Someone's parents V-chipped the cartoon network again and I have to pay for it. I stayed in SWG for as long as I did based upon their repeated assurances that what was wrong with the game was about to be fixed, and that wonderful new content was right around the corner. Then I finally got sick of those lies and quit. For example, when I was playing I spent many, many weeks working on the "Hero of Tantooine" quest. I got two, maybe three of the badges necessary(I forget). The rest were bugged. The main quest could not be completed because several parts to the subquest were bugged. So I waited. And waited. And waited. They kept promising to fix it. Then they took the quest out of the game! That is only one of hundreds of examples of SOE's crap I lived with when I played, which I would share with you if I enjoyed speaking to you, but I don't. I really don't care what conclusion you draw from my decision to wait for some of the better releases coming out soon than to waste time on what I already know is not what I am looking for. No I haven't played SWG recently. I haven't broken any bones recently either, but past experiences with that advise me I won't like it any better than I did the first time. Please. Play SWG. Spend all your time there. I can think of no better revenge for your sarcasm and display of cluelessness.
Look, you said SWG has NEVER been worth playing, then admitted you played for over 9 months. Who's the clueless one?
Ok i have resd on various threads alot of you are VERY happy with CU and from what i am reading it seems that your charecters are mostly combat typs try this start a new charecter like Doctor..Weapon Smith..Armou Smith or dancer try to level and take no combat skills you won't get very far SoE has made comabt THE center of SWGs so unless you take 2-3 combat classes as a base you won't get very far. The Builder classes get hosed if they try to master all Professions and so do the none combat types with CU if you don't take combat classes you are SO screwed.
And whats with saying only sertin classes can wear what armour that has never made sense if some one wants to wear the Comp Armour let them but if they lack the skill to wear it it is not as effective add a Armour tree as you wear armour it levels up start with light armour and go up and this should take time LOTS of it.

Crafting professions level differently. Unless they changed it, they get crafting XP and dont need xp from killing mobs.

Well ... as a crafter or entertainer I dont NEED weapon skills or armour. If I want I dont have to kill a single thing EVER in SWG. As a crafter I get my experience points from crafting things, as an entertainer for making music or dancing, as a merchant from trading. Not a single combat experience point needed ever. Even if you have harvesters in the field ... by driving carefully around red mobs you can place your harvesters almost everywhere you want even on the most dangerous planets (I do it every week with my CL 7 master merchant master artisan Master droid engineer). And that is BEFORE asking someone to protect you and/or group with you (so you get combat level 80 defenses).
If someone wants to master ALL professions (s)he is a bit of a masochist in my eyes (9 pilot professions, 7 basic professions, some 35 or so elite professions). This is not the holocron of 2004 anymore ... you dont need to master 10 or 32 professions to become Jedi. You can master all the non combat professions one to three at a time if you want. Then switch your toon to full combat and get all the combat professions.
If you play a crafter fighter hybrid (like my CL 60 Master Shipwright Master Smuggler + some Pistoleer) you can experience about 80 % of the combat content and STILL be a successfull crafter. You CAN do the high end content in a group (but you will be support, not the main damage dealer). And you can use ALL weapons that are not profession or race specific. And you are not fatigued by the armour corresponding to your profession.
So ... non combat classes are not "hosed" IMHO ...

Yeah Kai and Erillion are right and there has been no change with crafting. So leveling is totally independent from combat.
SWG has three playstyles (what I can think of). Combat, socializing (i.e. entertainers) and crafting. While they intermix within the game they are separate playstyles and aren't "screwed" unless you make them so through bad skill assignment.
BTW, doctor is a combat profession and none certification of armour is a bad idea. Pre-CU proved that.

Is it good to play yet ? ... i would say yes , its not nearly as buggy as it was pre CU.
I've been playing since May 04 and and to be completely honest they game has never felt overly Star Warsy but i was lucky enough to make some good friends in game and i could hang out with them and not take to much notice of the glaring timeline errors. I would suggest that you wait for a free trial and check it out yourself
In a nutshell, try it if you can get it for free. Unless you want to be a Jedi or a non combat profession its is VERY dull and grindy. In fact you only grind. There is NO story, NO really point, and not even an attempt to bring you into the game. You will spend most of your time killing assorted animals on Dantoonie. This includes Jedi. In fact no matter what you choose to do for a combat profession, you will end up killing assorted animals on Dantoonie. Oh, and player vs player is non exsistant. No one does it at all hardly. If there is a Jedi in your group, while you are killing assorted animals on Dantoonie, there may be an off chance a Bounty Hunter sneaks up and tries to kill the Jedi. You will not be able to help the Jedi though. In fact you will be forced to sit on the sidelines and wait for them to finish. All it amounts to is an interuption of your killing of assorted animals on Dantoonie. The whole Rebel vs Empire thing is out the window as just about no one does it.
Bugs..lol, my very first starter quest I tried was bugged. All I was asked to do was kill 10 sandpeople in Junktown. (recently now, in June, not 1 year ago, not 2 years ago) The Sandpeople did not spawn for 3 days. Many players sent bug reports. I never got a reply. (one could say the customer service sucks) Also about a month in the Devs nerfed the Xp without ever once saying anything about it. The outcry was so loud they actually reversed it.
They are STILL revamping professions and messing with how the game works after 2 YEARS!
Unless you like mindless killing of assorted animals (on Dantoonie) and have a very high torerance of Dev changes I would stay clear of this one.
Everything is present for a great game EXCEPT for Devs with any imagination or care for the game.
Sounds like you needed to get off Dantooine. Odd I've got three CL80s and never once grinded there. The problem with your "review" is escentially what is a problem with SWG. People are to fixated on XP and the game mechanics don't integrate the content with leveling. If you seriously think there is nothing to get involved in then you obviously didn't play the game. In that I'm referring, to not just focusing on leveling. There is also a difference between the GCW and PvP. PvP is very active, at least on Bria, the GCW is however next to being dead since its never existed in any depth.
As for revamps, yeah they are onging but name one game that's been static for more than a few months.

The GCW does exist. Its just warped and twisted into something not even remotely ABY (After the battle of Yavin). Its now Jedi versus non-jedi more then anything else. And, at least on two of the servers I played on, that means Rebels are mostly jedi and Imperials arent. So you end up with a server that is decidely heavy rebel and the Imperials dont stand a chance.
Dantooine is also the only place I found players consistently. Anywhere else was like a ghostown. But the MO on Dantooine was jumping. Usually so many players, that walking into it was like swimming in hard frozen ice cream.
Second most popular was the Village. But that depended on phase I am sure.
Wasn't that not just after the CU? Its change a fair bit since then.
I can only speak of Bria, but while Dantooine MO does remain a hotsot its by no means unique. Nym's Stronghold is also very busy, more so than the village. Also player cities are taking a more important role in becoming hunting bases and most npc cities constantly have a flow of people. People are everywhere, with the major hotspot being Mos Eisley.
The point still stands that the people grinding away at these sights miss out on most of the games content, doing quests and dungeons after they have surpassed their level requirements. So complaining SWG is grind, grind, grind is in general what the players make it into, not because there isn't other things to do. The underlieing problem of that....Jedi. Simply because of the amount of XP needed. Normal professions, with the current XP system can be maxed out way to quick, for a burn out to result. However completing content that is below your level is not generally fun. That's in part an issue with game mechanics, the other being firmly with the player being obsessed with leveling.

Possibly giving quests major XP bonuses would help. But then the player's grind would just peed up even more. I still wish they would grab the "XP Gain Slider" and push it from the far right all the way over close to the far left. Make it take literally months to level a profession.
I did see people in Mos Eisley. This is true. But. in my opinion, it was usually vets waiting for newbies to log on so they could harrass them for their BARC speeders. heh
How long ago was this? Tons of newbies now, and most of them get told not to sell their BARC's.

Incredibly cynical. Dantooine is absolutely HOPPING at all hours, I would say more but that's my main spot so far. Some nice vet told me to go there and find groups and it's amazing how nice people are letting n00bs who can't really even help in their groups.
Mos Eisly is full till around 11:30pm pacific every night with vets, n00bs and everything in between, On Naritus.

Nym's isnt on Dantooine. Its on Lok. This is the second time.
The game does not force yourself into grinding. YOU force yourself into grinding as you want to maximize XP in the shortest amount of time (for what ? Does it matter if I become CL 80 fighter in 2 weeks or 2 months in a game I play for 2+ years ?).
The games does not force you to kill 300 k bols and pickets out of Dantooine Mining Outpost. YOU force yourself to do that.
The game does not make you become bored from mindless grinding. YOU force yourself into becoming bored by mindless grinding.
There are 11 planets. Hundreds of quests. Dozens of player cities. Thousands of players. Interact. Organize events. Try new professions. Chat. Laugh. Sneak. Tame. Craft. Entertain.
And suddenly you start enjoying this "stupid grinder game" - because its isnt a grinder game unless you make it so !
Ah but they made it a grinder game. We didnt. SOE did. The day the first holocron dropped, SWG became a grinder game. They made it even more so with the Village. They want you to grind. They shove jedi in every video (One JTL video had more jedi screentime then the ships). They push out screens like mad (Someone once counted it. One jedi SS at least every 7 shots). They make sure jedi are so numerous in game, you cant spit without hitting one.
Yes there are other things to do in this grinder game. But it is a grinder game, anyway you slice it. It was made for grinding. The more people they get to grind to the precioussess, the more guarunteed accounts they get. Yeah ok so they lose another 750k players but to them a guarunteed 250k is worth then 1 million possible. Which is another reason I see SOE written all over this game.

While I do agree with you, you are missing the fact that SoE have recongised this and are working towards changing those mechantic. It can be seen that focus is shifting towards quest based content.
Well ... suggestion : DONT GO JEDI. Suddenly it is NOT a grinder game anymore.
For those that cannot live without a Jedi : if someone in your friend list with a full Jedi leaves the game (for a while ?) - get his ready made Jedi and play with it for a while (until he comes back - or not :-). Most people do NOT sell their Jedi on Ebay when they leave. And that way you may have a Jedi sooner then when you grind it out yourself.

I agree. With some of the recent posts and interviews I am seeing a new trend. The developers are beginning to hint that the high numbers of jedi were never intended. While this is a huge lie, it still shows the jedi's heads could be due for the chop.
That is one thing I would definately come back for if they did it. Not to play. Just to go to the jedi forums and tell all those players who said SOE and LA would never get rid of thier jedi "I TOLD YOU SO!!!!!" heh.
Erillion - I didnt say you have to go jedi. Just saying this game, currently, is made for grinding and it is what THEY (SOE and LA) want you to do. Yes there are tons of other things to do. But grinding is one of the many things holding this game back.
if someone does not go Jedi, (s)he does not have to grind at all.
If (s)he grinds, (s)he will have a maxxed out toon in one week. If (s)he does not grind but plays casually , the toon will be maxxed out in AT MOST 2 months. Thats NOT what I would call a grinder game.
Its a grinder game because they made it to grind. The entire game revolves around jedi. Yes you do NOT have to go jedi. But it is part of the game. The main part as far as SOE and LA were concerned.
They made jedi the high content and the only way to get to them is to grind. Hence a grinder game. That does NOT mean you have to grind. It just means that they want you to grind.
I dunno if I'd agree that the whole game "revolves" around Jedi but being that they ARE the de-facto "endgame" if you choose to go Jedi and are in a hurry to get there you WILL be forced to grind.
So yes, if you go Jedi the game can be a grind (but doesn't necessarily have to be, that's a choice people make).
I will agree that it has the potential to be a grind but I played happily for over a year without ever even thinking about unlocking my jedi. I unlocked force sensitive by accident.

[quote] Try not to take everything Kia says to heart, he's just a SoE hater who for some reason can't move on from the game (which he hasn't played for some time) and comes here just to make negative post after negative post. There's cetainly no major revamp going on, that happend with the CU. Neither are they tearing everything apart. They are making additions and modifying two professions, out of 30+. [/qoute]
What a lot of bollocks. Why do people still talk about this game being any good, and yes i still have my account active until end of October.
SWG atm is KOTOR online, every single thing about this game is geared to jedi, you either are jedi or not. the new "CONTENT" they are talking about is Obi-wan trials. !!! OMFG!
MORE JEDI content. isnt the game not set at a time when the Emperor and Darth Vader is hunting DOWN JEDI?
yet on every server there is 10000s of jedi. no other profession is worth while. the professions and entertaining classes are gone. no more doc buffs. no more wound healing.
So heres my advice,
buy the game, use the FREE month offer with it, Log on to Eclispe and speak to the players (if you can find em) (*** PSSST jedi are on Kassyhk)

That every combat profession can do the quests and even non combat professions will have something to do there (new resources, new schematics, new styles and skills). Keep talking to yourself that the expansion is Jedi only. At least some have to believe that to keep flaming. Out of some 40 odd screenshots, 6 are showing Jedi. Truely a Jedi only place ... yet on every server there is 10000s of jedi. no other profession is worth while. the professions and entertaining classes are gone. no more doc buffs. no more wound healing. --> Crafters and Entertainers are alive and kicking on Naritus. Wound healing .. from the same docs or from Jedi. --> Professions other than Jedi are very much worthwhile. Especially for the non grinder. Maybe you are just on the wrong server.
Kai
Kai
Mos Eisly is full till around 11:30pm pacific every night with vets, n00bs and everything in between, On Naritus.
Nym's isnt on Dantooine. Its on Lok. This is the second time.
Kai

Kai
Well ... suggestion : DONT GO JEDI.

Kai
Kai,
if someone does not go Jedi, (s)he does not have to grind at all.

Kai
I dunno if I'd agree that the whole game "revolves" around Jedi but being that they ARE the de-facto "endgame" if you choose to go Jedi and are in a hurry to get there you WILL be forced to grind.
So yes, if you go Jedi the game can be a grind (but doesn't necessarily have to be, that's a choice people make).
I will agree that it has the potential to be a grind but I played happily for over a year without ever even thinking about unlocking my jedi. I unlocked force sensitive by accident.

Try not to take everything Kia says to heart, he's just a SoE hater who for some reason can't move on from the game (which he hasn't played for some time) and comes here just to make negative post after negative post. There's cetainly no major revamp going on, that happend with the CU. Neither are they tearing everything apart. They are making additions and modifying two professions, out of 30+.

Well .. here is some advice for grinding if you really HAVE to grind fast:
