Star Wars IP = big sales everytime almost every time

also you knew TSW was more of a niche game.. I will say it is a BETTER game than swtor but not even close to the type of game that will grab mass appeal

I angered the clerk in a clothing shop today. She asked me what size I was and I said actual, because I am not to scale. I like vending machines 'cause snacks are better when they fall. YOu also gotta consider that TSW lived up to its name and was a secret up until like a week for release.

Playing: FFXIV, DnL, and World of Warships
    Waiting on: Ashes of Creation

advertising bioware star wars IP that will last the ages.

What would you expect? plus Funcoms major accomplishments AO , always in the shadow of DAOC , and AOC which was the biggest flop of that time with warhammer online. Can you really expect people just to run out and buy the secret world with a reputation that most people avoid as a developer.

TSW released at a bad time, with a subscription and is made by a crappy developer.

And now it's going to be living up to it's name again, as subs drop off and Funcom lays off a bunch of it's employees :p

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I'm not a fan of the Secret World but it is the better game between it and swtor but SWTOR has a big IP behind it and fanbase of course its gonna sell more whereas SW is an new IP.

Just think about the math.  Tor had 210 servers at release and TSW had 8 or not even 4% of the total servers.  Just looking at the total serevrs one can see TSW did not sell anyonewhere near as many copies as ToR.

But what does it matter.  if you enjoy a game and it keeps putting out content isn'tt hat enough.  Mere popularity does not make something good.  I would much rather go to a real restraunt than McDonalds despite McD's popularity.

After what Funcom pulled off with AoC, i'm surprised they even sold 500k copies. I personaly wouldn't buy another Funcom game even if it was the second coming.

The difference between 300-500 million dollar budget and a 50 million dollar budget?

Star Wars IP vs a developer with a bad reputation. Makes since. Also source?

No TSW has the ability to put the entire game world on one server. Couldn't judge it by the number of servers.

That epic star wars opening will gettem everytime, lol. Haven't played swtor but tsw just doesn't offer enough to justify the sub imo. The last day of my free month was lag city and unplayable putting the nail in the coffin for me. There in for a rough time over the next couple of months...

WoW, all of these wrong awnsers lmao.

Commercials. SWTOR had commercials on cartoon newwork, nsnbc,  fox, ect.

Has anyone seen a TSW commercial. They could still sell a huge amount of copies if they made a US National commercial. Only die hard mmo players go from site to site to see whats comming out.

SWTOR is a better game with a lot more stuff to do and not to mention a better story.

    I like the sarcasm.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

Brand recognition of Star Wars and the Bioware name. FunCom had one of the worst mmo launches with AO, even though they rebounded a bit. AoC was hyped to no end, sold a bunch of boxes and didn't live up to the hype. Ironically, FunCom was very quiet with TSW, didn't do a ton of advertising and didn't really talk their game up much before hand. Additionally, like others have said, it's a niche game, which will cut your potential by a degree.

Finally, releasing in such close proximity to GW2, and having a subscription on top of that, is also going to kill potential sales. I'll play it when it goes F2P though.

    Please tell me you're joking.

It's sad to hear they haven't reach their goal, but I think what's killing TSW the most is the fact it released around the time when 2 AAA heavy hitters are about to release. with GW2 and MoP around the corner I can not see this game getting anymore subs.
