I don't honestly believe that people who claim to hate GW2 actually do. Many of these people claimed they've played thousands of hours of games like EQ, DAoC, and WoW. How could they hate a game that is stepping of the box while trying to attract most classic RPG lovers? There's been mutterings of the genre dying choking on the venom of their communities and the greed of publishers. Why would people who are so passionate about the genre turn on their own?

People are writing well formed posts about the game only be dead wrong about almost everything they wrote! They want to convince people that an MMORPG shouldn't be played or at least tried by fans of the genre.

I wish that people would stop pretending that its the game that they're hating NOT the fans of the game. I'm tried of the all contrived ways people are coming up with to justify their Gamer Envy. Yep, I said envy. Many people who play MMOrpgs play them out the obligation or habit but...................

IT WASN"T ALWAYS LIKE THIS. THEY USED TO ENJOY GAMES THEY PLAYED.

The journey was the adventure. Challenge was fun not duanting. Gear was for show and you guildmates were family in every way that mattered.

Now  there's a game that has captured that spirit again they want to pretend that the game glaring flaws or shortcomings. IMHO they want to feel the excitement and wonder many GW2 fans have for their own game. They envy the experience that can't be brought with a box set or with a monthly subscription fee. It's the true love that comes with being a fan the game. Your gear can't show you love neither can your PVP rating. Only community full of passionate and welcoming fans can do that.

If you read through this thanks. I really need to get this off my chest.

100% agree with you friend. The hate has got to stop on all fronts. It's not just GW2, but any new or coming AAA game. Damn I'm mad spelled backwards is still Damn I'm Mad. The hate needs to stop and be directed at FPS. :)

i can only chock it up to a lot of people worried about GW2 stealing players from their games... granted not everyone will enjoy this game but the reasons many come here with are usually straight up misinformation or just trying to stir the pot around here.

It obviously is competing anti-marketing compaigns.  I know people are stupid, but the absurd positions people take for or against games is just too inconsistent to be real.

You can tell easily who these people are when they do it because of their thread title.  They don't want discussion, so they'll ask a question which is inflammatory and imply that it's true in the title.  That way even if you don't read the thread, when ever it gets bumped you see the message they want to disseminate...for example:

"GW2 is just a WOW clone...shouldn't the developers have known better?"

"GW2 is p2win...doesn't it bother you guys?

"I'm really concerned about GW2 because of the lack of content..."

Yeah, I agree. Some of it is player envy, but at least a fair portion of it comes from people with an actual financial interest in one or another of the games GW2 will be competing with. They even seem to follow set talking points, giving themselves away by repeating the same mis-information that has already been completely debunked many times before.

And it never ends. Most of the worst people I have ever met online were in these MMO's, specifically this one.

The rage praising a game can cause is honestly funny.  Many posters have come here up in arms about just that: GW2 fans who are just way too darn entheusiastic about their game, "hyping" it up endlessly.  To which I have to ask, why in the world does this bother you?

"It just does!" is not an acceptable answer.  Really.  Ask yourself, why?

People feel emotions all the time, but it's not always easy to identifiy the sources of those emotions.  I don't think envy is that far off in this case.

Players, for whatever bizarre reason, have a habit of intensely investing themselves in a particular game.  Once that investment becomes intimate enough and they've participated in enough public conversation about it, the player then associates the game's success or failure with his own success or failure.

Players need to absolve themselves of this association, leave the ego out of it, and just like or dislike each game that comes along based on its merit.

When you see someone else enjoying something and your reaction is anger.  That's a problem that needs to be addressed.

The op is currect that the players have changed more then the games that they moved away from what we used to have.

Yep, and you can tell from their title how they word it to make you assume their "concern" is actually already true.

The funniest so far?  Dude said people were lying when people said that "NPCs move around more in GW2, while TOR were static."  Which is to say that GW2 cities seems very alive.

He said he played in the beta and counted all the NPCs...and even though GW2 was more lively (he couln't refute that), as a percentage of total NPCs, GW2 was just the same as TOR.  Thus, he was lied to (yes, he actually used the word lied) by players and developers.

Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I noticed a while ago that types of anti-GW2 posts follow a certain pattern. They sort of come in waves. You'll get a bunch of "GW2 is P2W" posts for a few days, than you get a few "game has no content/end game" posts or "This game brings nothing new" type posts a few days later.

I'm sure that some of it is deliberate misinformation/smear campaign by competitors and other games' players alike.

Agreed.  To add a bit to your point, which MMO we play has become kind of a status symbol among the online gamer elite.  I mean hell if half the world bought and started wearing "boots-with-the-fur" simply because someone as disliked as Paris Hilton did it, then why should video games be any different?

Personally, GW2 isn't for me for several reasons that I don't feel the need to justify, but it's f2p, so I'm sure I'll buy it eventually.  Lord knows I've purchased and hated many crap ass single player games over the years for the same price tag.  I don't get the division, honestly.  When did my favorite pastime become the thing by which so many people judge their online virtual self-worth?

There are plenty of lost souls for whom GW2 is merely the latest, most obvious target for their scorn. Sometimes though there's simply no accounting for taste. There isn't a fixed perspective or lens through which to view this game or any other.

And on top of that! It's a fricken $60 video game. A video game!!! I have seen just recently, a post that a forum member spearheaded this morning for hours! He wasn't even the OP but felt like he needed to protect what the OP had to say. Why do we do it? Its not a cure for cancer or a serum to cure aids, its a fricken video game. <-- I think I mentioned that. :)

Well I don't know if hate is the right word.

I would say that plenty have a legitimate complaint about some issues.  Like RPG story and presentation when talking about GW2.  There's plenty of great things about GW2, but people are allowed to hate/not like any game.  Doesn't mean they have some 'vendetta' against GW2.  In fact the worst thing about GW2 is the rabid fanboys honestly that have been making a bad name for themselves and the game.  From the numerous attacks on 'opponents' games like Rift to SWTOR to TERA to TSW and any other game in-between.

edit- oh and WoW of course too, but the giant elephant in the room kind of goes without saying.  ;)

not the point when every other thread is the same thing over and over saying the same misinformation over and over when theres 20 pages of examples showing the OP why they are off base. There is a difference between having an opinion or not liking or hating aspect A of a game but to say aspect A isn't in the game or is something it's not when you are shown 20 videos showing what aspect A is and is all about with numerous examples from players and dev's it gets old and annoying.

You are correct, OP.  I don't hate the game itself.  Months ago when I first tried the BWE I didn't like the game at all. I didn't hate it though. I came on this site, brought up issues I had with the game, answered people's threads and received a rediculous amount of hate, I saw others with similar views jumped on 24/7.  I admit it's got a lot better since then.  I once posted a reasonable comment on a Youtube GW2 video about a problem I had with the game, my inbox was filled with dozens of "omg drop dead you WoW noob, get cancer"  it is because of my experience with the fans, I now hate the game.  I will be glad when it's out, people can just enjoy it,  and it won't be the biggest thing anymore.  I know I'm being unreasonable, but people can't help how they feel.

PS.  The emotion in your OP made me feel incredibly uncomfortable.

I dont Hate gw2 i just think it looks generic and wont live up to its huge hype. Des will just be like Rifts in Rift will be awesome at first then become repetitive. And i cant support any company who wants to make PVP into an esport rather then just make it fun.

I see more hate directed at people criticizing GW2 from their community then from people who dont like them game. Say one thing bad about GW2 and you get gang raped by GW2 fanboys.
