It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
It's completely retarded. It's all questing and only instanced dungeons/caves. You can only get experience from doing these quests and it's ridiculous. I understand the D&D 3rd ed rules, but the whole ANY race can be ANY class goes a little far when you see a huge War race being a sorcerer or a wizzy or even worse, a rogue or ranger. I mean come on. The combat is flat and dull as well. It's like an XBOX or PS2 console game as far as combat goes. In fact the whole game is like playing on a console. What is wrong with these developers??
You click your mouse button to keep swinging your sword a few times until the mob goes down, only really taking 2-3 hits at the most. It's completely pathetic.
DDO is bad. In fact, I'd rather be playing SWG with the NGE and all. What were the devs thinking when they implemented this game?
Bah.
Comments
Yeah I have to agree. They said that combat would be innovative and refreshing. No. It's dull. It's just as dull as point and click, just worse since you actually have to click 3 times. By that time the mob should be gone.

Just curious, but have you played the game yet?
Yea I deleted the piece of crap after playing for about 2-3 hours trying different classes and it's all the same crap. The interface sucks, the combat is horrible, and the "instanced quests" are ridiculous for a MMORPG. There is absolutely NO exp for hunting mobs, in fact there are NO mobs except in the quests themselves. It's a complete joke.
The game lacks content, the game lacks originality, and it's really ...well...just lame. I can't believe Turbine would even think about releasing this game the way it is. It just plain sucks.
Any way to test it ourselves?
personally, i LIKE the NGE (minus the bugs) and i would like to see a well done real time combat system (Something like a ninja gaiden or god of war type MMO, no idea how anyone would pull it of) havent played it, even with this bad review, it peaks my interest.
I doubt a real-time combat system is possible. Lots of people are complaining that they should have made the NGE into a MMOFPS without actually understanding the underlying mechanics behind managing something like that. There's a reason why CounterStrike games are restricted to a maximum of around 32 players. MMOs are by nature low-bandwidth games to account for thousands of players logged onto one server. Even Planetside isn't a true FPS and takes many liberties such as big hitboxes and no damage calculation according to where you hit.
Isn't there an NDA or something? And it's still in beta right? For someone to be beta testing and saying it sucks, well what game didn't suck in beta? Correct me if I'm wrong but I find it underhanded to report on a game in beta.
There's a difference between a game that's incomplete and a game that just plain sucks because the idea was bad. For example, I was in the Matrix Online beta. Within 10 minutes, I could tell that the game was based on a very poor system and probably wasn't going to be very popular.
Even if it is 3 clicks to kill, it cant be as dull as the WoW "click once, then go make myself a sandwich, then come back and ive killed the guy"
Well what youre saying is that you cant have more than 30 people all going nuts with guns blazing all at once, with accurate hitboxes? Maybe I'm missing the point but maybe thats why the game is instanced, so that they can keep the players from having massive battles all at once, and they apparently wont have PvP at launch. I'm probably wrong about this as I have no experience with large servers, or how the servers work for MMO's, but its just a thought.
which, while I haven't played much D&D, is what I am looking for, an MMO that is less about uber loot and stats and more about individual player choices to win a battle. I always felt it was my character, not I who was fighing and winning the battles, which doesn't have the same satisfaction for me.
This opens up the huge potential for abuse right here. If players are allowed to create their own campaigns and whatnot, people can just create campaigns where there are a ton of weak monsters and they can create an attack macro and walk away. Plus, as Face of Mankind has shown us, you cannot rely on the community to come up with good content.
Don't get me wrong. The Game isn't horrible, just nothing special. And the beta is good for a beta but the idea of a revolution in gaming is wrong. Perhaps pen and paper D&D, should stay pen and paper? And yes in an indirect way, I violated the NDA but I did so after I quit the beta and deleted the whole thing. Since I am no longer playing, I am under no obligation to hold back with critques. Besides that, I think it is a normal, decent game with D&D "wrapping paper". This is not horrific by any means, just not good enough in mechanics nor substance to warrant the buzz it is getting from Betas and Non-betas.
Random question. Is anyone here who has called it quits on beta willing to give/trade their slot?
...Well, it couldn't hurt to ask.
..
Just because any race can be any class doesn't mean people are always going to chose to be a "dwarf wizard" for the stats, maybe for the uniqueness though. I fail to see how more options is a bad thing. EQ2 did the exact same thing, btw.
I completely disagree about your comment that the combat is dull. The combat in this game is more interactive than most MMOs on the market right now. How many MMOs do you know where you can actually dodge arrows and fireballs? A combat thats boring is one where you click to attack...go AFK for a sandwich and come back to see the target dead (i.e. EQ)
especially if youre a melee fighter
You are prolly right.
I will prolly regret it.
But as a long term D&D fan, I can't let a MMO about D&D pass without buying it.
I will prolly say a thousand insanity about the evil StormTrooper who call himself lead design.
But maybe...maybe...I can be wrong? Just in case I could be wrong, I am going to try it and give it a try anyway, I mean, it is D&D and WotC prolly learn a lot of stuff after their Heroes IV blunder, so if the product fail, I will blame Turbines and throw them the pooh Lead Design at Warhammer learns to not throw anymore!
I already put many lists of majors flaws and I underline the critical flaw about raiding, I can't make them listen to me, but I can certainly hope and dream that 1 person there is a real D&D fan and will have enough comon sense to wake them up.
Solo is not a disease. Solo deserve to be encouraged in every game, before you can claim to have a good grouping system, you start with the basic, and solo are the basics of any serious MMO. Unhappy soloers means the MMO lack a big time, a soloer should not even feel the desire to do anything but solo...unless he is more than a soloer (which many like me are), in which case, as long as we have a reason to do the other activity (a reason that have 0 impact on solo), I will do it, I can group to become a better grouper, I can solo to become a better soloer, if you ask me to group to become a better soloer, at best I am annoyed despite the fact I actually enjoy both gameplay...if you ask me to do another gameplay (tradeskills, raiding, PvP), then you are certain I will be outraged.

Take my word on this one: There is no real solo capability. D&D wasn't meant to be solo but alas, with this beta, I'm finding out D&D wasn't meant to be an online game.
D&D was meant to be a computer game like Neverwinter Nights, which as close as one can get to PnP. From the sounds of this, I think I will hold off on this wait for NWN 2 in 2006.
Deleted my copy of D&D online as well.I was really excited about the game from what i saw from the first trailers that showed off a game that looked alot more action oriented.Saying this game is like guild wars is kinda an insult to guild wars in many respects.I guess theres gonna be some epic story line dulled out in weekly or monthly updates but id rather run around on my toons in wow then have to deal with hassle of trying to find people that want to do the same instance i want to.Sucked when they gimped repeating a instance so that you get lower exp and less quality items each time you finish it.
Maybe if i could have made it past lvl 5 to get to better content my opinion would have changed but after getting one shoted bye traps for the 183th time you start to question how your blowing your free time.In the end the engine is dated, mechanics alienate mainsteam mmo,ers and hardcore D&Dd,ers witch = "flop"
stupid double postsWell it looks like SWG is gonna have competition for "most total and complete circus of abysmal failure in an MMO" now! Not that this really surprises anyone.
