I mean that is coming from the horses mouth . So expect it around December at the latest .
They have remained tight lipped about this game to stop the competition from stealing their ideas .
EQN will be so good that we will flock to the game in droves giving them the market share before clones come out from Blizzard & co who stole the limelight from EQ2 with WoW .
Sorry, but SOE stole the limelight from EQ 2 when they released a shitty engine that ran like crap on even top end gaming machines and to this very day still runs like crap. Great Fantasy MMORPG, but the engine holds it back.
Obviously not official, but to add more fuel to speculation. This site has the release date as 2013. Other games have unknown by their name or 2014, 2015, etc.
wonder if that's their guess from what Smedley said in that article or did they find something out at E3?

yeah I thought the engine was just made for future PC's so the game would last for years . Blizzard however was smarter and made a cartoon, and as we know cartoons don't go out of date so fast .
The August unveiling sure seems like a dead give away. That time line would work perfect for a quick November beta and a Christmas release.Absolutely no way it should be ready for even next Christmas but nothing would surprise me.They scrapped the game just 18 months ago,so the ONLY way it gets released this year is if it is nothing more than a EQ2 expansion pack disguised as a new game.
That would actually be very easy to pull off, since it's using the same engine, probably even rehashing old textures and sounds maybe even some old models. They could even use the same character models just skin them new that saves tons of time.We will see, they are not likely to fool many and i know i will see through it,it had better be a brand new game and not an EQ2 xpac with a gimmick or two.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Earliest date September 4th. (There has to be at least one beta and a couple of weeks of hype).
Latest date April 1st 2014. (No point in "black boxing' the game and then giving the opposition time to catch up.)
So my best estimate of a release date is November 12th 2013.
I second this. For sure, if it is in 2013, before the holidays. The pull from many EQ players that I know isn't giving the gift of the game around the holidays, it is being patched, ready to go, and playing it with friends.

Its been in development for almost 6 years. Just because they scrapped part of the game, doesn't mean they pressed a giant delete key on all their assets. They had music, art, models, an engine and probably a lot of the world ready at their fingertips when "restarting." Thats years of work preserved.

They wouldn't use the EQ2 engine because the EQ2 engine didn't, and still doesn't support multi-core cpu. EQ2 was based on the idea that everyone would have 10ghz processors, not multiple 3ghz core processors. So even though there is a check box for "Multi-core support", if you look at your core usage, core 0 is always near 100, where as the other cores are low. So they wouldn't use this EQ2 engine. Not to mention they have shown some ingame screenshots over the years, and the EQ2 engine isn't capable of the "smooth" lines that it has created.
Dragon's Prophet or whatever is an EQ2 engine game, but that was a low budget game to get people to look at SOE before EQN gets released.

Why do people keep stating this? I know some of you think scrapped means that they scrapped EVERYTHING, but it doesn't mean that, and they didn't scrap everything.

I was shocked at how fast he got PS2 out. It wasn't done, but it was fun as heck, and it worked. They gave me the impression, that they do not miss deadlines.
It is difficult to speculate. That really depends on how far along they are and how much Smedley was boasting. If you listen to him, we're looking at a release this year; prob just before Christmas as normal. However, that doesn't leave a lot of room for stress testing and bug testing. From a testing standpoint, the actual games that will be playing your game are the best testers.
3-6 months of Beta. I'm guesstimating March 2014 release.
I'd rather have a polished game than a turd that needs polishing.

If you listen to smed and i was i got the feeling it would be out in Sept/oct this year. But just from listening to the tweets from the devs and some of the things that was said at e3 i don't think the devs agree with smed. So i am thinking smed is trying to get it released this year maybe as a open beta but the devs are gonna hate this and in the end it is gonna cost EQN but maybe there is end of year evaluations in soe which cant be looking great atm with all the new staff they have brought on to finish EQN. Smed these days is a business man and he has his job to do and if that means releasing a unfinished project then i am sure that is what he will do.
Would I like it out earlier than that? F$ck ya! But the craptastic game that would the result would drop SOE off the mmo map forever.
The games been in development for quite a few years. Although none of us have any idea how far along they are or even what the game looks like at this point I'd like to think a fall beta test with a Q1 or Q2 launch in 2014.
I'd love to know where people are getting the idea that a massive mmo will be released only 2-3 months after the VERY FIRST reveal.
Anytime during 2014 would be incredibly optimistic.

Smedly (Earlier this year): “Players will get their hands on an actual release version of what we’re doing late [this] year – and I don’t mean a beta”
Obviously things could of changed, but that's a pretty bold statement to just be throwing out about a game with almost zero info released.
I'm assuming the foundation type stuff is nearly done (world, races, classes, crafting) but they aren't wasting time on having a billion quests that vary slightly like most games have.
Going with it being a sandbox, we could see a pretty empty world at the start, that's kind of the point. As time goes on, quests, events, and other dynamic things could be put in to make the world come to life. Especially with Storybricks.
Forgelight is being heavily tested with PS2 so hopefully a lot of the technical issues are being worked out there.
As EQN will be F2P, I wouldn't even mind them releasing it "unfinished" or as a release/open beta as one. The world should be evolving and changing, bugs and issues are just part of that.
If people get in and expect the same old themepark oversaturated content bore and leave, that's on them. There will be plenty remaining for years down the road if they pull off even a fraction of what we can hope for.
Then again, Smedly could get on stage and show a "release" pic and say it's coming soon...

All I have to say is that I hope it is not like Vanguard at release. My guild hit upper level content in a few weeks - the devs didn't expect players to advance in that amount of time. Turned out nothing was there - had to wait a bit longer for the raid events, and when they were released, they weren't great. With that said the game has made a lot of progress. Also, after that I went back to EQ1.

Hopefully they designed it to not have any need or even be able to reach the "end game" quickly as hopefully there really isn't one. So tired of "beating" mmos. A lot of people will probably expect to make it to the end, but shouldn't be too surprised when they can't find it.

If you are expecting that type of PVE, you are probably going to be disappointed.

an actual release version doesn't mean alpha

Judging from the crap these game companies put out lately, I'd say "alpha" is the new "release".

Back in the good ol' Days, Devs used to say "It's done when its done".
Thouse Days, Devs no longer have the Voice, to say that, now the Publisher has the Word on it "Release it, as soon a fuckin' possible".
Remember: VSoH
The Tripods
GW2 said that all the time...up until last years announcement.

I don't have a problem with them releasing a game that isn't fully featured and adding to it by increments over time.
