs had and continue to have a wholistic approach to GW2 :-)
GW2 is starting to produce a community that can be compared to WoW with all these fanboi answers.
The GW2 community is actually worse than WoW. But really, reading this thread and many other threads, it really shows the mentality. It looks like an average GW2 follower or fanboy played WoW for 2 years, got bored, then finally discovered something new - GW2 (TOR, Aion, WAR, AoC before), and now begins to insult anyone who is sceptical about GW2 by saying "shut up and stay in WoW", which is exactly where the GW2 fanboy will eventually end up once the GW2 hype diminishes.
These players are in constant denial, they think they are something more than a regular WoW player, but it really seems that GW2 community is mostly consisted of actual WoW players that naively fall into hype every 6 months whenever something big is about to be released.
**EDIT** Also, for those of you so rudely requesting that brac return to WoW, if you'd look into his previous posts you'd clearly see that he doesn't in fact seem to enjoy wow too much, but has a raging hardon for Tera. That is all.
Interesting... for being such a Tera fan, I'm surprised. I wonder what he will do when (not if) GW2 out performs Tera in every which way.
[mod edit]
Actually wouldnt' consider myself a GW2 fanboy, i'm pretty okay with calling faults where there are faults. [mod edit]

Nope just putting out good info, thats what I do. People need to know this isn't the next coming of MMOs, and it is going to have issues at launch, bugs and missing key features, and possible broken key features such as PVP Qs etc...
One of the few things that makes me worry about GW2 is the fact that people like the OP are going to play it and whine on forums ad eternum to try and change it to be more like all the other games in the market.
People are just too brainwashed into playing the exact same game over and over....
The one thing I'm a little bummed about that was sort of mentioned by the OP is no mounts, but not necessarily the mounts, but the extra speed.
I do like that there are a bunch of different speed boosts, always preferred speed from spells/songs like in eq/daoc, but they're so short duration here and capped at 33% (mostly). Kind of annoying. probably always have speed from the various effects, but just seems a bit spammy in that respect. Not a huge issue I guess with all the waypoints (not my favorite thing), but would prefer something a bit longer lasting and faster, especially for pvp.
A buggy BETA? Who would have thought? Honestly, I couldn't be bothered to respond to the original post because that little fact that somehow surprises the OP. Funny enough, I encountered all of 1 bug the entire BWE3 and absolutely no lag in combat, regardless of how many people were WvWvW-ing.

you didn't have to go through all of this to piont out this isn't the next coming of MMOs.
the front page has a list, and unless i'm reading it wrong. the next coming of MMOs is
anyways, one thing people need to consider about communities that are zealously defending a game right before release. many people on this forum who are fans of GW2 aren't playing an MMO right now because we either don't want to invest time in something we're going to quit in 20 days, or we don't want to invest money in something we're going to quit soon.
so we sit around chatting with spouses, friends, browsing reddit/facebook whatever.. relaxing and reading forums. a particularly hot forum is the one about a game we are waiting on!
obviously the Tera community isn't going to pounce on every little thing you say about their game because they aren't waiting on their game to release.
point is, its nothing special about this community. the community is just a bit large. we're no more vile or saintly than any other large mob of people waiting on a game to release.
This will be my last post lol im not riled up is just amazes me how many people go after the people and not the system then again look at the world today and i will be buying GW2 and i own GW1 and all expansion but im not gonna suck there balls lol
Seems a lot of those complaints are about the design choices. Sorry but those aren't going to change. Some bugs will certainly be correctable.
Design choice or not some of the stuff they have done is just plain wrong. LIke no dungeon finder. Once game launches and the chat spam gets to unbearable levels in the city, they'll probably put one in, just like every other MMO that thought they could launch without a dungeon finder.
No mounts? Really, what design choice would prompt this? I have a few ideas, but you guys seem to be pretty pissed off already, I'd hate to completely rain on your parade.
No damage parser or DPS meter? Thats just ridiculous. They should know by now the forums are gonna light up after launch when people start wiping in dungeons. They should preempt the negative posts/press by just putting it in, people want it. Its pretty much needed for any kind of difficult content and for judging a builds worthiness.
The one big world vs zones is just dated tech. Not much they can really do about that now since they are using such an old engine.

We should totally be on the same server, we could be besties! Could be in the same guild and stuff, don't worry you won't have to suck their balls, I'll protect you from the balls, promise.

I really hope you don't play the game, you'll spend more time in the forums whining to get WoW 2.0 then playing GW2.
Broken Q in sPVP. This one really irks me because this will be the second supposed "Tripple A" MMO that will launch in a year with a broken PVP Q.
Let's all pay attention to this guy 'cause he thinks the word "queue" is just the letter Q.
Q is a character from Star Trek.
Discuss.
Q is shortened for queue. What's wrong with that?
Discuss? Star Trek is for geeks
This topic got to page 17 in less than 6 hours lol. Everyone on these forums must care only about GW2
Saying Q can just as well mean quest if you are talking about MMO's. Just using one letter as abbreviation will always cause confusion.
I think that the OP is trolling btw. When you mention a dps meter and spell rotations (spamming all 5 skills, weapon swap spam more lol ) for GW2's combat style, you are either trolling or ..I can't finish this sentence without going against forum rules.

generally if a large and i mean really large group of people are saying it's fine and like the design choices... and you dont, you're the one with the issue not the rest of us. advice - stick to tera or archeage when it comes out and avoid GW2 completely... see if you can get a refund or something, you dont wanna be there, we dont want you whining trying to get the game to mould into what you consider an acceptable MMO it's best for everyone involved

Who says its wrong? You?
Wrong based on what I think, and the history of MMOs launching and screwing it up. SWTOR tried no dungeon finder, that game had about as much hype as GW2. Guess what, they put in a dungeon finder when people started quitting because they were sick of spamming chat for groups and being locked into a specific zone to find said groups. Why would ANet want to go through the same thing that a game this year already went through. Thats just one example obviously. The no mount thing is a joke IMO, whatever dev green lighted the idea that mounts are a bad thing needs to get fired.

SWTOR is heavy holy trinity... GW2 you can pick up 5 other rangers you see running around in the world and decide to go run a dungeon... it's been proven that you can run a dungeon with 5 of the same professions.. it doesnt matter as long as the players are good enough.
Edit - also those games force you to run dungeons if you want the gear... GW2 is cosmetic just sayin

It only takes 5 to run a dungeon, it won't take too long (not nearly as much as in wow) and most people won't need trade chat cause they'll prob know enough people in their own guild to run with.
They may yet still add mounts, just not right now. The system they have in place really does not require mounts, and it does encourage exploration, which is part of the purpose of the game.
You and the DPS meter. When I played a gnome mage in WOW I used to be obsessed with the DPS meter, until I realized that I wasn't paying attention to the game ("not smelling the roses") and was just focused on out-dps'ing the other dps in my party/raid. As one who was "hooked" on dps meters, I hope Anet never introduces a dps meter into GW2, cause I think it would take away a lot from the experience of the game.
As for zones vs open world, I'm fine either way, it did not affect my gameplay experience at all, and I don't think it will be noticable (for the most part)... at least not enough to have to re-design the whole game to satisfy the few wow/tera self-absorbed "elite" players.
